Tell them you are going to visit your fiance. They asked me for his address and phone number of where I would be staying. I took lots of ties to Canada with me, but the only thing they were interested in seeing was my return ticket. Good luck and just be honest. :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe Wedding
We had most of the planning completed before we were able to pick the date, so that most of the hard stuff was done long before we set a date. We didn't pick a date until we had the NOA2 in hand, and then guestimated. Jerry got in touch with the wedding/reception site and the photographer/videographer, and explained our situation, and they agreed to be a bit more flexible in booking (especially since it looked like we would be married on a Sunday, which is traditionally not an "in demand" day). We ended up moving it back another month, and got everything we wanted.

I know what you are feeling about having your family there. Because of the timing and the distance, only my parents and my brother could fly in. :( So we made sure to get a good videographer, and made sure we got copies for our parents, our grandparents, and my brother's family (my sis in law was too pregnant at the time to fly :( ). We do not regret that decision at all, since the video turned out perfectly, and everyone got to see it. We also flew back last September with our pictures and wedding attire, and had a couple of parties so everyone could see us all decked out and celebrate a bit. It was fun, and actually a lot more relaxing than if we had a ton of people to deal with at our wedding.

I have to admit, it wasn't what I had originally imagined for my wedding, but it ended up being perfect. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCSC sorry have to vent
Well, L&M, seeing as you are a newbie, maybe you don't know about the following:

--Texas was at a complete standstill as far as fiance visas were concerned last year (and maybe others, but those for sure), and California was going along well, so things have been transferred over there to give the K-1'ers going through TSC a fighting chance. This has been going on for months now -- the hurricanes last September have nothing to do with it.

--Then, California sometime late last year (jasman, do you remember when?) uncovered a major immigration fraud ring that if I remember correctly involved an employee. Consequently, things slowed down considerably as the powers that be cleaned up the mess and reviewed cases that were questionable.

--Other service centres may not seem busy at all to the naked eye, but they have other visas (workers, students, etc) to deal with as well. The amount of applications being submitted to all the service centres numbers in the millions -- that's a lot of paperwork to wade through!

And I am sure others could go on with this list, but I'll cut it short. One thing I must humbly remind you is that marrying someone who is not an American citizen and asking for permission for them to enter this country is not a RIGHT, but a PRIVILEGE.

Oh, and throwing around the Republican / Democrat labels and stereotypes in here won't get you very far either.

Best wishes for a successful visa journey!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about filling out I-129F

see if you can get the details from your attorney,
but do be honest and give them the approx date or A# or case# along with the divorce docs..

It was about 6 years ago. I can't find the company anymore. Don't know if they've moved or went out of business. I don't know how to contact my ex-wife. Don't have her address or phone number. So question #11 asks if I ever filed ANY visa or specifically K-1 visa for anyone before? Thanks.

You've already answered your question in your original post

I was married in China to a woman several years ago and went through an attorney to get her over to the US.

The question is asking if you've previously filed for a fiance or spouse, which you have. Answer it with as much information as you possibly can.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfeeling frustrated

RCMP fingerprints are not necessary unless they are specifically asked for, if you have had problems with the law in the past then you might want to look into getting the fingerprints but otherwise I wouldn't bother... this is just my opinion

http://www.rcmp.ca/c...htm#Application

its only $25 better to be prepared than ready to go and have to wait 5 months, trust me, this was required and I have never been in trouble with the law so I wasnt red-flaged for it, anyone under 16 on my application had to have one, I also got a background check from my local police department, because I had to get one for my job so I had it handy and included it, I believe it was $25 also.
I also (finally after a year of screwing around with te registrar general) had my birth certificate ...then realized that they need the long form, not the cute wallet sized ones they typically issue, so...order that ahead also.
I scanned in the letter I got from the consulate, I will post it.

I am not sure why you HAD to get the fingerprinting name check, it specifically states in the package 3 letter from the consulate that it isn't necessary unless you have a police record. Normally the "name only" check is sufficient.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSpoke to USCIS
For K-1s, the NVC is a mere blip on the radar screen in this whole process. The service centre sends in a bunch of their approvals to NVC, and NVC basically reroutes them to the appropriate embassy. c'est tout! I think our petition stayed there for a day? Two days?

I'm not sure what information you had been told, but it sounds like you are on the right track now!

If you had a legal wedding in Columbia, you are now in big trouble, I am sorry to say. You'll need a lawyer for sure.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion 18 on I-129

Felicity's going to the post office tomorrow to send all the paperwork to me, so I can file the I-129. I wasn't sure if she needed to also make the 1 page typed paper on how we met, or if the USCIS only cares about me answering it. If I don't include something from her perspective on that, am I more likely to get an RFE? It's getting down to crunch time, and I'm just a nervous wreck!

You will need a letter of intent to marry from Felicity, but she doesn't HAVE to answer that question, it's not necessary. You, the USC, are the one petitioning USCIS to allow Felicity to apply for a fiance visa, so you are required to answer all the questions.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresany ideas on the best way to marry my american fiance?
other things you will need....

copies of your fiance's and your LONG form birth certificates (the little laminated cards we get in Canada don't cut it). Your fiance will need his to send in a copy with the I-129f.

a Canada wide records check (without fingerprints if you do not have a record) performed by the RCMP -- you won't have to get a records check from the three provinces you mentioned, the Canada wide check is sufficient.

the medical exam will be performed by an approved Civil surgeon in the province you currently reside in. Usually you have to wait until your petition makes its way to the Montreal or Vancouver Consulate and you receive what we call "package 3" with all teh forms, letter, etc. Take your vaccination records with you to this appointment, and the doctor will fill out the forms. (Some people have incomplete vaccination records, many go to their regular doctor and get blood titres to ascertain what, if any shots they need).

We have what is called the Canuck Clearing House threads -- look in the regional forums under Canada (for the most current one) and in my signature below (for the older one) for the links. There's a ton of links and info in them. And feel free ask us questions. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConsulate Offices in Canada

I miss my toronto.

No. Montreal will handle your case. kthnxbi!

Does that mean I have to go to Montreal for my interview?!!!! Surely you jest.

nope, no jesting. Sorry!

Compared to some of us who went through Montreal, you're just a hop skip and a jump away. See it as a vacation, or an adventure. Montreal is a great city! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCanadian Interview Info
The smaller consular offices don't handle visas that we are dealing with on this board, sorry. They're more for assisting American citizens in Canada You'll be dealing with Vancouver, which is a great consulate. :) Check the Canadian Clearing House thread for links to information threads about Vancouver.

I'm pretty sure that all documents that need to be translated have to be translated by an independant third party. Someone else more familiar with this will pop up with info soon, I am sure. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow did you meet your fiance?
We met online in a chat room. He made the mistake of asking if Nova Scotia was near Germany, I called him a dumb yankee in need of geography lessons, he laughed, and it was all downhill from there. ;)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiancé Letter of Intent

"to whom it may concern covers it all"

Glad to hear that, because thats all I or my fiance put on our letters. I didnt know about this site yet and didnt know what to put on the letter heading, so no RFE's on THAT part of the petition so i guess we are ok. I will however remember to do it correctly when i send him the second intent to marry letter after approval.

Yep, we found Visa Journey after sending in our K-1 petition, and we didn't address our letters to anywhere specific, "to whom it may concern" did it for us. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 visa petition

Hi there!

I'd just put one copy of each supplemental letter behind each complete copy of the G-335a.... since they are each a supplement to each copy you send in!

Good luck!

that's exactly what we did. :)
CassieFemaleCanada2006-03-06 00:31:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 visa petition
The only things Daniel, as the non-USC has to sign are: the four pages of his G-325A, and his letter of intent to marry. They have to be original signatures.

He does not have to sign the supplement page detailing his employment, but ensure that it is labelled with the question number, the question itself, and his name. Also, you'll need four copies of it, one to go with each copy of the G-325a.

Make sure that everything (your proof of meeting evidence) is labelled.

Best wishes. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresjust to clarify??

Does this apply to Canada as well? Please say no!

SOME Canadian K-1s have reported that they were allowed to cross the border without using the K-1 visa. This is at the officer's discretion and I would never count on it---it would just be a bonus extra.

Mark: I'm wondering if you did not read the replies to this question already?
http://www.visajourn...508

yeh i did they were great thnx. i was just confused

it seems a bit harsh, what about making wedding plans and arranging the venue and such. i mean they make u wait so long without knowing if and when it can happen so you cant plan to much. then when u can go ahead you arent allowed to enter unless its for the actual big day

You're allowed to enter whenever you want, you just can't leave. ;) You have 6 months after the visa is issued to actually use it, and then 90 days to get married.

I entered the US on Nov 1/04, and was married 6 days later. We planned and arranged a great wedding (full blown religious ceremony) -- and I only got to see the wedding/reception site 45 minutes before we got married! Having a very helpful fiance (and his mom and sister helped a lot as well) and using the internet was awesome.

We had everything planned and decided and ready so as soon as we knew a date, we had everything ready to go. Jerry also talked to the photographer/videographer and the wedding/reception site about our situation, and they were willing to be more flexible as far as booking dates were concerned.

Or, many people have had a simple civil ceremony, with a more formal ceremony with all the trimmings later. That might be another alternative for you, may save you a lot of stress. :) Do what makes you happy. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThey kept my fiancees packet!!!

Montreal will not ask for proof of your relationship but if you're concerned bring copies of the envelopes to your interview.

this is not entirely true. Montreal rarely asks for proof of relationship (as far as fellow VJ'ers have reported so far), but it does happen. A quick example: On the day of my interview, another gentleman was asked to provide evidence that he had met and had a relationship with his fiance's son. He whipped out the pictures of their trip to Disneyworld, and the officer was satisfied with what she saw.

Long story short though is this: whatever evidence you bring, copy it, and bring that as well! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThey kept my fiancees packet!!!
I don't know what to tell you since they took my entire packet (which is normal, by the way). You might be able to get the documents you want back at the AOS interview. You can get copies of your tax transcripts for free by calling a number at the IRS (it's on their website). other than that, dunno, sorry.
