Great! Finally reason and common sense has prevailed!

But you might want to get the names straightened on all your documents so you don't encounter such unnecessary hassle in the future. Just my thought.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsConsulate wants change of name certificate but I didn't change my name

Hi everyone,

I hope someone on this Forum has been in a similar situation as mine.  My interview is next Tuesday and I received an email from the Sydney consulate today requesting that I bring a certificate of name change to my interview but I've never changed my name and don't know what to do.

I was born in Quebec and the naming tradition at the time I was born was to give all girls 'Marie' as their first name, followed by the given name of a relative (my maternal grandmother in my case) and then your actual given name.  On my baptism certificate, my given name is 'Marie Claire Julie' but my given name really is just 'Julie'.  All my friends have 'Marie' as their first name but nobody ever uses the first two names on their baptism certificate, the third name is the given name.

Baptism certificate are not recognized as valid birth certificates so I mailed them the one issued by the Quebec government. On my birth certificate, the names are listed in this order:

Given Names:
Julie
Marie
Claire

So the US consulate has now asked me to provide either a passport with the name 'Julie Marie Claire' which has never been my name or to prove that I was born 'Julie Marie Claire' and changed my name to 'Julie'. Again, 'Julie Marie Claire' has never been my name. In Quebec it's common knowledge that your third name on the baptism certificate is your given name, nobody uses the other two.  I have never used the full name 'Marie Claire Julie' in my life.

Has anyone ever been in this situation before?  I haven't seen my husband in over six months so I really want my visa to be approved next Tuesday but now I am worried.  I have emailed back the consulate to explain the situation but I haven't received a reply yet. I really don't want to get a passport in the name 'Julie Marie Claire' but I think that would be the easiest solution if that's what they really want.

Quite confusing. Explanation should be sufficient.

Use the "search button" up the top of the page. Your question has been discussed exhaustively.

That said, the K3 isn't  available anymore and do not think it's any faster.

I would move on with the I-130.

Will wait and see what the RFE for I-129F is about. If even it warrants responding to at all.

But IR1/CR1 visa is better. So keep that in mind.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDOS is frustrating

My response exactly. Some people are so set in their views, and so unwilling to listen to the opinions of others, that it is a waste of time trying to reason with them.

Patsgal54, thanks for making that point eloquently! This site consists of helpful community of members and a great resource for may people around the world...but unfortunately, there are a handful on here who are very intolerant of accepting opposing viewpoints, and would try at all cost to drown out the least dissent/viewpoint while espousing their own views/opinions as the 'gosple'.

The immigration process is very long and hard, at times very frustrating so you would think other members would be understanding, encouraging and even be supportive when someone expresses a modicum of frustration with a seemingly unpredictable process.

Mary, please hang in there! Do not let anyone shut you down from expressing yourself. I wish you the very best of luck!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiondocuments for interview

thanks, though if by new photos u mean photos that were taken after we filed for the petition, we dont have them becuase my husband got deployed almost straight after that and he is still deployed, i am hoping to go to the states when he goes back as well, so we can spend his r&r time together

If you have same photos just bring along to interview just in case...

This is a thread to help buttress the point I was making: http://www.visajourn...s-review-time/. You just want to avoid this headache if you can help it.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiondocuments for interview

i did plan on getting everything that we sent again, but would simple photo copies of those documents be enough or do i have to get new original ones in case they lost them ?

and more importantly, do i need to bring supporting documents to prove the relationship different from the ones already submited ... this is the main part i dont understand... like we already sent photos of us with the petition.. now again... different photos ? same photos ?

Same photos, but if you have new photos that will help PROVE your relationship beyond any doubt, why not bring them along to the interview? It will not hurt in my view. Also, it is good to have certified copies of all your original documents just in case. You just will never know what they may be missing in your file at the consulate. I would spend the time gathering all these documents before interview so I don't get surprised. Good luck to you!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiondocuments for interview

I am sure this was asked somewhere before, but because i dont want to hijack someone else's post

i am just a little confused

i see that people are asking about and gathering documents to prove the relationship
( i am going on an interview for a CR-1 visa)

but i think such documents and proof was included in the petition i-130 package that we sent

do we have to bring the same stuff ? different stuff ? how am i supposed to find different stuff ?
what is the whole idea behind asking for the same thing twice ? do i need to bring something extra or something completely different... i cant seem to grasp this

now about other types of documents.. i know if i sent the originals i need to bring copies with me or if i send copies i need to bring the originals with me
i am not sure if u guys know this specifically, but the embassy in sofia requires 2 additional documents, but .. they are sort of the same that the nvc wants, so i sent them to the nvc... does that mean i have to go get them again - one of them is the court/police certificate and the other is a marital status certificate ( diffrent from marriage certificate)... if they do want them again, why on earth do they want godzilian copies/originals of the same things

also photographs.. i sent 2 photographs to the NVC, do i still need to bring 2 photographs to the interview ?

Lets see if we can make this simple and clear as possible. Whatever DOCUMENTS or evidence you sent to uscis gets sent to NVC after your petition is approved. That's why you will hear some members saying "frontloading" your petition with evidence so when it get approved they will get forwarded to NVC.

NVC in tend gets ALL the documents and asks for others such as I-864, DS 230, plus more stuff like passport size photos, police cert/report, original BC or certified copy of BC and ALL the other documents you see in the NVC guides.

So some members here advice that (and this is great advice IMO) you or the beneficiary bring along EXTRA sets of everything -- be it passport photos, evidentiary photos, copies of BCs, police report, I-864 plus ALL Documents you had submitted throughout the process just in case all these documents you had previously sent DOES NOT get to the consulate. (And it has happened before where people think they sent in all requested documents only to be told at interview by the CO that they're missing this & that document).

Can you imagine the frustration, disappointment and headache that would be when your visa is NOT approved because of one document you know well you had submitted? And can you imagine what difference it will make if you had extra set of passport photos at the interview to readily submit to avoid such a bad experience of being told: "oh we are holding off of approving your visa beacuse we do not have the beneficiary's passport photo in the file"?. It helps to have sets of every document ready on hand just in case.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionREADY STATUS

hello everyone..

I am from PAKISTAN. I had an interview last year and after 11 months of long wait my AP was over and i was asked to submit the medical to get the K1 immigrant visa. but on 6-Feb-2014 my status is again changed to AP. I am worried a lot why this happened.

Also i have forwarded my new medical to them on 4-Feb-2014 which they have not received yet.

Any idea ??????

Wait for confirmation of receipt of your updated medicals and see if your status changes again.

You can also call the embassy directly to speak to someone about your case (i.e. if they will be willing to discuss your case). Also, make sure to post this in the Pakistan regional forum in order for you glean consulate specific answers.

Good luck to you going forward!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninfo about visa date extension

She needs to go back to the IV unit, tell them she will be travelling at a later date so she would need the validity date of the visa extended. The one catch is that she will have to re-do her medicals again because the visa expiry date is actually tied to the medicals date.

This is do-able because my wife and I actually enquired about such a possibility. The embassy in Ghana said they can sure do it. Of course, not all embassies/consulates are the same, that's why you need to ask from your embassy. Salam!

salam

members i need to ask another question actually my husband filed immigrant visa for me and my mother in law together and my mother in law got her visa in November her visa expires in may and i m expecting my interview in may or june  but we want to travel together(me and my mother in law)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionEmbassy calls again for for the second time for proof of relationship

I agree completely with Baron!

Unfortunately they (CO & the embassy) are not convinced your relationship is genuine. For some reason, they do this a lot with K1 applicants. IMO, your responses during interview and the quality of the evidence presented is the key to getting approval.

Have the Petitioner draft a latter titled Evolution of Our Relationship.  In it refer to your evidence and hopefully it will substantiate the normal progression of a relationship leading to the desire to marry and live in the US together.  If your evidence doesn't show this, you may be in trouble.

And, its the content of the evidence that is key....not the quantity.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDidn't know about the name change. Any help?

Contact the embassy, submit the correct document & and add an 'explanation letter' explaining the circumstances.

Good luck!

Hello guys, as I am planning to leave to visit my home town and trying to gather all the info and documents that we need, my fiance asked about the birth certificate from his mother, and apparently his name on the birth certificate is DIFFERENT than what we've put on our I-129F form.

Does anyone know who we should contact? So far, our case has been received by the US Embassy in London about a couple days ago.

Any help would really be appreciated, thank you so much!

good.gif good.gif good.gif Great response!

Yep OP, it is the waiting game, not your fiancé's job change. Do not let it drive you crazy

Are you worried if your fiancés job change might have affected your application or what? Your question is not clear..but if that's what you are wondering, NO it won't have any bearing on the application. It might be taking a while because they are currently back logged so just wait a while and you should be fine.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 3 Questions

See my response in red:

Hello all,

Thanks for your wonderful site and the great info we were able to find here. My fiancée and I are at the Packet 3 step right now and I have a few questions I would appreciate answers to.

  • What evidence is sufficient to prove my domicile in the US? Is a copy of my lease and some bills enough?
  • In addition: Drivers License, register to vote, open a bank account, Filed taxes etc etc
  • What about the evidence of my status in the US? What does that mean exactly?
  • Finally, once in the US, can my fiancée travel freely by plane within its borders? Yes. With her valid passport or travel document.
Also, another general question. We will be using the consulate in Montreal. I have heard that not all embassies and consulates accept cosponsors for the I-134 form. Does anyone know if this one accepts them?

Thanks a lot for your help!

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship denial

I will get a lawyer, but was looking for opinion of is it worth to get one and proceed with this till the end, or wait until my wife becomes a citizen and file another application?

Sir, please for your own good, consult a competent lawyer asap! Just like the other advice above, ONLY a good lawyer who has dealt with a similar case as yours can tell you the best route to take and answer the questions in this quote.

Search for and hire a good lawyer to represent you soonest. Goodluck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionSelective Service Registration
If you look right beneath where your selective service # and other personal info appeared on the page, there is a link that tells you to request "official proof of selective service registration".

If there's time between now and when you attend your citizenship interview, why wouldn't you spend the time to request an "official record" instead? It will take about two weeks to get in the mail.

I was leaning towards agreeing that the online printout is ok, BUT it will suck for your citizenship approval to be put on hold because you didn't have an "official record of proof of SS registration" at the time of interview. Good luck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionPassport/Social Security etc.
Congratulations on becoming a citizen!

1. I would go to SS Administration to update my info - as now a US Citizen.

2. I would make a clean color photocopy(ies) of the naturalization certificate for safe-keeping.

3. Same day, and after I go to SS Admin, I would go to the passport office or post office to apply for the passport.

4. The passport office (Dept of Sate) will return your naturalization certificate by priority mail with delivery confirmation. That way, it at least has minimum tracking on it, which will ensure you will get your original cert back (Of course packages can get lost by Delivery Confirmation too).

5. Finally, I understand your concern about your hard-earned US citizenship certificate getting lost in the mail system as it travels between USPS and Dept of State, but you don't need to let that 'fear' stop you from applying for your US passport.

US Citizenship General DiscussionNaturalization and Selective Service
I think there is a waiver for selective service, especially to people who registering for selective service is not applicable to them due to status. But you need to review the REQUIREMENTS for this waiver and see if you qualify due to your status as F1 when you first arrived here.

See this link: http://www.sss.gov/Status.html

You can call or write to SS to find out exactly what situation your case falls under.

Non-U.S. male on a valid non-immigrant visa

- For example, if the man entered the United States as an F-1 student visa and remained in that status until his 26th birthday, he would need to provide documentation indicating that he was admitted on an F-1 visa and attended school full-time as required. Acceptable documentation for this situation include a copy of his I-20 form or a letter from the school he attended indicating his full-time attendance as a non-immigrant alien. The same thing applies for all non-immigrant statuses.
