Now...a previous poster commented about exorbitant costs and how many other developed countries process immigrants at little or no cost. Well thats just grand! But the real question is, why isn't the U.S. citizen spouse emigrating to the foreign spouse's country? Seems like it would be easier and lot less stressful given that the developed country's is so immigration-friendly, no? The fact is that your spouses all wanted to come here to live and not the other way around. I think that says a lot about the good ol' U.S.A. Yes, things take longer, but here in the States we run a lot more security checks on any prospective immigrant (and rightly so) than any other country.

Well, this just boils my blood. What an idiot. Yes, we all came here because the US is the best country on the planet. What an arrogant and moronic thing to say.

Nice, hey? It's a wonder I have a tongue left from biting it so hard the last couple of days!

So, I booked my tickets home online through American. Two of the three flights are on United, operated by Air Canada.

So I call American tonight to find out how to reserve certain seats (ie ones with leg room, since I have a high risk of blood clots) on the non-AA flights.

After 15 minutes of dealing with their darn voice recognition software, I finally get an operator.
Who proceeds to tell me that he can't do anything, I have to call Air Canada.

After 15 minutes of dealing with their "press 1 for reservations" system, I finally get an operator.

I hate my life right now......

i love my hubby and that is perfect.. but the rest of it.. sucks..

I should be more "up".. it's flipping Christmas, but I'm just really really discouraged right now..

I am appalled at my work environment and I am really anxious about the lack of resources this close to the Holidays... This is a crappy time of year for this toxic mix of bad luck, terrible management and lack of opportunities.

Hate is a pretty strong word. Christmas is usually a time, particularly for women I think, when our expectations of what these holidays should "look like" are often skewed. I know it doesn't help when you hate your job. I worry for you about the toxic part. Talk to your husband. If it's that toxic, you don't want it leaking into your relationship. No job is worth that. No job is worth your health, both mental and physical being. Know that we care about you and hope there are smoother roads ahead!

Big Hugs,
Carla rose.gif

*sigh* my momma makes the best hot cross buns. Reading this thread makes me miss her right now, especially since she and Dad were supposed to come visit this week, and they had to cancel because she got sick and the doctors told her to stay home for now. sad.gif

I am fortunate, my company gives Good Friday as a holiday -- the former owner and I'd say 90% of the company's employees are Christian -- but this is definitely not the norm here in Oklahoma. As a Christian myself, I consider this weekend a very important part of my faith to observe (even more so than Christmas, actually) and I am surprised at how few churches offer Good Friday services! Fortunately I have found a church to visit that does a wonderful service -- I have to go somewhere else as my church does not have one itself.

I did indeed Cassie. I hope it's not rejected though! I went to a local photographer/camera dealer to get my passport pictures and they had an ajustment on their picture processor for Canada style passport pictures, so I think I'm okay there, but then I took my whole package to send to my gf in Canada, so that she could be the guarantor, and mail the whole thing to Ottawa...(why did you say Quebec???), however I realized after I sent my package out, that I didn't cut and seperate the pictures I sent. They had the two pictures side by side, and I didn't cut them! They also didn't have a friggin stamp for the back, so they hand wrote it in, their place of business and the date the picture was taken. *sigh* Again, hopefully they'll accept what I sent and not send it back.

I feel utterly NAKED without my passport. I can only hope it doesn't take very long at all and I have it in my hot little hands soon.

haha I just realized you said hot little hands as well! laughing.gif

So, I sent mine to my gf on...Thursday. Let's keep each other informed as to who gets theirs when.

'Cause it says to mail it to Gatineau (basically Ottawa! smile.gif )

Does anyone know that if I renew my passport, and have them mail my new one to here in the US, if the application has to be mailed from the US? Or when my Mum comes to visit next month can I give it to her and she can mail it from TO?

I think it gets sent to different offices depending where you live right?

Reba, I filled out the 153 form (for adults, changing my last name). This is what it said about mailing:

Applying by Mail
Mailed-in applications are processed in Canada.
BY MAIL
Passport Canada Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada Gatineau QC K1A 0G3 CANADA
BY COURIER
Passport Canada 22 de Varennes Building 22 de Varennes Street Gatineau QC J8T 8R1 CANADA
DO NOT mail or bring your application to a Canadian government office in the USA. However, passport applications and related forms are available from these offices.

it doesn't make any differentiation about where you mail it from as far as I could tell, just about what method you use to mail it. So I took it to mean that it doesn't matter if it comes from the US or Canada. So my parents are gonna take care of it for me in Canada. smile.gif

I have no idea where "home" is so pay no attention to what I just said if you have to fly, though. Unless you can fly to a US border and drive across.
