maybe she just can't believe that men would move to the other side of the world for love?!

She might do. Or maybe she just doesnt believe anyone would do it. Ask my mother. She thinks its mad! :bonk:

Yeah and today it was a South African laid back guy. Maybe she's just miffed because a South African beat Michael Phelps in the swimming.....joke-joke!! :P :D

She thinks she has the power to stop any guy that she likes the look of from leaving

Thankfully most DCF journeys through London are easy, but there have been a few puzzlers over the years. I think I recall one USC being told to go back to the US and physically re-establish domicile before the UKC got the visa. There was the USC who was told she wasn't a USC at the interview and therefore couldn't be a sponsor for the I-864, despite having a US Passport.Posted Image And Alan's (Ashud Cocoa) wife was told she wasn't domiciled in the UK despite having LLR so she couldn't do DCF, but when they went through stateside processing she was told she wasn't domiciled in the US. These are rare though!

Wow! Really makes you wonder if these people at the embassy say these things for the hell of it because theyre having a bad day or whether they simply dont know what theyre doing!

Cathy is correct. Keeto's problem is all about the USC sponsor on the I-864 Affidavit of Support has to be domiciled in the US. In the case of the USC spouse living abroad, an intent to domicile needs to be established. See this page for the whole London explanation http://london.usemba...4_domicile.html

So K1s and regular CR1s, don't take Keeto's interview as a sign that you need to book tickets, quit your jobs, and cut off your utilities before your interview in order to get approved. Keeto is in a different visa situation than most that post in this UK forum.

I think this is the hardest part for DCF. The process is quicker but they want us to prove things that we cant really do without cutting ourselves off in both countries until they say the magic "Visa approved". I intend to show them letters which i will be sending to my landlord, tax credits etc. I wont send them until after the interview though. From reading the reviews, i saw that somebody had none of this proof and was approved simply based on the fact that they had a joint sponsor domiciled in the US

Yeah the best of all was, the rental agreement started on the 1st of December. Because of the way the timing works out in the past few months for DCF that is when we were expecting to arrive. But now that the embassy is on this 4 day notice thing of theirs - instead of the regular 1 month between packet 3 and 4 - we plan to move a bit earlier. So when she asked me when do we plan to move I said in the middle of November, me being my honest self. She was like: "But this says December?" I explained to her that the embassy usually takes a month between P3 and P4.....her response was: "So it's a bit too quick?" I said "No, I don't have a problem with that, but we you have to take that into consideration....." I got: "Well, this isn't bad, but it's not good enough...." Then, at the end when she was explaining to me what to do courier wise she adds: " Just change the date on the rental agreement and it will be fine....." Huh? Does she realize it needs to go back to the US? I just said: "I'll get you the notices and the airline bookings, don't worry....bye."

Now thats just madness.. Theres only so many loose ends you can tie up without knowing interview dates. And when theres only a few days, you cant get that stuff done. Sounds like she just didnt want you to win and was going to come up with something stupid whatever you said to her.

Thankfully my husbands letter of employment says that it is an open offer. So when we get the interview date we will just type up a quick reply with a date on it that reflects when the interview ends up being.

I dunno Holly, but she wears glasses and wasn't very friendly. Not impolite or something but not very friendly. She didn't laugh at my story about how my wife and I met, and I know it's funny the way we met because people always laugh about it...bit she didn't look amused at all with the story.
I was very laid back, and calm because I thought I was well prepared and she couldn't "phase" me.....maybe it was just a bit of a "power trip" thing.....anyway. Not much we can do now but gather the "proof".

Sounds like her. Brown hair and glasses i believe the last person said. Just thought of another thing to do (was looking for ways to prove all of this myself! Theres no way im booking flights in advance) is mail redirection. They can do it overseas too https://www.royalmai...ections/details Just a little bit of extra proof. £35 for 1 month. Could be worth it if theyre going to be picky!

Im sorry to hear they did that! Are they for real at the moment?! There seems to be loads of crazy "RFE" type things going on.

This will be a quick fix for you. I dont know of many people who book flights before they have the visas issued though so thats a strange thing for them to want you to do... Was it the same woman who has been giving people grief last week?

United KingdomIdiot's Guide Required!
Your questions have been answered already but im doing DCF and this is it in a nut shell.

Step 1 - Send in the I-130, you usually receive NOA1 (notice of acceptance) and check on the dates here http://london.usemba...i130filing.html . During this time, you might want to prepare the I-864 (affidavit of support). When your date comes up on there, you will shortly receive NOA2 (notice of approval) or sometimes an RFE (request for further evidence).

Step 2 - After NOA2, a few weeks (often 3-4) you will receive a LDN case number (often called packet 3). When you get this, you need to call Knightsbridge Doctors http://www.knightsbridge-doctors.com/ and make an appointment for the medical.

Step 3 - You then need to send back DS-230 pt 1 and DS-2001 (when you have all of your documents ready for the interview)with a cover letter stating when your medical will be (or was if already done) and any travel plans you have.

Step 4 - You will then receive an interview appointment letter (often called packet 4) and you take all of the documents listed here http://london.usemba..._documents.html and your DS-230 pt 2 and I-864.

Step 5 - If you are approved, you pay the courier on the way out of the Embassy and they deliver your passport with visa inside within 14ish days.

Your passport, if you change your name, it is renewed for a further 10 years so it would probably be wise to do that now. They treat it as a renewal either way. I renewed mine with 2 years left when i got married and the new one is valid for 10 years. It is £77.50 to do that. On September 3rd, the price is going down to £72.50.

6 months is pretty accurate for current timelines.

The police certificate you have to do here http://www.acro.poli...rtificates.aspx and it is for every COUNTRY you have lived in for more than 12 months since the age of 16. Again, i think renewing your passport first would be the easiest option. Renewing from the US and travelling with two names can sometimes get tricky.

Thats great news i hope he gets it in time! Im sure it will be quite fast. My husbands UK visa (different one though) took about 4 or 5 weeks to come back and that was outside of the immigration rules. So probably within a month he will have it all sorted :) Good luck!

Lynne's answer was the one i was going to suggest.

If you are still unsure, find an immigration lawyer who offers a free consultation and they will tell you exactly what to do. Make sure you write down what questions you want to ask and keep a pen and paper handy. They wont give too much detail away unless you ask during these consultations. They want the custom! But it is perfectly do-able by yourselves.

Aww i dont blame you! I wouldnt if i didnt have to. But for CRBA both parents and the child they are doing it for have to be there. Looks like its going to be a nightmare of a day :help:

For my medical and interview, my husband and daughter will stay at home. Much more peaceful that way!

Thats good to know! Was it American stuff or just generic sandwiches and things? I'll have to take some stuff in because i'll likely have tubs of blueberries and grapes etc. from the train journey down there. The only thing to keep my noisy toddler relatively quiet

United KingdomEntrance to the Embassy
We were in the Citizen Services side but i assume its pretty much the same in the other side. But it was like a doctors waiting room with childrens toys (probably only that side because they do CRBA) and then bank style booths. They had Argos style screens which happened to shut down after about an hour then they just called the numbers.

It didnt come out as well as i'd hoped but hopefully it will make things easier for those going there soon.
At the very back on the picture, the road straight ahead is North Audley Street. You will probably come down there towards the embassy if you come from Bond Street tube station. Goulds is on that street. It will be on your right as you walk down (left in picture). The buildings are the two security buildings. The one furthest away in the picture is the Immigrant services one. The one closest is the Citizen Services one. They have security scanners inside and boxes to put belts and watches etc in. Once cleared, you will exit through the other side of the building and onto the embassy grounds. Left around the building for Citizen Services, right around the building for Immigrant Services.

There was a desk with two women in blue jackets in between the two buildings when i got there, but by the time i got out they were gone. They are the ones you have to go to first before going to security.

The police certificate you get from here http://www.acro.poli...rtificates.aspx it is £45 for standard (10 working days, not including dates of receipt or dispatch) or £80 for 2 working days, also not including dates of receipt or dispatch. Mine arrived back in 10 days from posting it using the standard service.

Take a look here http://www.visajourn...terview-thread/ for helpful advice on the various K1 stages.

So we're going to need to change the I-864 to include him in the household members part? Kind of irritates me to be honest, he was here with me by the 12th of January 2011 and never left the UK again

United KingdomMistake on joint sponsors tax return.
I have just been looking over my joint sponsors (in laws) tax return that they gave me with the I-864. It's the 2011 tax return and my husband is listed as a dependant. He was only a dependant of theirs for 11 days during that tax year before he came to live with me in the UK. Does it matter for my visa? We just spoke with them and they said its a mistake (thought they were eligible to put him down, but it appears they werent). They understand they may get fined by the IRS so thats not an issue. Just wondering if it will affect the visa process at all since thats what i will be giving to them at the Embassy?

Thanks.

Did you read that thread i linked you to? That one turned out to be bad wording of basically somebody arranging the visa to be processed. I dont think it is the dreaded AP! Do you have a MENA sounding name (or are MENA) or anything else that could put you in AP? There have been very few cases of somebody ending up in real AP when they dont have something connecting them like that.

It doesnt sound like AP. More some terrible wording by the officer!

Congrats on your approval! I hope you get your visa soon. It might be worth calling to find out whats going on to put your mind at rest.

Edit to add: It sounds like this http://www.visajourn...59#entry5591659 Nothing serious, just bad wording.

All you need is your passport. You can enter for 6 months but they might take you to secondary since it is a long stay. You would need to take proof that you plan to leave and proof that you are currently in the visa process for your fiance to come to the US. It is a lot easier to come over for 3 months.
