Is the new procedure (ASC interview and scheduled appointment) making the process take longer? We were hoping for a mid May interview and are wondering if that is still possible.

Also, do I understand correctly that I don't have to wait for packet 3 to arrive before making the appointment? What happens if we arrive without the packet?

Thank you!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFlights from Mexico City to Juarez
Also, I see that Matt flew back the day of the interview. I'm thinking about buying a changeable ticket with Aeromexico for 7 pm the day of my fiancé's interview. Thoughts?

Monday - arrive to Juarez at 7:40 am (on Vivaaerobus), medical at 10:00 am
Tuesday - ACS at 2 pm (medical could be done at 6 am if Monday wasn't possible)
Wednesday - interview at 7:15 am, flight to Mexico City at 7 pm

We are also considering arriving arriving on Sunday to not rush to get to the medical appointment, but the less time in Juarez, the better.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.....

What are people's thoughts on arriving on Vivaaerobus at 7:40 am and heading right over to do the medical? Our other option is him arriving the day before. I've read that you need to arrive between 6 am and 11 pm. Can he show up for his medical with a small backpack and important papers? Or, should everything except the invitation letter and his "cartilla" be left at the hotel?

I'd love to hear thoughts on travel from Mexico City to Juarez.

One week until my fiancé's interview! Hip hip hurray!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI live abroad with my fiancee - Can I apply for K1?
My fiancee has been reading an e-book in Spanish from ImmigrationUnitedStates.org about the K1 visa. The document says that the fiancee visa isn't for couples living together abroad. It advises that couples in this situation should marry and apply for a CR1. We have been told something similar by a lawyer friend who advised that I move back to the US by myself and apply from there. We would like to avoid being separated because we are having a baby any day now. We wanted to do the K1 instead of the CR1 because it takes less time.

Has anyone heard of a couple having problems being approved for the K1 because they live together abroad? Should I down play our living together and explain my absence from the US workforce as a sabbatical?

I should mention that I have a co-sponsor.

Thank you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow did you decide on a K1?
My fiancé and I live together in Mexico and I am pregnant. We had decided to apply for the K1 for several reasons:

1) It is most likely faster and I would like to return to the US by mid-summer 2011 for employment reasons. The K1 seems like a more likely choice to get met there in time. And, the money spent on the K1 will quickly be made when I am earning dollars and not pesos.

2) Planning a wedding and applying for a visa and having a baby all in September seems like too much. So, we thought that we would put off planning the wedding until we are back in the US.

3) My fiancé made a great point - we are having a baby in his country with his family, so we should have the wedding in my country with my family.

But, since we already live together "as if we were husband and wife", I worry that we are applying for the wrong visa. I am also concerned about proving financial stability in the US even though we do have a co-sponsor. I have a couple of friends who did the K1 successfully while they were living with their then boyfriends in Mexico, so I know that I shouldn't worry. But, I am worried!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs an immigration lawyer a good idea?
Thank you for the advice.

My main concern is that I live in Mexico with my fiancee. I think that my mother will have to be my fiancee's sponsor since I don't have a job in the US. I do have a permanent address there, which is my mother's address. Does this complicate our visa process enough to warrant hiring a lawyer?

Thanks again!

Should we do it ourselves or hire a lawyer?

My fiancee and are are just beginning the "visa journey" and are trying to decide if we should hire an attorney to assist with the K1 visa process.

What are other people's experiences? The K1 is already so expensive. We'd like to keep down the cost. But, we also want to make sure that we are approved.

Thanks in advance for your advice.
