I'll stand my ground .. it was not to be insulting ... just looking for info. I've noticed there is an active group of people from the PI that posts ... and decided to toss the question out where I stood a good chance of getting an answer and/or discussion. If you've noticed my posts on vj (and I make a lot) ... I may tease, yet I tend to draw the line and not be insulting (unless I know you ... then you are fair game ... and I expect the same in return tongue.gif)

I never said you were insulting, I just stated that sub-forums are not immune to insulting threads....

And I don't pay attention to how many post an individual makes or could care less what their member status is on this board as it just shows you how long they've been a member or how much of their time they spend on this forum... don't get me wrong, I know some people spend lots of time on here helping people out.. but I don't have as much time as others do... speaking of time.. I need to hit the sack.. need to wake up early for work..

Night everyone!!

However, we need to respect people for their own uniqueness, intelligence, loyalty to their country. If Filipinas thinks they are special, I am pretty sure Brazilian or Canadian or Thai's thinks they are special too.

And I also agree that Filipinos are smart and their unusual loyalty to their culture, country and individuality impresses me.

the big question is .... will people ever learn?

And the answer to that is a BIG H-E-L-L N-O.... you can not make people learn what they chose not to learn. You can only educate them and let them make up their own mind.... that's what's great about being an 'individual', you have the right to agree or disagree...

sun rise ... use google and you will know when it is ... blush.gif

as to the question ... there were multiple people involved and I brought the question out of OT and into a forum where others who would be seriously interested could join in. If I wanted to be insulting ... I would have posted the tread in OT ... not here to bring the topic off-line.

there was no flame war intended ... why do people keep promoting that statement? wishful thinking?

No need to use google, I know the sun rises 2/hrs earlier than here in the Northwest.. yes.gif blush.gif Not everyone that post in this forum is posting from the Philippines... wink.gif
And just because you didn't post it in OT doesn't mean it can't be insulting... and if you really wanted to bring the topic off-line, you would of PM LastChance like I stated earlier as then no one esle would have to see your topic(hence the meaning of off-line)..

Have a good morning Natty cool.gif

NEW OFFICE POLICY - EFFECTIVE October 27, 2008 sad.gif

Dress Code:

1) You are advised to come to work dressed according to your salary.

2) If we see you wearing Prada shoes , Versace dresses and carry a Gucci bag, we will assume you are doing well financially and therefore do not need a raise.

3) If you dress poorly, you need to learn to manage your money better, so that you may buy nicer clothes, and therefore you do not need a raise.

4) If you dress just right, you are right where you need to be and therefore you do not need a raise.

Sick Days:
We will no longer accept a doctor's statement as proof of sickness. If you are able to go to the doctor, you are able to come to work.

Personal Days:
Each employee will receive 104 personal days a year. They are called Saturdays & Sundays.

Bereavement Leave:
This is no excuse for missing work. There is nothing you can do for dead friends, relatives or co-workers. Every effort should be made to have non-employees attend the funeral arrangements in your place. In rare cases where employee involvement is necessary, the funeral should be scheduled in the late afternoon. We will be glad to allow you to work through your lunch hour and subsequently leave one hour early.

Bathroom Breaks:
Entirely too much time is being spent in the toilet. There is now a strict three-minute time limit in the stalls. At the end of three minutes, an alarm will sound, the toilet paper roll will retract, the stall door will open, and a picture will be taken. After your second offense, your picture will be posted on the company bulletin board under the 'Chronic Offenders' category. Anyone caught smiling in the picture will be sectioned under the company's mental health policy.

Lunch Breaks:
* Skinny people get 30 minutes for lunch, as they need to eat more, so that they can look healthy.

* Normal size people get 15 minutes for lunch to get a balanced meal to maintain their average figure.

* Chubby people get 5 minutes for lunch, because that's all the time needed to drink a Slim-Fast.

Thank you for your loyalty to our company. We are here to provide a positive employment experience. Therefore, all questions, comments, concerns, complaints, frustrations, irritations, aggravations, insinuations, allegations, accusations, contemplations, consternation and input should be directed elsewhere.

If you thought your company policy was bad, check out what I got today.... blink.gif
NEW EMPLOYEE POLICY - EFFECTIVE October 27, 2008

As a result of the money budgeted for department areas, we are forced to cut down our number of personnel. Under this plan older employees will be asked to go on to early retirement, thus permitting the retention of younger employees who represent our future. Therefore, a program to phase out our older personnel by the end of the current fiscal year, via retirement, will be placed into effect immediately.

This program will be known as SLAP (Sever Late-Aged Personnel).

Employees who are SLAPPED will be given the opportunity to look for jobs outside the company. SLAPPED employees can request a review of their employment records before actual retirement takes place. This phase of the program is called SCREW (Survey of Capabilities of Retiring Early Workers).

All employees who have been SLAPPED or SCREWED may file an appeal with upper management. This is called SHAFT (Study by Higher Authority Following Termination)

Under the terms of the new policy, an employee may be SLAPPED once, SCREWED twice, but may be SHAFTED as many times as the company deems appropriate.

If an employee follows the above procedures, he or she will be entitled to get HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel's Early
Severance) or CLAP (Combined Lump-sum Assistance Payment), unless he or she already has AIDS (Additional Income from Dependents or Spouse).

As HERPES or CLAP are considered benefit plans, any employee who has received HERPES OR CLAP will no longer be SLAPPED or SCREWED by the company.
Management wishes to assure the younger employees who remain on board that the company will continue its policy of training employees through our Special High Intensity Training ($HIT). This company takes pride in the amount of $HIT our employees receive. We have given our employees more $HIT than any company in this area. If any employee feels they do not receive enough $HIT on the job, see your immediate supervisor.

Your supervisor is specially trained to make sure you receive all the $HIT that you can stand.

What do the letters say, are they duplicates? If they're duplicates, maybe someone was having too much fun printing out letters.. blush.gif

What your fiance should do is give NVC a call and find out why he got 3 letters.. only they can answer your question as to why 3 letters were sent..

I just got my NOA2 notice by email and now waiting on NVC for my letter, so not sure if 3 is norm, as I understand it should only be 1 letter unsure.gif

PhilippinesWhat are the advantages of Dual Citizenship?
QUOTE (chris4gretchen @ Dec 2 2008, 10:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Was your mother or father a philippine citizen? did they become US citizen? then they are deemed to have not lost their Philippine citizenship. (RA 9225, which took effect on 17 September 2003, declares that former natural-born Filipino citizens who acquired foreign citizenship through naturalization are deemed not to have lost their Philippine citizenship under conditions provided in the Act)

If yes to the above... then are you born in USA but from Philippine citizen? If yes, then you can apply for Philippine citizenship since you are born of philippine citizens in another country. You dont have to apply as a foreigner. The applying and being under 18 and unmarried is if your parents lost their Philippine citizenship and are not currently Philippine citizens.

i think you should talk to your parents and find out what is their Philippine status. That will give you your status. You can also contact a Philippine Immigration Attorney.

Chris

Hay nakoh, like I stated b4, this topic has been debated to death. And it's not fair to the OP to knock her thread off track.. but just to clarify and my last post on this subject....

For the record, I was born a Filipino citizen, and lost my citizenship after I got naturalize(hence, I was NEVER a US Citizen), so @ this point, doesn't matter what my parents status is, as I'm over 18 and can't fall under them even if they decide to apply for dual citizenship.

When you take the Oath for US Citizenship, you renounce any citizenship you have to your former country. RA9225, allows me to take the oath(without renouncing my citizenship to the US) and gain my Filipino citizenship back AND keep my US Citizenship as well, hence this Act is for DUAL citizenship, not for a forienger or a Filipino who NEVER was a Filipino citizen to begin with to gain DUAL citizenship or just become a Filipino citizen.

Please read RA9225 more carefully as the OP was asking the benefits to DUAL citizenship. The Act I posted was a means for someone who lost their Filipino citizenship thru naturalization to regain it by means of dual citizenship. We can both agree this Act is not for a foreigner trying to get Filipino Citizenship blush.gif

Off-Topic2.gif For the OP, as stated in RA9225, these are the benifits of Dual Citizenship:
What rights and privileges will dual citizens enjoy?

Those who retain or reacquire their Philippine Citizenship under RA 9225 shall enjoy full civil and political rights and be subject to all attendant liabilities and responsibilities under existing laws of the Philippines and the following conditions:

Those intending to exercise their right of suffrage must meet the requirements under Section 1, Article V of the Constitution, Republic Act No. 9189, otherwise known as “The Overseas Absentee Voting Act 0f 2003” and other existing laws.

Under the Act, the right to vote or be elected or appointed to any public office in the Philippines cannot be exercised by, or extended to, those who are candidates for or are occupying any public office in the country of which they are naturalized citizens and/or those who are in active service as commissioned or non-commissioned officers in the armed forces of the country which they are naturalized citizens.

Those seeking elective public office in the Philippines shall meet the qualifications for holding such public office as required by the Constitution and existing laws and, at the time of filing of the certificate of candidacy, make a personal and sworn renunciation of any and all foreign citizenship before any public officer authorized to administer an oath.

Those appointed to any public office shall subscribe and swear to an oath of allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines and its duly constituted authorities prior to their assumption of office; provided, that they renounce their oath of allegiance to the country where they took that oath.

Can I now acquire land and other properties or engage in business?

As provided for under the 1987 Philippine Constitution, a Filipino citizen is entitled to purchase land and other properties and engage in business. There is no limit in terms of area or size of land or real property he/she could acquire/purchase under his/her name. This right would now apply to former natural-born Filipinos who have re-acquired Philippine citizenship under RA 9225.

Can I now reside in the Philippines without having to apply for entry visa?

Former natural born Filipinos who have re-acquired Philippine citizenship may now reside in the Philippines continuously without having to apply for entry visa. If the foreign spouse and/or child wish to also reside permanently in the Philippines, they may opt to apply for naturalization as a Filipino citizen or apply for a permanent resident visa.

If he/she does not wish to reside permanent in the Philippines, he/she could visit the country as a Balikbayan (refers to a Filipino citizen who is out of the country continuously for at least one year). The foreign spouse or child may enter the country and stay for up to a year visa-free provided the spouse or child is accompanying or traveling with the Balikbayan when the Balikbayan goes home to the Philippines.

As a dual citizen, how long can I stay in the Philippines?

Having reacquired your citizenship, you can stay in the Philippines for as long as you want without having to pay an immigration fees. You can even choose to retire or permanently settle back in the Philippines. As a Filipino citizen, you are subject to duties and other obligations imposed on other ordinary Filipinos, such as paying the necessary community tax residence and other tax liabilities in accordance with the tax laws of the Philippines.

Will I now be required to pay income tax and other taxes? Am I exempt from paying the travel tax?

In accordance with existing laws, income earned in the Philippines is subject to the payment of tax. Filipinos who re-acquire citizenship and opt to reside and work in the Philippines will pay the income tax due at the end of each fiscal year. They are also subject to other obligations and liabilities, such as the community tax and residence tax.

Countries routinely forge bilateral agreements in order that their respective citizens who earn income overseas do not pay income tax twice.

Filipinos who have re-acquired citizenship, as long as they reside permanently overseas, also enjoy the travel tax exemption extended to Filipino citizens permanently residing in other countries, the OFWs and their dependents.

As a dual citizen, am I allowed to practice my profession in the Philippines (e.g. doctor) ?

Under the law, those intending to practice their profession in the Philippines shall apply with the proper authority for a license or permit to engage in such practice.

QUOTE (iahmjpinoy @ Nov 30 2008, 10:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Isn't an American, a citizen of the United State of America, regardless of where they came from? I was a natural born Filipino Citizen but became an American/US Citizen by naturalization, so I no longer can own a certain amount of land, do certain business, etc.. unless I get my dual-citizenship back.. I'm an American/US Citizen, but my nationality is Filipino... so, if your Filipino spouse becomes an American Citizen, then she also can't own property as you stated..

Youre confusing two different things. If you are a US citizen who has filipino parents, or became a US citizen and lost your Philippine citizenship etc etc then you can get your Philippine citizenship back because you had it at some point, even if only from your birth status (example, one of your parents are from the Phils, but you were born in the USA where they were at the time. thus you are US citizen and can have Philippine citizenship also).

This is true as long as the Filipino parent is still a Filipino Citizen @ the time of birth.. The requirment is that 1 parent still had to be a Filipino citizen at the time of your birth... This law RA9225, is geared towards filipino's who lost their citizenship thru naturalization:
RA 9225, which took effect on 17 September 2003, declares that former natural-born Filipino citizens who acquired foreign citizenship through naturalization are deemed not to have lost their Philippine citizenship under conditions provided in the Act.

If you(non-Filipino nationality) and your wife(filipina nationality) are both US/American citizen @ the time of you childs birth, then he/she cannot get dual citizenship, unless your wife(filipina nationality) applies for dual citizenship and the child is still under 18, can be included and get his/her dual citizenship as well..
According to Section 4 of RA 9225 (Derivative Citizenship), the unmarried child, whether legitimate, illegitimate or adopted, below eighteen (18) years of age, of those who re-acquire Philippine citizenship under this Act shall be deemed citizens of the Philippines.

A married child, although a minor, cannot therefore be included in the petition of his/her parent.

Children 18 years old and over do not qualify to acquire Philippine citizenship under RA 9225. They have the same options that are open to the foreign spouse

If you are not born of Filipino parents and you are a US citizen such as myself, who married a filipine citizen, there is no way for me to become a Philippine citizen unless the Philippine Congress acts to declare me one which is extremely rare. Just marrying a Filipino/filipina will not give you any options to attain citizenship in the Philippines, unlike here in the USA. There is a procedure for foreigners to become a citizen. There is no procedure in the Philippines for that.

So if you have Filipino heritage and can prove it , you can regain your citizenship there. If you were born somewhere else and you dont have filipino heritage in you, then you cant be a Philippines citizen. Unless Congress votes to enact and gift you citizenship.

This two statements above would be false according to the remark I just posted above, even if you are of Filipino decent, if you were never a Filipino citizen under one of the circumstances above, you would have to apply like any other foriegner or have your parent that was a former Filipino citizen apply and include you in the petition if your under 18.. That whole RA9225 has to be fully read to understand how/who can qualify for dual citizenship(Filipino)

Unless I've missed something in that act, please point it out, as it is rather long to go thru, as you stated, your confusing two different things.. Let me clarify what I meant in my previous post: An American is a description of a citizen of the United States of America, regardless of their nationality.
