K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSuffix Clarification for I129F form
Hi guys, I've seen this topic before but there was no clear clarification about it and we just want to make sure that we don't have a rework just because of this small detail.

Okay, in I129F form how do you fill it out if your name ends with a suffix JR?
In what area will we put the suffix when there is no specific box asking for the suffix?

Sample name: John Ray Doe JR

Will it be--
LAST NAME: DOE
FIRST NAME: John JR
MIDDLE NAME: Ray

Or will it be safer to just put--
LAST NAME: DOE
FIRST NAME: John
MIDDLE NAME: Ray
and fill out Other Names Used John R. Doe JR

Thanks!! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG325A Clarification

yes, he should put the last address he stayed at for more than a year when he was still in the philippines. this part enables the govt to see where he was last at before going to the US (last permanent add they could trace). good luck and god bless :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG325A Clarification
Hi, we're just wanting to clarify G325A part where it asks
"Applicant's last address outside the US of more than 1 year"

My fiance/the petioner was just naturalized. Went to US when he was 14, so before that time he was in the Philippines.

He understands the statement as: Him being the USC already, he left the US and stayed in another country for more than a year, then he should put something in this field. But since he hasn't, he wants to put NONE.

I understand it as: Stating whatever country you've been to even before you got naturalized, therefore he should put where he lived in the Philippines before he left for the US.

Any idea on who's right?

hi everyone i have a questions howd you guys photo copies your mails and letters? for evelope did you guys copied front and back? and for cards front and back also? same thing for the letters?

Hi! :) Well what we did was to photocopy the part of the envelope where the stamps are and basically in the Philippines/US there are dates stamped into it too. And as for the cards, we've photocopied an open card where the message is written AND did the same for the front/back side -- coz we've figured out that cards from the US has label at the back side that it was printed in the US and so goes with cards printed in the philippines. I know they don't really care about those details, but we were ####### about it. :luv:

me and my fiance have a lot of pictures together with family friends and relative, howd you guys write your names on the back of pictures? did you guys write all names of your family relatives and friends?

Yup, we did. All our family/friend's name are written :) And we did it digitally. We made a word file with blank boxes and later on pasted the pictures on the boxes. You may just write the labels on the back of the pictures as well. But we wanted it to look really neat and we didn't like the idea of just putting the pics on ziplock. We made another copy for ourselves that we can later on use for the interview or just keep it like a scrapbook. :luv:

Here's a sample of what we did, this time with pictures and captions already. (F)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie with paperwork question..

Hi there,

I am new to all this (which I'm sure I'm not alone...) can anyone give me a 'sample' or example of what a letter of intent should say? I wrote my own and sent it to my English fiance, but I am so afraid it may be wrong....

It goes something like this:

This letter is to inform you that i intend to enter into legal marriage...blah blah, during his stay in teh US on a K1 visa, which i have submitted a petition for. (Obviously, haven't done that yet)

What else does it need to say? Also, I'be been told to send him a letter of 'invitation' (inviting him to marry me and live with me in the US?) and i've done this as well, but again, afraid it either says too much or is missing some vital piece of info.....

if anyone who's been approved would like to let me see what their letters said, I would greatly appreciate an example to go by. THank you soooooo much! :D

Here's our letter of intent :) Good Luck!!

Just to clarify, is it the Assembled I-129F Package you sent last March 2010? When your fiancee sent it through USPS, did you pay for delivery confirmation? Usually that's the best way you could tell if they've received it. :innocent:

Okay I just re-read your post -- you used Certified Mail.

When you use Certified Mail, you receive a receipt stamped with the date of mailing. A unique article number allows you to verify delivery online.

So yeah, no tracking online too. But it might be the Holiday in between the mailing period that affected the usual timeframes. Let's just pray both our packages are received soon. :innocent:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSPS tracking problem

Hello everyone.

I'm having trouble tracking my I-129F packet (certified mail) on USPS website. I sent it last fri 05/28/10. And until now I can't track it and when I call USPS costumer service, they said that the number I have is not on their file. I don't have any idea what's happening. Should I worry? I don't know how USPS process on delivering mail. WHat's the other way to make sure that my packet received? Or just wait for NOA1 for now? pls advice. Thank You.

Hi I was stressing out on that, too. We have the same timeframe so it's good to know I'm not alone. BUT I just like to tell you what my fiance told me. You shouldn't stress out on this because apparently we might have had paid for a delivery confirmation which NOT a tracking one, that's why it never appears online. He said once somebody signs for the delivery then a confirmation will be sent out via mail and NOT the USPS website. He forgot to tell me this on the first place so when I knew I stopped checking USPS website. So check if that's what you have too. Hope I've helped. :luv:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPhilippines to Texas
Hi I haven't read all the replies but I think you really need an input from another Filipina.

First, with the birth certificate.. I'm replying here in connection with what happened to my brother. He had his middle name spelled incorrectly on his BC. It only took 3mos to have it corrected. Your fiance just needs to prepare her parent's BC, go to the city hall (city where she was born) and request to have it corrected. They have a so-called "hearing" but it's not like with a judge.. my brother says she just needs talk to a person behind a desk to have it changed.

In my opinion, processing to have it change now will be good as you need NSO certified BC to have a Philippine Passport with the correct name of course. Philippines Passport will take another month to be processed.

Now while she's doing all those, you can already file the K1 packet already. Usual timeframes before it gets forwarded here in USEmba Manila takes 3-6 mos. Enough time for her and at least your "timeline" is already running. :luv:

Yes, got hardcopy of NOA2 already.. delivered through mail 03July but my Fiance didn't check the mail and just saw it today. Approved after 21 days, and exactly one month when we sent it out. No moves/touches/updates on USCIS website. So for all those who have been obsessively checking that website or waiting for an email notification, you may want to check your actual mailing box instead.

and also some seminar she claims to have to attend(which I havent found anywhere)

also any recommendation on where to book flights here?

CFO Counseling Program will take two-hours and costs about Php250

Per Republic Act 8239 and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Order 28-94, Filipinos proceeding abroad as spouses and other partners of foreign nationals are required to attend the CFO's guidance and counseling program as a pre-requisite to the issuance of passports.

Here's the link for http://www.cfo.gov.p...d=235&Itemid=34

And for the flights, you could try http://www.cheapoair.com they can suggest connecting flights. Just be sure to leave enough time for POE delays if it's gonna be a connecting one. Good luck

As a person who lived in the Windies and went through this same thing trying to get visas to live/work in 3rd, 4th , and 5th countries I will say this:

It may be in your best interest to use GENERAL DELIVERY as your return address, go to the post, and get the packages yourself. Other than that, bribe/ butter up the postman. It's better that than staying vexed because old boy can't be bothered to deliver your mail on time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresShould I stay in the country during the visa process?
1. I am currently living in the US and, all things considered, my life is pretty much establish here again. I got another U.S drivers license, bank accounts, credit cards, jobs, etc etc etc.. and will be filing taxes in 2010.

2. We plan on living in the US, at least for the first few years (or until I get sick of it again). Are you saying that a K1 visa requires the person to live in the US? I'm not really sure what you mean? For example, if I stayed in the US until she was granted a temp green card, are you saying we couldnt work abroad after that?

3. In terms of the paperwork, all of that is done and collected. The only thing is the police report which is time sensitive (i.e you have to get it 30 days before your interview or it isnt valid) and thats not really a problem. I guess our main advantage is that we both have pretty flexible schedule and if she needs to go back home for a month to interview/etc.. its not really a problem.

WHAT IS A PROBLEM is if I take this job, leave the country again, and we don't get the visa because i left!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresShould I stay in the country during the visa process?
Hi everyone! So after 6.5 years my girlfriend and I are going to take the plunge and get married. To make a long story short, we met at college outside the U.S, lived together for 2 years in a 3rd country (she was/is a flight attendant.. I was teaching), and managed a life together for about 6 years before I moved back to the U.S after graduate school.

So i'm back and part of the reason is because I thought it would be easier to go through the k1 process if I was here. I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone this but the economy at home still stinks, especially for us finance people! Anyway my old job overseas contacted me yesterday and wants me to come back. All things considered this is a GOLDEN opportunity to make some $$$ especially after graduate school and would take away any need for a co-sponsor.

My question is, would this kill our K1 chances? Specifically, how does this process differ if the petitioner is living abroad? Oh and get this- my girlfriend who is Thai lives abroad also (in Dubai)! With her we are just writing down her Thai address and she will fly home to do the visa process.

Can anyone help shed some light on my situation?

Honestly i wouldn't be thinking about marriage quite yet.

At all.

If the two of you are just beginning your studies just have your boyfriend apply for a school in Canada (McGill or Simon Fraser... i'm biased) and get a student visa. He should be able to at least hold a part time job with that, or a full time campus job. If you really wanted to you could do the same in the U.S. But the fact is that if you two are going to seriously go through with the marriage visa process, on any level, it's going to take a significant investment which could turn out to be for nothing simply because you don't meet the income requirements (note: i dont know if they even have education minimums. i just assume everyone has a degree... again im biased).

If you don't care about any of this and love trumps everything I just said, get married in Canada. The process is much easier!

I did it! My BC buddy did the same thing with his American gf and after they graduated they got married.

I have to say, that's not a bad idea at all.
Are you sure you are allowed to work on student visa though? I have no idea...

Let me ask a question.

Did anyone here pay sin sot?

Get this- my future mother in law, whom I love and have a great relationship with, is making me pay 200k. BUT.. to keep up "appearances", shes putting 1mil baht out on display! Hahaha.. you gotta love Bangkokians.

I'm assuming we have a 85% shot at getting all the cash back after the ceremony.

But i'm wondering, is anyone else going through this?

Kinda your call I guess. My ex tried to hit me up for 300k. I didn't pay any sin sod for my current marriage. I do send her parents money whenever they ask. It's never alot. Maybe 5k baht every couple months.

I've seen people get totally scammed. Buying cars etc. The usual Thai tradition is to pay it. 1 million whether for display or not, is alot. Kinda depends on her education, family etc. They do, do that with the gold and the money etc. at the ceremony and give it back. It's all about appearances.

I'm pretty jaded about all this. I would tell them when she is on US soil, the money will be forthcoming. Not trying to be negative, but I lived there for 3 years and saw some pretty weird things.

I mean i suppose its not a big deal. It's not like we will ever have to send them money for anything, save an economic catastrophe (fingers crossed). It's just funny to me how that was the first thing that came out of her mouth when we talked about marriage. I also lived in there (Bkk+Phuket) for 6 years and saw plenty of people get DONE IN by sin sot.

You're gonna send money there. It wont be alot, but be prepared for it.

I don't know. If the past is anything to go off of, would be willing to bet big money it will be the other way around.

Laugh. If you're getting money sent to the US from Thailand, they will build a statue of you in Udon Thani.

Tsk tsk... my friend you assume my girl is from Isaan. She (we) are Bangkok people. But since you bring it up, the first time we all traveled abroad together, her family sprung for the bill. The same was true when they came to visit us in Dubai.

As i'm sure noone needs to tell you, Thailand is crazily dualistic. This is just another example of it.
