Hi Poprocks,
Congrats on the house, and like everyone else, can't wait to see pictures!!! I am still in Canada till August. My last day of work is August 20th. I am so worried about missing my family. Right now my niece who's 15 is in the ICU of the province's children's hospital. She was airlifted there a few days ago with an infection in her brain. I keep thinking, what if I was already gone, I wouldn't have been able to come home. Makes me sick to my stomach. Anyways I am rambling. I'm glad things are working out for you. Take care.

I'm so sorry about your niece, Wis-Can. sad.gif I hope she is on the mend really soon. rose.gif

THANK YOU!!

CanadaPassport Photos
Hi there, I know when we got our packet three it stated right in the letter the photo's required, but I laughed because it said US passport photos and listed the measurements 2x2 I think, and then it said, "the same as Canadian Passport photos, which is wrong! Ours are a little bigger. So I emailed the consulate, she said US passport photo sizes, but that not to worry, us and canadian photos have the same size requirements! I went with the US size, and had no problems. Its amazing any of us have any hair left on our heads after this whole process! LOL Good luck and take care.

CanadaHelp?
Thought I would add my 2 cents worth. I have a uhaul booked. Greenwood NS to Antigo WI, around $1300. plus around $900 or more for gas. I called a local tractor trailer company who delivers across North America. They wanted $1800 for 6 pallet spaces. Tomorrow I am going to try United Van Lines. I almost think I am better off to sell my furniture, and just buy new when I get there since I really don't have a whole lot. I down graded when I moved into my much smaller house. Now I am going back to a large house. If you just have a few pieces of furniture you could try the small uhaul trailer to tow.

CanadaQuestion regarding Montreal
I asked about picking it up next day NO was the reply. I didn't like leaving my passport either. But it came a week later or so. It wasn't too bad. At one time she said you could, but they no longer do that. Expresspost mailing only she said.

CanadaPacket 4/interview prep work
I had my medical done at Medisys in Montreal, they have parking in their building, they were the cheapest. Take a book to read as I waited for a while inbetween everything you need to have done. My honey booked my hotel through hotwire, stayed about 20 minutes away from downtown and it cost me $46 US. I had to stay the week in order to do medical and interview. I didn't find the traffic all that bad. I went into the city around 7:30am, and left around 1:30pm. I guess too there was alot of construction going on so traffic was moving slowly so you had time to get in and out of lanes, and thank goddness for the gps!

CanadaMedical exam issue/vent
I have blood pressure issues, three different meds a day. I never have a normal reading...except the day I went for my medical which was hilarious!! I don't think he took it right cause and hour later I took it at a drug store across from the hotel and I got my normal "high" reading. I took a letter from my doctor stating my medical conditions and what meds I took, and they didn't even want to look at them. I went to Medisys too. Your reading is not that bad, mild hypertension I think you would call it. But something worth following up on. You should never fool around with it. It could have probably been that fact that you were worked up. It definately reflects in your reading. My doctor always has me sit for a few minutes before taking mine, then 10 minutes later takes it again. Always gets a different reading. I can't imagine it being enough to stop your visa. Best of luck.

CanadaMedical exam issue/vent
QUOTE (Holliday @ Aug 4 2009, 10:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So I went for my medical exam yesterday in Montreal. It wasn't a whole lot of fun. Perhaps I'll write up a proper review later, but for now I'll just try to stick to some of the stuff relevant to what the problem is. This is still going to be kinda lengthy, and I apologize for that, but I'm just a little freaked out right now and could use some reassurance or advice or something.

I guess for anyone who doesn't want to read the novel below (and I don't blame you!), it all boils down to 2 questions that I have: 1. Any idea if a blood pressure reading of 148/88 could cause a problem for me with approval at the interview? 2. Any idea why Medisys needs a letter from my doctor stating that I'm being "treated" for ADD with amphetamines?

If anyone has any similar experiences or advice to share, I would really appreciate it! smile.gif

Now for the back story...

It all started out okay (relatively speaking), except I was a big old nervous wreck, because well... that's just how I roll when it comes to medical stuff, I guess. And I was especially stressed out because this exam is such a big deal. The first time I had my blood pressure taken, the nurse was pretty surprised (I don't know what the reading was, but I guess it was pretty bad) and asked if I was nervous/stressed, to which I replied "YES!!" So she said she wouldn't record those results on my form and she attached a note to the paper to request that the doctor try again later. I tried to relax, but no dice, I guess.

Later on when I was in the room with the doctor for the actual medical exam part, she asked why my blood pressure wasn't recorded, and I said "there should be a note there. The lady wanted you to take it because it was pretty high because I'm nervous." So the doctor said (nicely) that I'm going to have to relax because they need a good reading, so I said I'd try. She then said that she'd have another nurse try again after, because usually people have worse results with the actual doctor. I guess she changed her mind after the physical exam and she tried the blood pressure again... It was 160/90! Yikes! I swear I was trying to relax, but I guess I suck at it. Especially when someone tells me that I have to relax. So she told me that she was going to send me back to sit in the waiting room and chill, and even nap if I have to, and that I NEED to calm down and then a nurse would call me back in a while and try again using a different type of cuff. She also said that if I don't get a better reading, she'd have to call my family doctor and I'd have to go on blood pressure medication, or something to that effect. I wasn't too concerned about that, because I know that my blood pressure is always higher than it should be, but it's never been THAT high before, and my family doctor monitors it pretty closely and feels that although it's consistently high for someone my age, it's not severe enough to warrant trying to correct it with drugs.

So I went back to the waiting room, and tried to continue to relax. Maybe 15 minutes later, a nurse called me back to try again, using the same type of cuff, but she checked my left arm rather than my right arm. It had dropped down to 148/88, and she said that's better, and it's fine, and to go back to the waiting room and a receptionist will let me know if they need anything else from me. About 10 minutes later, the receptionist called me up and said I was good to go. So I went.

Oh, but we're not done yet. Blah. This morning I got a call from someone at Medisys saying that they need a letter from my doctor saying that she's treating me for ADD (the only "medical" condition I have...) and detailing what drugs I take for it. That's not good news, since my doctor is on holidays for most of the month of August. I do have a letter from her saying that I "have a history of ADD and depression, but have been free of symptoms of depression and stable for at least 6 years" (I grew out of it, luckily) and I "currently only require medication for ADD". To be honest, I'm a little uncomfortable divulging personal details like that on a message board, but perhaps it's relevant to my situation, so there it is. I told the lady from Medysis that my doctor is away so I won't be able to get a letter detailing my prescriptions, and I told her about the letter that I DO have, and she said that is insufficient because it doesn't name the drug I'm on. So I said my family doctor occasionally has given me my prescription for ADD, so perhaps I could get a letter from her instead? The lady from Medisys said that along with the other letter should probably be okay. Of course when I called my family doctor's office, I learned that she's on vacation too! There goes that plan. Bah! So now I'm all freaked out and confused about why this is even necessary, considering yesterday when I was talking to the Medisys doctor, she asked what medication I'm on and I told her and I offered to show it to her, but she said she didn't need to see it. So what's going on then? Eventually I got back in touch with the lady from Medisys and told her that both doctors are on vacation and asked what on earth can I do to give them what I need? Can I fax a copy of my prescription history and some receipts from the pharmacy that show the doctor's name? She said no, and instructed me to fax the letter I already have to her, and that will be fine. Ugh. Will it really be fine? Why wasn't it fine 3 hours earlier? What the heck is going on here?

Anyway, I guess that's my vent. I'm pretty concerned now that I'm going to have trouble at my interview because of the blood pressure issue, and because of this issue with my medications now. For the record, the drug that I'm on doesn't have impact on blood pressure at all, so I don't think my two issues here are related. It's really frustrating, because the doctor yesterday didn't want to look at my prescription bottle, and it was a non-issue to her. What changed? Has anyone heard of similar experiences? Am I freaking out over nothing? Thanks in advance! And again, sorry for the novel.

CanadaHow often do you clean??
OH my, I think I must have OCD. I clean the bathroom probably three times a week, and do a quick whip down daily. All floors get swept daily, floors get mopped twice a week. I only vacuum once a week. I don't have any carpet, YIPPEE! I can't stand dishes in the sink so I am constantly doing them. I dust twice a week. Towels every couple of days, sheets once a week. I do a full house sweep of clutter and stuff left..every couple of days. I am a bit of a clean fanatic I guess. I just like a neat organized house. Thankfully Petie loves that about me. The only man I ever met that puts the toilet seat and cover down!! LOL

I got a shrudge and a "well you got it didn't you" I said I want my $2 bucks back that I paid for a signature request. She said, that's alot of paperwork to fill out for $2. bucks, ...I said you better get started then. I was ticked! I am so glad your ok. Alot of people today do everything but drive behind the wheel. I just crossed September 4th and it went well. I had a detailed inventory of what I had in my car but they looked at it and gave it back to me. They didn't even look at my car. I was very careful to detail everything in there. I asked them when I crossed about the rest of my belongings and told them what I had, a detailed inventory, a form, can't remembered the form #, it was an unaccompanied goods form, I also told them I would fax back my I-94 I think its called to showed that I crossed, and my K-1. I am not sure if I am going to get a mover to do it, or a friend bring it down in a uhaul. I am awaiting my properties to sell. They told me that was perfect. I know each officer will probably have their own version, but I felt better with what I had prepared. Good luck with the move!

CanadaWhat questions are asked at the interview, if you can remember....
wow, you both got asked more questions then I did. It was only about 10 minutes long, and we talked more about Nova Scotia then we did anything else. Asked how we meet, looked at some pictures, when we were getting married, and I think that was it. I can't remember actually too much about it. It was pretty casual and quick. Good luck!

CanadaQuick Question About Age & Montreal Timeline...
Why would you having a birthday change anything? Everyone has them! LOL Its not going to make any difference. Our NOA2 came December 19th I think, and our interview in Montreal was April 17th. We allowed for the Christmas slow down as the reason why our interview was not until April. I used the time to start getting my affairs in order before the move. It seems long because your waiting. Take the time to spend time with family and friends if your the beneficiary and if your the petitioner, get ready for your honey. My sweetie worked on the yard waiting for me to get there. Built me a swing since he knew I was going to miss mine, then he made me a wishing well and filled it with flowers, built some birdhouses and put them around the property. He had all kinds of flowers planted. It kept him busy and passed the time before I got here. Take care and good luck with the interview.

Sorry, don't know that answer to your question, we haven't got that far yet. Just wanted to say hi and Happy Thanksgiving to you! I'm doing a Canadian Thanksgiving celebration here in Wisconsin. His family does a big thing for their thanksgiving in November. Take care, and have a safe trip back with hopefully no problems.

Thanks girl! Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I'm also celebrating my son's 6 year BDay here with my Canadian relatives (his Bday is next weekend) so it's nice for him to have the chance to have a sleep over with his cousins.

I drove from 9pm to 5am this morning and when my son woke up in the car at 4am and saw that we were close, he just about burst from excitment lol...

Actually when we were minutes from the boarder, he said he had to pee...he is already potty trained a long time ago, but I had put a big boy pull up on him, as we were driving 8 hours overnight with no easy access to a toilet and I didn't want any accidents...well he wakes up at 4am and starts saying he has to pee....so being minutes from the boarder, I say, just pee in the pull up...and he was like 'ewh mommy'...so he would not stop whining lol....I said, just close your eyes and make the sound 'psssssss' and maybe it'll come out...so I hear 'PSSSSSS....OH MOMMY I CAN'T....it doesn't want to come out!' so I had to pull off in a Timmy's lot (it was closed) made him stand on the side of the door and told him to pee....well needless to say we finally got the job done....but man what an experience! lol.... It's so hard driving those hours with a young one...I actually do it cause I love driving at night and hate driving daylight hours (I find the sun makes me tired)....the only hard part is when he falls asleep....it makes it harder to stop and take bathroom breaks for myself! When he was smaller, I would just throw him in my arms and run....maybe I should start wearing pull ups! HAHA!

wait where was I going with this again? Oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving lol haha!

Too FUNNY!

They do still show it in the afternoons in Calgary, so he's been recording it to get all the episodes, but they've also done 4 movies but they don't seem to want to air those (although I'm sure they will the second he moves to the states). Was hoping to find someone that might possibly have the movies on dvd or even VHS, and that they might be able to get copies of them for me to surprise him with. Please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Parking is free if you spend $25 bucks in the shopping complex or $16 for the day. Now to get my hotel info from my sweetie! He's looking after that for me. The week long process will end up costing us about $1500. Its my goal to try and get it down to $1300. Hey guys I'll let you know how I do!
