made my 1st red velvet cake tonite..

Hubby licked the beaters & the bowl (probably literally).. He now has "pink" cake lipstick all over his face. wacko.gif silly man

Pics! We want pics! Of the cake, that is. lol

I've never had/made red velvet cake (sounds so American, doesn't it? lol) but when I read that I immediately thought of the groom's cake in Steel Magnolias. laughing.gif

That's all I have for memories too smile.gif But Hubby bought a box mix when he was in LA last month, so I figured we'd give it a go. He asked me to put cream cheese icing on it too, which is pretty stinking amazing I must say..

here's the pics.. how do you ice a red cake with white frosting without the cake bleeding through anyway? I did SUCH a horrible job of icing tongue.gif

make double the icing wink.gif

Sigh....gas in our little corner of the world is already at $4.82 a gallon. According to one of the gas websites (where you search for the cheapest gas) WE are so far the highest in price.

$4.82 a gallon...and that's at one of the supermarkets....just since yesterday's reported price of less than $4.00

that blows my mind -- we're more than a dollar less here! I do not understand the huge disparity in prices!

Hmm, maybe only if your family doctor doesn't do that type of thing? I know of many women here that do that...but I think it's unnecessary unless you have specific issues that need to be addressed. I went to my family Dr. in Canada for everything. If she referred me to a specialist, then I went, otherwise she handled it. My Dr. here is my GP, I have my yearly "wellness woman" PAP with her. I don't need any pills, but I would assume she'd prescribe them if I needed them.

Well that's exactly what I was thinking.. I don't have a family Dr either.. sad.gif so i'm on the hunt for that as well.. *sigh.. Hubby is sure I have to go see a GYN which I'm thinking is overkill.. i just need a birth control prescription and a pap..

I have my "regular" doctor, who does my paps and stuff, but she referred me to a OB/GYN when I had other symptoms -- both of them are excellent doctors. I am very fortunate. smile.gif

Trailmix -- we're fixing to get ready to move as well. We found a fantastic one on Friday, we just have to sell ours first! Fingers crossed. smile.gif

biggrin.gif Having a wonderful time here in Pubnico! We had a family/friends get together today...lots of family, family pictures, and lots of food. Tomorrow is our 2nd anniversary and we're going to his parent's cottage by the lake...Joel's parents are babysitting so we get to spend the night there. *sigh* It is heaven being home again...even though technically I'm not Canadian (merely an honourary one). First stop out of Halifax airport was...TIMMY'S!!! biggrin.gif Anywho, it's late here and we are bushed! It was a long day but a very enjoyable one.

Y'all take care now, y'heah!

PS> Stacey -- our dog hates fireworks too (especially since our neighbors all around us spend close to the GDP of a small European country on fireworks and set them off for as many days as they are allowed). It takes him a bit to calm down each night and he's awfully fidgety, but if he can hunker down near one of us, he's ok after a while.

OK...had the interview this morning *expels breath I've been holding* It sounds great...very flexible. I can work from home as much as I want as long as the job gets done, which is great for me since I have Anna...they also pay mileage since the job requires making home visits with families, and I get two weeks vacation, one week of that after six months. No benefits, but Joel can get insurance for us through his employer. Did I mention it pays $8K a year more? If chosen (oh I hope I am!) I will immediately have to fly out to St. Louis, MO for training and certification as a Parent Educator. The interview....it was an hour long! A member of the board of directors sat in on the interview with the program director too...didn't know I would be interviewed by two people...and they seemed very pleased with my answers and my resume. All they asked was for a 18 month to 2 year committment. LOL, I figure if I can commit myself to 13+ years as an educator, I can do this. Anywho...they said they will make a decision very quickly and will call me either way.

Ok...nail biting time...and they're already short! helpsmilie.gif

Oh Karen, this sounds wonderful!!! This would be SO great for you, and your family!! I do so hope they will get back to you quickly and that you're the one they choose! Being able to work at home will be wonderful! Yes, you mentioned it pays more, and isn't that exciting as well!!

I don't know where you'll be taking your training in St. Louis, and what they might cover in regards to housing, but please know that my place is open to you for whatever you need!! If they're covering a hotel, and you'd rather stay there, then that's okay, but PLEASE lets get together!!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and will include you in my prayers. rose.gif

Oh, you are SO prepared for this! You not only have the experience with the teaching, you've also got your own personal experience to draw on!

This is just the thing you need. You'll be able to get out and about and meet people and offer encouragement. Counselling and training draws on your teaching skills. It sounds like you are burning out in your teaching position, and that is not a good place to be. Think of this position as a stepping stone to further advancements in your career. If you don't like it, you can go back to your teaching regimen. This would not be coming to you if you weren't ready for it. I'd go for it! You can do iiiiiiiiiiiit!!!!!!! So netflix brought us a movie on Tuesday - Tara Road - it's based on the Maeve Binchy novel of the same name.

Tara Road was an Oprah's book club book - which I read and loved and have since read every book that Maeve has written.

Anyway, it was a pretty good movie, it's funny when you have read the book though, I kept kind of filling in the parts that I knew had already happened and you keep thinking - if you hadn't read the book would this really make sense? I guess so!

Funny, the movie was never actually released in the theatres in the U.S., I don't know why.

Oh and I sent a postcard to Maeve to tell her how much I like her books and she sent me a postcard back! smile.gif

That is the coolest thing!

I agree!

And I enjoyed the book, too, Trailmix. smile.gif But I think my favourite one was Evening Class. But I'm not sure, yet, because I still haven't read them all.

I have read all her novels and most of her short stories, and Evening Class is my favourite with Scarlet Feather a very close second, and Quentin's a very close third. But heck, I love them all, she is fantastic!
