CanadaDo i need any info if i go get the MTL medical in advance ?
I was able to book and have my medical appointment before packet 3 came to me, because the doctor I went to didn't require anything from said packet.

I had booked my appointment a month in advance (at the time, TSC was processing things in 2-3 months) because I wasn't sure how fast his schedule booked up and I wanted to make sure I had a time slot close to when I thought the I-129f would get approved. The receptionist gave me a list of things to bring, but nothing from packet 3. I was ready to call them back if it looked like I wasn't close to approval, but a week before the medical my petition was at NVC, so I took a copy of the notice (which had my Montreal case #) with me -- turns out I got packet 3 a couple of days after the medical.

Check with the doctor where you plan on having the medical -- they will tell you what you need to bring. smile.gif

It's a typical full medical. Nothing crazy! It's not a full ob/gyn exam, if you know what I mean smile.gif

Mine went about the same as how Len described it.

exactly!! My wife fel in love with it one trip to Canada, but never actually never got to try it out until I moved down here. We attended a open house at a local rink, she really respected it after that!!

Aye, my husband thought I was goofy for liking it until he sat down and paid attention to a game during the last Olympics. He loves the intricacies of figuring out the curl and the angles versus where you want the rocks to go and end up. When we move back to Canada, we'll try out a rec league or something smile.gif

CanadaEI and Canuck Clearinghouse Threads
QUOTE
Secondly, the Canuck Clearinghouse thread. I was reading some posts in there and can't make out what it's about. Lots of posts on knitted dish cloths and Montreal medicals. Am I missing something here? What is "Clearinghouse" exactly? I'm assuming it's some kind of legal information?

Again, I am unable to access the older Canuck Clearinghouse thread.

J of Team J and B

The point, when this thread was originally started by me on the old VJ, was to have links to all Canadian related information threads in one master thread (we didn't have the Canada forum like we do now). The links were organized at the beginning of the thread according to topic (Montreal information, Vancouver information, moving, etc etc etc), so we could go to one place instead of searching through many many threads all over VJ. We also had links to external sites, like websites where you could order Canadian food, various government agencies (like CRA), etc etc. When we switched over to the current site, we could no longer access the old links, and this thread never really got organized like the old one -- and that was my fault. I might just get Ewok to unpin this thread.

Just so you know. It really was useful, I promise. It was a lot of work to keep it organized, but I enjoyed it, and lots of people helped with link suggestions.

As for the dishcloth thing, I just attribute it to our tendency in the Canadian forum to completely divert from the original topic into something totally different! It made sense at the time.

CanadaThe, obviously wrong, feeling of time
I dunno, I guess I must be a freak, because I really didn't have time to think about stuff like that. I mean, I was doing like fifty things at once and didn't have time to dwell. I had a full time job that frequently required overtime, packing up my apartment, planning the wedding/buying stuff for the wedding, preparing immigration stuff, spending time with my family/friends, and spending time with Jerry (in person and not). Honestly, even though we had to wait a bit, the time really did fly by in a blur.

I had no choice, I had to give up my Canadian DL as it was in my maiden name, and apparently I can't have a whole bunch of photo ID with various names on them wink.gif
CassieFemaleCanada2008-03-10 14:32:00
CanadaAny canadians here have info about getting a US driver's license?
It depends on the state.

I live in Oklahoma. Since I had a valid Canadian DL at the time, I only had to complete the visual test, and give up my Canadian DL.

Other states require written, driving, and visual, or combinations of the three. What state will you be moving to? That will help us help you better. smile.gif

I guess our case is easy....The only "particular" point that I could see would be that my girlfriend was married before and got her divorce final just before we started the K1 process (although I don't see it as something that special....What do you think?)

Wasn't a problem for my husband and I, we were in the same situation as you. Didn't get questioned about it at the interview or anything.

yes. You will need to prepare a list of what you are bringing and approximate values of the bigger pieces (especially the electronics). There's also a form to fill out if I remember correctly.

Do a search of the threads in the Canadian forum and you will see a lot of discussions on what is needed to do when you move. smile.gif

CanadaPOE experience when flying in to US
I flew through Calgary when activating my K-1, and have flown through Halifax since then using GC or GC/extension letter. I have had no problems in either airport.

CanadaReal Estate and mortgages...
My hubby said this:

"yes you can include your existing income when applying for the loan, as long as you can prove that income. They will judge your credit-worthiness based on that amount, and most likely you would get the loan. However, I don't think it's a smart idea to do so for your own financial safety, since that income will stop once you move to the US and you won't have it to rely on. The bank will give the loan, but will you be able to maintain the payments on just his salary alone until you can work?"

Please note: my hubby is not a real-estate expert, just really good with his money (and his accountant friends can attest to that!). smile.gif

You present your AP with your passport when you go through the border checkpoint coming back into Canada. Be prepared to be taken into secondary processing while they review the paperwork. Give both sheets. They are to stamp one and give it back to you, and keep the other (sometimes they will give back both copies, so don't be worried if they do). Carrying a copy of your marriage certificate is a good idea as well, if they ask for it.
Just to clarify the AP is for going back into the US not for coming into Canada. Processing of the AP docs will be at the US border or US pre-clearance if you are travelling via air for your return back to the US.

Yep, thanks for catching that Neiks! I totally meant coming back to the US. Had a brain fart when typing that I guess!

thank you!! Your posts are very helpful. I'm glad to learn about being pulled into secondary questioning. I would never have expected that and I'm sure I would have been a nervous wreck if I hadn't known.

It's not a big deal, really. If it's anything like secondary processing at an airport, they're basically pulling you aside so that the rest of the line can get through while they are looking at your documents. smile.gif

as soon as you move and become a resident of another country, you are no longer eligible for the GST rebate. I also was disqualified for a student loan reduction program because I was a resident of the US, even though the timeframe they would have looked at far as my income was concerned was before I moved. Doesn't matter to them. Even when I contacted them to cancel my GST rebate cheques, one still was direct deposited. They soon sent me a letter telling me to pay it back -- ever so efficient when it comes to collecting their money! tongue.gif
