CanadaNo DS-3025 to file with I-693A
Alll I sent for AOS was the Supplement 693-A form signed by a U.S. Civil Surgeon. All she did was copy my immunization records from the 693 copy the Civil Surgeon that did my medical gave me

What happens when a U.S citizen takes up residency in Canada and becomes a Canadian citizen. Do they lose thier U.S citizenship and do they have to apply to become a U.S. citizen again if they wish to come back to the U.S.

As far as I know, Canada does not require that you renounce citizenship to any other country.

I think you're right Canada doesn't require one to renouce allegiance or sovereinty to another State or Country. What I'm trying to find out is how does the U.S. look at a U.S. citizen becoming a Canadian citizen. By doing so is thier U.S citizenship revoked. Does the U.S citizen have to re- apply for U.S. citizenship
If we ever moved back to Canada and Lorry became a Canadain citizen but then say several years later she missed her home and family and wanted to move back to the U.S. would she have retained her U.S. citizenship or is she immigrating

Dual citizenship is our plan....then moving back to Canada

I actually voted "no" because I never want to denounce my Canadian citizenship. It was my understanding that one has to denounce citizenship to any other country during the citizenship ceremony. Isn't that the case?

That is what my husband and I had thought too ... that, even if it is possible to legally retain Canadian citizenship, that the ceremony requires that you denounce citizenship to any other country.

At my AOS interview I was told because I was married to a USC I could apply for U.S. citizenship in 3 yrs instead of waiting the required 5 yrs. When I brought up that I would be dual citizenship if I did take out US. citizenship. I don't think she liked it very much.
She proceeded to to give me the U.S Oath of Citizenship about renouncing allegiance to any foreign State or Sovereignty and told me although Canada may still recognize my Canadian Citizenship the U.S only recognizes U.S. citizenship and if you give up U.S citizenship for another country you're not a U.S. citizen
After reading what Karen presented here I think the lady at Immigration needs to brush up on things

CanadaAfter reading this..
Not all people can handle a position of authority. Some get on the power trip train and like to exhibit thier "I control what happens here attitude.
As Cassie states, Nieks and Ziggy are a true asset to the VJ family and I for one have inquired to them on various issues. I'm sure they do thier job very well and are just as helpful outside VJ.

When going for the medical you have to have your immunization records with you. Where can you get that from your Doctor or are there other shots you need to have done before you go to your medical??

Hi! You can request your immunization record from public health.

I'm sure every doctor is different, but I went to Woking Medical in Vancouver and they told me that I only needed to have the Mumps, Measles, Rubella vaccine and the tetanus shot within 10 years. ( I was surprised by this because I was expecting to have to have a few shots). The rest, they marked "not age appropriate." Call the doctor and ask them which are necessary for your age category.

Some provinces Public Health only hold immunization records for 25 yrs. I requested mine in N.S. and was told this

CanadaFiling 2007 taxes in the US
I've been doing lots of the research you speak off and still a bit unsure on some issues lol lol
I think I did read that if you file jointly he has to put down your world wide income. I may be wrong stating this and if so hopefully someone will correct me
Good luck in figuring this tax year all out smile.gif

CanadaFiling 2007 taxes in the US
I collect a monthly company retirement pension which is administered and paid by a Canadian financial institute. It's deposited monthly into my bank acct. in Canada.
After this year's tax filing will I still have to file a Canada Tax return each year on that pension income earned in Canada

I'm really lost on how this tax stuff is suppose to work with 2 countries involved

Canada2007 taxes
If he had income in Canada he has to file income tax and I think he has to report all world income on the Canadian tax form.I'm not sure on the resident/non resident issue in his case. I'm sure someone here will know how that goes.

Sorry to hear about your cat. We all get very attached to our animals and they are a big part of the family. I had to put my Shepherd (Mindu) that I had for 14 yrs. down 3 yrs ago it was a heartbreaking time.

CanadaI don't THINK I need to file a US Tax return
QUOTE (zyggy @ Mar 4 2008, 11:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
No.. you can only get the credits until the date you physically left Canada. The proration that the program did is absolutely correct. Do not override it.

WHen it refers to tax treaty benefits... that's really going beyond your scope for your type of return. THe fact that you can exclude your income or take a foreign tax credit is not part of the tax treaty benefits.

Then Lorry only claims my pension income in Canada from the day I activated the Visa (June 26). Is that how this will work Ziggy or does she claim my years pension income, the EI collected while here in the U.S. and taxable amount on it for the whole amount.
Sorry but this tax yr. has me totally confused. I always filled it out in Canada but that IRS site only creates confusion when trying to make sense of it all

Don't go by Canada Post tracking site. In my opinion it's not very reliable. When I was tracking mine it wasn't showing on the tracking site and the day it did show as being entered in Montreal the mailman was at the door that morning with my Visa

CanadaHow do you enter the USA on a K1 Visa
I thought it was strange. I immigrated here 12 years ago with my family from England so this process is not really that new for my family and my dad thought I was crazy too!! Thats awesom we can enter here. I am in Halifax so we have the pre-clearance here and as I fly back and fourth every 2 weeks the customs agents know me now by name and are really friendly with me. One of them said to me last week why don't you just move down!!!

I am just wondering, as canadians we pre-clear us customs here in canada, so what happens when we get our Visa approval how do we enter the USA and go thru immigration if we enter as a domestic. I heard that we canadians had to fly over to England and then fly back to a POE in the USA so we could go thru immigration. Is this true?

CanadaJust Arrived
Hi all Canucks!!! I just signed up on this site its awesome. I will be applying for the K1 visa shortly. My beloved lives in the USA. The info on here is amazing you really don't need a lawyer at all. I was concerned about the process as I was previously married, divorced Jan 1 2008, but it seems this is not really an concern with the process as long as you have all the documentation to prove the divorce is final and I do.

thanks, Cassie, I am from Nova Scotia too. My US home is gonna be boston.

CanadaVisting during VisaProcess for Dual Citizens
Hi All, I have dual citizenship, I have a canadian passport and a british passport. I mostly travel on my Canadian passport as it seems to be less hassle at the pre-clearance customs. My question is.... While I am in the K1 process and I travel back and fourth to visit my fiance, if I use my british passport will they still know that I am applying for a visa. Its no big deal to me as I have enough evidence to show my ties to Canada, lease agreements, letter from my employer etc and I know the border agents at the airport from flying back and fourth every 2 weeks, but I was curious if it would show up on their system.
