CanadaMTL Timeline to Interview
I called Montreal yesterday. I was told I was entered into thier system on Jan 25.
I asked would it be possible to get atleast some sort of time frame when my interview would be so I could make arrangements for travel

She told me " you are on the interview waiting list and could be scheduled 4 to 5 months from the 25 of Jan. We will notify you by mail for your scheduled appointment"

So the wait continues

CanadaHow would Oregon Unemployment know I was in Canada?
9 yrs. ago I got caught by Unemployment Canada for the exact same thing you refer to. I was playing in the World Series FastPitch in Kansas. My wife was calling in my reports from Canada by phone.
I received a disqualification for 2 weeks on my claim a month after I returned to Canada. When I met with one of thier Agents I was told I was out of the Country for those 2 weeks and not available for work as my report stated. He told me names come up through the computer system at crossings
I had to repay the 2 weeks they paid me and they could have fined me for making a false report he said

Hey all -

Been married now for just over a week (Laura - we got hitched the day right after you and Nick!)

It's been great, but I'm a bit concerned about my wonderful husband - he's rather frustrated with the lack of things he can legally do! I work 12-hr night shifts, so there's very little for him to do while I'm at work, and not much to do during the day while I'm sleeping. We spend a lot of time together on my days off, but sadly there's not much to do in Lexington, Kentucky. wacko.gif

He enjoys shooting sports, but of course the ATF wouldn't let him being his guns over (They are vitange WW1 Canadian Army weapons...anyone else run into a similar problem?). He also likes golf, but has no friends around here to play with. Since I'm the only one who can work, we hate to spend a lot of money, but I also don't want him to have to sit around the apartment with nothing to do - espcially since we haven't yet filed for AOS! *groan*

Any of you in similar situations find ways to keep your SO occupied?? Help please!!

protest6wz.gif

I brought 2 rifles with me, although not WW1. I filled out all the paperwork required and after about 3 months and several phone calls to ATFE was approved to take em with me. No problem having the guns at all at my POE they just checked the paperwork and the serial #'s on the firearms and sent me on my way.
I believe he can get his guns sent by a registered firearms dealer. I recall seeing a spot on the forms for getting em sent through gun dealers

Thought someone stated they sold them at the consualte. if not I'm sure after his interview he can go and get one.

Im sure u can find a canada post close to the consulate or his hotel http://www.canadapost.ca/

embassy addy is

1155 rue St-Alexandré
Montréal, Québec
H3B 1Z1

The website says they do not sell them there. We're wondering where the closest postal service is to the office. We used the website, but not very familiar with the area. It looks like COMPLEXE DESJARDIN is the closest. We're afraid he won't have enough time before the interview and wonder how diccult it may make things if he waited till after the interview.

Desjardin Complex is about 2 or 3 blocks down from the Consulate. Exiting the Consulate turn left on Rene' Lesveque Blvd. go down over the small hill Desjardin Place is on the left as you walk the 3 blocks. There's a shopping mall inside there

I don't know whether they give the Employment stamp now, but they did when I went through Halifax in June of 07. No harm in asking for it. Good luck

I've found only a handful of VJ members that either lived or still live in Nova Scotia. I will be the first to write a P.O.E. review for Halifax I suppose smile.gif

I figure I'll just tell them I'm visiting my fiance and if he pushes for any more information, I'll tell him. The previous 4 visits have all been "have a nice day" type
of greetings from CBP. The USCIS people are little more curious when US citizens are returning, but its their job. Techniccaly speaking, the first bit of American
soil we land on will be Boston, then Atlanta, and finally West Palm Beach around midnight.

Post-checkpoint areas are still within the "rules and laws" of the governing country, not the sovereign nation represented right?

Halifax is a very easy POE. My first few visits here to WA. were through Toronto as Halifax at that time was not a U.S POE.
The 3 trips through TO were with very cranky border officers. I know they have a job to do and TO is a very busy entry point but atleast show a bit of personality.

It was with out doubt a pleasure when I entered through Halifax. The agents were very pleasant and even said enjoy your visit much different to what I had experienced in TO.

I activated my K1 Visa through Halifax in June of 07 and at that time they hadn't done many K1's through there as they were only certified as U.S POE in Jan of that yr. but I had no problems at all They were very nice and although did thier job also chatted outside the everyday procedures they do.

My review on Halifax is in my timeline. Good luck and I know you'll have a pleasant POE at Halifax.
Ask for the Employment stamp they gave me mine no problem what so ever

CanadaOrdering a gift from the USA and having it delivered to Canada...
I think the gift has to be above a certain amount before they tack on duty and taxes. We sent all my children and Grandchildren gifts last Xmas and there were no additional charges from Customs. We stuck a $20.00 value figure on the items although several were a bit more
They were sent USPS, all we did was fill out the Customs form telling it's value and what it was and the Post Office stuck it on the package.
I do know that sometimes items shipped with UPS delivery end up with extra charges on the receiving end I've had that experience.

KEITHS! ( can you tell I'm a Nova Scotian)biggrin.gif I'm so upset that I won't be able to get it at all in NC...hell, it's considered "imported" in Montreal!
My first beers were Alpine...I know, 'Moose piss"...but it has to be New Brunswick Alpine...Dartmouth brewed tastes different.

I love Rickards (Red and White preferably), Guiness, Stella, Corona...
Bo's gonna get me to try 'Blue Moon'...It's a pale ale, served with an orange wedge, brewed in Raleigh....

I just adore beer. Don't ever ask me to drink a Blue though....Not even happening.

<3 Jen

I hear ya. I loved Keith's beer, all I ever drank in N.S. When I got here I tried many different brands searching for something close to my beloved Keith's.
After many variety packs, Lorry's daughter introduced me to Killians Irish Red. It's very similar to Keiths in body and taste. Very nice beer, give it a try if you can get it in N.C. I think you'll enjoy it

I have a question... I use Skype to call my fiance in Canada, but I want to find some way to have unlimited minutes to call him on my cell phone.

I have Cintular, and I'm willing to pay a monthly fee.. but I don't know if this is possible. I don't want to pay the 19 cents a minute bull-sh*t.

Does anyone have this with their cell phone provider?

Thank you

CanadaAdvice Needed-Got a New Pup...
We bought a Min Pin last April. She kept us up the first 3 nights we had her from 8 till 1 with steady whimpering and howling.
We didn't know what we were going to do she just wouldn't stop. I put a clock in under her blankets, along with a heating pad and left a radio on low so she wouldn't feel alone and the 4th night she wasn't as bad.
She only cried when we put her to bed for about an hr. Each night after that got better and after about a week she was okay.
I know the crying and howling is nerve wracking but hang in there and try to block it out and eventually you'll have a nice dog. Once she gets accustomed to the place she'll stop the sooking

A good move by my B's . Recchi comes to play every game and is what we need for our run for the Cup.
He's a seasoned player and will be great leadership for the younger guys in the playoffs. I like this deal a lot

I thought for sure the B's would be looking to deal Manny Fernandez.

My dad is so stupid sometimes!

our kitchen sink is clogged and so last night I went and got which specifically says do NOT put more than a tablespoon per application and do a max of two applications in total.
So I did that last night (two applications) cuz it wouldn't budge

well, I go down this morning to see if I can play with it some more and find that my Drano can is EMPTY!!!

My dad put the WHOLE CAN DOWN THE SINK so now, not only is there whatever was clogging it in the first place, there's WHOLE CAN of drano adding to the clog

Ok I have this problem too Liz. My sink has been clogged for months in the bathroom. I have even taken an old toothbrush of my son's(cause its tiny) and triedshoving it down there to get whatever it is out. Well it dont work, so don't ever anyone try this. I didnt get it stuck there. I haven tried all kinda of drain cleaners and nothing works. Anyone know of anything else? I bought 1 of those toilet snake thingys, but its a bathroom sink thats clogged and the snake doesnt fit down there.

Mary

Try filling the sink and then using the plunger on the drain hole. Sometimes the back pressure is enough to loosen whatever is there

CanadaPositive TP test, negative X-Ray, anti-biotic for 6 months.
Maybe this will help you. When I had to get a Civil Surgeon to sign my medical I had in Canada She wouldn't sign until I had a TB test. I explained that my X-ray from my medical did not show TB and all was well with my lungs.
After much discussion and an argument I knew I couldn't win, I ended up getting the test.

The Dr. doing the TB test asked why I was getting it and when I explained why she asked if I had been vaccinated when I was a kid. When I said yes she told me there would be a very good chance this test will show positive for TB which it did
I then had to go pay for an X-ray to prove I didn't have TB. This X-ray showed exactly the same as my original X-ray from Canada had shown, all was well with my pretty pink lungs.

So I ended up paying for a TB test and an X-ray to get a Civil Surgeon's signature

CanadaImmigration Notice

I just got the mail and there was a letter from USCIS. It's a notice telling me I have to file
my I -751 with appropriate fees or risk losing my Status in the U.S.
The expiry date on my GC is 02-06-2010. My calculations for 90 days before expiration is Nov 6
of this yr.
Is it safe to wait till Nov. 6 or do I mail now as they state? I thought they didn't send a reminder

I went for 18 yrs. watching hockey in Montreal and always stayed at at La TourCentreville. Also stayed there when I had my interview, never ever found a problem with the place and the staff is very friendly and out going.
There's a nice little cafe to the right at the entrance and they serve a very nice breakfast and have a good supply of cold beer also a restaurant to the left at the entrance.
