I am new to this site and have some questions...Please I appreciate any feedback

My finance is from the US and I am from Canada....we are thinking about getting married in September in the US....

Can I stay in the US for a few months after we get married or do I have to come back to Canada immediately? How long can I stay in the US legally??

Can we immediately apply for K-3 visa regardless if I am in Canada or the US once we married?

thanks again for the feedback and aswers

Bump.... You can stay in the US legally for 6 months, then you have to return to Canada to avoid an overstay.

Thanks for that info...hoping someone else got something to offer as advice

CanadaI married a Canadian woman
I have a question, first some background, My fiance came here a few weeks ago and we got married, we are filling out the paper work ( for the I130)and am wondering about the I-130. On the bottom right it asks if your relative, ie spouse is currently in the us. It goes on to ask for the I94or I95 form. My wife never received a form when she came across the border from canada. Do we need to worry about this? She is staying for a 6 months and is going back to wait for the iterview and medical. I want this process to go smoothly and want to prevent any delays.

CanadaAdvice needed fast....AOS question

Good point (and yes, the lawyer makes the same point too) I think I chose to overlook that important point - that the OP did not have intent to immigrate on this trip - and that is key.

Apologies to the OP, I didn't think this one through.

You don't need law school :hehe:

Okay I feel like I am back to square one...what to do?? I didn't know about the AOS before filing the I-130....Again my question would be if I could actually file the AOS where we have already filed the I-130????

Thanks so much....no confusion anymore....CR1 it is, thanks again for everything. Back to Canada I go in less than 90 days.

CanadaAdvice needed fast....AOS question

Well he has already stated that he did not intend to stay there when he arrived, he did intend to get married then return to Canada.- which has nothing to do with immigration intent. Got married now wants to stay there.

But still doesn't have an answer to whether or not he can still file an AOS, even though he has already filed the I-130.

Here is, what I see, as the tricky part of your situation OP.

If you had no intent to move to the U.S., but you did intend to get married, where exactly were you going to live, you haven't answered that.

You say:

...Yes I came as a visitor, knew we were gonna marry but I was gonna return to Canada after three weeks

Then what?

We were gonna apply for the CR1 after I went back to Canada, my flight was actually cancelled the day I was scheduled to go back and decided to stay for six months which I thought was all legal. But now I am wondering if I can actually stay without having to go back that's why I was wondering if I could still possibly apply of AOS??? Appreciate all your help so much
Craig-n-JacquieFemaleCanada2010-01-05 16:45:00
CanadaAdvice needed fast....AOS question

It's really up to your own discretion. Did you have intent or not? That's not something we can decide for you or advise about. If you did (which you said you did), then you need to realize that if you get denied doing AOS, you have no other options. It's a risk you would have to take if you think you can prove you had no intent to get married.

This is all very confusing to me....some say it's illegal to have intent to come to the US and get married and some say it's not????????????????? I just feel more and more confused about the whole situation all the time...maybe it's just me, I will have to go back and read again maybe I am reading it wrong.

Confused and more confused

I am just taking a look at the G325A form, I have a question. The 5th line down it asks Form Husbands or wives name. In the next box it has first name, but where would I put his last name? Stupid question but I don't want to assume with the VSC!!!

Thanks

I just found it thankyou so much. Another question. it indicates to put the date of marriage and the place and country, I can't fit it all in on one line, any suggestions. I see you will be moving to Mass, I will be too, I just love it there. It reminds me alot of home here, I am only 50 mins away by plane so very lucky.

CanadaEI Benefits
Well I have been looking this afternoon on the HRDC website with regards to the EI benefits. I can not find anything should you move to another country to marry. I earn over $50,000 a year and have worked at the same job for 6 years and have never applied for EI before in my life. I am wondering if anyone knows if we would receive the same amount as we would if we lost our job due to downsizing for example. The maximum benefit you can earn is 55% of $ 41,000 per annum to a weekly benefit of $435, so If i lost my job today I would qualify for that amount wondering if it would be same amount if I moved? Anybody going thru this. I tried to call HRDC but i was on hold forever!!!

It does help to know what visa you're applying for, and to have your timeline filled in. Just a few pieces of information however my point you in the right direction.

Here is a list of vaccinations by age: http://panelphysicia...munizations.htm

You may be told that a beneficiary from Canada doesn't have to have their vaccinations before leaving Canada. Technically that's true, however almost all Canadians have it done in Canada because they can usually have it done for free before we leave, rather than paying someone to have it done before applying for AOS once in the US.

Your other question was about lost or unobtainable vaccination records. You can have a titre test done in Canada that will show your immunity to certain diseases so that you only get vaccinated for what you haven't had.

I am no where near the AOS journey yet but I like to have everything in order way ahead of the game (maybe a little OCD!!!) I am a little confused on the whole I693 AOS process. I understand that i can get my titres done by my family physician here and take that to my medical with me. When I come to adjust my status and its within a year from when I had my medical do i still have to have a civil surgeon complete the supplement form for me or can I just send a copy of what I received at my medical.

Canadavaccination records
Hi, I was born in England and moved to canada 18 years ago. Of course I don't have any of my medical records for my vaccinations polio etc. I am pretty sure I need these during this process. Does anyone have any idea what you should do if you can't retrieve your vaccination records? Does anyone know what vaccines are required by the beneficiary?

I will be going through Halifax for my POE (when the time arrives) as well. I've flown out of Halifax for all my trips down though, and I can honestly say I've only ever had one lad that was iffy with my responses. I gave him a few more details about my visit and he was satisfied. They are all very good there, I hope you get the older gentleman I had twice - Nicest man you will ever meet smile.gif Asked me about my fiance and what my favorite things to do when we were together. He said he can just imagine how lovely a wedding we will have once we get our paperwork <3

I don't think you have any reason to be worried. Give them your answer and look them in the eyes, and they generally are quite happy to stamp you and send you along smile.gif

Okay, well... I warned you, so don't blame me if you (or anyone else) finds this question inappropriate or whatever. whistling.gif

I was wondering what men (or women, I suppose) do in Canada at a strip club when it comes to tips. I realize the basic premise is the same as in the United States, but when a stripper is dancing on stage (and I'll use female strippers as the example, since they're more common and they're the only type I've seen), men will go up to her and put $1 bills in her panties or she'll use... um... her various "talents" to grab the dollar.

Now I'm asking this because in Canada, there is no such thing as a $1 paper bill. You have a $1 coin. So what do guys do? Toss Loonies at her? I can't imagine that'd end well. Sure, it might be somewhat amusing to see a stripper have to dodge an assault of coinage, but in the end, she might get whacked in the head, or worse yet, accidentally slip on a coin and fall. Since a lot of strippers wear those ridiculously high-heeled shoes, I can't see her balance being all that great to begin with. tongue.gif

Just for the record, I have absolutely no plans of attending any strip clubs, either in Canada or the United States. The last time I was at a strip club was actually before I ever met my fiancee. I tend to find them somewhat boring and something of a tease. Besides, the last few I went to, it looked like some of the ladies were a bit drugged out. I don't really blame them (not that I'm endorsing drug use), but if I were a woman and I was dancing and showing off my naked body for strange men, day in and day out, I'd probably want to be "numb" too.

Anyway... this thought just popped into my head. Maybe someone here knows the answer? unsure.gif

If you put enough dollars coins in her g-string it might just fall down. tongue.gif

*genuflecting like crazy and trying hard not to think impure thoughts*

Seriously though, $1? C'mon now, the minimum is at least $5. Not that I would know anything about it. innocent.gif

In order for me to get my drivers license here in WA. I have to go through the whole routinre written test then road test. They only exchange your license if from another stae. Thier site even mentions that licensed drivers from Canada wanting to get a WA license must also take the road test

QUOTE (Mephys @ Oct 12 2007, 08:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I don't know how your bank works, but if you are planning on getting employment insurance (EI) I would suggest you keep your canadian account for direct deposit.

That's what I did, and it cost me like 1.20$ right now to withdraw amounts like 200-300$ and I withdraw the money with my canadian account debit card with no problems here with american banks.

I dunno how others do it, but I found it pretty easy to do it that way good.gif

What Mephys suggests is a good idea. My first EI payment was a cheque because I figured a Gov. cheque shouldn't cause a problem getting cashed. Was I wrong! The banks here wouldn't touch it. I then set up direct deposit with the EI online in my bank in Canda and no problems since doing so.
As for the cheque I had to send it to Canada and get it deposited in my bank

CanadaMedical Question
I had to have another X-ray plus a medical clearance from my family doctor. When I went for my Visa medical I at that time had a chest cold. My first X-ray showed a small touch of pleurasy in the base of the left lung
Dr. Doane called me 2 days later telling me that the cold I had appears to be a touch of pluerasy and he couldn't release that X-ray as a clear medical. He had me see my family Dr. and schedule another X-ray 2 weeks later. My Dr. treated me for 3 weeks to clear the pleurasy I had the X-ray again all came out clear and he forwarded the X-ray and his diagnosis to Dr. Doane
My medical was then all approved without any problems

See the problem is, we can't be flexible with dates for her flight or time!
becuz she's an unaccompanied minor, she can't fly on the last flight going to SLC or from.
She also has to fly non stop.
We always used to fly out of Seattle with Southwest Airlines . It was always way cheaper then delta. but, my ex won't drive her to seattle to get on a cheaper flight.
I did find a flight from bellingham which isn't too far from my ex's place but the flight leaves at 6am. He'll have a fit if he has to be at the airport at that time in the morning! Plus the return flight might be the last flight of the day. It doesn't say on the website.
Usually if you try to book a flight online thats not on an actual airline website (expedia) It will ask the age of the child. If you just click on child and not adult, it won't allow you to buy the ticket. Red lettering will come up that says you must purchase an adult fare with the child. It won't let you buy just 1 child fare.

If the return flight out of bellingham isn't the last flight and she can use this flight I'll probably buy it. I'll offer to pay for a hotel for my ex & my daughter so that they can drive to Bellingham the day before so that my ex won't complain about driving all the way to bellingham for a 6am flight. ( I can be sure he'll complain cuz thats what he does. He loves to make my life miserable!)

Look into prices with United Airlines. Anytime I flew from Nova Scotia to Spokane United was always the cheapest flight

Last week I was informed the I-131 was approved. To-day I get an approval document in the mail but it's titled I-512L Authorization for Parole of an Alien into the United States. It states I can travel while AOS is ongoing but is this the proper paper to do so
Is this the so called I-131 Advance Parole Document I need or is there a screw up with this being I-512L. I can't even find this document number listed in the USCIS forms section.
Any info would be appreciated as I'm now second guessing Immigration staff once again.

Did you file before or after they were rolled into one? Since we live right on the border, people back in Canada have been wondering how long AP takes to get, so we can visit back there, and I don't have an answer for them, other than "up to three months."

I filed July 26 before the fee increases. It took just over 3 months for the Advance Parole approval.
