hmmm, well that is weird.

Hello, This Craig-Jacquie ,
I am the husband. It is exciting to see everyone get their interview dates after such a long wait. Jacquie wanted me to ask you a question. Were you able to get The dhl part of the process done? Thank you in advance. Take care.

Just out of curiosity, Craig_n_Jackie & Canadiandggal, what exactly did the operator from NVC tell you? Did they also say that they "found out" about the date today?

I did not ask. I did not care. He only told me what our date was.

I called DOS and the lady told me my case was pending. I asked her if the case was pending at the NVC or at the Consulate? Then she just transferred me to NVC without answering my question. I was on hold for 15 minutes and finally Renée from NVC told me that my interview date is October 26. They just found out about it today (not sure what that means exactly) and they're sending out the interview letter by email to me and my husband.

I have been checking my email every 2 minutes since I spoke to her but nothing's shown up yet.

But I guess I still got a date? Oct 26, 2010?

Awesome!!!! musi I will have to call when i get off work tonight. My wife will be so excited.Praise you Lord!!!

This is just so frustrating, if we at least had a date instead of this waiting game it would be nice....How much patience can one person have??? Haven't seen hubby since March....Boo-hoo

I am Jacquies husband and the lack of information from the nvc is uncalled for. I sent them an email telling them that it is embarrassing as a us citizen how they treat people on the phone, and to show some decency by posting up to date information so that we can at least know what is going on.

No interview for me today....I called this morning and Lewis told me they weren't scheduling October interviews until after September 15...even though I told him there were people already scheduled for October he proceeded to tell me again nothing being booked until after Sept 15, I just said okay whatever and hung, its a waste of my time to even call. Praying for tomorrow to hear something..I pray all of us May people get one.

Also, I was wondering how everyone got EXACT dates as to when the case was completed at NVC?
We got sign in failed and the NVC confirmed were waiting for the interview date, but i was wondering where i could find out the exact date it was approved?

Also, when can i book my medical appointment? Do i have to wait to have my interview date or i can do it before?

I used the date that login failed for my NVC complete date. No you can not book your medical until you have an interview date. Welcome to the waiting game.....

Case completed at NVC today...yipee. One step closer to going home to be with my husband. Please add me in the timelines. Hoping to be home before the end of August. Thanks everyone who has helped us along, with some stupid questions we have asked. You are all so so wonderful with lots of helpful advice. Blessings to you all

I am staying at Trylon hotel/apartments...will be staying in Montreal so therefore was looking for something that had a kitchen so I could prepare my own meals. Place is clean and really have no complaints at this point. About a five minute walk to Medisys and ten minutes to the consulate. Grocery store about a two minute walk. I am renting a studio apartment for about $85 a day taxes included. Hope this helps someone else

CanadaBeginning of our Journey
Thank you all. Right now we're more excited and eager than paniced, i'm sure there will be plenty of time for that part later.
I did have a couple of pre questions to ask.
I live in Nova Scotia and have been reading that later in the process I will be interviewed, however the closest place is in Montrel to do this.
That's quite a trek on our already strained budget, does anyone know of any goverment help or have you all done this part out of pocket?
Also, have any of you found that with us being Canadian the process seemed to go smoother when compared to other countries?
For our case we have no past criminal records, the only time i've traveled was to visit my husband when we were still dating, neither of us have been married before, neither of us have or have had kids, or own properity. I don't know if that makes my case less or more complicated.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I'll be sure to ask qustions as I'm rather paranoid about us doing something wrong and mess up the process.
It's great to know we have a place like this to seek help from people who truely know what you're going through.

CanadaBeginning of our Journey
Hello everyone,

I'm a long time reader, first time poster of VJ.
My husband and I got married on Sept. 25th 2010.
He's American, I'm Canadian. Our plan is for me to move to the US.
I plan on helping him assemble all the paperwork as I do paperwork for a living. =)

From the help here i've been getting a lot of information on what to do and where to go from here.
We are just beginning the process of getting everything together, and I was hoping I could get some advice from you all on how you started your process just so I can double/triple check that we have everything we need.

Thank you and thank you for such a helpful site.

CanadaNS woman denied entry

I posted my comment on cbc.ca ;)

This woman bought a one way ticket to visit her husband in the US. As a Canadian who is now a permanent resident in the US and knows the immigration system fairly well. That one way ticket is a massive red flag. White Canadians get asked those same questions all the time. When crossing the border you need to show PROOF OF TIES TO CANADA. This is things like a round trip ticket, bank account statemens showing funds to support yourself while in the US, rental agreements, utility bills, letters from employers etc etc. That was her error, she didn't prove she was coming back to Canada. She bought a one way ticket to visit her new husband in the US. Any sane and comitted customs agent would say no. If she went back with proof of ties to Canada and a return ticket I can almost guarantee she'd cross. This isn't an issue of race or religion this is an issue of common sense and not feeling some ridiculous self entitlement of being able to enter another country. Being a Canadian citizen and having a passport DOES NOT equal entry into the US. Get over it already. Crying to the media probably won't help her case at all in my honest opinion.

It's not only white Canadians that get asked these questions are taken to secondary and sometimes denied entry

So sorry for your loss (F)

Canada10 months to citizenship. I am going to do it.

Keep in mind that generally, CPP is a very small amount of money. Normally if you haven't worked in Canada for any length of time, your payment will be very small (think: a few hundred a month), it is the OAS and the provincial supplement that top it up to be any kind of amount anyone could live on.

Yes you're correct and if a person takes CPP at age 60 they lose .5 for every yr. before age 65 which works out to 30%of the CPP
Although I did find this out from CPP:

14. What happens if I lived or worked in another country?
Canada has agreements with many countries, which can help you get pensions or benefits from either country. If you did not live or work long enough in one of these countries to qualify, the time you spent in the other country may be added to meet the requirement.

If you have lived or worked in another country, you should contact us

Canada10 months to citizenship. I am going to do it.
Can I receive CPP payments outside Canada?

Yes, provided you meet all eligibility conditions, payments are made anywhere in the world.

Canada10 months to citizenship. I am going to do it.

The Old Age Security pension is like a large pie divided into 40 equal portions. If you qualify for the "full pension," you are entitled to receive all 40 portions each month. If you qualify for a "partial pension," you will receive some, but not all, of the 40 portions each month. Whether you qualify for a full or partial pension depends on how long you've lived in Canada. See below for more details.

Full Pension

Normally, if you meet the conditions in either of the two categories below, you qualify for a full pension:

Category 1 -

You lived in Canada for at least 40 years after turning 18.
Category 2 - You were 25 years of age or over on July 1, 1977, and;

resided in Canada, or;
had some prior residence in Canada after age 18, or;
were in possession of a valid Canadian Immigration Visa and
You resided in Canada for the 10 years immediatelyprior to the approval of your application.

If you have not lived in Canada for all of these last 10 years because you gave up residence here at some time, you may still qualify for a full pension if you meet both conditions below:

You lived in Canada for the year immediately before your application was approved.
Prior to these last 10 years, you lived in Canada after age 18 at least 3 times as long as the total of your absences during the last 10 years.
Partial Pension

Partial Pension

If you don't qualify for the full pension and you meet the conditions in either of the situations below, you may qualify for a partial pension. Once a partial pension is approved, the number of portions of the "pie" that you will receive can never be increased. You will, however, qualify for any cost-of-living increases.

7. How much is a partial pension?
For each complete year of residence in Canada after age 18, you earn 1 of the 40 portions available in the pension. In other words, if you lived in Canada for 10 years after age 18, you would qualify to receive 10 portions which is equal to one-quarter of the full pension.

Canada10 months to citizenship. I am going to do it.

The other day I was at a birthday party and a woman there was sharing how she immigrated 2 years ago from Canada on a K1 Visa. I asked her if she is going to become a US citizen, and she said she would lose her Canadian retirement if she did that.

True?

The Old Age Security pension is like a large pie divided into 40 equal portions. If you qualify for the "full pension," you are entitled to receive all 40 portions each month. If you qualify for a "partial pension," you will receive some, but not all, of the 40 portions each month. Whether you qualify for a full or partial pension depends on how long you've lived in Canada. See below for more details.

Full Pension

Normally, if you meet the conditions in either of the two categories below, you qualify for a full pension:

Category 1 -

You lived in Canada for at least 40 years after turning 18.
Category 2 - You were 25 years of age or over on July 1, 1977, and;

resided in Canada, or;
had some prior residence in Canada after age 18, or;
were in possession of a valid Canadian Immigration Visa and
You resided in Canada for the 10 years immediatelyprior to the approval of your application.

Yes, citizenship means different things to different people. Perhaps some here are only getting U.S. citizenship out of convenience and not out of true love of the country - or whatever some Americans might deem worthy ideals. However it would seem most, if not all here, have nothing but good intentions toward taking U.S. citizenship.

But seriously, I don't see how any country can expect ALL new citizens to mean this:

I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen.

I doubt most people could honestly say (if they love the country of their birth) that they renounce all allegiance to it. In fact, I personally don't understand why it is in the oath at all. Allegiance to the U.S. yes - renouncing allegiance to your home country - I just don't see the point.

They need a polling booth at the swearing in ceremony, as people leave the room they should anonymously answer the question - did you mean that or not?

This is exactly where I'm having my problem in taking US Citizenship. I just cannot get by stating that I renounce and avoid allegiance and fidelity to Canada. It would be very easy for me to just go along knowing I don't really mean what I say but it would be a false oath.
I don't think I can let Canada out of my heart and renounce my birth Country under oath

My problem is in no way a knock against people who want and take out Citizenship. It's just something I can't seem to overcome.

Canada10 months to citizenship. I am going to do it.

I think there's a good chance that I will want to too. Hard to say at this juncture, since I'm not even a Permanent Resident yet...but right now I'm about 70% swayed by it, with the 30% NOT swayed being because of verbally renouncing other citizenship. I don't know if I'll be comfortable doing that.

I'm in that same frame of mind I would like to take out US citizenship but when I say I will do it and it palys on my mind awhile I find it hard in my heart to denounce Canada

CanadaK-1 Recipient on edge of eligibility for selective service

Who must register
Under current law, all male U.S. citizens are required to register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. In addition, foreign males between the ages of 18 and 26 living in the United States must register. This includes permanent residents (holders of Green Cards), refugees, asylees, dual citizens, and undocumented/illegal aliens.[2] Foreign males in the United States as lawful non-immigrants (international students, visitors, diplomats, etc.) are not required to register.[2] Failure to register as required is grounds for denying a petition for US citizenship.

From what I read here you're a lawful non-immigrant and not required to register.

CanadaKraft dinner is our national food!

I've never had moose before. It was given to me, thought I'd give it a try.

I have eaten plenty of moose meat. Not as tasty as deer or caribou but still pretty good. As with any wild game the taste is all in how the meat is prepared in the field and cooked.

Cut slits in a moose roast, stuff em with sliced garlic. Sprinkle top with some black pepper, garlic and onion powder.
Put in 2 cans of cream/ mushroom soup add sliced mushrooms, onion and green peppers
cook at 275 for several hrs. or longer ( depending on roast size )

Serve it with baked or garlic potatoes along with cauliflower, broccoli or veggies of choice.
