The TSC hasn't worked on any petitions since last year, they've been forwarding them to the CSC. Same goes for the NSC.

Reinhard, were you just worried that the officials wouldn't recognize the letter? Because I had no trouble at all using mine.

Yes, I was worried that the Ethiopian officials and/or the Ethiopian airline crew would have trouble with this expired green card + extension letter deal. I wouldn't have been worried if she was going to Canada or Western Europe. But she's heading to Ehtiopia. If you had been there - as I have - you'd be worried too. yes.gif

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionaffadavits from friends or family, which is better....
If you are going to include affidavits, yes, they need to be notarized. There has been much discussion in this forum about "to notarize or not" and "to include them or not", I humbly advise to go searching for those threads and you will get lots of information.

You will get the advice here that if you have a ton of evidence, affidavits aren't necessary. Personally, I included them as another piece of the puzzle, so to speak. The ones I included were from our pastors at church (husband/wife team) and friends.

check current processing rates for CSC. If I remember correctly, if you are issued a card without an interview, it's currently a couple months wait after biometrics.

I have never been asked to show my green card by the airlines. Is that a normal thing for them to do? I always assumed that the only people to worry about if they knew what the extension letter looked like were the actual US Immigration/Customs peeps.

I'm pretty sure hubster has been asked to show his greencard (not all the time though) and I'm reasonably sure he also had to show the extension letter on the way out, but it was just a glance kind of thing.

interesting. all I have had to show to the airline people was my passport. The green card was for the POE.

hello,

I was thinking travel with my wife to Canada this weekends, her GC will not expire until December. With the new rule regards to Passport to travel. Do we need a letter from the USCIS to ensure a safe return to the U.S? I see that you mentioned letter but was not sure what type of letter need.

if you can direct me to a site or instruct where I should obtain such documents for travel.

cheers

US citizens don't currently need a passport to go to Canada. The letter I am talking about is the NOA which extends an expired green card for one year. You use it to travel after you've applied for the lifting of conditions. If your wife's GC is valid until December, that is all you need to travel (and her passport).

They do if they are travelling by air. Right now until September 30th, exceptions are being made due to long processing times -- you have to provide proof that you have applied for the passport and they will let you on the plane (with other photo ID, of course). By January 1 of next year, a USC will need a passport to travel to Canada by land, air and sea.

Silvanski, can you do a favour for future reference? (pretty pretty please!)

I've copied your original evidence list below -- would you mind letting us know what you end up sending as supplementary evidence to the RFE (once you get it all compiled)? I think it would help others in the future.

-2 year GC (both sides)

Documents with various dates, showing cohabitation during the past two years:

-TX DL of me and my wife, showing identical address
-Joint Tax returns
-Retirement plan and health and term life insurance through my job, showing my wife as beneficiary
-Joint bank account
-Joint car insurance
-Mail adressed to both of us
-Joint 'Sam's Club' account

From what I have seen so far in regards to RFE's at this stage of the game, they usually want more in the "prove mingling of assets/liabilties" area. I'd gather everything you can, maybe write your wills if you haven't already, and definitely add some affidavits. smile.gif

QUOTE (yaatri @ Sep 15 2007, 09:00 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The demeanor of the person at the office was also rather unprofessional. If you accompany your spouse for the biometrics, be prepared to wait outside the building on the street while the biometrics is completed (which could take up to an hour or more). I found this treatment to be similar to what one would endure at a US Consulate in a third-world country. I was sorry to see this inside the US.

This is common practice at all district and ASC offices -- they do not allow any extranneous people into the building. If your spouse can understand English, and does not require a translator, then they only let in your spouse and not you. Jerry was only let into the building at OKC for the appointment that he was supposed to attend -- ie. our AOS interview.

Many just wait until the passport needs to be re-newed to get name changed in it, or they visit passport office while overseas and some countries will amend the passport showing other name used.

You can travel fine with a passport with maiden neme, and are not required to get it changed.

To travel with maiden name in passport, just book airline tickets in maiden name, airline officials compare passport to the tickets, and if they dont match can deny passage.

Upon re-entry to the USA you use the green-card. Some carry a photo copy of marriage cert to show the name change if anyone asks.

this is exactly what I have been doing, and I haven't had a problem yet. smile.gif

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAdvice on 2 year card renewal....
Form I-751 is the form you need. You will be sending it to Texas, who will promptly transfer you (based on recent VJ'ers experience) to California. Do not fret! This is a good thing for you, as CSC is trotting along very well at the moment. From what I have seen so far, most RFE's during this part of the process are due to either insufficient evidence in general, or insufficient evidence of co-mingling of assets/liabilities. There are many threads in this section discussing lists of evidence, I suggest you take a look at them for ideas. smile.gif Best wishes to you for a smooth process.

what evidence did they request in the RFE? From what you have written, it sounds like you were light on the financials (which is their favourite RFE, by the way, they usually ask for more on the mingling of assets/liabilities) and heavy on the extranneous.

RFE's suck, but hey, at least we get a second chance to convince them. smile.gif

QUOTE (BigPhil65 @ Oct 17 2007, 10:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
OK. I made a mistake on my wife's I-751. I actually wrote the wrong year on my check. 2008 instead of 2007. They sent the whole package back with the reason "can't accept postdated check."

I totally understand and it was definitely my fault.

Problem is: We filed at the Texas Service Center....but the package came back (with all of the doc's that we submitted) from the California Service Center.
So, do I re-send everything (with the new check) back to Texas?? Or straight to California?? It looks like they went through the files and had made some markings...even clipped all the papers together. The cover letter with the box checked off for post dating the check, has a return address of Laguna Niguel, CA 92607.

I'm thinking of sending it straight to California with their cover sheet and all...even though we live in Texas.

What do you guys think? We have only 6 weeks now until her 2 year conditional GC expires.

Do they give you any indication where to send it back?

Personally, I'd send it to CSC, seeing as they were the ones that sent the package back to you, but that's just me.

SHould I send the 1040s and the tax transcripts if I have both?

Should I send the original of cards I recieved in both of our names? I will send photocopies of everything else (except affadavits). are orginals necessary in any case?

None of my insurance cards will put both of our names on them (vision, dental) Is a letter from my employer ok saying we have joint coverage in these areas? THe insurance companies are not being cooperative on this ...I also have some claims with his and my name and the same group number...

thanks!!!

I personally would send the tax transcripts for the years covering the time you have been married, the letter from your employer, and copies of some of those cards. I don't think I submitted an original of anything, other than the letters of support I got from some friends.
