CanadaThere is no god!!!!

Not related to Tims----last yr in BC a group of A&W restaurant workers won the lottery, something like $15 million. The hiccup was that there were 1 or 2 that occasionally played, but during that weeks lottery, they didn't pay (thus play) so when the group won, those that had not paid, tried to lay claim to their share. Anyone hear the outcome of that? last I heard that the ones that did pay got their share, but it was based on as if everyone had payed. So, the unpaying peoples share was put into a court orderd trust, until it could be decided. Never did hear the verdict.

Yeah Flames last I heard that was going to be tied up in court and they wouldn't let the money be released to the winners.
The group had a Lawyer who in an interview played the Lortto 649 advertisement where they say" you can't win if you're not in". He was showing since the other few weren't in that draw the advertisement itself claims you can't win if not in
I haven't heard any thing more on it though

CanadaThere is no god!!!!
The little girl that found the cup in the garbage eventually ended up owning the cup. Her parents claimed the prize. They had at first intended on sharing with the other girl ( the one who rolled the rim as the little one who found it couldn't roll up the rim ) and her parents.
But when her parents tried to claim full ownership because she rolled the rim they decided to give nothing.
The teacher lost his claim because ownership is to that of the holder in Canada and since he tossed it and the kid was then the holder it was righfully her's.
He gave up ownership and entitlement when he threw it away. Wonder how he sleeps now lol lol

CanadaFax or Mail...and Fax Machines...
I'm not sure if things have changed but when I did my DS156 forms electronically in Jan and then printed off the copies with the bar code in the bottom right hand corner it stated attach copy of photo
I sent the forms with pics attached, sent Montreal an email inquiring about the pics for my interview and was told I wouldn't need 2 pics at my interview as I had already included them with my returned packet 3

I don't trust Montreal because of the different versions I get and hear on things involving them and therefore will be taking 2 passport pics with me when my interview happens anyhow. I would much rather be safe that sorry

CanadaMore questions... passport photos

About the passport photos:

Packet 3 says they are supposed to all be the same. How are they supposed to be the same if Montreal wants 2 by 2 and the medical office I contacted wants 1.5 by 1.5?! And even if they are different sizes, should I get them all at the same time but just different sizes so they are identical (except the size)?

AND...

Am I supposed to attach the photos to the forms or not? Someone recently said no but the form says to staple or glue the photos to it...

I sent mine stapled for that very reason you refer too. It says in the box bottom right hand corner page 1 "Glue or attach photo"
So I did just that sent the packet 3 back then emailed Montreal ionquiring since my photos were attached to the 2 forms would I be required to bring 2 pics for my interview They told me no as the passport pics were on the forms I returned.

I will still be taking 2 passport photos with me though for the simple fact I just don't trust Montreal about anything they or USCIS has told us throughout this entire process. Seems staff have different versions on things

CanadaEmailing Montreal?
There have been a couple of occasions where they neglected replying to my email
But when that happened I simply kept resending until they did reply. After the 2nd resend they usually did. Sometimes I'd receive a reply in 1 day others up to 5 days later

Canadaa new question.....I think anyways

In retrospect, I wish we had applied for AP when we filed AOS. I would encourage anyone to do that if they think there is a chance of having to go back to Canada.

At the time of filing, my husband had no plans to return to Canada in the near future. Everyone in his family was healthy and were coming to see us in April for our wedding. Also, money was tight (we paid for AOS and EAD, plus knew our formal wedding was coming up), so he chose not to pay the additional money to file for AP.

Well, our wedding was April 21 in CT. My husband's family traveled with us up to New Hampshire a couple days later to spend more time with us and see our house. My MIL became very ill and was hospitalized for 5 days (long story, but suffice it to say this last week was the week from HELL). Anyway, she has been stabilized enough to travel back to Canada to receive services from her regular doctor that will be fully covered insurance wise. My husband had wanted to travel back to BC with his parents to offer support and assistance as they traveled, but couldn't because he did not have AP. So, I drove them to Montreal yesterday, let my husband out at a small town on the Vermont - Canada border where he killed 5 hours waiting for me to get back from dropping my in-laws at the airport.

I'm very sorry to hear that I hope everything works out well

Canadaa new question.....I think anyways

After we (my girls and I) cross the border with our K1 visa's are my girls able to return to Canada prior to my getting married???

See, my girls spend a lot of time with my parents in Canada. They are planning on watching them when me and my man take off for our wedding in Vegas. Now last nite as I'm trying to fall asleep I had this question in my head....what if they can't go back to Canada?? Then what....???

We live on the border (as you may/may not already know) so it all works out so good. Now, I'm just concerned.

anyone???

Nope... only with AP which you can file with your I-485 after you are married... So your parents would have to come to the US if they want to watch them.. if they go to Canada, they will not be able to get back into the US...

As Canadians we oftentimes have become too complacent about our relationship with the border. This shoudl serve as a reminder on how complicated the border really is...

Is there such a thing as an emergency advanced travel. Like if somebody back home in Canada took ill and you had to get back to be with them. I would like to find this out as my Mother is up in yrs and I'm wondering if she took ill would I be allowed to travel back to Canada before the 2 yr thing

CanadaDr Weiner Ottawa
Just like Flames said. Doc. Doane sent mine by courier 20 bucks. On the feet, he checked mine and when I asked him why he was checking he told me to see if I was flatfooted. Why they would want to know that I don't know
For $180 he checked everything I got my money's worth lol

On the DS-156K form it states 3/4 of the way down on the form in a shaded area. Do not write below this line With thehe signature area being below the line I didn't sign it and will do so when I get to Montreal

CanadaBehaviors, manners and overall attitude

A couple things I have noticed different. Where I come from in Canada it's proper to hold a door open for the person coming behind you and to also hold the door and let ladies enter first. I have noticed on many occasions here in the US some people don't care whether anybody is coming behind they just enter and let the doors go
Also have noticed on occasion where men don't hold the door for women and let em enter or exit ahead of them
Several times I've seen people struggling to get something into thier vehicle and people just walk by looking at them. I have helped people several times and they seem amazed to have somebody do that. In Canada it's no big deal

In the US I find the people working the cashier stands are far more friendly and talkative than home. Also here they cater more to the customers in the stores. Most times if you ask where something is they'll take you to it not tell you a route how to find it and they always ask if you found everything you were looking for.

well you must not be from Barrie , Allie!!! I have have never seen anything so ignorant in my life as the way people were there at Christmas time. ......strollers over the toes at the mall , people rushing to beat you to a door or a line........it was awful. After dealing with the ignorance there I was pretty well cocked and loaded for anything on the drive back to Michigan........we stopped for dinner just outside Sarnia and as I exited the building behind a man and his wife , he let the door close in my face. I had enough so I loudly said "THANK YOU". He turned around and said " oh my god Im sorry , I didnt see you there........I certainly wouldnt have let the door the door close on you on purpose". I felt a bit bad(for about a second) for snapping at him so I smiled and said " Okay" THEN he turns back and says "AND ITS NOT LIKE I HAVE EYES IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD"..........I just laughed at him then.

Nope, I'm from Cape Breton Island N.S.

That shoe taking off thing.. that I can't understand.. why DON"T people take off shoes when they enter a house? Holy.. Hubby NEVER did before he met me... I had to tell him that wearing his shoes at my mom's house was a BIG Faux Pas and could effect eternally his position in our family! lol.. not that bad.. but almost!

When I first visited here I had to explain the shoe removal at the door is an automatic thing when entering. Lorry kept telling me "there's no need to remove your shoes everyone leaves em on it's okay" She still leaves her shoes on but I'm working on it lol,lol

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDate of expiration for the petition..?
I just had my interview in Montreal Canada on the 8th of June. On our NOA2 the validity date was until the 29th of May. I emailed the consulate and they said not to worry they automatically extend it. This is probably routine for all consulates. But you can email yours or call and they will tell you for sure.

CanadaTitre test
From what I have read and been told the only immunizations Canadians need is the MMR and tetanus (mumps, measles, rubella). So you will need to have a titer done for them if you don't have your immunization record and that will determine if the antibodies for each are present in your blood. If you haven't had any immunizations since school then you might just want to go to your local department of health and have your MMR and tetanus updated anyway since they should be done every 10 years and save your self the aggravation. Hope it helps.

Joel I sure wish I knew why I was still waiting. But like someone said it's the government and no matter what country your from government never changes they do things their way in their own time and there isn't a thing anyone can do to change it. Just accept it and move on or you'll be in the same place I was a few weeks ago and it's not of any benefit to yourself or your sweetie. Why destroy the one thing you are working so hard for by being depressed and nasty because of some government idiots.

I know exactly how you feel. The consulate received my packet 3 on March 2nd and I am still waiting. I called again yesterday and I was told I am on the list and will receive and interview soon and that they are scheduling them for July now.I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to any of this. And all we poor saps can do is sit back and wait. Hang in there guys. ( ha ha ha isn't that rich coming from me the constant complainer). CanadaPreparing for Interview
So I spent today going through all the papers and making sure I had everything organized and together. Just want someone to let me know if I should have more or less!!! Now if anyone else wants to post just exactly what they brought along with them so I can make sure I didn't forget anything, I'll be forever greatful. I have all the things from the checklist and the I-134 plus a letter from my fiance's employers and his bank, I have his 2005 income tax return and updated letter of intent. Am I missing anything? The biggest question I have is the proof of ongoing relationship. I have a few pics, boarding passes from his trips to visit since we filed the I-129f, the receipts for gas and hotel I used to drive down to visit him, our phone records since we filed with all the calls daily to each other ( we used an MCI calling card so all the calls from him to me and me to him are on one bill each month) and christmas, valentines and easter cards. Think that's enough. I am getting really nervous now and I don't want to show up there missing something and have to wait any longer. I am so ready for this to be over. And I don't want to change our wedding date. August 19th wooooooohooooooooooooo!!! theres light at the end of the tunnel. Just 22 days before my interview!!!!

CanadaCriminal Record Check
Not exactly sure where your at in the process but, from your timeline looks like your just filing. I'm not an expert but the record check does need to be recent.............maybe within 6 months so I'd inquire about how long your local office will take to get it for you but hold off actaully getting it until you get you packet 3 from the US consulate here in Canada. I have seen other post that the consulates like them to be as recent as possible. Just a thought to save you from doing it twice or paying the fee twice. Or showing up for your interview and having them say it's to old, the process is long enough without having things delayed. I know it's hard to sit and wait I was te same way wanted to be doing as much as possible to be ready. Hope this helps and good luck on your journey, hope it's a smooth, painless and quick one.

Congrats, I had my interview Thursday in Montreal and it was just as easy, three questions. And I'm just like you staring at my visa. Isn't it the most wonderful thing?
FredaNot TellingCanada2006-06-10 08:59:00
CanadaA couple of questions about the interview
Something I never heard mention here and never even thought of your car starter or alarm or remote for the locks etc. they consider that an electronic to. I didn't have it the day of my interview but the next day when I went to pick up my visa I was leaving to go right away and I didn't even think of it and they took it off my car key and kept it until I left. So you might have to turn that over if you have it.

CanadaCrossing the border while K-1 Pending
I went to the Us to visit my fiance while waiting on the visa. And like everyone says theres just no way of knowing. All depends on the person you see at customs. We had already recieved our packet 3 from Montreal and were waiting on an interview date at the time. I brought a letter from my employer stating when I was due back at work and they did ask for it. So I guess it's up to you and whether you want to risk the money and if you can provide sufficiate proof of ties here in Canada. But like most I drove into the US so the most I was risking if they denied me was a days worth of gas and driving. Good luck if you decide to try.
