Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI751 Removal of Conditions
Hi,
I am currently filing for removal of conditions. The instructions state that affidavits should be "sworn to" or "affirmed". Does this mean that the person signing the affidavit is swearing that the information is correct, or does it mean that it needs to be signed in the presence of a lawyer or other?
thanks !

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTraveling with expired greencard.
I travelled internationally on an expired greencard but with one year extension letter. I had a really hard time coming back into the US. Apparently, although USCIS might say it is ok to travel on an expired greencard with supporting docs, the airports don't feel the same way.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionUnsuccessful biometric walk-in
QUOTE (Nanusia & Lukaszek @ Oct 23 2007, 04:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm with Kez on this one, and don't understand why people feel they should even try to do walk-in Biometrics. I mean they schedule you for a reason, right? They try to manage their schedule, and set dates for you to come for... hence why they didn't take you, and a valid reason according to me. We are all eager to get our cases moving, but if everyone started doing this, and showing up just as soon as they knew they could, the messy system would turn into a complete super mess and cause further delays down the line.

You've made it this far being patient with USCIS, a little more won't hurt. good.gif Think about those people that are in FBI name check for years with no appointments they can jump the line in front of to get their cases moving quicker.

To be fair to the OP, she doesn't need to consider all the people stuck in FBI name check. Whilst we can all sympathize with those who have to wait extended periods of time to be processed through the system, we should be cheering for those who are getting nearer to approval. There are so many different issues that can lead to delays in processing, and they can't all be attributable to delays in biometrics appointments, IMO.

CanadaProof of meeting ? we only have pictures

Since when did Facebook become bible of the truth? I fail to see how screenshot of Facebook that show xxx is in relationship with yyy can be considered any credible evidence.... I can make that in two minutes

I think this works because people have all their friends/family/coworkers etc on their facebook and in theory by putting that you are engaged/in a relationship on your facebook for all these people to see, it makes it less likely that the engagement is just for the visa, since then you'd have family/friends/coworkers going "whos this guy???" lol

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Form, question 11
Well, I'll fill out the form as necessary but my common sense reading of the question was that it was intended for those sponsering family members or relatives etc etc who may need financial support and/or housing until they establish themselves.

This is for a K1. I have checked "I intend" and simply put "all expenses as necessary". It is difficult to put any specifics down as when you marry someone it is integrated into your own living costs (ie, housing, meals, etc)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Form, question 11
It makes no sense. Why have the option to check one or the other? Obviously the purpose it to support, but in this case if you read the details it asks for you to give specific ammounts in US dollars etc. It seems if it is for a fiancee, then the duration is for life.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Form, question 11
I have a question regarding the I-134 forum. Question 11 states "I __ intend __ do not intend to make specific contributions to support of the person(s) named in item 3.

It appears that question 11 is aimed at those sponsering family members or relatives etc, and not a fiancee. Therefore, I should check X for I do not intend to make specific contributions... because the affidavit is in support of the person I intend to marry and live with and support as a spouse. Is that the correct understanding of this?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS -156, DS-157 need to be totally completed on computer?

DS-156 must be fully completed and printed from the website http://evisaforms.state.gov. When you click "Continue," the site generates a unique barcode containing all the info on the form. If you leave blanks to be filled in, the barcode will not correspond to the form data. The consulate may well reject this form and send your fiancee out to redo and reprint the form, leading to delays.

DS-157 is not an online form. It can be fully completed in pen and ink.

Not at all. Our forms were handwritten, they assigned the bar code at the interview. They have a nifty little printer that prints out a barcode label and they slap it on. Also you can fill out part of the form online, go on to the end, print it with the bar code and fill in the rest by hand, which is what I did with our sons K-2 to follow. I simply didn't have all the information we needed and sent it on with Alla to the interview with blanks to be filled in when she got there. For example, our son's passport number, date of issuance, etc. I just left that blank when I printed it and Alla filled it in later.

Gary, once again, you are giving bad advice. Quit universalizing your particular experience. It is just that: your experience. When experience is contrary to the rule, it must be taken as the exception that proves the rule, not proof that the rule doesn't apply.

The State Department emphasizes that the DS-156 must be completely filled out online. Numerous embassies' consular pages specifically state that they will reject DS-156s with any information filled in by hand or with a missing or improperly printed barcode. I suspect this is particularly true at busy posts, as the 2D barcode contains all the data on the form and thus greatly speeds data entry.

You disregarded the DS-156 instructions and got lucky. Good for you. But it is extraordinarily foolhardy to advise people that the instructions to fill out the form online are "not at all" to be taken seriously.

Yes, DS-157 can be downloaded in PDF format and completed on the computer. Filling it out on the computer is not required, however. It can be filled out by hand in part or in full.

DS-156, however, must be fully completed online and printed from the PDF generated by the website after clicking "Continue."

Hi guys,

Our embassy requires us to fill out DS230-Part 1 for packet 3 and it states spouses information such as DOB. family name, and occupation. But, we are not married yet. Should we just put N/A as this is for a K-1 Fiance petition.

N/A would be right answer.

A Police Certificate from the USA is not required for petitions adjudicated at GUZ.

ummmm ok makes sense now. I have read a few posts regarding this subject and it appears that filling out the form on-line and then printing it out puts all the information into a barcode on the third page. If she has problems where she cannot print it out at the internet cafe she is using, does anybody think it would be a problem for me to fill it out for her and bring it wirth me when I go to be with her at the interview?

This is exactly what I did.

Absolutely not. The petition was reaffirmed and sent back to HCMC. You need to submit a new, up-to-date DS-230 Part I.

In most cases, transcripts are actually better - they prove that you filed with the IRS, copies of the return only prove that you filled out the forms.

Based on your timeline, I'm guessing that you're preparing for the interview, gathering supporting docs for the I-134 affidavit of support. So, this belongs in the Embassy and Consulate Discussion forum.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156 Mistake - Oops! - Now What?
You can fill out the DS-156 as many times as you want. Clicking "Continue" or "Accept" does not transmit any information to the Department of State, it just encodes the form data into the 2D barcode on page 3 of the form.

You do not need to contact anyone or cancel anything; once again, nothing was submitted to DOS so there's nothing to cancel.

If you left something off the form, fill it out again and print a new one. Do not write additional information into the form after printing, as that information will not be captured in the barcode.

Just out of curiosity, which question of the DS-156 requires a school address? Is the school her employer?

What documents should i bring to prove i can support my fiancee.

I currently have an interview in early november.

So far I have the I-134, Letter from employment.

What else
1) Bank Statements?
2)Tax Records
3)Stock Options
Ect Ect

When assembling supporting documents for the I-134, remember the purpose is to demonstate current, sustained income (and/or assets) sufficient to support your fiance. To show current income, the employment letter is good; several months' (6 is a good benchmark) worth of pay stubs, if available, are also advisable. Most consulates also want to see the most recent tax return or IRS transcript as well.

If your income as demonstrated by the above is sufficient, there is no need to mention bank accounts or other assets on the I-134 nor to include documentation of such.
