CanadaInterview Date

Congrats!!!

The size of the enveloppe is written in the instructions included with the interview appointment letter that they will send you. Hang on let me check my letter...

Ok they took it off at my interview cause both sheets were stapled together. But its the biggest size enveloppe. The address they will send it to is the address that you will write yourself on it. So all they will have to do is stamp their address on the Sender section. You must add the signature at delivery option cause you dont want them to leave your passport there without supervision. Worse case if you are not at home that day you will be able to pick it up at the nearest postal office from the address and you will be able to sign yourself.

Hope it helps!

Thanks Mephys. That is everything I was wanting to know about. I got the big envelope 314mm x394 mm. signature on delivery

Canadagot an interview date!!

For the interview, you need to take:

* the letter giving you your interview date. You'll need this to get through security. this letter should also state anything else specific that you need to bring with you.

* all the paperwork that you checked off on the checklist that you had to send in. For example: the police certificate, the envelope full of your medical results, etc etc.

* an updated letter from the USC stating that he/she is still free and willing to marry you once you get to the US.

* any forms that you are supposed to take with you and sign when at the consulate

* any other evidence of relationship that you want to take with you. For example, I took things that showed our relationship was still going strong since we sent in the I-129f -- pictures from trips we took together, my engagement ring receipts, etc.

Make sure that you don't take too much, in that you are only allowed a small bag/purse through security -- no backpacks or anything of that nature, they will turn people away and not let you through.

I have all my paperwork in a 13 pocket accordion folder I purchased at Staples. It's loaded with original documents along with a 2 copies of everything we sent. I have the complete packet 3 copied also in there. You might say I am just leery of Montreal and the whole USCIS process :) There is also the engagement receipt, pics of us , airline boarding passes emails, cards we exchanged phone bills, calling cards (evidence of our ongoing relationship) along with restaurant, theatre receipts and other events we attended while I was visiting Lorry
Will they allow me through security with this accordion folder? It has a clear plastic front but the back flap is a solid tan color. I hope it won't be a problem, as it would be difficult keeping everything orderly in a plastic bag

CanadaPOE Question

What is the routine when I go to activate the K-1 Visa at my POE. I'll be entering through Halifax Airport and they have only recently established a US POE certification there.
I spoke with them yesterday to find out thier procedure as to entering with my belongings. They explained where I was to go before checking in at the airline desk. They told me up until now I'll be the first K-1 Visa they process at Halifax POE. Hope they know what to do lol lol
When I inquired about the I- 94 she said that the airline will give that to me. So when I get this I-94 what does the POE officer do with it? Do they give it to me to have for future use? Is it stamped or do they write something on it? What is the routine so I'll be sure to have everything I require later for filing AOS

Thanks
Allie

Make sure when you check in with your airline that you ask for the I-94 ... I suggest you file it out before proceding to Immigration ... Once you get up to the window let the officer know that you are activating your K-1 Visa ... They will send you into a different area (secondary screening) and this is where they will go through your brown envelope ... As mentioned above, they will staple the I-94 into your passport and stamp it with the current day and write in the expiry date ... They will also write in your A# ...

It was a breeze ... good luck ...

You appear to be confusing the I-94 with the US customs form. Airlines have never given out I-94's, though they do hand out customs forms at the counter (used to be, they had a pile of them there and we could just haul away a set--but not in the last 8 years).

I-94 is given by the inspecting USCIS officer for K-1/K-2 and TN-1/TD.

The Officer I spoke with told me I would get the I-94 from the airline counter when I check in She said I was to present it at the Customs booth when I enter. I know about the blue Customs form one fills out for takingitems into the US on a visit. I have also noticed a pile of whiter card forms next to the blue item forms Could thos ebe the I- 94 cards

CanadaPOE Question

Hi Allie,
I'm sure you'll have no trouble with going through Halifax. I entered at Minneapolis. I filled out the I-94 that the airline gave me. I went through Customs/Border and identified myself as activating my K-1 Visa. They took me to the front of a whole new line, so I didn't have to wait. You might try that! I gave the Officer my brown sealed envelope, then then took my I-94 ripped off a part of it, stapled the rest in my passport. They wrote my A# on the I-94 and the expiry date. Then they stamped it. Don't take this off, it must remain in your passport. Then I looked into a little camera they had mounted on the glass, and they took my picture. Then took my fingerprint right there at the desk. Then they said Welcome to America, and away I went. Took about 5 min. Now Minneapolis must get lots of K-1 Visas, but I don't know that each and every Officer has processed one, but I wouldn't worry.

That's about it! Best of luck during your entry!

Carla (F)

Thanks for the information That is exactly everything I was wanting to know about the I-94 And the procedure involved

The I-94 is a very important document that you must maintain. The document will indicate amongst many things, your length of approved stay (in K-1 speak, the date in which you must married by).

Thanks for the info on the I- 94 and what it's for

I'm going to assume that you have NOT yet booked the ticket. An idea you can use in that case is to fly to Calgary and then board a SFO-bound United flight (which usually does make a stop in Spokane).

Hi thanks for the info and the idea. AirCanada is United's partner here in Canada on flights to the US. I usually fly on the one flight purchase out of Halifax with AirCanada on the portion of the flight within Canada then connect to United for the US travel . 3 previous visits to Lorry went Halifax,Toronto, Denver to Spokane Since they now have US entry in Halifax The path is Halifax Boston, Denver, Spokane

CanadaJust to confirm: Should I still file my EAD first before AOS?
If filing the EAD ahead of the AOS would the fee for the EAD be at the present cost or does the new fee come into effect. I know it does state that if the AOS is filed before July30 ahead of the new fee rates Then regardless the EAD and Advance Parole fees are at the new rate structure

CanadaNew USCIS fees
I just looked into the present fees from USCIS

I- 485 AOS $325.00
I- 131 Advance Parole $170.00
I- 765 EAD $180.00
Fingerprint biometric $ 70.00

Total $745.00

To file on July 30 and after would be $1010 including the boimetric fingerprinting.
To file the I-485 before the fee change is $325.OO Then because of filing before the fee increase one has to pay the new rates on the I-131 $305.00 and the I-765 $340.00 and I assume the fingerprinting fee of $70.00 Then the grand total would be $1040.00

Just another Gov. cash grab
AllieNot TellingCanada2007-06-02 10:29:00
CanadaNew USCIS fees
What are the rates now before this takes effect? From what I read at the very bottom where it's explained If one files thier I-485 before the fee changes then to get the EAD and advance parole you file a new seperate application for those and it's at the new fees listed.
So it may be better to wait till July 30 and file and let the fee of $1,010 cover the 3 applications. I don't know the present rates so I'm not sure on the figures of before verses later

Local RCMP that is. I think it wouldn't matter whether one goes RCMP or local Police as the National Police Records files are administered by the RCMP

CanadaMailing Items

How much are you declaring the value for? Cause I would think there will be no way to NOT pay duty on it if you send it via regular mail.

I'm not sure as the pics are personal family photos. So the only stuff with monetary value would be the
70 or so music CD'S and the several books. I suppose the value would be based on what I paid for the cd's and the books I'm not sure how to value it all

When I do go I'll be making my POE at Halifax Nova Scotia and flying onto Boston then Denver to Spokane . If I go to Immigration at Logan International I'll get my EAD stamp Could you possibly give me an idea just where Immigration is at Logan and also does one pay for this stamp when given
Thank you

You won't get a stamp in Boston, because you will clear US Customs at the PFI in Halifax.
I have yet to hear that any airport in Canada gives the temp EAD stamp.

Caladan cleared at Peace Bridge no stamp given there either. Now that you mention it I am going to ask at Halifax for it when I make my POE. They have only been certified as a US POE since Jan. so I may just luck out there and receive it. If not then I'll try Boston if flight time allows me to run around

You do sign the electronic generated form, did you send 3 pages. Page 3 has the bar code on it
I included my passport pics attached. I later called inquiring whether I was to bring them (pics) to the interview they told me no need too as they were sent with the packet 3

CanadaCanada Day Celebrations

Good idea I use to get those Canada pins and the Provincial flag pins when we would make our FastPitch tournament trips to the US. Those things were in big demand I never realized so many people collected those

I used to work for my MP in his constituency office and the Canada flag pins and small hand held Canadian flags were big items! Each MP has an allotment he is allowed to distribute - we always exceeded our allotment (VBG)- and he can always purchase more at the Member's discounted price through Government Services. Definitely obtain a supply of those before you leave. If someone wanted more than the allotment we allowed per individual (10 per individual or 25 a family), we offered them the opportunity to purchase as many as they wanted at the same discounted rate. One of our Ottawa staff would go over in person to purchase the pins, mail them to our constituency office and the constituent would then pick them up from us. We did ask for payment up front, however, and used that money to make the purchase for them. Your MP may do the same sort of arrangement if he/she restricts the number of freebies you can have. You may also be able to get a full sized Canada flag - we would give those out on occasion as well although we had considerably fewer of those available and generally required a reason other than 'I just want one':-). There are also all sorts of little booklets available from Foreign Affairs for Canadians travelling/moving away from Canada - you may want to ask for anything his/her office has available.

It's not often one get something free from the Gov. so I'll be asking my local MP for some Canada souvenirs to take State side
