I believe I'm the last one who did that.

Indeed after getting packet 3 u need to send them back DS230 part 1 and DS2001 (that's the checklist). nothing else.
it take them about 10 days/ 2 weeks to send back NOA4, in which they give the date of the interview (that is probably going to be another 2 weeks after NOA4).
then at the interview he'll take with him everything else that's on the list (+ photos, enveloppe gonflable). regarding evidence they didn't ask any. the consul just asked me questions about our relationship. Oh and I changed the check list on VJ last week. it was mentioning I864 instead of I134. it is I134 they need, as u wrote.

well, I'm running to the consulate to re-do finger print right now!

bon courage!

hello again, it's me smile.gif i have yet another question. i think i mentioned before that my fiance and I are trying to prepare for packet 3. will anyone with recent experience please let me know - which forms need to be returned to the consulate right away in packet 3. The embassy section in VJ list Check lists

DS-2001
DS-230 part I
DS-156 (x2)
DS-156K
DS-157
I-134 (to be filled out by the US citizen)
Oath

I know that the checklist and DS-230 have to be sent to the embassy right away to receive packet 4 but do we have to send I134, the police certificate, my fiance's passport, passport style pictures etc. to the embassy before we get packet 4 or does my fiance bring that info to the interview? Please help. If my fiance needs this info right away then i'll mail it to him tomorrow.

one more question, how did it take the embassy to send you packet 3 after the embassy received your case?

merci!

they said I should go back early Tuesday morning and tell the guard that they called me to come back for finger prints..
I mentioned my flight reservation which is Tuesday 30th.. I'll see on Tuesday with the Consul. I'm gonna try to arrange going back to the consulate myself to get the passport in hand instead of loosing time with the chronospost.. I hope they will consider this option. Otherwise I can only imagine myself missing my flight on the 30th and getting the chronopost on the 31st... ( crying.gif )

My fingers are #######. You can hardly see the print when looking at it... there's not much I can do about it...

I'll keep u posted..

hello

just wanna say my interview went ok!
I had the I864 instead of the I134 (supporting evidence) but it seems like it wasn't too much of a problem..
the consul was nice. She didn't ask for proof of ongoing relationship (pics, bording pass etc.). her main questions were: "who is your fiancé" "how did u meet", "when will u get married". now I'm hoping to get my passport back before the 30th (yeah I've already booked my flight:p).
I got there at 12.45 and left at around 3.30. when I arrived about 60 people where waiting in the hall it was pretty impressive.

So our 9 month K1 journey is about to end and we're soon to join the AOS one !!

thanks for all your advice in this process, I'm sure I will need your help in the very next future too smile.gif

I have a question though concerning poudre d'amande. It doesn't exist here in the US. what is the best thing to do: cut almonds in tiny pieces with a knife or buy what it's called "almonds paste"??

Hello again my fellow France/America couples! I need your help. My fiance and I just received the NOA2. (woo!!! - I feel like my life can move on now) We're assembling all the paperwork for Packet 3 and the interview. On the VJ Paris embassy page it says that my fiance will have to submit a letter stating that he has not served in the military. Where do we get this from? Please help. Thanks!

Hi !

I had the same question a couple of weeks ago:) It depends on his age cause the regulation has changed. If he is young enough he didn't have to do the full "service militaire" (that is I believe if he was born after 1978) then he probably did "la journée d'appel". He shall have a document saying he did. Lucie's advice was to copy the law explaining the "service national" regulation. He can find it on the legifrance website : http://www.legifranc...eTexte=20081204 then go to the left to see the entire regulation (especially chapter 2 : champ d'application).

So as a man I would try to bring :
1/ the document saying what I did (service nationale or journée d'appel). I'm sure he can ask for a copy to the autority in charge if he has lost it. His town hall can probably help him with this.
2/ a copy of the regulation

bon courage and congratulation for NOA2!!

I will try to fly on January 20th, at least that's what I told them at the embassy, since I want to spend the holidays with my family and then I have to ship my stuff to the US (I still need to find a solution for that...) and say goodbye to everybody.

To ship all my stuff, I can even say all my life, to the US. I did it with a company called "bagage du monde". I used a huge "malle" full and heavy for 250 euros I think. You can choose the date you want it to arrive at the airport and U just have to pick it up when you arrive.

Good luck!

Oh, and just to give you an advice... don't loose the key of the malle like I did. Damon had to use a hammer to break the lock!

Oh yes I can find Nutella, but have you tried it? It doesn't taste the same wacko.gif The receipe is different (checked the back) and being in a plastic jar vs. glass doesn't help either.
A jar of American Nutella can stay months in my cupboard without me touching it. A French one is gone in days or weeks.

we're gonna do the courthouse wedding in the US on January, and then a party in France next Novembre with our families and friends. But they will be no official ceremony in France since the mariage will have already been reckognised by the France autorities (consulate in DC).

well, I keep u posted on how the interview goes.

Congrats on the interview date! That is pretty quick.

If I were you, I don't think I would do it. The work authorization is for three months only. Your first goal is going to prepare your wedding and get settled down. A month might have passed by, by then. The economy sucks so if you want to work just for money, you will most likely get minimum wage.
Let's say you make $7.5 an hour and get (lucky!) 40 hours a week. You are looking at $1200 a month, after taxes you might come to $900. So with the two months left on your work authorization, you have officially made $1500 ($1800-$300)!!
It seems a whole lot of nothing for a whole lot of effort.
But no, I haven't done it.
You are only getting married once, enjoy it! smile.gif

Hi everyone!

I hope you gus\ys are all doing well...

I have a quick question...My boyfriend and I are seriously looking into the option of getting married but I was wondering what is the fatest way. Is it to go through to the K1 visa ( i'll prefer to do that but my SO is more for the other option). or to get marry while visiting him and then adjust the status? With the K1 visa or what is the average time to get the paper to be able to work??
To be completely honest, I'm kinda lost with all the process..but we have VJ thank god for that! My boyfriend and I are having a very hard time to be away rom each other and because of my job I don't even know if i'll be able to go and visit him anytime soon cray5ol.gif but you guys all know that very well...anyway I was just wndering..thanks and best of luck for everyone in the process of getting the papers!

I'm actually replying to my own message but I think I'll prefer to go on the K1 road, the avergae time of doing the paper works takes approx 6 to 8 months if everything goes smoothly..

One last question because the answers aren't clear on the whole website. Are you allow to visit your SO for a couple of weeks while waiting for your K1 visa?

I did it twice using the waiver program, that is just filing the I 94 form at the custom. but u can never say for sure that they're gonna let u in. They tend to ask a lot of questions once they find out you come to see your boyfriend/fiancé. They want to check that you are not going to use your tourist visa to imigrate. Last time the officer asked me if I intended to get married with him while in the US so I told him I was processing a K1 and visiting meanwhile. Once the officer was very sceptical I had to tell the whole story of how we meet, what I was doing in Niger (I was then living there), why I was arriving in DC when the address on the form said I was gonna stay in North Caroline (we were visiting his family) and so on. They tend to be very nice with me when I end up saying he is a Irak veteren. I think it's very unfair but well.. it helps!
anyways.. it smart to travel with a copy of your NOA1 or NOA2 if you have it.

I'm going again next week for thanksgiving smile.gif

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusWhere in U.S Consulate in Saint Petersburg do i find the next set of forms for my fiance?

When you get the NOA2. You can get your employer's letter now and predate a new Letter of Intent.
Also the free tax transcripts from the IRS for the last three years ought to be done now.

She, can begin to check out the forms she will need to complete (or you can do them for her and send them in a package along with your forms at the appropriate time....we did this).

I just checked your timeline....you guys have many months of waiting, concentrate on your relationship and discuss how her life will be so different here, finances, English, classes, learning to drive, what kind of jobs she may even have a remote shot at, etc.

those are some good ideas, thank Baron555, you are very helpful! she is currently working on her "specialist" degree, its a 5 year one, in between a BA and a Masters. In Wine Making a Brewing, she also is getting a second diploma in English. Her English is not bad at all, as with everyone it has room for improvement. I was actually thinking when she first gets here, since she already has a SS from the J-1 enrolling her in some sort of Communication class just so she can get submerged in talking English A lot. I forgot to note that she is almost finished with that degree, all things considered she will be done before this process is complete, the bringing her here portion not the change in status and marriage part.

If she gets an international drivers license just before she comes here, will that still be valid for her to drive on?

Nope, they will figure out what is correct and send the documents to the correct Embassy. Get your interview documents together, you have some to send her and she has some to complete there.....all are found on the Embassy website....note that the DS-156K form is and must be completed in Russian and is only available from the Moscow Embassy website.
Police certs? Are you going to attend the interview? You can now!

I probably will not be able to attend the meeting, but that is something I will look into a little way down the line. "note that the DS-156K form is and must be completed in Russian" that form must be completed in Russian by me or her? when do you think is a good idea to complete these forms?

Alright, I spoke with her about it,so now she knows. I am probably going to get an RFE then, because the address of the consulate i put down on the letter of intent was the Saint petersburg consulate :\

thanks for the info everyone, this place is such a valuable resource!

are you sure? STPB has a Consulate, and she has had an interview for her J-1 visa before. Moscow and STPB are a long way for each other.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusWhere in U.S Consulate in Saint Petersburg do i find the next set of forms for my fiance?
I am looking on the U.S Consulate in Saint petersburg Russia's website for the next form, but I really do lack skills navigating websites sometimes haha, where do I begin looking for my fiance's side of things? I want to help her and myself know where to look once it becomes appropriate to start doing that leg of the procedure, I mean I know there are several months before this is even a worry, but Knowing where it is now will help me get a head start when it comes to crunch time.

thanks for everyone's help!! :)

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusWhat to expect now? next stage hopefully in April
Hello all,

So I received my NOA1 a while back, I just checked the USCIS website and it predicts that we will enter the next phase around April time. So I just want to know what I should expect? we applied for a K-1 Visa, my fiance lives in Saint Petersburg, and I have been informed she will have to go to the Embassy in Moscow. What should I do now? I want to be absolutely prepared, so I do not get caught off guard. What forms to fill out for the next stage where to find them? If my fiance gets her interview what should we expect? I was in Saint Petersburg this Christmas and new-year visiting her and her family, and I left her an exact duplicate of the I-129F packet that I had sent to the USCIS, and I have a third copy here in the U.S Just in case, that I can either over night to her or somewhere else if the USCIS needs it.

I had to come on and ask because I keep getting panicky about everything. Any help and advice would be so helpful :)

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusGot the NOA2 What now?

Hey All,

So We got out NOA2, And are wondering....what now?

We have already been on the Embassy in Moscow's Website, filled out and printed off 3 copies of all the paper work, is it me are all 3 of those forms pretty much asking the same question? I and my father have filled out the I-134 A each. In fact the packet (Support packet) I am putting together is 27 Pages long. My I-134A, statement from work, statement from the bank etc, Birth Certificate W2 and 1040, plus the exact same for my father.

So what do we do now? is there something else we need to fill out? is there somewhere we need to call?

Is there anything I can do to better prep my Fiance for her interview?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusOne way or Connection Flights from Rus to US

Hey!

Honestly, I would recommend doing a connecting flight, easier and better. Try  having the connecting flight in Europe, Such as Germany or England. I just got my NOA2 and my Fiance is also from Saint Petersburg. I started looking at Flights for August since I plan on flying there and flying back with her (really expensive!!!) Right now United has deals for stop over in Germany for about 5 hours and then connecting to Polkovo 2 for around 1500 Bucks, not cheap no. But Compared to some who want 2-3K *cough* British Airways *cough* It isnt too bad.

I also looked at flights for her, trying to get a flight back from Russia to DC, A one way trip is 3K while a round trip is only 1300...Why the difference I dont know. However the round trip ticket, has a lay over in Munich for 5 hours and then straight to Dulles International. My Recommendation do a lay over and get her directly to your Airport hub. Personally I feel, though in reality I have none, that having her Arrive in your hub Airport grants you more power. You know that which ever city she arrives in, In the U.S will be her point of entry, so I feel more secure having her point of entry be the place we will actually Live.

Just my two cents, I wish you the best of luck with everything, I know the feeling all to well, most if not all of the people on this wonderful website do. Get your paperwork done ahead of time, go to the Embassy in Moscow's website and fill out the 3  documents on their site, get it done now and you will not have to scramble once you get your NOA2, I would also start working on your I-134A support documents, it is more than just that 2 page document.

United KingdomFunny BBC c*ck-up!
that baby really does look like Peter Andre...... I really hate Peter Andre. He is absolutely rubbish and has no talent whatsoever. Of course Im not implying that Katie aka Jordan aka pikey is a talented, non-orange, articulate world leader, but she has earned all the money, and now is having to support that useless piece of lard. Oh well - the good news is I no longer live on the same continent as them. And that baby really is ugly!! I feel bad for saying that but its true.

United KingdomWould you risk it?
what difference does it make to send him back a day early? I think you would be crazy to even consider sending him back the day before. Its so important so why take such a risk when the alternative is so much better?

United KingdomWorst Mistake Ever...

Well can I ask a silly question pls? what happens to the stuff in the brown envelope ? will the guy at POE keep it all or give it back to me? I am not there yet but just wandering?

Lina (UKC)

as far as I am aware, the contents of the brown envelope are sent to USCIS for filing. They can refer to these documents again in the future when you apply for AOS.
