CanadaAnd Now a Word From The Consulate General In Montreal
QUOTE (emt103c @ Oct 10 2007, 05:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If they don't even reply to Senators....

Has anyone had any success with writing the ACTUAL consul general as someone suggested??

Last time I checked the Consul General for the U.S. Consulate in Montreal is a MS. Mary Marshall. I'm sure she'll get any mail addressed to her

CanadaI-693A
QUOTE (Nini & Bee @ Oct 30 2007, 02:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Okay, so today I call the nearest civil surgeon by our house so that I can get my vaccination supplement transferred for AOS.

I kid you not, this is the exact conversation I had with the lady:

"Hi, I understand that Dr. Stadlen is a civil surgeon for USCIS and I can transfer my vaccinations over for adjusting status?"

"Yes, you mean for the I-693A? Well, we can get you in on November 26th for an appointment. But you'll need to come back in for the tuberculosis test since the doctors aren't in on those days."

"...um, tuberculosis test?"

"Yes, it's part of the medical exam that you'll need to adjust status."

"Well, I'm exempt from a medical because I've already been asked to have one this year."

"By who?"

"USCIS asked me to have a medical exam before I immigrated here. They'll have records of it."

"Do you yourself have any records?"

"...um, excuse me?"

"Do you have any records of taking this medical?"

"No, but USCIS does."

"Well, we don't know that you've had this medical, so we'll need to give you one."

"...but I just need the vaccination supplement. I don't need another medical, I've already had one this year, it says on the instructions that I'm exempt from having another one. I have the x-ray from that medical exam..."

"Where did you have your medical done? Here?"

"No, overseas in Canada."

"Do you have records of taking this medical?"

"No, but USCIS knows I've taken the medical."

"Well, you have to prove that you've taken this medical before we can exempt you from it."

"...you know, I'll call you back."

ARGH. I am not shelling out a gazillion dollars for another exam. sleep.gif

I have the vaccination worksheet that the panel physician gave to me in Vancouver - but as far as I know, I need to have that copied over to an I-693A before I can mail in my AOS papers. I'm guessing that either I'm going to call every single civil surgeon in the general area, or I'm SOL and biting the bullet. I'm quite frustrated, to say the least.

I know exactly how you feel. Go to page 53 in the topics scroll down and read mine tilted $176 Later. There were only 2 Civil Surgeons here in Spokane. One refused to even deal with the 692A said rthey did medicals only. The other well that was an experience. Bunch of rip off artists in my opinion

Will they let table wine, honey and jam as a Xmas present go through Customs?

Table Wine: Not sure what you mean by table wine but anything that has alcohol in it can not be sent. Any alcoholic beverages or tobacco products can not be imported into Canada as a gift.
Honey and jam are fine as long as it doesn't exceed 20kg.

Thanks for the info Neiks. It would be a dinner wine it does have a 7% alcohol content. Will it be sent back to me or will they garbage it if I send it.

CanadaShipping holiday gifts to Canada
We mailed all our Xmas gifts 2 days ago with USPS. It cost $160.00 to send 13 large envelopes (10 1/2" x 15") with the items in them. The heaviest envelope was a bit over 3 lbs. and cost $8.56 to mail. All items were declared at $20 on the Customs form although some were much more . We hoping they don't open the more costly ones lol lol
Next yr. we plan on sending gift certificates as $160 was enough to buy a pile of presents

Canada(S)he's sooooo Canadian. :P
I get a good chuckle out of the fact that 2 inches of snow is such a big deal here and 26 degrees is drastic The weather forecast called it an intense winter storm and were warning of severe weather conditions. Everybody is just creeping along with thier studded tires on.
We had a couple inches of snow overnite on Sat and today the newspaper states there were 56 accidents in Spokane County because of the heavy snowfall overnite.
I was telling Lorry about how common getting as much as 20 inches of snow in a single storm back in N.S. is and the -20 temps that Jan and Feb bring. What is winter here is a very nice break to what Iwas accustomed to and very enjoyable.

CanadaWhat are you guys doing for American income taxes?
When we file tax forms this yr. can Lorry claim me on her U.S. tax forms.and since I lived in Canad for 6 months last yr. and was married before the end of 2007 am I entitled to claim Lorry as my spouse on my Canadian tax return.
I think this is going to be a royal pain filing this yr.
AllieNot TellingCanada2007-12-11 19:07:00
CanadaWhat are you guys doing for American income taxes?
Doesn't Canada and the U.S have a tax treaty where double taxing won't happen. I collect a pension from where I worked in Canda.
It's taxed in Canda each month and I believe I read somewhere that pesion income along with EI payments in Canada are exempt from being taxed in the U.S again
