Mexico, Latin & South AmericaDoes Anyone know where the "Border Zone" ends?
thank you Franklie. You all have given me great advice! I currently work at a bank in Ohio. They only have branches in PA, WV, and OH. I am hoping that if I do relocate, that I can get a job at a bank in the US in like TX, NM, or AZ. I would probably use my mothers address, I have been using her address for the immigration paperwork anyhow. Thanks for the great advice guys! dancin5hr.gif

Nicole, have you asked on I2us? The reason I ask is because I think there are a lot more of us with experience living in Mexico, especially borders, there than there are on here. What I know is this: you should try to get a 180 day tourist visa at some point no matter what, just so that you can have documentation in hand, even though it's not necessary for travel within the border zone (which I believe is 30 miles, but you should check with some of the border dwellers for that). It only costs like $20 and is worth it so you can legally travel anywhere in Mexico. They issue them in a little booth on the border, usually you have to seek them out. You COULD attempt getting a spouse visa to have permanent status since you wouldn't be working in Mexico anyways (one of the spouse visa requirements), but then you have to prove your husband can sponsor you, etc. plus dealing with anything immigration-related in Mexico is almost worse than in the US.

I think that since you would only be doing this on a temporary basis, you should keep it simple, stick with a tourist visa. As long as you're not seeking to do any lucrative activity in Mexico, they should be fine with that. However, if I recall your case correctly, you could be done with this in a few months, so it hopefully won't matter for much longer!! smile.gif

Hey girl!

I am going to ask on the I2US board, but I am not able to access the site while I am at work. Because that site has the arcade on it, the internet filter at work does not allow me to view the website. So I can only access this site.

Thanks!

Now mind you, if you move to Mexico; you could be giving up residence in the US. This is a tricky move if you already filed. Do a lot of research and good luck!

I would not be applying for citizenship in Mexico, plus I would be working in the US. We only plan on staying there until this immigration nightmare is over and then we can move to the US together. And I am a citizen, I don't think they can take that away unless I do something really bad.

I can't contribute at all...I mean, I don't have any advice..

I just wanted to say that I love Puebla - that's cool your man is from there.

He actually lives in an "junta auxiliar" called San Francisco Cuapan, in the City of San Pedro Cholula, Puebla. He lives near the pyramids in Cholula.

My husband and I have decided that while we wait for the process to complete, that he will move up to the Mexico/US border (He lives in Puebla, MX now) and I will move to the Mexico side of the border with him and travel to the US to work. My question is, how far does the "Border Zone" extend into Mexico so that I am not required to have a visa? We are looking at places like Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa or Nogales. Thanks for the input!
Nicole

I don't know the exact number but I do know that when I travelled to Magdalena, Sonora, which is south of Nogales I needed to get the temporary visa. Ensenada, BC is more than 20 miles south of the border of California and no visa is needed.

Thanks franklie!! I was guessing about 20-30 miles into Mexico but I was not sure.

Right, I understand that. But since I will be living in Mexico, I either need to live within the border zone or have a mexican visa. But I am not sure where the border zone ends. That way we can find someplace to live within that area.

well I am the US Citizen, so I would be able to travel freely to and from the USA. But I just don't know about the rules and regulations. I want to have all my facts straight before I make any final decisions.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaQuestion!
if it is a K-1 interview, it should not take that long to get to CDJ, give it a month or two and you should have your appointment papers in hand. Congrats on the approval and good luck!

Once the DS-230 is sent and received at NVC, it takes about 2 weeks or so for them to say "case complete" After that, the appointment is scheduled at the Embassy but it depends greatly depending on how many cases are in front of yours. I am not sure about the Pakistan Embassy and how far they are scheduling out. I wish you luck!

I think they're making it increasingly harder to get the IIN. Back in early June, I got it right away on the first try. Now it sounds like they put up such a fight. Maybe they're on to all the people using shortcuts and are afraid of overloading the system somehow.

Anyhow, Nicole, I'm glad they've got you in the system and you can finally be on your way!

Thanks girl!! I am trying to be patient though this, but it becomes so difficult sometimes.

what we have seen is that it takes about 1 or 2 weeks but if your case is one of the ones that takes longer, they will not start looking for it until after the 30 days... some have even been told 90 days. Hopefully they will get ours very soon!

Ours arrived in 6 days (and there was a weekend in there). You can start calling as soon as you want, but just be prepared, you're going to be doing a TON of calling the automated system and the operators during this stage! You will have those numbers memorized within 2 weeks. tongue.gif

Good luck!

LOL I have my case number memorized, and most of the prompts in the automated system! As of Friday, it had not been received yet... I will call again on monday...

I received my NOA2 in the mail yesterday it was dated August 20 with the approval date as August 14. If they sent my file to NVC on the 20th, how long should I wait before calling NVC to see if they have received it?

Thanks in advance!

Who do they pick for Administrative Processing? Is it random or is it based on all the information you submit to them?

Every one gets placed into AP so to speak... Some "clear" in a matter of days, while others have name "hits" or some other sort of complexity that requires more time to complete

OHHHH ok. Thanks

How come you are always so rude? You push your opinions onto someone and make them feel inferior because they did not do it the way YOU would have done it. If you cannot add anything valueable to the conversations, then just stay out of them.
