Hi, No he's from Wisconsin, I am from Nova Scotia, Canada. I know we have a long way to go yet, but at least the ball is in motion. I like Wisconsin, reminds me of where I live know with all the farms. I am really going to miss being able to sit by the ocean though.

Well... you could sit in front of Lake Michigan and imagine it's the ocean...?

Too funny, my honey said the same thing..and that he'd throw salt up in the air so I could smell the saltwater air! LOL blush.gif

CanadaWhat am I forgetting?
My honey brings a case of Mountain Dew with him from Wisconsin when he comes to visit because where I live at in Nova Scotia only has caffeine free Mountain Dew and he said it takes gross. I've tasted it here and there, I don't find any difference. I do find a difference in the Mountain Dew at the Fleet Farm Gas Station in Antigo, WI though.... I think that has something to do with the half a gallon of ice, and my large super cup!!! I love ICE COLD pop. Something that's hard to get anymore...the stores always have those coolers that they walk into so I don't find the beverages cold. The gas station is the first place I go to when I hit Wisconsin!

CanadaHotwire and Montreal Hotels
I worked at a hotel/convention facility for 8 years as the Front Desk Supervisor, reservations come through regularily and with some larger hotels, like the one I worked at, it was within minutes of being booked online through a third party. You can call the hotel tonight and say your calling to verify your reservation and give your name and they will tell you if they have it or not, and then just say, and you have me booked for a queen, non-smoking, or whatever it is. If your trying to make changes to your reservation, this time of the night is best. Chances are you get the auditor for the night shift, and not a regular front desk agent and you can make changes easier I have found. I'd have future guests calling all through the day...and you knew they were just checking because they booked online. I have never used Hotwire myself, or any other one that you pay in advance so they may do things differently as far as forwarding reservations. But I can't imagine. Only because you can book up so fast and they don't want to overbook and get caught trying to find you someplace else to stay. Been there, done that! Good luck!

CanadaPackage 3
QUOTE (amberL @ Apr 1 2009, 02:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have been waiting for a week and a half for my packet 3 to arrive by mail, I e-mailed the Montreal Consulate who told me that if it isnt here by Friday they will send out another one. ( mail is only supposed to take 4 days to get to me from Montreal). Anyways I am just wondering is there somewhere where I can find the checklist and the form I need to fill out online so that I can get a start on this and send it back right away since I have already wasted 2 weeks waiting for this stupid package?

I live in Nova Scotia and it took almost two weeks for my packet 3 to come. Snail mail...

CanadaAnyone a gardener?
Container gardening does require maintenance that your not going to be able to give if your not home. They do dry out quickly in the heat of the summer. There are some varieties of hosta's that might work well. The ornamental grasses are nice and come in alot of varieties and look so pretty grouped together. I am an avid gardener myself. Can't wait to get to my new house and start flower beds. Good luck!

CanadaCost of getting something Notarized
When we got our packet 3 in contained the checklist that also had "notorized" I-134 and the form they sent us was one that had to be notorized. So, Peter had it notorized at the courthouse for free. I know the new forms don't need to be, but we figured if that's what they sent us... then we better get it done. I emailed the consulate as well and asked, they replied that if that's the form we got, then that's the one to fill out.

CanadaWhat's the best (cheap) way to move your stuff?
Uhaul will calculate the size of trailer you can tow on their website. I doubt you'll be able to do it all for $500, but the time you get your hitch put on, the cost of the rental and then your gas. Have you checked into one of those plastic luggage compartments that go on your roof. They hold quite a bit of stuff. I think you can rent those as well at uhaul or maybe purchase on second hand on kijiji. Between that and your car maybe you'd have enough room. I'm not sure what I am doing yet. I am looking into a uhaul truck with a trailer to haul my car. Remember your going to need a letter stating that your car meets emission standards before they will allow it in, unless this has changed and you won't be able to sell it for two years without having to pay duty on it. Again this may have changed as well. I checked into the blue book value of my car here and where I am moving to in the US its actually 4 thousand dollars less in the US. Something to think about. GOOD LUCK!

CanadaEnvelope sizes for CR-1 in Montreal
QUOTE (angie007 @ Apr 21 2009, 06:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
is it the 394x314 size? when I was getting ready for my interview I had a hard time looking for that envelope size I thought i doesn't exist, so I had to check hundreds of times what size really they were asking for..went to couple of Shoppers store and I finally found one and it was the last one....

I think they don't have it that much because not too many people use it

Could have been, there really wasn't much difference in the size. I actually had the one they asked for and it was funny because I had it folded in two and she unfolded it and checked the size, and then matched it size wise to the one she had on the wall beside her. I think part of the whole process is to see how many hoops they can make you jump through.

CanadaEnvelope sizes for CR-1 in Montreal
I got the size they requested, but another V'jer who was in Montreal at the same time I was for an interview couldn't get the size requested. I believe it was a bit smaller, but it was the largest the post office she went to carried. They accepted it. It wasn't that much difference in the size.

CanadaMedical Exam
They asked for a copy of my letter from the consulate with the case number on it before they would proceed with my medical. You can always call and ask where your having your medical done at. I believe it is a requirement that they have your case number.

CanadaGood Immigration Lawyers in Montreal?
We went it alone, did our research, asked questions on here. We went from application to visa in about 7 1/2 months. We thought we did well. I read more horror stories about lawyers then good things. But its certainly a decision you have to make for yourself. If your case isn't complicated you should be ok on your own as many people did on here. Read the guides, go through the forums, and ask questions. I think you will be pleasantly surprise. Good luck in whatever you decide. Oh..and welcome to VJ.

CanadaMontreal Embassy Packet 3 Questions...Please Help
QUOTE (domegirl1978 @ Feb 26 2009, 12:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello everyone!

I am from Montreal and my fiance is in Florida. He already received the NOA1 earlier on this month and we are patiently...maybe impatiently at times....lol....waiting for the NOA2.

I have seen many different posts on packet 3 but none that actually come from the Montreal Embassy. The closest thing I have found are the packet 3 checklists from Vancouver.

Does anyone on here have the checklist from packet 3 from Montreal that they could possibly email me or post here.

I was hoping to get a head start on the paperwork. I know some of the paperwork has to be done online throught the embassy itself but its the checklists I'm really looking for.

Thanks in advance!

I have one at home, if no one posts it before I get off work I will do it for you. Mine is from Montreal.

Do you know what else is gross?? And there, all the Canadians are going to yell at me but I'm taking the risk tongue.gif

It's the brown sauce they give you at Swiss Chalet. That kind of tea sauce or I can't even define the taste of it. That doesn't taste good smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

But somehow I've never met one Canadian that doesn't like it

YEAH...finally someone agrees with me...I think that sauce they give you is absolutely disgusting! So now you know a Canada that doesn't like it!! LOL

My honey laughed at me when I made a fried egg sandwich on toast with mustard...its the best!! Then at McDonalds I ordered the McChicken sauce for my fries....to die for! I'm not a big french fry eater...and not really a fan of fast food so I had to do something to make it taste better.

CanadaHow long after your approval did you move to the states?
My sweetie would like me there now, but like you I have lose ends to tied up. Saying good-bye to friends and family being the biggest one. I'm not going to be able to go home for a while. I have properties to sell as well. He makes jokes about me waiting till the last minute to leave...I am hoping to spend my first 4th of July with him. That's our goal. If not..I'll get there when I am ready to go. Its because they are there waiting...and not understanding that you are basically closing your life back in Canada in order to be with them and that's something you don't do overnight. Good luck!

Thanks, lgg,

Yes, it is good to be prepared when you get to the border. If you don't need your evidence, great - but if you do need it and don't have it, well, you will be kicking yourself instead of enjoying a visit with your loved one. Glad you had an easy time.

Good luck with your immigration journey.

I agree totally. one visit they didn't ask to see it from me, the other they did. I got through both times. I almost didn't bring it the second time then I thought, what would it hurt to carry it along! Good luck on your journey.

CanadaWhere are you from in Canada?
Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia and moved shortly after to various places around Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia as my dad worked for Atomic Energy of Canada, we eventually stayed in Port Hawkesbury, right next to the causeway to the mainland of Nova Scotia till I was 17 and graduated. Then I moved to Halifax, NS for a year, then to Amherst, NS for about 12 years then to where I am now in a very small community called Tremont (just outside of Greenwood-which has the Canadian Airforce Base in it). Still in beautiful Nova Scotia. Hey the snowbirds are going to be here on Wednesday to do an airshow for Greenwood's anniversary.

CanadaSkin Care in the USA
I have very sensitive skin, I even tried a couple of the Vichy products but had to stop using it. Now I use alot of the Oil of Olay line and love it. After spending hundreds of dollars trying to find something that didn't make me break out I went on the Olay for you website, answered a few questions and took their recommendations. I figured what the hey, might as well try it. I couldn't believe the difference in my skin. Now I just have to wait till I get moved to Wisconsin and see what its like there. Winters in Nova Scotia tend to dry my skin out, except this year with my Olay, YIPPEE! At least the products are cheaper there then what I pay here. My honey bought me some up at Christmas time.
