Lol.. sounds nice! I've always been too scared to drink on the plane because I was worried that I'd get lost or something or come back to the states drunk while under 21! Now I'm 21 and can drink aaaall I want. I basically can be drunk the rest of my life, legally!

Igor the RU tv isn't good at all? I was kind of looking forward to getting the channel that shows the cartoons over there. The last time I was there and had the hardest time adjusting to the time change. I would watch a cartoon called "oggy and the cockroaches" easily one of my favorite things I watched when I couldn't sleep. I have been looking forward to watching them again.
I have all the good discovery channels and national geographics already. I can't miss my shark week even though it sucks this year.
That really bums me out about the RUtv though.

Lee, my best advice on watching Russian TV channels is to get a good sized monitor and a good, reliable high-speed internet connection.... the following is a post I put on the Russian forum a few months ago.-----

I've spent about 10 years searching for and watching Russian TV channels online with mixed results. I would find a site that works fine... but within a month or two the connection quality would begin to deteriorate or disappear completely.

By FAR the best site I've found is www.worldstreamtv.com . The site has been up for about 2 years now that I'm aware of. Subscribers have access to a large number of radio stations online. As for TV, there are 20 channels available online, including Channel One, RTR, CTC, TNT, NTV, and Vesti. You can watch live streams of programs from these channels, or you can time-shift entire streams a certain number of hours, or you can record specific programs for viewing at your convenience, and many of the more popular programs are automatically recorded and available as Video-on-Demand. If you have a high-speed internet connection, the quality is just like watching TV. They have a number of test links which will allow you to check out the service and quality against your particular internet connection speed.

A monthly subscription of $10 allows you to watch live or time-shifted streams. An additional $6 a month also gives you the TV recorder and free access to the Video-on-Demand. You can cancel the service at any time and you keep access through the end of the month in which you cancel. A number of our Russian friends here in America will subscribe in December and January to get access to all of the New Year's programs and then cancel their service because they simply don't have time to watch so much TV.

Now that's what I'm talking 'bout! This is real RU tv, not this US made POS. Thanks for posting this up!!!

That way she'll have something to do while we wait for work authorization. Since I have directv w I am going to get the Russian channels for her to avoid homesickness. WHat are you guys doing to combat homesickness for your SO?

Lee, take my word for it: avoid RU tv at all costs. It is disgusting rubbish that is made in the US under "RU TV" idea. Has little to do with actual RU tv and it is just pathetic! If I were you, get her some spectacular channels like Discovery and likes.

I'm actually starting to feel fortunate that we don't have any household items or things of our own yet! We each have a laptop to our name and loads of cds.. that's about it! It will be great to look for the apartment together and pick out little household things like couches and dishware.. It's so exciting to think about! I think Craigslist will be a wonderful investment of our time for the first few months.. hehe.

Craigslist is a great resource!!! And I've heard IKEA is a good place as well!

Ooo IKEA is nice too, lots of fun and affordable furniture. IKEA from craigslist would be ideal.. happy.gif Seattle is a big college and to be honest... tree hugger environment.. there will be lots of things to choose from on used-but-new-to-me furniture.

Do not get anything from IKEA! Their stuff is JUNK! Hit your local craigslist and keep your eyes open for yard sales/estate sales. You can scoop out really good furniture for best to nothing. My family's friends got all of their antique furniture from yard sales. It will last and outlast your kids, but do not buy stuff from ikea!!!

why not?!I have had excellent experience with them! headbonk.gif May be u dont like modern style..

Well, I am not excited about what they do. Plus, once you build it, you can't take it apart. It is just that bad in terms of quality. For myself I have decided to never go to IKEA when I will be looking into getting furniture. A lot of people like their furniture, including my own older brother, but sorry, it doesn't fly by me. It just looks cheap and it isn't durable.

I've been reading the posts but don't have much to say lately. It's a bit depressing seeing all you guys finishing up the process while I am still to wait till January... but all in all, we are doing things how we're supposed to and I think we'll definitely benefit in the long run with his army service done.. properly.

I'm really glad everyone is going smoothly out of the process and AP and into the bigger details such as interviews and even POE, it's uplifting and makes it more hopeful that Lampros will have no problem later on.

Does anyone use international texting from their mobile phones? What company do you have and what are the costs, out of curiosity?

Thanks Lee... It will happen, VSC seems to be on one of their "ROLLS"... and the CSC seems to be the laggard again... strange how this happens. Nevertheless for the sake of all my new friends and family I am glad that the sleeping giant, Vermont, has woke up!!! Four more approvals today so far and more than likely a few more will get updated tomorrow... yeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaa... I really was starting to worry that something was wrong, or that after all this waiting I would get some sort of unexplained RFE which would delay everything even longer. Thank the gods that this part at least is finally over. I've been waiting so long that the waiting itself started to become some sort of habit. I've got to get ahold of myself or else I'm going to go nuts with happiness!

I'm absolutely going to make the trip there to go to the interview. She already has everything mostly in order to come to the states, so as soon as she has the visa in hand we're going to travel back together. I can't wait!

I'm going to pour myself another sangria! Thank you everyone for the cheerful support!

Sangria? I didnt know you were Spanish... smile.gif

I really am soooooooooo happy for you and the LUPY one... and after all the torment... go nuts dude... you deserve it!

Not a drop of spanish blood in me. Mostly scottish with a little polish. I sold my house 2 weeks ago and while I'm looking for a new place to rent for awhile for me and my SO, I'm bunking up at my parents place that have a small vineyard. Everyday I take the leftover tasting bottles and mix up some sangria to take the edge off. And up until tonight that has been one serious edge.

Your day will come soon!

Now that Igor got his NOA2, you can wait here in limbo with me. Feels more like hell, but apparently it's supposed to end soon. I hope you get yours and get to be with your SO asap.

Guys, we all have the same date. Don't worry, it will come next week. When you least expect it by the way. Hang it there, it was too hard for me to, but I got through, so will you! I got mine on Friday at the end of the week, so I think you will be getting it next week. Just don't stress. It will come when you least expect it. I'll be thinking of you guys! Just hang in there, go do your everyday thing and it will come!

Quick story about 3 hrs. Last fall my SO and I decided to re-unite on a trip to Europe. She arranged her tickets in such way that I was to be waiting for her. GHer flight was only 3 hrs and I had 7, hour "break" (barely made it to the connection flight in Frankfurt) and 40 minute one. So here I am, laded in Prague, got my laguage, found the terminal where she was landing, absolutely beat by the lack of sleep during my flights, it is 1pm and she was supposed to land at 3:50. Have you ever tried sitting in front of a big clock and waiting for 3 hrs? Painful, but the joy of being re-united is to die for!

Was it an email? Just check the USCIS website?

You are next! We have the same date. I got an email from uscis. At first I started thinking what did I buy yesterday because it said "receipt bla bla bla" in the subject line. Hang in there, you will get it next!

Thanks to my VJ family!

Doesn't look like I'm going to get mine in the month of July. Oh well. Congrats to you though Igor. Tip one back for me if you can.

Definitely will, no question about it! You stay cool, it will come next week good.gif

It would be very nice if it came next week. Again, not to be too much of a pessimist, but we've seen that they seem to hurry up to finish a bunch at the end of the month and then slow down quite a lot for the first half of the next month. I have no other choice but to wait and try to be optimistic. I'm just really not looking forward to getting familar with the 6+ month forum here.

I'm kicking myself for sending a large petition. I didn't even think for a moment that it might be a reason why it's being delayed (if that is the reason). If a large file looks like it will take awhile to adjudicate, and they get scored (if that is the right term to use) on how many files they can crank out.. then why would someone pick up a large file when they could take 2 thinner ones instead?

Stay positive! Mine was a REALLY thick one too!

Congrats Igor. Maybe mine is stuck to the back of yours and my approval will come today? I hope so. Hope hope hope so.

Sort of related: if I am going to be with her for the interview time, can I bring my papers over instead of sending them?

Thanks.

Igor, I'm sorry they don't have it yet....but they are working through Feb still...there isn't much you can do but wait...I hope tomorrow is your day, but if not, it should be soon. You can also head to your congressmen's site and start getting ready to ask for their help (at 6 months). Hopefully you just get your approval SOON!

Also you should be able to bring the papers. But if your fiancee needs to send them in to the embassy prior to the interview, it might be better to just get them to her early....

Dave

Dave, thanks for your support and help!

If it doesn't come tomorrow, find me in Bawstin and bring me home type of drinking I will do.

I will gladly drink with you tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be toasting to getting past this part of the process instead of still waiting for some drone in some cube to get around to deciding when I get to be with the one I love. It's the not knowing that wears me down. If I knew that it would be another few weeks or a month or MORE I would gladly wait. Or I would get on a plane and just go for another visit. As it is, being at the mercy of a damn email or letter in the mailbox is driving me nuts.

Amen.

I have a really hard time with rings. I really want to get my SO a beautiful ring, but I want to bang my head against the wall. There is nothing available besides "rock placed on a ring" type of design (if you can call it design at all). I want something beautiful and unique. Might have to end up looking for one when I am in Moscow. Same goes for rings... I've looked through hundreds of pages - nothing that would make me want them.

Unfortunately they do not design rings from the man's point of view, but the American Woman's point of view smile.gif a rock on a ring... and the bigger the rock the better.... smile.gif

That's exactly why I am against engagement rings.

Have you checked out Etsy? There are tons of creative people making unique jewelry.

And this guy here makes really beautiful rings, too, and you can also order them long-distance: http://www.surprisegold.com/ Not cheap, but more economical than a big rock, and MUCH more unique... I personally am in love with his work.

Much less expensive, and also very unique are the rings from this site: http://www.turtlelovecommittee.com/

There's many options besides the "classic" American engagement ring!

I love the second link. I just forwarded it to Oksana. That is what I am looking for. I despise wearing jewelery in general so I said I wanted to pick something that is low key and looks comfortable. Thank you for the links. I have been driving myself crazy for something like that.

I'm glad you like them! We couldn't order from them because they don't seem to make my size (I have VERY small fingers, less than 4.5 -- although I didn't check if they do custom sizes as well). But I do think the Turtle Love Committee rings rock!

I have no earthly idea what Oksana's size is. She is little, but not extremely so we should be ok. Pending her approval of course. It's just not that big of a deal to me. If you know of any other sites like that I wouldn't hate you for posting them here.

Lee, I'd like to warn you that even though there is a conversion table for sizes US vs EU, things are still off. Make sure when you buy, you can re-size or just pick something while Oksana is there to try it on.

Igor have you been calling NVC? They may already have your approval. Just remember you have to speak to a real live person since they don't put K-1's in the automated system.

No, I haven't yet.
