Yes, A&M, Flames' information is correct. Wis-Can..... not so much. lol

Exactly what is that suppose to mean....the information I gave was correct.

Actually hun it is not correct. You only need one check done, as long as they are able to do A CPIC (Canada-Wide check). Local police as well as RCMP are able to do this.
I've lived in Miramichi, Halifax, and Lower Sackville...I only got my police check done from the local Miramichi police, and they did a CPIC check, thereby running my name through a Canada-wide check.

If you have lived in other countries, you would need checks from them, but not from different towns/cities in Canada.

Well some smaller police stations must not be able to do that without "extra" work on their part then. I was informed by them, that I needed to go through the RCMP if I wanted a Canada Wide one done. This was just a week ago. So it must depend on the police department themselves. I agree you only need one done IF it covers the entire country.

Flames, you said that the Kingston one processes them, right?

First I went to my home town local police department to inquiry, and they told me they could do one, but it would only cover that area to get one through the RCMP and it would cover the country. So I went in to Kingston Detachment of the RCMP yesterday. I called first to make sure I could get one there. The lady told me that you have to come in by Tuesday, in order to pick it up on Thursday. This is the "day" of the week that they are available. You have to have your birth certificate, drivers license and your letter from the embassy that the information is required. They don't just do them anymore, you have to have your letter. She photocopies the letter and the checklist to put with your request. When I first went in I told her that I was applying for a visa and that I would need...and I didn't get it out of my mouth and she said a criminal records check...I said ok, she started to fill out this two page form, and highlighted the areas I needed to fill out and initial, and asked me to do so, then she read my checklist and said, oh its not a criminal records check you need but a police clearanace certificate, two entirely different things! I just looked at her and said, I acutally didn't say what it was, you said criminal records check and I assumed you knew what you were talking about when I told you it was for a US visa. So after all that, I pick up what I need on Thursday. Hey Stiggy, you'll be so prepared when you get to this point!! Good luck.

Yes, if you are going through individual police stations (local police) you will need one from each place you lived. However, with the RCMP there Police Clearance Check covers the entire country. For people in Canada its best to go through the RCMP. FYI for others, a Criminals Records Check and the Police Clearance Check are two different things I found out today when I went into the office to get mine.

Yup, the letter I received also says 4-6 months, I figured it always had said that, and they just book then realistically between 2-4 months. I think they do that to cover their you know whats.

That's good news about the DS160, they let me continue without a photo, but when I got to the end I still had no choice but to upload one or else it was incomplete. So maybe they were having too many issues with it and changed their guidelines, which is much better!

Thanks for the heads up!

That is interesting cause the first time I tried on Friday it wouldn't let me complete without the picture, so while I was trying to upload one it booted me out, and then it said it would be down for maintenance and back up Saturday night. Then last night when I went on it let me go all the way through, it wouldn't accept my photo, and it had an option to continue without photo. So it must have been something they were having issues with. I am hoping for the 2-4 months for the interview....we can keep our fingers crossed together!

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I made some changes in the Embassy info page for Montreal. I changed the wait time from packet 3 going back to interview date, it was 1-2 months, on my letter it states that they are currently booking appointments 4-6 months from the date the packet is returned. When I get my packet 4 with interview date back I will see where it falls in the timeline to let others know. Also, the form DS-160 that you have to fill out online, required you to upload an approved photo. It tells you when you upload if its suitable or not, you can continue without one, which I had to do because it wouldn't accept the one I had. It has a confirmation page at the end that you print as well as a copy of the whole form. It says to bring the confirmation page along with a picture for all stages of the process. Just for your info guys.

As much as my sweetie would like to be there, he just can't get the time off work. I'm ok with going by myself. I am having my interview in Montreal, just waiting for packet 4 to arrive now. Good luck!

A friend of mine just went through her Montreal Interview, she asked if she could pick it up the next day and was told no. You could always try and ask. Doesn't hurt I guess. She actually got it in the mail 3 days later so she didn't wait long at all. Good luck!

QUOTE (StaceyG @ Feb 19 2009, 09:16 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My hubby for Valentines Day found the only Timmy's in Indiana and drove us almost two hours to get donuts. The guy there thought I was nuts I was so Happy when I walked in and everything was the same as a Canadian Timmy's. I have found other places like McDonalds, or Subway tastes different have differences, but not my good old Timmy's. We ended up leaving with a dozen donuts, and a box of Timbits( that they call donut holes =/), and a couple cans of Hot Chocolate. It was the best V-day ever cause I was getting very homesick.

How Sweet!! My honey thinks we're all Tim Horton Nuts here in Nova Scotia when he first came to visit. By the 2nd trip, it was, "hey, aren't we stopping at Timmy's?"

CanadaWhy does it have to hurt so much?
Oh I'm so sorry to hear about Sam. Sounds very similar to what happened to my Elvis. I couldn't bare to have him in pain so I had to make the same very difficult decision. Its amazing how attached we can get to our pets, they are members of the family. I am sure Sam is at Rainbow Bridge, painfree and looking down on you. I'm sending you a hug..take care.

The Interview for us canucks is 99.999% of the time PAINLESS!! 99.99% of the tiem at interview, they do not even ask for evidence (pictures, letters, etc) Lucky if the interview lasts 10 minutes, and majority of that time it is silence, just the interviewer looking over your paperwork. Lot of my interview time was spent talking about where the interviewer had been posted. The people that seem to have problems are the ones with over stays, or have had DUI's or other criminal problems that require waivers!

How do they track overstays from Canada when passports aren't stamped on entry to the US? Do they ask questions about stays and lengths of stays?

My passport has been stamped with every entry into the US that I have made.

CanadaWhat's your favorite restaurant in USA ?
My favorite restuarant, well we really haven't done a whole lot of diningout. I love to cook. But Friday's nights in Wisconsin are popular for fish frys. My poor sweetie kept ordering all these different fish meals, but I didn't care for any of them. Kinda hard to sell a girl from Nova Scotia on farmed fish from Wisconsin. Even the haddock didn't taste like the haddock here. He made up for it though, he took me to a Golf Course Club House near where he lives in Wisconsin, that's called X TO C and we had the best chicken dinner I have ever tasted in my LIFE! I can't wait for him to take me back there. So if your ever drive by you gotta try it! good.gif

no, they didn't. That's the same page i have..i had called
Dr. Howard Seiden & Associates, the one in montreal.
which they gave me a number to contact, but
when i called, the clinic said that they didnt do that exam
here. Which completely confused me, why would they
give me a number that wouldn't help me out.

I have no idea! Glad they sent you the right list though. You might try calling again and see if you can speak to someone else there, perhaps that particular staff wasn't aware that they do them. If you still get the same response, please tell them that the "clinic" says they don't do them either, and see what they have to say. Perhaps you want to email Mtl. and ask them if there are changes again? Make sure if you email the Consulate that you put your case number in the subject line, and I'd put URGENT on the subject line as well. I believe there is another Montreal Dr. that does the medicals is there not? Medisys Health Group?

Yes your right, Medisys does do them in Montreal. That's where I am going. I didn't try the Seldon one.

CanadaCan I visit with a visa in my passport?
I think its going to be up to the officer at the POE. You might get a "nice" one that will let you through. If your close to a border crossing I would try it, bring your ties to Canada with you. If they tell you no, you'll have to activate your visa well then you can turn around. I'd like to try it as well. My honey is just so busy at work, and I hate leaving my workplace until someone is trained well when I do leave, that I thought I would stay through the busy summer season and go down in the fall. But hope to visit through the summer. I'll have to watch and see how you make out! All the best.

CanadaHow did everyone meet their american/canadian significant others?
My honey and I meet on Farmersonly.com, talked online and on the phone for about a year then he drove the 2000 miles to meet me. Over two years later and many trips back and forth on both of our parts we decided that we wanted more. So we began the K1 Journey back in September. Now we are awaiting packet 4!

CanadaWhat we do to keep our families close
My sweetie is already making plans for the internet, (he didn't have it put in after he bought the new house) and an unlimited long distance package on the phone. My parents are excellent for keeping in touch...we live four hours apart now and I talk daily to them. I am leaving my desktop computer with them and will have to stay with them a couple days before I leave since neither of them even know how to turn it on! So when I'm 32 hours away I can still talk to them daily. My Petie promised me that once I get to the point that I can travel back to Canada we will be going back at least once a year, and hopefully twice. His family is very close and its a large family so he knows how important family is.

CanadaHas your weiner consumption increased? Condiments yes or no?
I have eaten a hot dog since I seen them made! I worked at a pig kill/processing plant. Between that and salami/pepperoni, I can't. They were making Salami and Pepperoni and I said to the guy that's not either, its too pink, then they dumped the buckets of blood in it.....BARF!!! Now they do make no-blood varieties. But that vision, I can't seem to get out of my head.

Its my understanding that its all done on a first come first serve basis. Keeping in mind that some request and are granted exp.service. Some cases end up in AP, some countries are considered high fraud requiring additional processing. This is my spin on it..someone else may have more info on it.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Voluntarily left the US but want to go back
So is the option of him moving to Canada available? Not sure, but maybe that would be easier. I hear ya on the home sick. My poor sweetie I really had some bad days..weeks for that matter. I volunteered at the local hospital so I could at least get out and start meeting people. I finally was able to go to work and started a part-time job that is allowing me to meet new people. Its not easy. I though about going home several times. Hope it all works out for you both.

United KingdomI asked this in the Off Topics section but.....
When I checked into shipping my car it was outrageous, they wanted $3500 to ship from Nova Scotia to Wisconsin. So I am going to put it on a trailer behind a uhaul. I know once I get my vehicle in the states I don't pay anything other then a penalty (duty) if I sell the car before two years is up. I am not sure the same is true for motorcycles though.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWomen, does your spouse help you with finances for the visa process or are you doing it alone?
We just started the process, my honey is the US resident, he paid the initial $455 dollars, and any other money that will need to be paid on his end, but I will pay for my medical, fee at the consulate in Montreal and the expenses in geting to the consulate, airfare, hotel, cabs etc. To me its a 50/50 thing. He's paid for his trips to visit me, and I've paid for all my visits there. When we were at each others homes, we split expenses, groceries, gas, meals out. You sound like you are debating whether you want to be with this man and are looking for someone else to agree. Only you can know that. You should be honest and upfront with him, tell him what your thinking, and your concerns about money. I am concerned that he's telling you he'll send money and it never shows up. To me its a clear indication of what is to come for you. Take a deep breath and step back and really look at what your getting yourself into. I know my honey just bought a new house for us and with the expenses of a new home, I feel like I should be helping him. On the other hand, I too have a household to keep running till we can be together. But I am setting a little aside, now and again to help him. I wish you all the best and be sure to follow your head along with your heart. Take care.
