I agree. The whole transfer game is nothing but a cheap trick. For some reaosn we are always at the receiving end. First, TSC filers after July got transferred and we had to wait, seeing them get approved. Now we have been transferred but this time it slowed things down and we are put back in the far end of the line. I predict several months of seeing Jan/Feb TSC filers getting approved and VSC filers from late 2007 before we even get touched!!! This is what jokes about bureaucracy are made from!!!

You got that right. Some guy who filed his I-751 with the TSC in OCTOBER, 2007 just got approved and was crowing about it in another thread. Meanwhile we're getting it up the tailpipe without any lube. Your tax dollars at work. NOT!

Let's not even mention the chick who filed in NSC in JANUARY 2008, was transferred to CSC, and was approved the other week. Two, count 'em, two months. Do they have a rubber stamp for transfers at CSC? I wish they would lend it to VSC.

Anyway, so much for the express CIS policy of first come, first served. Another example of government lying to the sheeple to cover up its incompetence.

James, I don't know if you saw this for all of us transfers this video is for you. Approaching 1 year in 8 days with no touches, what a bummer.

No new news from us either. It is just making us very nervous. I'm sorry to ask a stupid question but what does RFE stand for. I didn't know where to look it up, but was thinking it stood for denial. I hope that isn't in our future.

request for further evidence. Does not automatically mean a denial. smile.gif

That will make me even angrier!!!!! Further evidence??? Meaning that we send once more the package and only GOD will know where is going to end up and in what hands!!!! I am NOT looking forward for RFE!!!! That will be a mess!!!!

Imalin, seriously, you need to relax, you're gonna burst something. Let's not worry about getting an RFE, shall we? We'll cross that bridge when/if it ever comes smile.gif

Yeah I open the USCIS site frequently to see the status of our case, now rapidly approaching 1 year, and it hasn't been touched since 2/25. Guess the best we all can do is lean back, relax, and see how fast VSC processes our cases. What else is one to do?

I will try but... his is not easy.... I want to get rid of USCIS for a while.... but thanks anyways for the support!

It's a party! We got an email late this evening saying the same "Current Status: This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred. blah, blah, blah......." Lots of touching going on but nobody's getting to home plate.

There doesn't seem to be any order to it since our original NOA1 date from the TSC is 4/19/2007.

For a sick laugh check out the processing times for Texas now that they have unloaded the TSC "Losers" to Vermont, now 4/26/07, and poor Vermont hasn't moved off of March 1st, 2007 since last month's post. You have to feel for the VSC original filers. Texas has slowed then down.

My status hasn't been updated since Feb 04 - and after reading that a lot of you have received sth on 14th I started to freak out. 'Glad' to hear though there are some others that have not heard anything since the "Transferred" notice unsure.gif

Btw, I feel special to be leading the list of the TCS aka VSC loosers now good.gif crying.gif

All hail A_C, King of the TSC-VSC Losers®!

But since you haven't been touched since 2/4, I have no idea what the significance is of you and others not getting the 2/14 notice that the petition was received by VSC. Obviously not a chronological thing.

Maybe there were two pickup trucks from TSC, and the one carrying your petition broke down somewhere in Kentucky.

I think sb from the USCIS is lurking around in this forum - just as I posted that I haven't received anything, a few hours later I got the same email that some of you were lucky enough to receive a week ago good.gif So my last 'touch' is stated to be Feb 22 with Status: "This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred". The email was dated today @9:45am.
Not like this is much good news, but now I at least feel a little less of a loser - after all they didn't leave me behind blush.gif

This is what we just received:

Guten Tag fellow Okie! We are in the same boat, get the same message ever time I check case status, but I am getting tired of cutting and pasting our SRC# to the check your case status inquiry. Perhaps we will get our AOS before expiration date. I notice another post from a TSC AOS submitter who submitted late last year and was sent to the CSC.

Why don't you register for an account and indicate that you want email notification? That way you can just login and see when you were last touched (and receive notifications via email of approval or other major developments).

Anyway, I think it's kind of odd that some of us received these "petition received" emails and others haven't, as if they are still in limbo somewhere between TSC and VSC. I can only imagine that it must mean all of us are at VSC, only some of us have been placed in an "on deck circle" or something like that. Who knows . . . .

Thanks James seems I did that previously but forgot ID and password and did the same dance all over again. Last touch 2/4/08, so I suspect that was receipt from TSC. Curious about the folks who transfered from the black hole of mesquite and have touches on 2/14/08, suspect they are on the cusp of getting good news. Incidentally, your children are too cute for words, congratulations and stay warm, freezing here in OKC with freezing rain turning to sleet, consider that as you wander around in shorts and t-shirt!

Our NOA1 date on our I-751 to the TSC was April 19, 2007. My wife had her biometrics done shortly thereafter in May. We were also transferred to the VSC back on January 31, 2008. The last update for us shows as 02/04/2008 as well.

Hmm, well, so much for the chronological order theory.

James, didn't the article discuss how USCIS was going to streamline the background check? I read either the same article or a similar article that discussed the backlog and chronic problems associated with USCIS.

Last update for us was 2/04/08 too.

Hmm, it seems I didn't do this right so wil try again. Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between a touch (and how in the world and where in the "real world" does this come from) and an update? Thanks in advance for your assistance in explaining this to me. We have not received any e-mail contact from USCIS except the fact that we were transferred. Personally, I wish our old compatriot from TSC Tuck Fexas (Appropriately named dno't you think) were here to raise some Billy HELL, but that is just wishful thinking on my part as I imagine the USCIS people waiting for the glacier to push our files from one side of the desk to the other, measuring the increments of movement in microns per year. Okay I have vented, and stand in line like the rest of you waiting for the meager crumbs that USCIS is doling out, perhaps as observed earlier in the process, VSC is one heck of a lot faster than TSC.

Only for Okie girls!!! Hope it happens soon. Sorry you had to drive such a long way for service. Will be in Canada in 4 weeks looking forward to cooler weather and some good fishing!

Well, the drive's not bad, if it's sunny weather! Zip along the toll highway, stereo blasting, not so bad! I just don't want to do it again in 6 months for another bloody stamp! tongue.gif

Hope the fishing's good! Where are you headed?

I am going to Rainy Lake border waters between Ft. Francis and International Falls. Great fishing, been going there for nearly 20 years now. And the weather, scenery, etc. incomparable. Will probably go to Canada to get a Canadian fishing license and remote entry border permit. Canadians only allow one fish a day, so will probably catch and release a bunch. Fishing to my way of thinking is better on the Canadian side, perhaps the low limit has something to do with it, and it is a 20 minute boat trip to get where I want to fish, so a bit off the beaten path.

And I forgot to add that I think the slow down at VSC is due to the fact that they and CSC are the only service centers processing I-751s now. So throw that into the mix and I think you have a good reason for the slow down. We were fortunate in that ours came perhaps before the wave of I-751s were forwarded from the various service centers. And I think that that what we see here as applicants is but a tiny fraction of the cases that VSC is doing.

James, if you could be so kind, add mine to the VSC transfer losers to Vermont list our TSC AOS date was 3/30/07 don't have the submittal date nor the biometrics date, but have received the "Approval" letter transferring us to VSC. From past reviews while sweating out the 1-129 at TSC I remember that VSC was considerably faster than TSC, so perhaps the transfer is a good thing and we will be processed as fast as CSC transfers, upwards of two months if I read the posts right. Good luck to all us transferees, I think we will all be surprised as TSC is probably inundated with all the "let's beat the price increase" filers of every type of USCIS filing.

Just like agrabs said. Don't worry about it. The D.L. thing threw me and my spouse off here in OK. I asked about the EAD at out AOS interview and the employees looked it up and stated that it was still processing. I believe that they were waiting for the results of the AOS interview.

Once again Doc Kirk, you sound like me.

After my divorce, I went from the popular guy, to... Well, I pretty much fell off the earth. Mostly because our friends, truly could not get used to me and the former apart. Still today, neither myself or the former have any of our "old" friends. We've had to make all new. It wasn't until I moved to Russia that my social status returned. Probably says a lot about me. I can see that I enjoy socializing as a couple far more than individually. And like you stated, I feel very comfortable alone when I'm alone. I don't have any need to go out. I'm fine watching a movie with a bowl of popcorn at home.

This subject is something I worry a bit for my Alla. The fact that she has her theatre background, she is used to being around "artsy" very social people. We have spoke about this many times. She told me she is wanting a change and really wants to concentrate on family. In her always interesting words, "Jeffery, I was in theatre because I had not a man in my life. I wanted excitement and not to be bored in my free time. But I have you now. I have my children. It will be enough" I do hope that she will not become overly bored here.

Again, I don't have the actual experience of living with my SO yet, so I'm short on practical advice. It could very well be that 6 months from now I'll be in your situation doing a search for this thread (photo thread...must remember photo thread!) to see what other people advised.

But I think it's pretty clear that she needs to figure out a way to broaden her social circle. Again, I don't know your wife, but I have a hard time buying that it's a choice she makes. Or at least not a choice she wants to make. If it were a choice then she'd have some level of resignation to it, but that's not what I see you describing. It sounds to me like she's coming up with a lot of excuses to not make friends, and that could be a symptom of anything from shyness to clinical, but is most likely something in between. I think it's up to you and her to figure it out. Nobody *wants* to be unhappy or lonely, but many of us cling to it when we've gone through something very life-changing. I used to be a real social butterfly until after my divorce. I holed up and didn't come out for a long time. I still have a difficult time making friends now and hanging out with people. I hate that I'm not as social as I used to be, but there is a strange comfort to it too.

Anway, my 2 kopeks. smile.gif

OK..... any relationship advice I give probably borders on malpractice..... but here goes. Like Kirk and Jeffrey, I also fell off the face of the earth after my 19-year marriage. All our friends (with the exception of my to-the-death fraternity brothers) were "couple friends" and just did not know what to do with me as a "third-wheel" single. My former church friends, with the exception of one man that had been divorced, totally abandoned me now that I bore the scarlet "D" of divorce. If anything, I learned who my true friends were...... and were not.

With respect to my current relationship with Natalia, I knew going in that social isolation might be a problem once she arrived. Accordingly, I developed a long-range plan. Now Natalia is a special case because she is an upscale attorney in her country and had the money and freedom to visit me in the USA. During her USA visit, she met my family and did many social things with my former couple friends..... which felt more comfortable relating to me now that I was a couple again. Natalia also speaks english well which was invaluable in her being able to relate to my friends. After she returned to Russia, Natalia also had the means to afford monthly internet service. Webcam was a Godsend in more ways than the obvious. For the past year, Natalia has been speaking on webcam once a week with my children. Natalia also has been speaking on webcam maybe 30 minutes to an hour each day with my mother. My father passed away last year and Natalia and my mom have become very close. Natalia already feels like she has a strong connection with my family even before she comes here next month. Obviously, this required a strong financial and time commitment from Natalia. However, it was well worth it and the end result is that she is already 50% plugged-in before her foot ever touches USA soil.

When Natalia arrives next month, I plan on inviting our couple friends to our home for dinner at least 1 or 2 times each month. Natalia and I will also host parties at our home maybe once a quarter or every 6 months.

My couple friends were also intitially skeptical of Natalia and our relationship. However, most of the skepticism dissipated once they met her.

Now none of this pre-arrival plug-in advice helps Slim much. His wife is already here and already feels isolated whether by personal choice or outside circumstances. Nevertheless, here is my border-line malpractice relationship advice:

1. Get her english up to conversational level if it is not there already.
2. She does not like your friends? If they are mostly beer drinking buddies, then it is probably time to expand your frienship circle to include more couples.
3. She is a snob? I can't help you there if she is truly a snob and thinks your friends are low-class. If they are low-class then it is probably time to level-up. If they are not low-class, then there is probably something else going on. Communication problems due to poor english skills? One or more of your dude friends hitting on her? The USA wives treating her like a Russian scammer ######? You will need to figure this out.
4. Once you figure out what is really going on (See Step 3), then it's time to step up and host things at your home. I can relate if this is outside your comfort level. I was a litigation attorney for 15 years. Many people find me intimidating. My basic personality can not really be described as warm and fuzzy. I am not a social guy and relating to others, especially new people, is something of a chore for me. Anyway, that is my problem and I need to get past it.
5. She is bored and lonely when you are putting in the long work hours? DANGER DANGER WILL ROBINSON. KG Sodie had some good advice here. Do more things, even very simple things, together.
6. Never underestimate the power of simple gestures to a Russian woman..... or any woman for that matter. Most Russian women like being presented with flowers. Every couple of weeks or so, buy a small $7 - $10 boquet at your local supermarket. Tell her frequently that you love her and that she is a "smoking-hot" babe. From your past posts, it sounds like she truly blossomed as a woman during the interim when you first met her and when she came to you in the USA. She got lots and lots of male attention it sounds like. Give her lots of compliments. Lay it on thick. What might seem a "bit much" to an american woman probably just barely scratches the surface with her.

OK...... that's probably more than enough for now. wink.gif

Good Luck good.gif

Buck

Divorced after 23 years, now married to a lovely Russian woman now almost 4 years, waiting for AOS and 10 year green card ( 11 months and 18 days) like Buck one of those attorneys that everyone loves to hate. Perhaps a thread on favorite attorney jokes for those who have used an immigration atty. for assistance? Anyhow for my two cents, adopt some Russian practices like taking your shoes off when you enter your house, apt. whatever. Find a Russian store in your neighborhood and shop together there. Not one close? Drive to the store, it will be a wonderful shared experience. Old friends common to my former wife dropped like flies, and I as others became my wife's sole focus. Admire the way she dresses up even though you ar just going to wal mart, and dress up some, not a coat and tie but some nice clothes to show how much you appreciate your wife's appearance, and to compliment her for doing the same. I would suggest never letting her lose sight of the dress code in Russia, and encourage her to always look her best when she goes out, because they always do. My wife has gone back to school and to brag on her a little, has mande the dean's list every semester. I tell her Bs are okay but in her mind, not for her. Find as many things in common that you can experience togther. Unfortunately, many of my outside interests don't coincide with what my wife likes, mostly, she like for me to be at home. Hug frequently, and always tell her how much you love her. Her support group of friends and family are a long way away and even with phone cards and internet are not readily accessible. Reading these posts reminds me of many of my shortcomings and if I can remember, will continue to be a more loving and demonstrative husband. It is a very tough transition for both parties. You will hear many times "In Russia we do things differently" and although I don't bite my tongue enough, it is best to not defend our practices, because frankly, they might not be better, or in many instances, worse than Russia. Never run Russia down. It is your wife's home country, and you should be proud of her for her roots, and her upbringing. You will be pleasantly surprised how competitive Russian women are in scholastics, and their desire to do their very best. No employer could ask to find a better more attentive employee that a professional Russian woman, or for that matter, a Russian woman employee. My wife has seen a Russian woman fully embrace the "American" lifestyle, who would not go back to Russia for a visit, and is somewhat disgusted with her. She has seen a good Russian fiancee sent back to Russia, and this dismays her to a degree. It was important for my wife to be married in a Russian Orthodox church and i was glad to accomdate her. After all this verbage, you will never be sorry you married a Russian woman after comparing your Russian wife to the selection we have here in the states. They are truly a pearl without price, and are caring, compassionate, and very attentive to their husband's needs. Best of luck to all.

Perhaps I missed it, but did anyone hear how his fiancee's interview went? Just curious, seems he had some difficulties with the medical exam for his soon to be stepson.

Hello Everyone,

My fiancee and her son had thier interview on June 2. She had her medical papers but her son was not able to get his in time for the interview (because the doctors made him undergoe a psych eval and the results were not ready). She had her medical at IOM. Rather than typing all this info, here is her email to me about the interview:

"My interview was O.K. The officer was in good mood , smiling and joking all the time .
He didn"t torture me with long investigations . When I came up to his
cell, he asked me how I was all right .Then he asked if I was all
right . Then he asked if I could speak English, I answered "no" He
asked if my American fiance could speak Russian , I answered that you
could speak a bit Russian .Then he gave me a sheet of paper and told
me to write your name. I did it. He asked me how we got to know each other , I explained it Then he took my foreign passport from me, so that the visa stamp could be put in it and send it to me by post .
But the visa will be given only in case I sent more documents via
Express post .I don"t need to undergo a repeated interview . Now I"ll explain you about medical exam. I"ve done my own exam in half a day
Andrei"s exam was begun on May 29 , but they couldn"t doctor had a
day-off Then there was a weekend (2 days), the hospital didn"t work
.So Andrei"s exam was over only on June 2, afternoon .And it"s the
result of this exam that i have to send to the embassy now. It"s not
my fault that the doctors did it that long . It is the only missing
paper they are waiting in the Embassy for . On the day of the
interview I arrived to the embassy at 6.00 am I did it in advance
because there are awful traffic jams in Moscow I waited till 8,00
when it opened and came in. They looked through all my things and paper thoroughly. Then they gave me a ticket and told me to come up to an officer’s window. Then i was waiting until I was called through a loud -speaker.I"ve already told you about the interview. Many of the girls tried to speak English with officers, but it only irritated the
Officers because speaking was too bad. The girl that went before me
was investigated for 3 hours , she spoke English but it didn’t
help. There were many girls who already had married Americans here in Russia, and they got their visas very quickly .Some of them even had children with them born with American men all the married girls got their visas If we had married in Ufa. i may have got a visa already. Now I’ll send them the medical exam result and then I’ll wait for the answer."

Hopefully this info help others when it comes time for your interview. I still wait for a reply from the Embassy about how long it will take for her and her son to get a visa...

It sounds to me like a standard interview, with approval pending the psych papers. Glad to hear that everything (from the sound of it) went alright. Imagine being sweated for 3 hrs. I went to Moscow for my wife's interview and although I wasn't admitted the security officer noted on the interview sheet that I was present. I think it helped with my wife's interview, with many of the same questions that everyone else reported. Please keep us posted on future events and although perhpas a bit premature, congratulations.

It's funny how all the posters have skipped around your initial question. It's a great question, that I want someone to answer.
Transcripts prove you actually filed your taxes.
Anyone can hypothetically generate a tax return.
What is the goal of the USCIS? To prove we file taxes, to prove amount earned (W2) would be sufficient for that.
My wife's citizenship interview letter says bring transcripts or copies of return. But here I think they are checking whether she filed taxes these last three years.
Anyone?

We have used returns all the way through. If they ask for either should be your choice. Besdies they can check with IRS easy enough to see whether you did in fact file. If someone shows up with bogus returns they claim they file helps the USCIS set you up for citizenship denial and potential fraud.

Hi All,

On Tuesday I'll be flying back to Russia to get Ira, and we'll return on the 5th. My question for you all is this: is there anything we'll need to bring back from Russia besides the sealed packet that the embassy provided? For those of you who made this journey already, is there anything you wish you'd brought that wasn't "necessary" but would have made certain things easier?

I'd appreciate any advice/wisdom you all have.

Thanks in advance,

Z

PS: I can't believe this part of the journey ends in just 10 days. Whew!

Lots of meds that aren't readily available here in the states, deodorant, toothpaste, Russian chocolate, Russian DVDs and music. A lot depends on the city you are in and the availability of these products in a Russian store. My wife has found many of the above on the internet (except meds and I suspect those are available from a Canadian on-line pharmacy if your state allows you to buy the same, might need a scrip from your doctor). good luck in Russia and God bless.

Sorry to dissuade you, but here in Oklahoma we use the word "tater" and when we want to talk about that children's toy with the changeable parts (formerly the artist known as Mr. Potato Head) we refer to him as Korat, and you thought I was going to say Mr. Tater head. Actually, we find those who bear an uncanny resemblance to Mr. Tater head whether physically, or conceptually (that's where we visualize the person who has no photo on their personal page for the interested reader to compare whether the person is Mr. Tater head or not, so someone like me) to their posts and independently determine if the person is a Mr. Tater head or not. Thanks for the interesting posts I know you are entertaining many of the VJ Russia sub-forum members here, but going on about Kirk or Mox on multiple posts, come on do the words ad nauseum ring any bells? Keep up the good? work as I am sure Slim is sharpening barbs and witticisms just for you, and remember, Cincinnati would not be a place to visit if I were you, it seems Slim has borrowed a pair of my pointy toed cowboy boots (yep we still wear them here even to court, to get married, church and other high social events) so I hope that Slim sends my boots back sans your unmentionables. We usually end up eating different things. (We're on different schedules... 3rd shift sucks!)

However, when we do eat together, and she cooks something, it's usually somewhat Russian in nature and she adds some salads or greens on the side for her. If we eat American food, she still grabs some pickles or cucumbers or something to "make crunchy green" stuff on the side. She simply cannot eat without having a salad on the side.

I am making progress with getting her to eat "$#!tty food." I'll sneak in some chicken wings, pizza, and the new treat is the microwaveable BBQ rib sandwiches (like the McDonald's McRib, only more ghetto!) that I take in my lunch to work. I buy an 8 pack and only get to eat about 6 of them. Where the other two go, I'll never know!

The "Boss" ate bugwheat and borscht, the menial worker ate jambalya w/chicken. Too spicy for the Boss.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusGeorgia/Russia Conflict
My wife was a lieutenant in the Russian military. She never fired a weapon. Now I have started her out on a cheapo 22 single action and she shoots pretty tight groups. She loves to shoot. (don't know who she imagines is the target and too afraid to ask) Will probably buy the S&W version of the target revolver to move her up to double action revolver and more accuracy. While shooting last time someone next to us was using a real hand cannon maybe a 454 Casull or something like that. I flinched while they fired and she calmly plinked away. Mox, a good gun for the home is a winchester defender or maybe a 357 large frame revolver loaded with 38 glaser rounds.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusGeorgia/Russia Conflict
My wife has been following this quite closely on Russian TV, and it has convinced her that when she gets her citizenship in 9 days, who she is going to vote for. And I remember some story about how the Russian peacekeepers were asked by both countries Georgia and SO) to be in SO. That being said, I think the Russians are showing the world that they can do anything they want in the area, and perhaps it is a bit retalitory, but who can do anything to them, much more who cares? My wife has family friends in SO and is going to ask her mom what is happening to friends. She also said they had an American on Russian TV living in SO who spoke in English and outlined that his wife's family had many family members who had been killed, not by the Russians but the Georgians. If you kick the bear in the butt it is best to mind his claws. If you want to change the mentality in DC don't vote for incumbents, all they do is start raising funds for the next election cycle, they only look out for their interests and those of their financial supporters. Vote for the guy or gal who is least popular, who is willing to say we have many unpleasant situations we need to clean up here at home, so we need to attend to our own business, and get our house straightened up before we start importing our American "goodness" to other countries. Don't be surprised if you see the good ole USA being the next third world toilet that everyone wants to avoid, simply because our elected officials (read winners of the beauty or popularity contest armed with charming sound bites and no clue what to do) will not face the American people with some unpleasant truths and hard to swallow solutions to the problems that beset us.

So it's really cold in the winter, expensive as hell, you have traffic jams at 2:00 AM, and a website where you can send text messages to hookers that look better than Anna Kournikova and they'll arrive (with a friend if you're so inclined) pipin' hot and fresh, just like a Domino's Pizza in less than 30 minutes?

Are the cops corrupt? Do old women charge you to use their porta-potties? Do you have million dollar apartments nustled away inside buildings that are so dilapitaded they should be condemned? Are your cab drivers drunk all the time? Do you have hooligans mulling about outside at your bus stops? Is your McDonald's a gourmet restaraunt?

When you go to the grocery store is there a security guard with an AK-47 greeting the customers?

Is beer cheaper than bottled water?

Do all 12-year-olds smoke? (And look like they could kick your @$$?... Svolochi!)

And last but not least......

Do you have to take your shoes off when you go into someone's home?

I don't mind taking off the shoes, we do it at home, but it is really uncomfortable to do so in other peoples homes, especially if you wear boots and the strange looks you get! But my money would be on Ekaterinburg it is an interesting city with many beautiful sites, and a big 10-4 to Slim on the corrupt cops and bureacracy in general and the dilapidated pee and cabbage smelling apartment buildings that contain well appointed apartments.

Sorry but I forgot, I haven't been to Juarez for a long time, used to just drive across and then walk across to get extra liquor, don't know if they card you on the Mexican side or not. You need to check with the USCIS about travelling under the green card, my wife went back to Russia on her conditional, and as soon as possible applied for permanent residency got 10 year GC, and just received citizenship and 10 day later passport. Your wife might need to flash her Russian passport at both sides of the border. Don't hold me to this, but without authority to travel from USCIS, I don't think she can leave the country before she re-enters. And don't always take the word of USCIS, sometimes the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I know under the I-129 she only got entrance into the US one time.

Will be happy to share with you! I myself am not self-employed work for the state last 14 years so get very good leave time, 1 month work=13.3 hours vacation leave + 10 hours sick leave. Did stick my AK Diver see my member for a price per minute in a gold mine a couple of years ago, so I could retire if I wanted. If you are close to a Russian store or Russian church that will help acclimate your spouse (I had to make a curds run to the Russian store last night). PM me and I will see if I can pick up a locally published Russia-America newspaper so you can subscribe, get on their mailing list etc. I can't remember how long it took my wife to acclimate, it seems like forever, but once she got the driving thing going she gets around OK by herself. But is quick learning US consumerism. Still driving her first car in pristine condition, less than 30k miles, and is hinting around for a Rav 4. She got into school pretty quickly, didn't want to practice her profession here, so she is changing her life in yet another way. I do greatly appreciate input, some of suggestions are really great, I do not mean ones about jars and water rationing, but the ones about interesting places to see.
In pissing issues I tend to agree with akdiver, for me stops are much more fun than driving itself, getting a chance to see new places and faces. Otherwise I just fly if in a hurry, and they have a toilets on planes still for free, so no need for containers (not yet, but you just wait..)

You are more than welcome. When your wife has the carta verde then I would also recommend going across the border and buying groceries at the Super pronaf store and some cheap booze. If you get into that part of New Mexico there are many wonderful things to do. Holler at me if you want to know more details. I went to undergrad school there and spent a lot of time out roaming around. The Gila National Forest at one time was the least utilized national forest in the US. Sorry I thought you were coming from Calf. not paying enough attention. If your wife is a nature girl there are some wonderful places to turquoise hunt, and you an always run the back roads up to Santa Fe and Taos. So if you live in Houston area (sorry my team beat UH last weekend) have some stone crabs for me at that seafood restaurant there, don't think it was Captain Benny's, or Hydens.

If you are going through New Mexico get off I-10 at Lordsburg go to Silver City and if you are up to it, stay the night there. If you like Mexican food try the Silver cafe. (Hint: my wife does not like anything spicy, so might want to avoid the same for your wife) Great little museum at WNMU with Indian cultural items from a couple of tribes that disappeared centuries ago. Take the time to go north to Pinos Altos and enjoy an old ghost town and high pines. If you have time, go North out of Silver City on highway 12, will take you up to the mountains and the Gila wilderness area. If you feel adventurous, get off the highway and go to Mogollon, if the road is open go up to little cherry and see the elk herds, might see some mountain goats. On the way back stop at the catwalk in Glenwood, a fun little side trip. Then I would go from Silver City to Truth or Consequences via 152 great country including the devils backbone, and once you get to I-25 go South to El Paso and take 10 to points East. Good beaches in Corpus Christi and Galveston, Houston is interesting, Dallas good shopping and the JFK site. If you want to continue East on I-10 would go to New Orleans, see the French Quarter, the Audobon zoo, the Aquarium, walk the Mississippi along the riverwalk. Avoid Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa not much to see (although they have an Amish settlement at lamoni Iowa at the Missouri Iowa border on I-35 that sell handwoven basket and the like, and homemade pies (for Slim) pastries, breads, jams and jellies from their horse drawn wagons right off I-35, some Amish will let you visit their farm and see rural living without the modern conveniences of elec. tele. cable etc.). Would definitely cone back through either Northern New Mexico or Colorado, hit Moabin Utah, or go on up to Saltr Lake pretty country. Yellowstone is a great idea, but not now, early Summer before all the tourist get there, and if you go North out of Yellowstone great scenery. Jackson Hole is good, a bit touristy but the views of the Tetons are spectacular. Good luck and keep your wife occupied.
