CanadaK-1 people waiting for interviews at Montreal
QUOTE (SapphireDreams @ Mar 25 2009, 10:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Not to bring anyone down... just trying to be realistic... almost everyone who has had an interview in the last 6 months or so had to wait at the very minimum 3 months, most people 4 months to get their interview from the date they sent back their Packet 3.

Going for my interview I noticed that there are A LOT of people waiting for these interviews and the sheer amount of time it takes to go through everyone's file and give them all the paperwork is a lot for the amount of staff they appear to have (not that many).

Chances are they will be scheduling the May interviews for people who sent back their Packet 3 in January and possible some February people in the first or second week of April as you'll see there is a pattern with their scheduling.

It will happen soon!! Just give it a couple of months!

When you see other people who sent their packet 3's at the same time who have HAD their interviews or at least scheduled it gets a little depressing. Even more when you call them and they tell you everything is in order, your just waiting a interview date..... I know, there is no rhymn or reason to how they schedule. According to their guidelines you are suppose to be completed from the NVC to Interview within four months. They definately need more staff. Congrats on your visa! You must be so excited!! Take care.

I have been calling 202-663-1225, when I emailed the consulate, this is what I got back. (I copied and pasted from the email)

Your file is at NVC, they book the date, please call them at 603- 334-0700. Regards op1

Which number are you calling?

Wis-Can, THAT is awesome! I've been calling the 202 number and don't ever get much info. sad.gif But, I'm going to try that number tomorrow during my prep time. I hope to hear something... anything!!! Keep your fingers crossed, everyone! good.gif

It was a bust!! After several tries I got through to the number, and I got a very nice lady that said they do not book them. I read her off the email I got from Montreal and she said no, email them back, tell them that its a K-1 that they received back in December and that they do indeed book it. She apologized and felt bad. There are some nice people out there! So I emailed the consulate back and I'll let you know how I make out. Getting a little worried now as to where my file actually is.

I call DOS everyday....then Friday I emailed the consulate and got a "we don't do the scheduling" and gave me a phone number to call. Which wasn't the DOS number that I call daily. I tried the number several times and can never get through. Hopefully we will all get news soon. Dear God you have to wonder how long it takes to schedule an interview. You would think when they decided everything was in order with your file they would book the interview at the same time. Would you not think that would be more efficient use of their time! But I guess if the paperwork goes to Montreal, they must entered it in that its good to go and then someone from another department comes along to book the interviews. It is very frustrating. My poor sweetie, every night when we talk says, "please give me good news babe!" I'm liable to give the man a stroke the day I tell him we have a date!!! Take care.

HAHA! Poor guy! we're the opposite... I freak out and my fiance is calm and says 'it'll happen, we've come this far....' easy for him...he's the one staying put....my whole life is on the line at the Embassy! lol!

What number did they give you? I wonder if i'm calling the right place? maybe the number you have is the dept? DO SHARE!!!! lol! star_smile.gif

^^ I visited after the NOA2 and it was fine. They didn't even ask me anything - not even where I was going or who I was visiting. He just said "Have a nice trip" and sent me along! You just never know with them!

I got my visa today. It's so strange to actually have it in my passport ready to go. I honestly feel like the process went really fast in hindsight! Now let's hope June 20th comes just as fast!

WOW! How exciting!!!!!

My lawyer did tell me it would be difficult at this stage.... and I did get a few 'extra' questions... he was young... but when I told him that I have full custody of my son and he saw the babyseat in the back... told him my son was on March Break and mom was watching him... it seemed to do the trick... I have a wedding April 18th in Delaware, and I have the invitation, so I hope that will suffice.

I met with my lawyer while down there, and he said that due to my custody arrangement with my ex, I may be able to get my AP fast tracked.... something about attending in person to one of their local offices to complete some form? I hope so, I will even take my son with me, so he can bat his little 5 year old lashes lol! It'll be hard to have to wait 3-5 months... I will be driving to the buffalo boarder and having to pay for a hotel for them to visit sad.gif I really want to make the transition on my son as easy as possible and I really try and support his relationship with his dad...so I hope it all works out.

I feel so weird making all these plans based on no set dates.... i'm giving notice this week on my lease.... i'm hoping to move for the first week of June.... and they do have it noted in their system that our wedding is in June...plus I could just stay at my mom's for a few weeks, it'll save me $2000 in rent! Plus our wedding is not concrete in plans... the two of us are going to the shore in Jersey where we first met and got engaged... and do an intimate ceremony.... then save the obnoxious Big Fat Greek Wedding for the end of the summer lol!

Also, the movers come and take your stuff, take it to their warehouse and then deliver it within a couple of weeks...so if anything, I can kinda use them as storage if needed....

Does anyone else feel that as the time nears, days feel like months and months like a lifetime? it's only a couple months left, and in the grand scheme of the 2 years we waited, it's insignificant.... but it's killing me! crying.gif

We'd like to make plans but I'm scared to at this point. I am putting my place for sale on Wednesday coming. I hope it sells within a couple months. I can stay with a friend till I can move. We sent out packet 3 in January and are still awaiting my Montreal interview date. I call everyday...and everyday they say it looks good, everything is in order, your just waiting on your date. We were hoping for an April date...now its looking like May or June possibly. And your right, every day feels longer then the last. I just want to wake up beside my sweetie everyday. Not alot to ask for I don't think. Good luck on your interview date.

That's scary, cause we sent our packet 3 March 5th (they rec'd it), so if you don't have a date yet, then i'm really worried sad.gif The turn around seemed to be 3 months from P3 to interview for the last little while, but I guess they are slowing down in the spring sad.gif

When I called a few weeks ago, they said we would likely have a May date....but it's not looking too promising....

I hate this part..... everything is so up in the air.... hopefully something miraculous happens and we all get dates before June innocent.gif

Good luck with selling your place. I've had my condo on the market since last July, when we first filed our application for the K1. I have had no lucky trying to sell it.... I am hoping the market is starting to pick up now that it is Spring. This is the last step that is holding me here in Canada and its totally frustrating me to no end.

So I wish you a speedy sale and that you miss the frustration I have been going through Wis-Can. And hopefully you will get your interview date soon.

I am hoping for a speedy sale, and thank you for that. I live in a town where there is a military base so things do move quickly certain times of the year. We are coming up on posting season for the military so there will be alot coming in and leaving. I have a unique property, its actually 3 in total and together. I have a house that I rent out next to me, then I live in a mini home, and then I have almost 7 acres in behind. I bought as one, but they do have separate PID #'s so they can be sold separately. I am going to try and sell them as one. Wish me luck!! I'm going to advertise them as rentals, same as when I bought them. I was going to keep one, but my honey doesn't want me to. All or nothing I guess. All the best to you and I hope you get a buyer soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the both of us. Take care.

CanadaCanada/US Crossing with Vehicle Letter

I've never had a car loan, so I know zero about this, but I do have a question!

When we presented our car at the border for import, when we went to register it in Florida, we presented our car registration - there is no 'title' as such in Alberta - your registration is your title.

So I'm thinking you other canaliens have real 'title' papers?

Is the difference that on some title papers the 'owner' is the lien holder?

Yes Nova Scotia has Title Papers that they give you, (feels like the paper they make money out of LOL) They give it to you and say "This is your title and do not to keep it in your vehicle but in a safe place as you don't need it again till you sell or transfer the vehicle. The Lien Holders name did not appear on mine though. Then they give you a permit , a smaller piece of regular paper that your suppose to keep in your vehicle. Has the same info as the title, but adds your plate number on it. I know the registration they gave me here is Wisconsin was a title, sort of, you tear off the bottom portion to keep in your vehicle. She searched my VIN # and printed off a piece of paper for me to sign, "NO LIENS" on it. I signed as I knew that the next day I was going in to pay off the car. I think its the same thing, just called something else. As when you bring your paperwork into the registry of motor vehicles they say, "oh your registering your car...and then when they give you the paperwork they say this is your title, this is your permit. Have I totally confused you...I almost confused myself writing this! LOL

I believe his car loan was from the dealer. Is there anyone else who dealt with this (i.e. a car loan from the dealer on a car they wanted to import to the U.S.)?

I responded to your post but forgot to click on your posting...its above this one. Sorry

My car had a lien on it when I imported it without problems. The loan was through the dealer. I since paid it off and to my surprise when I transfered the car it showed a clean title and that was before I paid it off. Weird!

You can get iyour odometer switched over which is what I am planning on doing, and they can replace the speed/gauge as well on your dash. For my car is I can actually purchase a sticker like piece of vinyl that they put over what's there now to reverse the Kilo/miles gauge, or I have to option of having the whole thing replaced. I was also told that I will need to keep the car for a period of two years after I enter to avoid paying duty on it. I don't know how accurate that information is.

Behzad, start another thread if you want answers about EI, or there are numerous threads on here now about EI. You'll get better responses. Good Luck!

Hey guys, This is for any of you that have brought your vehicle from Canada to the US. I went down to the GM dealer and ask them for a letter that states the car meets emission control standards for the year it was built. He said well that's just a Vehicle Inquiry Check so he printed me off this piece of paper that has GM Vehicle Inquiry System Summary written across the top. Then it has my vin #, the car description, the original dealer, the warranty info and he pointed to the section that says Service Informational Items and under this section it states Vehicle Has No Current Record of Outstanding Service Information. He said this is what they would want at the border crossing. This doesn't seem right. So I am wondering if I am going to be able to us this...seems to me as it would have to state that it meets emission control standards, he said this is essentially what this says. HELP...what are your thoughts or experiences? Thanks.

Oh and I don't know if I posted in the right section....someone can move it if they need to. Thanks again!

I didn't want to paste the whole previous post but just wanted to mention for Rob and Mel that # of weeks that you are entitled to can change if the applicant is considered a long term employee. If EI hasn't been claimed in a while and you fall in that category it changes the # of weeks and may add an extension on to your claim to enable you to claim some of the extended weeks.

So my EI letter finally came today, I filed September 6th. They just finalized it. Its the normal "cannot pay you benefits as your unauthorized to work" and gives you thiry days to appeal. Do I have to appeal it and say I will send the EAD when it comes, or do you just wait and continue to send in cards and the EAD when it comes? I am sure this has been asked over and over but were up to 71 pages on the EI forum. I'll be ready for old age pension before I'd get through it all! ;)

I just got through to the EI office and talked to Donna. She is such a sweetie. She told me that I just need to keep sending in my cards and that once my EAD comes that I can send it in. I am so excited, because I haven't collected EI in like forever I am classified as a long term employee so I get extended weeks and an extension on the end of my claim. I am hoping and praying that I don't need this and I get a job right away but its a nice safety net.

First EI check came today!

So a question for you all...When I log onto My Service Canada Account...even though my claim has been approved, and my first payment has come through it still says I have no active claim when I log onto SCA. Do residents outside Canada have access to online account information? I know that we cannot do online reporting but its still frustrating!

I couldn't get my service account to work for EI so I called the help line for that page, and was told that I only had a temporary PIN number to call EI and have it changed to one I choose. So I did that through the 1-800 number and still didn't work. So I called the interstate claims office and was told that option is not available to interstate claims.

Hopefully I won't need EI for too long! I have a job interview tomorrow!!! :))))

When I was back in Nova Scotia I would mail something to Pete and it would take 2-3 weeks for it to get to him. I really don't understand what takes so long. We didn't even mail the hoho presents home. Figured we'd take them when we went. I took the box down to the post office and after they quoted $85 dollars we decided they could wait. Canada Post is ridiculous, my parents got their Christmas Card yesterday. I mailed it the first week of December! Its a 6 hour plane ride, and two hours in a car to get to their house..and it takes that long for an envelope to get there. Mind boggling!

My cards are extremely slow coming, I think the last one I sent back was for the 2nd week in November! That was about a month ago now. Doesn't really matter right now that its behind but once my EAD comes I will have to call them and see if they can send me a bunch or process it over the phone.

I called the interstate claims office to talk to them about my claim. She told me to fax to this number 1-613-545-8934. She said if you fax to the other number then it has to be resent to the other office who looks after the EAD's when they come in. Not a hugh deal she said, but it just makes it a little easier and doesn't delay the process any longer then it needs to be. Just thought I would let you all know.

I would highly advise that you get your vacation pay paid out to you before you quit your job. That way it won't be used during that 2 week waiting period AND it will boost your gross income (which in turn gives you a bigger EI cheque)

Just a note, getting your vacation pay before you quit your job does not boost you EI cheque. Its not considered insurable earnings. Most employers, unless your part time don't like to give you your vacation pay unless you actually take the time off.

THIS IS TAKEN FROM THE CANADIAN EI SITE:

Remuneration paid with no hours attached - An employee who receives vacation pay without actually taking any leave does not generate any insurable hours. This also applies to such remuneration as bonuses, gratuities, lieu of notice payments, and retiring allowances.

I've red through a few pages, but didn't really see an answer to my question. I've called the interstate claims office a couple times, each time a different answer. Today I asked out my time passing by as I wait for my EAD. She said the eligable weeks are ticking away as I wait, so if it takes 6 months to get my EAD thats 6 months of benefits gone. Then I asked about waiting time, a week ago they told me I still have to wait the two week waiting period once I got my EAD, plus I would have to wait out the amount of vacation pay I got as well. Which would take a couple weeks plus. Today, I was told I didn't have to wait as I have been waiting for months, and that they backdate to a certain point. A person doesn't know what to believe. I can't seem them backdating as your not eligable to work but I don't think you should lose the weeks, they say its not their fault you can work in the US, I responded, nor is it mine. Anyone actually past the waiting point that can shed some light for me without me having to read page after page after page! LOL Thanks.

I agree. I entered into a marriage with doubts....I'm now divorced two years. With my sweetie, there is no doubts. I can't imagine my life without him. If a person has concerns about the person they are intending to marry its time to seriously look at whether your making the right decision. People get cold feet sure, but.... wacko.gif Some people I guess just look for the negative in everything.

So that's what I'm trying to avoid. If I still feel the same way at the last minute I won't be doing it, theres plenty of time for me to be assured that this is the right thing to do. I don't want to make the same mistake as you did.

I'm glad to hear that. I knew the day I was getting married there was a nagging doubt. I should have listened to that...I choose not too. I made a mistake that I've learned from. I won't make it again. ....your just being realistic...

Why would anyone marry someone if they are questioning the validity of their relationship? Why would someone continue a relationship if they suspected fraud? Why would one get involved with someone from a non US country it they are fearful of fraud? Did you meet this woman online? Now, who has their head in the sand? Seriously.

Its been a while since I've posted. We will be filing my removal of conditions on December 13th and I have a question. My Canadian Passport expires I think June 12, 2012. I know I have to send a copy of it along, should I get my new passport before we file with a longer validity date or does it even matter? I just planned on renewing my passport in March when I went home for a visit. My 2 year greencard expires March of 2012. Thanks for any help you can share.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCase Status Not Showing
Thanks so much, I was using the wrong number. My NOA came the same day as the biometrics appointment and I only noticed the one WAC# and I guess I assumed they were the same. I just checked it again with the other number and it shows initial review. yippee!! Thanks again.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCase Status Not Showing
Hi everyone,
I filed my paperwork for removal of conditions back in December. I had my biometrics on January 18th. I still can't see my case online when I enter my WAC#. Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionApproved!
Happy to report that my 10 year greencard has been approved! We filled in mid-December and approved May 24th, 2012. I went on the website for immigration status updates and it still shows "initial review". My greencard should arrive shortly. My dad is in the hospital with a suspected heart attack, they are still running tests, so it was a little bit of appreciated good news!
