So I called the NVC number a couple minutes ago and talked to the operator. I was relieved that she has the NVC case #. Now just waiting for the next step.

Back to topic. I just called the NVC number today and went through their automated system. Says it's not in their system (yet). It's not yet 4 weeks so hopefully they'll get it soon. Not frustrated...was actually expecting it'll be another slow process (see my timeline for NOA 2 approval lol), but I do have a letter already written up just in case (was originally for NOA2 if it went past 6 months).

A lot of people read the thread as their paperwork maybe in the process of going to NVC also (like mine) and no one replying since they haven't encountered that issue.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)name change after marriage
hi just read this thread. im debating the same thing.
im 38, and i have a college diploma (im a badger too! on wisconsin!) house, passport, and a lot of nicknames based on my last name. the reason why i state my age i cause ive hada lot of time to establish an identity around it i guess. i really like my last name, even though its an old german name that nobody can pronounce. also, we call each other by our last names a lot at work ( im a firefighter) and it's all over our uniforms- name plates, name patches, name tags, etc etc. plus i am independent and never was able to understand the tradition of losing your identity. if it's about being a part of the "team", then why doesnt both partners come up with a completely new one?

my fiance is from ecuador where they use 2 appelidos. his mom didnt change her name, but when i asked him what he thought, he said he wants me to have his name. as far as his name, his dad cheated on his mom and caused a lot of pain, him and his dad didnt see eye to eye, but he is really close to his mom. in when he comes here he thnks he will keep only his dad's. that i dont understand but i respect it cause its his choice. but why in the world would i want to take his dad's name after what he did to the family? it would be really cool if he took his mom's in her honor, but like i said its up to him.

so at a later date, when we can talk in person, i plan on explaining all this to my fiance. i cant imagine that it will be an issue for him. i really dont care if people call us mr and mrs [his last name], like at a restaurant or hotel, or whatever. people who are close will know what my name is. our kids can have his name.

just a heads up though, depending on what kind of people you run with you may want to anticipate getting some #$% over a decision to keep your name. some pretty normal ie not super macho guys at work told me they would NEVER marry a woman who kept her last name. you may get an unwanted earful of that, yes, even in this day and age and country!!!

anyhow, the bottom line is figure out what is right for you, you will know. i dont think cruz is difficult at all, but then again you are in wisconsin :-) let us know what you decide.

all the best,
kathie

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 vs K-3 , which is better?
Saludos Amigos~
We are trying to decide which is better for us, K-1 or K-3. Any input would be great; I've spent hours reading this website and a thousand others, but I'm still not clear. You wonder how current a lot of info is.
Here is our story:
- me, US
--him, Ecuadorian, has passport, no visa, ie cant get a tourist visa to visit
-met Dec 2007. i was in Ecuador on a kayaking trip, he is a raft guide. Spent one week together.
-Feb 2008, i returned to Ecuador, spent almost the whole month with him.
-Feb 2008, im back in the US now, within a few days of being apart we realize we dont need to look any further. let get hitched!

Im hearing that the fiance visa is taking slightly less time (a few weeks) less the spouse visa. Is this accurate?

One lawyer I emailed says he is getting visas in 6 months, the processing times on USCIS look like 7 months, and the lawyer I paid $200 for a consult says current times are a year for spouses and a 1.5 yrs for fiances. Who is correct?

Also, a lawyer told me the fiance visa can be denied if they think its a sham, but they cant pull that with the spouse visa. Since we obviously had a very brief courtship (although we can document emails, phone calls, an expensive and long return trip, photos, as well as all my Learn Spanish type books and cds purchased after we met) I'm a little worried about going with the fiance visa. Can anyone advise- will our short courtship throw a flag? If so we are prepared to marry in Ecuador asap and start the K-3 instead.

On the other hand, we want to be be together soon! I'm 38, he's 37, and we want to start having kids asap. (Remember that line from that movie with Marisa Tomei... my CLOCK is TICKING?? :-)

Pros (?) WE ARE: same age, same interests, didn't meet thru internet or marriage service (no offense to anyone i dont know if this is a pro or not), I make enough money and I happen to carry a badge (maybe that will make me look more law abiding and less likely to attempt a sham marriage?), no drugs, no police records, no prior marriages or kids..... what else is important? He has some pretty sweet references- the mayor of his town, lawyers, and his state and national political representatives.

Hope this is neither too much no not enough detail to get a few good responses. Im posting this on the K1 and K3 forums. THanks everyone, have an awesome day!

P.S. regarding what they asked: They asked him where/how we met, what I did for a living, when we became engaged...and that was about it, really. All of our paperwork was in order and well organized, and the whole thing went pretty quickly.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)What questions will Naples,Italy Embassy ask?
The Naples consulate was amazing. My fiance' had his appointment on Oct 13 and 14 (medical the 13 and interview the 14), and the staff was, to a person, friendly and efficient. He said it was a really positive experience. I know Naples has a bad reputation, but that reputation certainly does not play out within the context of the consulate there. It was all very straightforward, reasonable, courteous and uncomplicated. Buona fortuna a tutti!

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)For Italians: Birth Certificate (estratto di nascita) question
Ciao a tutti (hi everyone!),

My fiance' is coming here on a K-1 at the beginning of January. I have been communicating w/ him today asking him to go to the comune (city hall) to ask for a few official copies of his BC so we'll have them for the marriage licence, AOS application, etc. He's telling me he can't get multiple copies. I think he's confusing the *original* with *official copies* - i.e. he thinks that they gave him the official copy for our K-1 and that that's all there is. I am trying to explain that City Hall always retains the original because it's a legal document that always stays on file w/ them, and that when we ask them for our BC it's *always* a copy.

Anyhow, I don't know what to tell him. Can you get multiple copies of your BC in Italy? How many did you bring (or are you planning to bring) with you?

Grazie!! (Thanks!!)

I have the same question here :) DS-156 Question 32...what you think is the best answer? I am helping my fiancee filling up this form. My answer would be YES since she will eventually work once as what you've said have the paper works but no employer yet at this time...

If you get a reply of what is the best answer to this question, please let me know. Or anyone knows what to answer to DS-156 Question 32 for K-1 visa application.

Thanks!

The bar code contains only the data that is entered into the form, bar code is scanned at the embassy allowing accurate entry of the data on the form.

It does not contain info about where it was filled out so yes you can fill it out and send it to your SO.

I am in the U.S. and my fiancee in the Philippines...they require DS-156 to be entered online. Can I do that transaction here and print it out (as directed) because I have access to the internet here versus my fiancee have to go to an internet cafe to do this? Heard that once you finish entering all the information, it will ask you to print out the DS-156 with a barcode and bring it during your interview. Does the barcode have information of where the DS-156 was entered? Will it jeopardize my fiancee's visa application? Help please

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support help

A photo copy of the last 12 months bank statements accomplishes the same thing as the letter from the bank.

As far as copies of your tax returns if you are an employee you need one, if you are self employed you need the last three years. You need your 1040 and three consecutive recent pay stubs.

If I do this...giving my past 12 months of bank statement without a letter from the bank...do I have to put an amount on the line that says "I have on deposit in savings banks in the U.S."?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support help

Your income is more than sufficient, you will only need past years returns, and letter from employer, along with completed notarized I-134.

EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT.

You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge or be a burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. Submit your petitioner’s most recent U.S. Federal income tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank statements may be included. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form will be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner’s ability to be financially responsible for you.

http://manila.usemba...ov/wwwfivk1.pdf

Thank you for the information! How many past returns should I submit? Does it have to be notarized? Also it was mention that I have to make 3 copies of each...why?

Question too regarding Question 11. Some say check "do not intend" .... what if I want to check "intend" because I will pay for her visa application, airline, tickets and expenses here in the states while she is looking for a job after AOS. Will it cause problems or will they ask for more documents if I check "intend"?

Thanks again :)

What you have so far sounds good .. but i don't know much about the Philippines exactly as all consulates vary things a bit BUT .... i have to say .. you have gone through all the " hassle " to get everything else you think you " may " need .. whats one little letter from the bank .. just in case

Thank you! We'll I might do that then.

My salary is $50,000/year but I read it somewhere that I have to at least provide 2 proofs to back up the affidavit of support. I don't want to go to the hassle of going to the bank and ask for when the account is open and what is the balance...etc...etc. Also together with my proof of salary (letter from my employer), I am also sending my tax return form-1040 and recent pay stubs. You should bring what u submitted with the 129 and any proof of relationship between the date you submitted the petition and your interview date. Chat logs, hotel and ATM receipts if you fiance visited the PI, pics of u together and anything else u can think of that proves the relationship is ongoing and that you have met within the last 2 years.
Even passport stamps, boarding passes and exit fee stamps from the Manil airport. Good luck, Ken

Hi to all! Anyone for Manila interview or anyone who knows...Do my fiancee needs to photocopy all letters/stamped envelopes/mail receipts/emails/other things to show evidence of our relationship? You know like the one you did when you file for I-129F that you have to make copies of such things :help:

Or can she just bring all those evidence and show the originals upon request

Insights would be helpful :innocent: Thank you!

We have all those documents that we have met within 2 years before we apply for the I-129F and I sent all those copies to my fiancee (actually the entire I-129F copy) and its originals.

So my question is, the proof of on going relationship from the time i submit the I-129F up to the present like letters and emails and phone bills...do I have to make photo copies of these documents or just bring all originals to the embassy? Thank you!

Just bring them with you

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! That save me a lot of paper

Thank you Roy and Yazi! I am stressed out of the whole thing  and that's the least thing I want to worry about...delayed mail. You know what I mean

Thank you for the information. No one discusses here in the forum about PhilPost (Philippine Postal Service) doing the delivery of 2 sensitive mails from the USE prior to the interview. Hi Roy and Yazi,

You said the packet will be delivered by Delbros? See previous post from BJZags...so the Packet 4 will be delivered by regular Philippine postal or Delbros? I am talking about the packet with the interview date information and other important documents. Thanks!

We were surprised to received from PhilPost the Receipt Notice from the US Embassy in Manila indicating that "the hardcopy files of the petition have been delivered by the NVC". It arrived safely but is it normal for USE to mail it thru regular Philippine Postal Service? I expect they will use more safe courier...

Need thoughts about this if its normal or not...

What are you asking about? NVC mails the file to the USE using DHL courier. If your talking about your girl receiving a letter from the embassy that she is now in the que for an interview, or the packet 4 that is mailed to your girl closer to the interview, I believe that is sent through regular Philippines mail.

I am so confused of when are they going to tell us the interview date so as the medical appointment date.

Hi. Our package is at the embassy in Manila. They received it on Jan. 25. I have called them a couple of times and I have managed to confuse myself just a little more. So I am going to ask some of you that have gone through this process recently to explain some things to me. I have read numerous times that the fiance's packet three will be mailed to her and she sends it back to the embassy. Tonight when I spoke with the embassy about DS-156 I was informed that she will be required to fill packet three information out online-is this correct and if so any information you can provide is of course appreciated. My fiance is annulled and I was told that she needs to check off the divorced box-does that follow procedure with what some of you have experienced? One last question. My fiance has an 8 year old son that will be coming with her as a K-2 derivitative. I keep looking for information about what is required for him-specifically is there a requirment of the father giving permission for him to leave the Philippines. My fiance has full custody but if a document is required I would like us to get it soon. In all my reading this issue is not mentioned at all. I thank you all in advance-your wonderful. Marlou&Ron

Ohh about the letter...the Verification of Employment from your current employer is very important. So you will submit with the I-134 the Verification of Employment Letter, ITR for the last 3 years, W2, and Paystubs.

My fiancee paid her visa fee at BPI and instead of validating her own DS-157 that has already been filled out, they gave her instead a blank DS-157 with validation of the payment at the back of the form. Didn't know that, so she has to fill out by hand the validated DS-157 form. Instead of making a photocopy of the written form can she just bring the printed one that was made prior as the duplicate of the DS-157??? I actually filled out those forms thru adobe acrobat in my computer and printed out here and sent it to her not knowing they will not validate it instead validate a blank one. Why they do that for?

Thanks guys! I know we read it somewhere in this forum that there was a mistake in the Packet info. We have all the forms ready and just waiting for the interview...please confirm if we got all DS forms right....

1. Prepare two (2) DS-156 electronically with 2 x 2 photos pasted on the space provided and signed.

2. Prepare two (2) DS-157 and have it validate by either BPI or Citibank upon payment of $100.

3. Prepare one (1) DS-156K (Do not sign until told by the Consul).

Anything we missed  ? Ohh for the DS-157, are they going to validate both forms or just one? Also for the medical at SLEC, I read somewhere that they only accept peso currency. Is that true? Can we pay in dollars instead? Thanks!

Coco Puff

Prepare one DS-156 electronically, then photo copy that. If you do two of them on line you will get two different bar codes, (my experience haha).

On the DS-157, BPI would only validate one, theirs, not ours. It was stamped on the back of the form.

I think you are correct on the DS-156K.

We paid the medical in pesos, and I recall someone else saying they only accepted pesos. We also paid the BPI interview fee in pesos.

Good Luck

You don't have to make a photo copy of the DS-156 to make 2 identical bar codes...just click 2 sets of copies when you print it  Thank you for the information about the currency accepted at SLEC.

I have another question with regards to CFO  My fiancee is going to CFO seminar after her early medical (that is the only way...she cannot do the other way around...not much time...medical is her priority  ). Will they admit her at the seminar without her passport? If so, what documents she needs to present? We understand that if we go thru this way we will need to go back there once we have her visa and passport to have CFO stamp.

Thanks!

Hi guys,

They want the photos pasted on the DS-156.

The DS-157 form is validated by the bank when you pay the visa fee. It may cause some confusion, since in the Packet 4 received by your fiancee, it says the DS-156 is the one validated. This is a mistake by the Embassy. I believe Sherrif Uling explained this very well in his very comprehensive KI guide you can find on his signature block. Check it out

Sending good thoughts and wishes to B&N who is right there on the stage now.. and to Judy of AlanluvsJudy tomorrow.

Will she be questioned upon entry at SLE why she came before her scheduled appointment? She still need to present her appointment letter right?

They won't ask why she's early. She just needs her appointment letter with her. Oh, and tell her not to glue her pictures onto her forms... I was given trouble for pasting mine...

Okay cool  She is scheduled to fly on 04/16 but we will try to reschedule it a week before so she can have it done soon.

Another question folks...about placing the picture on DS-156? Can we paste her 2 x 2 picture now on the Form DS-156 or wait until she gets to the USE? And which forms again need to be validated by the bank for the payment of $100? Thanks! :help:

For those of you who experienced or know for sure, does it matter if a girl is on her period during the time of her medical?

According to St Lukes it matters. Go early.

What if it happens you still have it during the scheduled appointment or the period arrive unexpectedly during the time you are there at St. Lukes? What are the consequences? My fiancee is worried so as I. Need opinion from experts :)

Hi cocopuff,

With your interview on April 25th, your fiancee's medical exam should be scheduled around April 18th, right?. She can go earlier than that.... 2 weeks to a month before April 18th should be ok. She can just time it so that the St. Luke's visit doesn't fall during her monthly cycle.

Good luck!

Gen

Thank you Gen! Will she be questioned upon entry at SLE why she came before her scheduled appointment? She still need to present her appointment letter right?

Quick question to those who have gone with the interview process...When the consul ask for documents of on-going relationship or bona-fide relationship ( I know we need to present letters/cards, emails, phone call logs, etc... ); we made copies of all those documents...should we provide the copies and show the originals OR just show the original documents? If COPIES only, how many ( just average ) you will show to the Consul? Can you give the whole stack of copies? :innocent:

Need your advise. Thank you!

CocO puff I was worried too, but the proof of relationship stuff we used copies and had no problems. I read somewhere ur fiancee should have originals in case they ask for verification, but i risked not sending them to my honey cause i waited till last minite(hee hee) but anyway the copies were fine.....but please bear in mind embassy does require some original docs like birth cert, cenomar, etc check the threads, etc.

Thank you Ken&Maria and Jello! Yea I ask about it because we actually made a lot of copies and we do not know if we need to present all when ask. Surely we will have the originals available during interview.

Regarding POE in San Francisco...they're very nice especially the Immigration Officers. I used to work at SFO as CSR with one of the airlines and got a chance to work with them and they're all friendly. Well in contrast with Customs Officer, they are more strict especially when it comes to illegal goods. And don't forget the friendly beagle dogs with them...so an advise...do not bring anything like fruits, plants, smelly food (or to be safe do not bring any food at all) and any other things listed illegal to bring to the US. These dogs are smarter than the Customs Officers  They can sniff you from a far and will stop you if they suspect you of bringing illegal goods. But overall SFO POE is better than Hawaii and LAX...its just my opinion

Just a question for those who have just received their visas...how many months is the validity of the visa? Is it less than 4 months or ... ?

Congratulations to all of you who just got the visas

Coco Puff

I think that once it is issued a visa is valid for 6 months. Once you enter the USA you must get married in 90 days (for a K-1).

Thank you! I just have to plan for my trip that's why
