US Citizenship General DiscussionNaturalization and Selective Service
I think there is a waiver for selective service, especially to people who registering for selective service is not applicable to them due to status. But you need to review the REQUIREMENTS for this waiver and see if you qualify due to your status as F1 when you first arrived here.

See this link: http://www.sss.gov/Status.html

You can call or write to SS to find out exactly what situation your case falls under.

Non-U.S. male on a valid non-immigrant visa

- For example, if the man entered the United States as an F-1 student visa and remained in that status until his 26th birthday, he would need to provide documentation indicating that he was admitted on an F-1 visa and attended school full-time as required. Acceptable documentation for this situation include a copy of his I-20 form or a letter from the school he attended indicating his full-time attendance as a non-immigrant alien. The same thing applies for all non-immigrant statuses.

US Citizenship General Discussiondebts to IRS
I have not read anywhere that owing back taxes causes any issues with naturalization approval. But let others who have experience with this chime in for some definite answers.

Why not ask your husband to call IRS to set up payment arrangements? That way, you can show documents of this arrangement as good faith effort in settling your tax obligations to the government if it ever comes up at your citizenship interview. Good luck to you!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionReceived extension letter.

my wife had received her extension letter [ROC] yesterday. I would like to thank all vj members becaused everyone was a big help to me and my wife. This vj website was a big help on my wife's AOS and also on the ROC. Without this website and also without the members on this website, i know that i would had some problems doing the AOS and the ROC. Becaused of the vj members, i did everything correct and i also advoided problems. I know that we had sent in alot of documents and evidence to the VSC and i hope that there won't be RFE sent to us. My wife's next step is going for her fingerprints and we are waiting for the appointment letter. The good about this website is everybody helps each other and that is a good thing. I will keep on coming on this vj website to see if i can help other members on their ROC. Also, if i should get a RFE or other problems, i will come on this website and i am very sure that everyone will help. Once again to all vj members, thank you very much. This is a great website and i have learned alot from being on this site. Thank you everyone and god bless.

Well said and congratulations on getting your extension!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionUSPS lost greencard

The local post office couldn't help me and it didn't come in the mail today! Well lets hope for tomorrow then :(

Regular mail with delivery confirmation is slow, sometimes even unreliable.

Give it a few days, it will show. If not, go back to the PO to enquire again.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI130 Still Waiting Approval... Stuck. :(
Currently it is 6 to 8months waiting time. You're only 4 or so months into the process so be patient.

No. A lawyer cannot speed it up for you. S/he will end up taking your money and you will end up having to wait.

You answered your question on the I-485.

Today is exactly 6months for me and still patiently waiting.

Ah ok thanks - and how do you know when that happens?!

You can also know when your case file is "touched" in your case portfolio online. If you sign up and register your case to receive updates. When you log-in into your case, click on the portfolio section. The last "touch" will be the date under that case update. Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsis there any approvals lately as for CR1 from NBC

Folks, February, March, and April filers have nothing to worry about yet. Even January filers are still OK. My I-130 took 111 days to approve and from what I can tell that was a bit on the early side. Infopass appointments are for when you think there is a problem. If we all misuse them then they become a normal part of the process, not something special that lights a fire under the USCIS.

I agree with Speedwell!

You want to use infopass when you're way outside the 5 to 6months processing timeline OR something needs corrected/updated about your case. Otherwise, the officers will spend the time 'talking' about cases without actually and physically working on our cases.

I know this first hand at my office. I work for a gov agency under the State Dept (don't want to name it). Every time we synopsize or put solicitations out to the public and businesses, we get bombarded with phone calls even though we clearly tell potential applicants to follow the instructions or send an email for any clarification. In essence, officers screening these applications stop doing the actual work and thus talking about cases. Thus the reason why we now say no 'telephonic calls' are allowed for solicitations!!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWell, well, well...Ladies & Gentlemen, we are finally approved!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am here tonight to announce that our petition is finally approved! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

It was a long, hard and frustrating 8.5 months but we got it done! No RFE's; just one straight shot!

I had filed I-129F and I-130 around the same time. Right now, we made the decision NOT to pursue the I-129F fiancé(e) visa.

There is a lot to be said another time about those who doubted what I were doing. This is our time to enjoy our success of scaling over one hurdle of the process. We will not allow them to take the shine off of our happiness!!!

To all the good people who are still waiting... your time will be here sooner than you know it! Good luck!

Post Decision Activity

On August 14, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow long will it take?

Hi Everyone,

I just sent in the I-130 petition for my husband who lives in the UK this week and sent it by certified mail so by checking through upsp.com I know it has been delivered. Does anyone know how long it may take to get a response from them? It was sent to the Phoenix Lockbox? Also, after this point is it is waiting? Or do i need to fill out any other forms?

thanks for your help

The timeline depends but give yourself anywhere up to a year +/-. I just got approved and it took 8.5months.

Also if you use the search button, you would find past posts/questions about timeline. Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportshow long does it take to get NOA2?
I would say lately it's taking about 8months to get NOA2s particularly cases that stay at the NBC at the Lee's Summit Missouri office because of the backlog and the adjucators' slow pace of work there.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-130 Processing Times-Should I be worried?

Can you explain to me that T-26 days till Overland in Kansas means?

At any point did you call and speak to someone or did you just wait?

I called several times and made an infopass appointment. Both were useless because they could not give us any better updates or respond effectively to my questions. I even made a service request (enquiry) over the phone. As I write, we have not received a reply to that service enquiry.

In the end, we resigned to just waiting until the approval came exactly 8.5months.

Hope your approval comes soon. Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-130 Processing Times-Should I be worried?
My petition stayed at NBC the whole time and it took 8.5 months.

I would say OP is still well within the timeframe even though they're filing from overseas.

I am a January 22nd filer for my wife in the Philippines and September 22nd will
be the end of our 8th month of waiting. Our petition still says under initial review.
My question is has anyone waiting on an I-130 for the month of January been
approved yet or are all January filers still waiting?

Hang in there, you're close to a decision.

I'm a December filer and just got approved 4weeks ago. It took 8.5months. Best of luck!
