CanadaIncome Tax Return
Hi all Happy New Year

We have a question needing answering. I'm here in WA with Lorry going back to Nova Scotia Jan 3
We've been getting everything together that I'll be requiring for my interview in Montreal when the time comes

Will I need a copy of Lorry's last income tax return? We've looked in numerous boxes and can't find it. Is it necessary to have that return with me She has already the letter from her employer and pay stubs showing income for the yr.

Any assistance would be of great help to us
Thanks

CanadaInterview

I can't speak for Montreal, but in Vancouver they did not keep the evidence I brought. The officer interviewing me asked to see some of it during the interview, looked at it, and gave it back right away.

Thanks for the reply That's what I was wanting to know whether they keep em

Hi All Hope everyone is doing well
A quick question. I think they'll give me back mine and Lorry's birth certificates
Will they also give me back the pictures and keepsake souvenirs such as cards, letters concert tickets
Just wondering whether to start copying everything to have in case they keep it all.

Thanks

CanadaSay WHAT?! (Medical Exam)

I had the same question when I got my checklist. Take Mephys' advice and just check everything off and send it back. I originally 'guesstimated' an appt. and booked the medical and then had to reschedule it. Honestly, I could have simply waited until I got the appointment letter (packet 4).

Mo

Hi Everyone I can't seem to grasp something here regarding the medical. My case is now at the Consulate in Montreal since Jan 3.
Will they informing me in Packet 3 when to set up a medical appt and I just make the appt at that time or do they tell me in packet 4 to get the medical set up
Sorry but I'm a bit confused on how this all plays out and would like to be prepared ahead of notification
I know Monique above says appointment letter packet 4 Mephys scheduled upon getting packet 3 Could I get my medical after getting packet 3 or do I need to wait for packet 4 to make the appointment

I know you've been there already any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

CanadaPacket 3 returned to consulate

You can have packet 3 sent to a business address? Do you tell the consulate after they receive their case from NVC? That would be handy rather than have it mailed to my house.

Who knows who messed up... Canada Post sucks!

I feel for you Take a look at the story in my timeline about postal service and what they can cause
Good Luck

Hi Allie, What we are going through is nothing like what you had to, we are well in advance of the timeline we set for ourselves even with this short delay. I am glad that everything is back on track and very soon it will be all over, at least for this part and for future process you will be together and able to comfort each other through whatever comes your way.

Waiting to read that you have finaly made it to your new home and you are with the love of your life.

Ron/Shron

Hey Ron
Thanks for the kind words. Hope it all goes well for you too.
We're all waiting for that day to get through all this and to be
with our loved one

CanadaPackage 3

Hi all
I just received the package 3 and started filling it out

I'm at question 14 where it asks name of spouse and birthdate along with marriage date

My wife passed away 2 yrs ago how do I answer this question I already marked in the box on question 9 widowed
Also question 19 asks to list all my children They're all grown now and have families of thier own and won't be accompanying me to the U.S. Do I still list them.

One other thing :) on the check list they want, some items don't apply like court prison records or military record do I just put NA in the box
Is there a fax # I can fax the checklist back to them at ?

Thanks for any help on thes inquiries

Allie

Another one question 22: in what occupation do you intend to work in the United States what will I put in there I don't havea job lined up as of yet

CanadaChecklist

W-2s may not be in the mail for a few weeks yet, so if you don't have one, don't worry. It's the IRS tax transcripts that tell the income story, so that's the best bit of supporting evidence. I believe Caladan has a good "package," with tax return, letters from banks and employer, and pay stubs. There's also a co-sponsor.

Once again, it's up to the officer to pass judgement: is there enough evidence to show that the foreigner will be supported by family and not the taxpayer. I'd say there's plenty of evidence.

Thanks for the reply Jersey Girl
What Lorry sent me is a copy of the 2005 tax return she filed. It has everything on there for income and deductions If they ask for the W2 I won't have it.. We're hoping it won't be grounds for non-approval Everything else they need I have.
It seems as this all gets closer to conclusion the panic and what if mode is setting in regarding paperwork required by the Consulate
Good luck to you on the 18 Hope it all goes well

Thanks

Sorry Allie, but I sent mine way back when too, so I may be playing by 'old rules'. Honestly, I would do what the letter tells you (but keep a copy of the document for yourself of course) and definately get in touch with the embassy first if you have any doubts.

Monique

Thanks Monique for the reply
Yeah it appears they may have changed thier way of doing things . I just saw on the bottom of the sheets where it states updated 12/ 22/ 06. I'll just send as they say and will make copies of everything.
I'll try calling them again I may get by the recorded music eventually lol

Good luck on the 17

CanadaDo I also send

I believe that its just those three, the checklist, DS156 and DS230. Everyone says not to send the DS156 but I'm thinking that they just recently decided they wanted that mailed to them also. My fiance just got his packet 3 like 2 weeks ago and this is what it told him to send.

Hi do you know if he affixed the 2 passport pics to the DS156 they want and sent them too
I read somewhere in here they'll require 2 passport pics at the interview
What's on my cover page reads to send the checklist, duplicate DS156, and DS230 immediately too

I wonder if Montreal has changed it's format from when Mephys and CutienPurg sent the package 3 items back
It would be nice if there's anyone as recent as us in here returning forms to find out what they did.
I tried several times calling Fri at the times they specify to contact. As far as I got was recorded music
I want to mail it tommorrow but want to be sure about everything. Including affixing the 2 pics and sending them too

Thanks
Any assistance would be of great help

For Montreal I believe you only send back the checklist and the DS-230 and hold the rest til interview time.

Thanks for your reply
Step one says please complete and return immediately the enclosed DS-230 Part 1 and form DS-156 in duplicate
At the bottom it says complete the single copy Form DS-156K Nonimmigrant Fiance Visa Application
It doesn't say whether to send it along with the other 2 and the checklist or bring it to the interview I'm just confused over the DS-156K whether it's mailed or not
I want to mail all this as soon as possible but don't want to send stuff I shouldn't

Thanks

Hi all
Just a quick question : On returning the forms from pkg 3. I send the checklist , form DS-230, two copies of the Form DS-156
What about the Form DS-156K (Nonimmigrant Fiance Visa Application) does that go along with everything else in the mail or does that come with me to the interview

Thanks for any assistance

There's a supplement? What's it for?

I wanted to check to make sure I had everything before mailing this and couldn't find the instruction sheet.

Canadaoriginal cover letter

do i need to have the original cover letter from packet 3 for the medical? or will a photocopy work...cause if i need the original im pretty much screw..its the opposite side of the page from the beginning of the checklist and i needed to get that sent back because i've heard montreal is brutal for interview waiting time..thanks

A photocopy should probably be okay, because all they really need is your application number. Has Montréal changed things since half a year ago? The cover letter is a separate sheet from the checklist in my packet 3, IIRC.

Yes Montreal has changed things Now they want the checklist the 230 form and the duplicate DS-156 sent along to them in Montreal

CanadaMovine-? about customs and border crossing

We took a van load of possessions with us, then sent the rest by professional movers. Each item should be boxed with like items and a description placed on the outside of the box, ie. kitchen ware; linens; bedding; winter clothes; games; knick-knacks; books, etc. Electronic items need to have the serial number recorded. Make a list of each box and contents, ie box 1 books, box 2 knick-knacks, box 3 laptop computer, Sony, serial # xxxxxxx, etc. Seal up each box well as for safe packing. Keep the list of items you are moving and be prepared to hand the list to the border official when you enter the US. The list from the professional movers was checked over although nothing was inspected further. None of the items we brought across in the van, which included our 6 pet cats and houseplants (with their proper phytosanitary certificates) were inspected nor was the list looked at. Experiences vary though so you should be prepared to have the contents inspected although they probably will not be. There are prohibited items you are not allowed to bring (firearms, liqueur filled chocolates, lottery tickets, etc.) and restricted items (alcohol, tobacco, etc.) and you should read up on those so you don't inadvertently pack something you shouldn't, just in case.

You can bring your firearms but you have to obtain and present an approved firearms importation certificate from U.S. Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives at your POE

It takes awhile I applied on Nov. 17 to take 2 hunting rifles with me when I leave. I have heard back on 2 occasions from them to verify 2 of the questions on the form
The import certificate is valid for 1 yr after receiving it.

Yes Montreal will let you bring that in. They didn't even really inspect mine that I could remember (they were too busy frisking me hee hee). Mine was a plastic see through one. Worked like a charm, and I had all the tabs clearly labelled using the checklist as my guide. Worked like a charm, and I kept the file intact and originals inside, and am now using the same said folder for my AOS. :)

Okay thanks for the info. I'll get the type folder I was thinking on taking it'll organize really well

Hi All
Although I'm not scheduled for Montreal just yet, I'm getting everything all in order for the interview
I would like to know. Just what type folder am I allowed into the Consulate with? Will they let me take one of those enclosed accordion type filing organizers in? It looks like a small case when it's all closed up and only has the pockets for paper filing in it.
I do have a lot of stuff in a plastic filing folder now but it's not seperate pocket sleeves. The paper work is just stacked back to back
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks Allie

CanadaAny improvements for Montreal?
I just got off the phone with Montreal. She told me I was entered into thier system on Jan 25 and put on the waiting list for scheduling
I asked could I get an estimate just when my interview would happen. She said anywhere from 2 to 4 months from the entering date of Jan 25
So I said "then it'll be in May" and she told me it could be anytime from 2 / 4 months in that time frame
So here I sit still waiting and wondering

CanadaVisting Husband While Waiting for K3
I plan on taking that same gamble very soon. I'm going to do my interview waiting in WA with Lorry if I can
I've made 3 trips already without a problem but the longest was for only 3 weeks. This time I'm buying my return ticket out to 2 1/2 months Hope they don't have a problem with the length of time I'll be staying
My POE will be Halifax instead of Toronto this time. That way if I do get denied entry I won't be heartbroken to far from home
Anyone ever go through Halifax POE before? Are they as stern as the bunch in TO.
Good luck to you I hope we both make it to where we want to do our interview waiting
