I have tried going in online with the case number and it comes back with nothing, just said it's being reviewed. Has been like that since October. Will I get to talk to someone if I called? And would they give me more info?

Yes you can speak with someone when you call. When we had to call I couldn't get through from Canada Lorry had to call them from the US.
That may have changed since then but that's how it was when we had to contact USCIS by phone

There should be a case number on the NOA1 or on the back of the cashed cheque. You should be able to check on your case with this number. I thinkk when we had to inquire on our case the number started with a W

CanadaUrgent help, guys!!!

Just for anyone else reading this, this isn't correct. K-1 is not a 90 day work authorization. You still have to send a copy of the I-94 and the K-1 visa, but you can't get EI with a K-1 until you send them a copy of your EAD.

Yes this is correct the K-1 isn't a 90 day work permit. I said I wasn't positive on that and went and rooted out my paper work from when I got my EI
The reason I thought that is, when I came through Halifax they stamped my EAD on the K-1 and in my Passport.
Sorry if I added confusion to your situation

Not positive as my memory isn't so hot on some things lol but I think when I came here on the K-1 Visa I had to send them a copy of the Visa as it ( the K-1) acted as proof that I was eligible to work here for up to 90 days and also that I had used it to become a resident until I file for my GC
I apologize if this info isn't correct and Im sure someone else will chirp in with an answer for you

CNDgirlMI is correct.
I did the same paperwork where it speaks about an individual ( legal alien importing a firearm to the US. You simply fill out the Application form ATF Form6- Part1 (5330.3A) Application and Permit for Importation of Firearms Ammunition and Implements of War
You do not require the services of a licensed gun dealer nor the services of an importer.

Below is clause 8 which CDNgirlMI refers to. Fill out the application and simply mail it. They'll send you it back with an approval stamp along with the form you fill out to clear US. Customs

DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY
BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND FIREARMS
APPLICATION AND PERMIT FOR IMPORTATION OF FIREARMS,
AMMUNITION AND IMPLEMENTS OF WAR
NOT FOR USE BY MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES
(Submit in triplicate)
INSTRUCTION SHEET FOR ATF F 6 PART I (5330.3A)
(Detach this instruction sheet before submitting your application)

8. A nonresident U.S. citizen returning to the United States or a nonresident
alien immigrating to the United States, from a permanent
residence outside of the United States may complete and forward the
enclosed ATF F 6 Part I permit application without having to utilize the
services of a federally licensed firearms dealer. The nonresident
should include a statement, either on the application form or on an
attached sheet, that the firearms are being imported for his personal
use and not for resale and that he is a nonresident U.S. citizen
returning to the United States, or is a nonresident alien immigrating to
the United States. The firearms must accompany the nonresident on
entry into the United States, since once he is in the United States, and
has acquired residence in a State, he may not directly import a
firearm. If the firearms do not accompany him, either handcarried or in
his baggage (accompanied or unaccompanied), he must engage the
services of a federally licensed firearms dealer in his State of
residence to import the sporting firearms (excluding surplus military)
for him.

Just to refresh:

In my earlier posting on page 1 I gave you an address. That address was for the branch office which handled my application approval.

You must send your completed ATF Form6- Part1 (5330.3A) Application and Permit for Importation of Firearms Ammunition and Implements of War

To this address:

12. The application should be submitted approximately 60 days prior to
the intended importation. All copies shall be submitted to:

Attention: Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch

13. Any questions concerning the application should be referred to the

CanadaImporting your guns when you move?

agreed that importing guns while immigrating is not the same as importing household goods. ATFE has an importation form that can be completed by an individual for their personal collection, but it is wise to involve a liscensed firearms dealer in your destination area in the process. the mechanism of importation is covered in the FEIGB (firearms and explosives identification guide book.

http://www.atf.gov/f...k--complete.pdf

in short, you should, but are not required to, establish residency before importing. you may not bring in anything full auto or non-sporting. ATFE identifies full auto differently than canada does, so certain guns that are considered semi-auto in canada are considered full auto in USA. this is because the modifications made from full auto to semi-auto in canada do not meet ATF's "once a machine gun, always a machine gun" rule.

non-sporting covers a category of modern military types such as semi-auto ak-47, vz58, mg42, etc that are assembled with more than 10 non-USA manufactured parts (from a list of qualifying parts). this can be tricky for someone not in the know (including many FFL dealers).

read the text yourself, but from page 8:
firearms or ammunition may be imported into the United States: if the firearms or ammunition are of a type generally recognized as particularly
suitable for or readily adaptable to "sporting purposes";
Surplus military firearms and other non-sporting firearms qualifying as "curios or
relics" may be imported.
Handguns being imported into the United States must also be recognized as particularly
suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes...

p11:
The importation of firearms, firearm frames and receivers, firearm barrels, and
ammunition is subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C., Chapter 44, the GCA and the
implementing regulations in 27 CFR, Part 478. (this also includes parts such as receivers, barrels)
In order to engage in the business of importing firearms or ammunition for resale, you
must obtain a Federal Firearms License (FFL) as an importer. (but you're not doing this as a business)
An approved import permit on ATF Form 6, Application and Permit for Importation of
Firearms, Ammunition and Implements of War, is required to import these articles into the
United States and allows the importation of the articles listed on the form. A permit is
valid for one year from its approved date.
A Federally licensed firearms dealer, pawnbroker or manufacturer, other than a
manufacturer of ammunition only (Type 06 FFL) may obtain a permit to occasionally
import a firearm for the FFL’s personal use, or for the personal use of a customer (the
customer’s name, address and purpose of importation should be shown in the item
entitled 'Specific Purpose of Importation' on the Form 6 Part I), without becoming
licensed and registered as an importer.
An unlicensed person may obtain a permit to import sporting ammunition (excluding
armor-piercing, tracer, or incendiary ammunition) and firearm parts (other than frames,
receivers, firearm barrels, or barreled actions) without engaging the services of an FFL,
provided the items are for personal use and not for resale. Generally, ATF cannot issue a
permit authorizing the importation of firearms barrels for nonsporting or surplus military
firearms.

see form 4590 on page 14 for handgun considerations. some small handguns are unimportable due to size restrictions, which are often overcome by changing grip panels. some handguns are unimportable due to lack of manual safety.
then there is the list of restricted countries of manufacture, noted on page 15.
the forms you need are on page 21, with some instructions.

p36
A foreign national. An alien entering the U.S. to establish residency may obtain an approved
ATF F 6 (Part I) import permit, prior to the date U.S. residency is established (90 days after his
or her date of arrival in the U.S.) to import sporting firearms, sporting ammunition, and certain
implements of war (e.g., firearm component parts). The items approved for importation must
accompany the alien or be contained in his or her shipment of personal effects. 18 U.S.C. 922
(d)(3).

as you can see, it can get complicated, so i would recommend you engage the services of a competent type 1 or 2 FFl in your destination state.
if you are moving to pennsylvania, that would be me.

I just read all this and it is not as complicated as all these clauses appear If you do everything correctly on the form you in no way require the services of a licensed firearm dealer/importer.
Just fill out the application. If there are problems on your application an ATF Agent will call you informing about any errors you made while applying and help you correct those errors. As I stated in a previous post they are very helpful and easy to deal with.
I know this because I had 2 calls from them to verify exactly what I meant on the application.
AllieNot TellingCanada2010-03-05 12:05:00
CanadaImporting your guns when you move?
I took my 2 rifles with me when I crossed. You do need the required paperwork though. I had no hassle what so ever with ATF I dealt with a Ms. Richardson and she was very nice and very co-operative.
The 2 rifles I took were of great sentimental value and are 2 great hunting rifles. I would have been heart broken to leave them behind.
I sent in my paperwork on Nov. and had my release and Import approval back in Jan.
They do request the application being submitted 60 days before the intended importation.

The address is:
Director
Bureau of Achohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives
244 Needy Road
Martinsburg, wv 25405
Attention: Firearma and Explosives Import Branch

You need to fill out the form:

Application and Permit for Importation of Firearms Ammunition and Implements of War
ATF Form6- Part1 (5330.3A)

When bringing them into the US you must have :

ATF Form 6A(5330.3C) Release and Receipt of Imported Firearms, Ammunition and Implements of War.

You present this filled out form with the Import Permit # on it to US Customs. They check it against the model, serial# and Manufacturer of gun
Make sure you have it all as it appears on the gun. When I took my Tikka across I had written in Tikka on the release form but the gun although being a Tikka is made by Sako and that was what was on the barrel. It took some explaining to do about the difference in names.

If going by plane you'll need the paperwork to show it's okay to take em on. It cost em and extra $50 to put them on the plane. I would make it very visible that it's a fragile package. I took mine in a 2 rifle case and everything arrived as it had left.

If you have further questions or need help in filling the forms don't hesitate to ask me

Completely disagree. Back in the early 90s, if you were under a certain height and weight, no matter HOW good you were..how many goals you scored, etc., you wouldn't have even been looked at. Gretzky was one of the few, small men out there...and his talent was so unreal they couldn't turn him away. My oldest brother never grew past 5'7" and was told he'd never get past midget. Luckly for him, his speed got him to junior and then to semi pro in the US for a few years.

The "New" NHL focuses on speed, agility, mental capacity, etc. Guys like St. Louis and Gaborik would have never crept up into the league if it weren't for the shift on philosophy. Physicality is very important in the game and some people, like Crosby, could use it a bit more. But I'd say that Sid and Ovi are completely different players. Ovi is an amazing 2 way player. Sid is more of a goal scorer and sees the ice just a tad bit better.

That's my problem with the Maple Leafs. They have stood back and watched every team to adapt to the new philosophy but themselves. The day they start getting younger, fresher, more vibrant talent, that's the day they will make the playoffs again.

Completely disagree . Gretzky wasn't so small. He played at 6' and weighed 185 lbs. Gordie Howe was 6" and weighed 205 lbs. There were smaller players in the NHL long before the 90's and the present day
Dave Keon of the Leafs was 5'9" and only weighed 165 lbs he played from 1960 to 82 and hockey was a lot rougher then than it is now.
Another was Johnny MacKenzie of the Bruins he was also 5"9" and weighed only 170lbs. Stan Jonathan 5"8" weighed 175 also played for the Bruins and was their enforcer
Brian Trottier was 5" 11" and 195 lbs.
So all in all the NHL has had it's share of smaller players going back many yrs. and many of them were not prolific goal scorers.

Marian Gaborik is a bit bigger than Martin St. Louis. Gaborik is 6'1" and 200 lbs . While Martin St. Louis is 5'9" and only 177 lbs
Also your star player is not expected to be overly physical. He gets paid the big bucks to put the puck in the net not to be hitting everything in site
They want their stars in the lineup not on the injury list. That's why teams have scores and grinders.

Not sure whether Luongo would hear Kesler's statement until after the game. I would be willing to wager though that while standing near Luongo on play stoppages some players would fire the dig of fighting the puck or having an off day. It's part of the game. I've done it myself to get under someone"s skin and throw them off their game. Some pretty mean things are said to opposition during a game, some hit home some don't just as some players hear everything while otheres just let it go over their heads
AllieNot TellingCanada2010-03-01 12:43:00
CanadaHOOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY

Actually....

In an interview after the game Crosby said that he didn't even look to shoot the puck, he just shot it and it went it.

That's why the great players are so great. they have that 7th sense of no look passes no look goals
AllieNot TellingCanada2010-03-01 12:02:00
CanadaHOOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY

I agree about Kesler. Totally. I have NEVER liked his attitude...and I'm a Canucks fan! I DO think he's a great player though...I just wish the guy would never speak, because he always comes off like a whiny jerk when he does. Talking about Luongo looking like he's "fighting the puck" in the second period intermission was pretty lousy...not only because it's his day-to-day teammate, but because it simply wasn't true! Luongo had let in one goal at that point, and it was a good, hard-fought goal.

If Kesler wasn't so good on the ice, being one of the better two-way players in the game, I'd love to see him traded. But even I have to admit that he has immense value to the Canucks, sooo...I hope he resigns at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Luongo was fighting the puck that whole game. He looked very unsure of himself on many shots there were more than a couple times that he went to glove a puck and it bounced from his glove. Why do you think the US were trying to get as many shots at him as possible? Because they and most everybody else saw that Luongo was having a tough day. Some games it happens to goaltenders where nothing goes the usual way. The goal that tied the game if he had caught and held the puck instead of it bouncing from his glove the game would have ended 2-1.
So I agree with Kesler's evaluation of Luongo at that time

As for Ryan Miller making a mistake on the Crosby goal. Did you ever consider giving credit that maybe Crosby made a great shot and put the puck where the opening was.

Not an overly great period for Canada in the 2nd. We were at times a bit flat footed and standing arond watching the play.

We were a bit tentative that 1 st period. Gotta start being a bit more aggressive on the boards and in the corners but overall we did play an okay preiod of hockey

The announcer is getting to me though with his hockey terminology. When has a body check become a cross body hit and when a blocker save is made it's not a waffle boards it away save. It's a goal stick not a damn waffle board.
Also his assumption that the only differences between Canadian hockey players and US hockey players is a passport is dead wrong.

Although yes they probably were thinking of a Sun. game I don't think they took this game for granted. The Slovaks had quite a few pro players also.
If not for a crossbar in the dying seconds it would have been an OT game. Then it's anyone's game to win..
I would think Canada to be the favorite. The US is not rested by much, not like they won and early series and had 3 or 4 days off waiting for an opponent. Besides these are all pro players whom are accustomed to playing several games without a days rest.
Come Sun. I'm sure both will be ready to go. As for pressure remember Canada is the home team they have that so called 7th player on the ice with them. I can tell you crowd support goes a long way in bringing a team to a high adreneline level.
If we play with the same intensity and own the corners and the board battles as we did against Russia then Canada will be the Gold medal winners.
If we play as flat and sluggish as tonite's game then the US will take Gold
AllieNot TellingCanada2010-02-27 00:22:00
CanadaHOOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY
Tonite Canada played just as I had feared they might after coming off a high energy game against Russia.
We were very flat to-day no speed and hype the team was very sluggish. Not sure what causes this after a huge win but it happens I've been involved in these type games several times.
They should be more energized going into the Gold game and hopefully they'll be a wound up as they were for the Russians.
AllieNot TellingCanada2010-02-27 00:00:00
CanadaHOOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY
The Canadians applied constant pressure, they smothered Russia and pounded them along the boards and in the corners.
It's always the same with most European hockey players when they play Canada. They are always looking over their shoulder waiting for that big hit and slow down when going into the corner on a race for the puck.
The Russians didn't play bad they were simply outplayed in every aspect of the game.

No doubts on who the best team is now.

Sweden still hasn't lost a game, nor has the U.S....

I DO think Canada is the favorite now though...but if Sweden beats Slovakia tonight, we've got a tough game ahead of us on Friday.

Having an undefeated record doesn't mean anything when it comes to one game, it only serves as placement and looks good in the standings.
I've been in several tournaments where we held an undefeated record and in the end came away being the brides maid.
If the Canadians are as intense and hit like they did tonite Sweden will be out too. There is no way from watching all these teams Canada and Russia are a few steps above the US and Sweden. Sweden does have a great team but just not as great a team as the Russians or Canada.

You gave the Russians a 60 - 40 odds Wyatt so I'm hoping your concern on the US and Sweden is as accurate as that prediction.
All kidding aside my biggest concern is usually after a big win like this a team can easily become deflated (been there had it happen) I don't know what causes this but after an intense win sometimes for the next game a team comes out flat with no hype.

The dig (which was very tongue-in-cheek, by the way...) was because you said this (emphasis mine):

That was and still is my view/opinion. I would go to Brodeur in such a big game but I don't make that decision.

I'm a true, loyal Team Canada supporter too...but I, on the other hand, don't see a problem with picking a team apart...it doesn't affect the fact that I want them to win. It's just a sport I love and my love for it isn't blind and purely nationalistic.

Then I am of a different fan loyalty than you. When I as a fan my team whether here in the Olympics or the NHL I never pick my team apart or lay individual blame if we lose.
If every team (and I emphasize team) played the perfect game there would be no winners.
Like you my love for the game is not blind either, but as for being purely all for my Nation of Canada you can mark a big in EVERY WAY beside that one.
Besides Canada there are 2 other great teams here, the Russians and the Swedes and even if my Canadians do happen to lose, in my heart they will always be best hockey players on this planet
and with that said
I AM CANADIAN

Alright! So now that we've got Germany out of the way, the BIG game is nigh -- Russia vs. Canada, 7:30 EST, 4:30 PST. Luongo has already been named as the starter (sorry Allie :P), and this should be one heck of a game... Explosive Russian offense, strong defense and one of the most consistent goaltenders in the game (Nabokov has always been one of my favorites, dating back into the '90's).

I give 60-40 odds to Russia in this one, but I hope I'm wrong!

As for the other games, the U.S. should beat Switzerland (noon PST, btw...), and sadly, Sweden probably has the edge on Slovakia. I really, really want Slovakia to win though. As much as I like Forsberg and (obviously) the Sedins, I still think Slovakia has been criminally underrated.

Should be an exciting, nail-biting night of hockey!

Hey, why the dig at me? I couldn't care if they put the guy selling popcorn in goal as long as we win. I thought they would come back with Brodeur after giving him a splinter seat and that was my view. They feel Luongo can beat the Russians and I'm hoping they are correct.
I'm a true, loyal Team Canada supporter, I do not sit and pick the team apart and find fault in them and post pictures implying them to be a bunch of fools running into each other as some people do

Zoiks...which game were YOU watching? Like I said before, the third goal was a good goal, but the first two should have been routine saves had Brodeur's positioning been solid. It wasn't. You can't give a goaltender a passing grade for missing deflections... Good positioning causes most deflections to bounce of pads or chest. Brodeur looked downright shaky on at least two of the goals. I'd contend that he looked shaky on ALL of them, but so it goes. There is NO WAY we had more hits than the U.S. team. They're aggressive and physical, and that's their greatest strength, other than Miller.

I'm assuming I watched the same Canada/US game that you did. Can't agree with you on your deflection theory. Deflections are one of the most difficult shots on goal for a goaltender to stop. The reaction time is almost impossible sure once in awhile a goalie stops a deflection but the majority of deflection end up over the net or in the net.
When a goaltender makes a move to where a shot is headed then all of a sudden it changes direction he/she is pretty well handcuffed.
As for the US being physical and aggressive, no way the US has been rated and scouted as a fast skating team not aggressive and physical.

This is from TSN write up:

Physically, they punished the U.S. team, with Rick Nash leading the way in dishing out major open-ice hits.

That's a very unfair comment.

I go back to your opening statement " which game were you watching" Canada dominated and there were times where the US couldn't get the puck away from the men. The US reminded me of kids chasing grown ups for the puck scrambling all over the ice.

Not if you have a hot goalie yourself...

There are games where one goaltender tends to as we say " stand on his head" and this was one of those games. Even with the goals the US. scored if not for a hot goaltender Canada could have easily had a blow out game.

Martin Brodeur has been one of the best goaltenders in the world (I would say one of the five best...). But he's not anymore. If you want to go by stats, take a look at current NHL leaders. Miller has a .930 save percentage, 2.16 GAA and 30 wins while playing in front of a decidedly mediocre team (Tim Connolly is their leading scorer with 55 points...Tim Connolly!). Evgeni Nabokov has .928 sv%, 2.26 GAA, 34 wins and plays on an offense-minded team. Bryzgalov... .920, 2.30, 32 wins on the Phoenix Coyotes of all teams...predicted at the beginning of the year to be last place in the conference. Kiprusoff -- .925, 2.18, 27 wins on a team that can't score. Brodeur, meanwhile, is at .915, 2.32 with 34 wins...good numbers, sure, but he plays for one of the most defensively sound teams in the league. The .915 is a bit worrisome there. Good numbers...but not great. Indeed, if you're one of those people (like I am) who believe that save percentage is the key goaltending statistic, his CAREER save percentage sits EIGHTH out of goaltenders currently in the league, and ninth all-time. Know which goaltender has the BEST save percentage out of all active goaltenders? Roberto Luongo.

My opinion Brodeur still is #1 in the world. You give stats so I'll give some too

Brodeur has played 6 more games (58 verses 52 Miller) has 7 shutouts and 34 wins.
Although Brodeur has 130 goals against to Miller's 111 keep in mind he played 6 more games

Can't see why you figure Miller plays with a mediocre team.
Kolvachuck leads New Jersey with 63 pts but most of those were with Atlanta so let's say Parise leads the team with 61pts. Not much in difference between he and Connelly with his 55pts.
New Jersey has 77 pts Buffalo 75 pts.
New Jersey has scored 162 goals where as Buffalo has scored 166 goals
New Jersey has given up 144 goals where as Buffalo has given up 152 goals.
New Jersey has scored 166 goals over all while Buffalo has 162 over all

If one goes by stats then they're pretty well even. Stat don't win games a quality team wins games.

I love Canada. I love Canadian hockey. Truly. I'll be whooping it up and bouncing on my couch if Canada wins Gold in men's hockey. But when you look at the rosters of the other quality teams out there, and more importantly, see how they've been playing...well, thinking that Canada is a "sure thing" for Gold is naively optimistic. They DO have a chance, but it's going to take a lot of effort...and much better goaltending than Brodeur can provide.

I will agree with you on yes Canada as a whole team hasn't played to their potential. Brodeur aside do you think with all the offensive firepower Canada has goaltending should even be a issue? I mean come on with our line up other than Russia who matches it..
All I can say and I fully believe this " when it come crunch time don't worry Brodeur and the rest of Team Canada will be there.

This was a statement game. This game was as hyped up as any Stanley Cup final or Gold medal game would have been. EVERYone was watching. The pressure to win this one was immense. And Brodeur couldn't handle the pressure. A couple of our defensemen (Pronger especially) didn't fare well either...but if Brodeur is a world class goaltender, this was the kind of game he NEEDED to win. Canada's offense was powerful, and managed to get three goals on a goalie who otherwise had an outstanding performance. There's really no excuse for Brodeur.

You're actually going to state that Martin Brodeur with all his experience in huge games couldn't handle pressure. He like the rest of his teamates in this tournament are proffessionals and have been in many pressure situations, so pressure is secondary to them.
How did he look under pressure in the shoot out, handled that pretty well didn't he? Although we lost Brodeur is a world class goaltender
Then you agree Miller played above himself. Once again the hot goaltender theory. Without him Canada would have had a blow out even with 4 goals against..

I was never ON a bandwagon. I've stated quite frequently (several times on this board, and several times off it) that I don't think the roster of Team Canada is great. I think it's a GOOD team...but there are six other teams, in my opinion, that have a legitimate shot at Gold too: Czech, Russia, U.S.A., Sweden, Finland and even Slovakia. And most of those teams now have one less game to play than Canada... Do I hope that Canada turns it around and wins Gold? Of course! Do I think that's possible with Brodeur in net? Nope.

I'm on Canada's bandwagon and win or lose will continue to ride that bandwagon. When my team loses then I lose with them not pick them apart and lay blame. I'll support them when they lose and when they win.
I think we have a great roster and other than Canada getting Gold the only other possible Gold teams I see are Russia and Sweden.

And J&K's breakdown of each goal is impeccable. I saw them the EXACT same way. Perfectly described, K.!

Finally...was Kesler's empty netter not the best empty net goal anyone has ever seen? Wow...

CanadaHOOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY

I can't watch really highly important games...I get too mad, or too nervous, so I only saw a couple of goals.

Being a goalie for 22 years, I can tell you, Brodeur did NOT play well at all. He is a very good goalie, but the game has change, and he has not (his style...he remains to be a hybrid goalie whereas, the majority of goaltenders in the game today are butterfly style)

I'm going to try and break the goals down and let you know what he did wrong, and how, even though a couple were deflections, he could have had a chance to make the save.

Goal 1: Shot came from the point, and was deflected past Brodeur's blocker side. Brodeur went down, but only put out his left leg initially, causing him not to be able to react quickly enough when the puck was deflected. In fact, he didn't even move his right leg to try and make the save. Had he gone down in the butterfly to protect the entire net, rather than trying to just make the save on the shot, he might have had a chance to stop the deflection, as his reaction time would have been cut shorter, by his body and leg already being in position.

Goal 2: Brodeur should NOT have batted the puck out of mid air. That was Brodeur being Brodeur and having to go out and play the puck. Now, I'm all for goalies playing the puck (I'm one of them) but you hve to know when to play the puck, or stay in your net. He should have stayed in his net. He made the worst choice in where he ended up putting the puck. He put it in what I call the 'Dead Zone" right up the middle. So, it goes up the middle, and while the US pointman gets the puck, Brodeur is scrambling to get back in net to get in position, and ends up looking like Hasek in that he doesn't even have proper positioning as a Hybrid goalie! Why the heck did he go down like that???? He's an NHL goalie who's probably made that same countless times. If had had gone down into a butterfly, or even semi-butterfly, even with the deflection, he would have made that save because the puck stayed on the ice. Pads on the ice would have stopped it.
Who's at Fault for that goal? Brodeur. If he had let his defense just go and get the puck in the corner, we may have never had the puck up the middle, in fact, it probably would have stayed up along the boards.

Game should have been 1-0 Canada at the end of the first period.

Goal 3: Again, didn't stay in his net! Tried to pokecheck the puck and failed. As a goalie, you need to be 100% sure that you are not going to mess up with the pokecheck, because you are completely vulnerable. He missed and the US player passed it to his man who had a wide open net because Brodeur, once again was way out of position.

Should have been 2-0 Canada at this point.

Goal 4: Good power play goal. Had movement on the ice, good one-timer from the halfboards. If I were going to blame anyone, it would be whomever was in the box!

Should have been 3-1 (After Canada scored) at this point.

Goal 5: Obviously an empty net.

Reasons why we lost that game? Goaltending on both ends. Brodeur did not play well, and Miller did. Simple as that. Had Brodeur made the saves he was supposed to, and not put himself out of position (and as a goalie, that's WHAT A GOALIE'S JOB IS, to be IN POSITION) even with Miller's stellar performance, we should have won that game.

/stepping out of my crease now :D

Being a goaltender for 22 yrs. then you should know when you start to make a move one way and a puck is deflected it's not so easy to recover and make a move in the opposite direction.
You point out that Martin Brodeur is not a butterfly type goaltender which I agree he isn't. Why would he want to change his style, his resume would point out his style is working just fine. Do you think Ryan Miller's style is all butterfly?
How did Brodeur look in the shoot out game in a pressure situation? Looked pretty darn good to me.
The goal scored on the puck he batted didn't go up the middle it went close to the left point and if a Canadian player had gotten that puck we would have had a breakaway as the US were penetrating the Canadian zone on the shoot in.

Hockey is a team game and no one player loses the game. You win as a team, you lose as a team. I played and coached in semi pro sport for over 30 yrs. and we as players and coaches do not point blame or single players out why we lose. We all learn to lose before we learn to win.

When the medal round starts I assure you Brodeur will be in goal for Canada and he should be. We have the best goaltender and team in the world and when the cards are on the table Brodeur and our Canadian team will be there when it counts.

CanadaHOOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY

I completely disagree.

The first two goals he let in were pretty horrible. The third one was marginal. The fourth was a good goal, plain and simple. I'll be nice and won't even blame him for the fifth!

Brodeur let in 4 goals on 22 shots. That's inexcusable in the NHL, let alone on the world stage in such a statement game.

Brodeur didn't lose the game for Canada. The first 2 goals were deflected the 3rd on a crowd in front of the net. Canada out shot the US 44 to 22. We doninated the play and had a lot more hits and scoring chances than the US. At times it looked like men playing a kids team.
I know the score board is what counts in the end but when a team runs into a hot goalie this is what usually happens.

Martin Brodeur is the best goaltender in the world, has proven his worth many times and has the stats to back it all up. Luongo may start against Germany but when it comes to playing Russia after Germany Marty Brodeur will be back in goal for Canada and will be there when we play for the Gold medal too.
Yeah this was a big game in standing order but they didn't hand out the medals yet and that's when it all counts when the cards are on the table.

Don't jump off the Canadian band wagon there's plenty of hockey to go. Canada is still the best team in the torunament and Marty Brodeur the best goaltender.

Below is a quote from Ron Wilson.

Even the U.S. coach Ron Wilson acknowledged afterwards how well his goaltender played - and much of a difference he made to the outcome.

"In fairness, Canada out-chanced us two-to-one for most of the game and our goalie played excellent," said Wilson. "We've still got a long ways to go here. There are some great teams out there. Personally, I think Canada is the best team - and Russia is right behind them with all the skill they have up front."

CanadaAdvice needed fast....AOS question

Hi Craig-n-Jacquie,

Yes, VISITOR to AOS is perfectly LEGAL to do! (lol...I for one have done such...see my vj timeline...)

No, it's not illegal that you came to the US and get married while you were down here for a visit.
AS LONG AS YOU CAME HERE WITHOUT PRIOR INENTION TO IMMIGRATE ON YOUR VISIT and not do this as to avoid and/or break immigration laws, then it's fine and legal to do such.

I was in the same situation before too, as I came over to visit my boyfriend (now husband), on a tourist visa (which are rare for Canadians, as Canadians generally don't need visas to visit the USA) from Canada for 2 weeks, and then ended up getting married here in the USA, and overstayed (for 8 months until my AOS was finally approved), and then filed the paperwork with immigration. And yes, I did get approved and got my green card afterwards. For more information on my sitation, see my VJ timeline (the link can be found on my signature).

The next steps for you (WITHOUT PRIOR INTENTION) are:
1) DO NOT LEAVE THE USA AND DO NOT RETURN TO CANADA until your case has been fully approved, otherwise your case will be abandonded and you will run into the risk of never being able to come back to the ever USA again.
2) File the following paperwork: I-130 (Petiton for Family Member), I-485 (Adjustment of Status), I-864 (Affidavit of Support), I-765 and I-131 (Employment Authorization and Advanced Parole), and the I-693 (medical forms).
3) Hire a good immigration lawyer, if you run into any more problems, and/or if you are totally unsure about your situation.

In fact, I had no clue about the immigration/visa process when I got married and afterwards and was 'stuck' in the USA...
Definitely no intention at all in my case....Just visited...got married..then realized..Uh Oh....Can I stay?
So I went to seek the advice of an immigration lawyer....
And it was the lawyer that said that I should do the Visitor to AOS route instead of the other immigrant visa routes....(no point in going back for me..)...
Definitely not a loophole here! It is legal! But yes, it does carry a lot of risk in this process!
For example, if there was a denial, it could not have been appealed (unlike the other visa routes), and would have been deported...scary....
But we took that risk anyways..and it paid off for me....Can't say that this works for everyone though...
Again, contact a lawyer if in doubt of your particular situation....Which I advise anyone to do in this and in any case...
Every situation is different...So don't pre-judge as to one way is better than another way......
As long as in the end it all works out well, then so be it...

Hope this helps too..Good luck on your journeys too..

Ant

P.S. If you HAVE PRIOR INTENTION TO IMMIGRATE ON YOUR VISIT you're probably better off filing for:
-A K1 (fiance visa...go back to your former country, file the paperwork, get married in the USA, adjust status, get green card)
-A K3 (marriage visa...go back to your former country, get married in the former country, file paperwork, come to USA, adjust status, get green card)
-A CR-1 (marriage visa...go back your former country, get married in the former country, file paperwork, come to the USA, get green card...)

Please if anyone else has something to add .....Also still wondering if I can apply now for the AOS where I have ready filed our I-130 in late October????
