K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDecember Filers

Hopefully it's all true, but I just rec'd an email, Post Decision Activity: "We mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)." Anyway, I think I'm super lucky if it's true.

I wish you all good luck. I really like the December Filer forum. It's so organized and friendly. I'm a January filer, but visited this one the most. Does anyone know what I do now that I'm approved. My brain is reeling. I can actually plan a wedding now... Assuming we get past all the other hurdles.

Wow, that's quick! Congratulations!

Next step is that the file goes to the NVC (National Visa Center) where it will be allocated to the appropriate embassy (Manila, maybe?). A reference code will be created (if Manila, it will start MNL) which you will be able to get from the NVC by phone, or it may be on the NOA2 hard-copy when you receive it.

After that, it's make sure that you have all the required information for the interview (birth certificate, police certificate(s), I-134 with accompanying proofs, etc) - not sure if the Philippines have an extra interview stage or not  Arrange medical once you have the reference code, interview, visa approval, move, party on

I think

thanks for the warm welcome :D :D

and thanks for the super useful links. i'm wondering if i should be getting all this stuff together before we receive the noa2, or what the chances are if i get police checks and medical recs and such, when the time comes they might be deemed outdated.

i have a bad case of ants in the pants. lol.

all i know is when we hear back next, you're going to hear my screeches of joy from wherever you're sitting! uk, usa or otherwise!

The police certificate is apparently valid for 1 year (UK at least), so I'm thinking that I'll send off for that later in Feb, and the medical cannot be done until you have the LDN reference from the London embassy, so after NOA2 has been done.

I think I'm right Posted Image

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDECEMBERITE FAMILY 2010 Part 2
Arrived and settled Posted Image

DHL picked up my 11 boxes of stuff on Monday morning at about 11.30, so the journey really started. Loaded up at 6.45am Tuesday morning for the journey to LHR for the flight - Mum, Dad and my brother came with us, brother driving a rented Ford Galaxy to get all of us plus luggage in.

Got into Chicago O'Hare a few minutes early and headed off for Immigration.

I cornered a CBP officer and confirmed with him that I needed to complete a white I-94 and that the customs declaration only needed to have the back completed if I was bringing with me things that I'd had for less than a year or was planning on selling in the US.

Joined the immigration queue - we actually joined the USC/LPR queue as they said it didn't matter which. Got a youngish female CBP officer who took the brown envelope, opened it and started stamping forms left, right and centre (sorry, center ). She chatted away with the two of us (Gin had come over to the UK a few days before so that we could journey back together), stamped everything that needed to be stamped and sent us on our way.

Picked up the bags from the carousel and went through to the customs point - they looked at the declarations, and waved is on through - even with 4 large suitcases, two cabin cases and two backpacks Posted Image

No stresses at immigration/customs whatsoever! No secondary, nothing Posted Image Of course, that hadn't stopped me getting stressed about what could happen when the plane was coming in to land...

Over 3 hours at O'Hare, then onward flight to SLC where we were picked up by Gin's parents in her dad's old pick-up with topper (the only vehicle big enough for 4 people plus all the luggage Posted Image).

Home and in bed by about 10.30pm.

Wednesday, and we were up early (the joys of an early night!) ready for errands - Gin handed me the keys to the car so that I could start getting used to driving in the US (only done it once before for a week on holiday) and we were off up to the county seat for the marriage license, then T-Mobile for my new sim card (Gin and her family are on T-Mob so it's easier, even though I do lose 3G from my iPhone), and finally grocery stores for bits and pieces.

Got home for lunch and there were the 11 boxes dumped on the drive - a little battered and bruised from their journeys though. We had lunch and then dived into the boxes - all 11 unpacked and some of the stuff sorted away by dinner time. Only a few breakages (5 glasses, a mug, a Le Creuset baking dish and a sponge tin dented to buggery), so not too bad all considered.

The stresses and strains then left me in bed all day yesterday suffering, but I'm better today, so hopefully it'll all be OK now, and, of course, Gin is off work as it's the weekend from tonight Posted Image

Only thing left to sort is my health insurance - the company I was going to go with (Humana) requires me to have lived in the US for 6 months prior to taking out the insurance, so back to square one. Gin's health insurance from her employer is a lot more money to add me on than the quotes I was getting, so if we can beat that, it'd be good. More to look into tonight and this weekend, I think - wonder if I'll have to speak to an insurance agent...

If you're watching the Igor Timeline page, that depends on people updating their timelines, so if people had petition approvals on the 13th or 14th and haven't updated their timelines, then it would appear that no petitions were approved.

Form DS-157 Q9 states "List all countries you have visited in the last ten years (Give the year of each visit)" so you don't need to be more accurate than that (don't need month or day for that form).

You do have to be more accurate on the dates of any trips to the US for form DS-156 though (Q.29)

Police certs are not required for AOS. Not sure how the medical is getting mixed up in this...

The medical for a K-1 in London requires a copy of the police certificate.

Little_g - the reception people at the medical took all my originals and photocopied everything, and then passed the originals back to me.

United Kingdomone final interview dilema

Gould's Pharmacy near the embassy on North Audley Street has secure storage, I think

From the embassy website - left luggage locations

If you're not bringing anything electronic like a phone or mp3 player, then use a smaller bag (carrier or similar?) and you won't need to store anything, according to the website

All the Excess Baggage places at the stations appear to be 7am though :(

United KingdomGP Medical Records

Hi all Again :)
I was thinking of taking my medical records when I move to America, but I saw the receptionist and she told me they belong to the NHS so I cannot take them. Do I need them to register with a health center in America or not. Has anyone had this problem.
Thanks in anticipation
Dave :)

You can't take the original records with you, but you can take copies, at a cost - I think my doctor's surgery charges £10 for a print-out of the computer-only information, and £50 for copies of everything including the old hand-written stuff.

Signed MRV Application Fee receipt Nothing to do with mailing K1 visa application forms. Pay before you attend the interview and take the email receipt to the interview to show you've paid. It just streamlines the interview day process. They will assign you an interview paid or not, but would like you to pay prior to your interview day so it's sorted.

Thanks, Nick - here's where my confusion is with the MRV:

Posted Image

Notice in the area I've highlighted with a red box, it talks about submitting it with the completed visa application package.
rallybugMaleEngland2011-05-17 08:05:00
United KingdomPlease Help! Packet 3!
There are some inconsistencies (to my mind, anyway) between the instructions.

The letter from the embassy states to return forms DS-230 Part I, 2 x DS-156, DS-156K, 2 x DS-157 and checklist DS-2001 before an appointment will be scheduled.

Form DS-2001 only says that it must be returned with from DS-230 Part I (none of the other forms are mentioned).

The receipt for the visa fee says that you must sign the receipt and submit it with your completed visa application package - no signed receipt in the package = application returned unprocessed.

So, adding the three together, I must send in a package of:

Covering letter quoting name, e-mail address, case number, date of wedding, date of medical.
Form DS-2001 signed, dated and completed
Signed MRV Application Fee receipt
Form DS-230 Part I signed & dated (part II doesn't need to be in the package?)
Form DS-156 signed & dated (two copies of)
Form DS-156K
Form DS-157 (two copies of)

Is that right?

I think I have that right anyway ;) I'm not bringing a letter of intent because we got our interview within the validity period of the NOA2 nor am I taking evidence of our relationship. I've read over all the reviews of London and I don't believe I've seen anyone needing those.

I suppose I'm looking at it as: If I don't take it, I'll need it, but if I do take it, I won't Posted Image

United KingdomGetting Married In the UK then moving to the US? Will we need Visas?
NavarreMan is correct - I worked it out a few weeks ago and, at current prices, a K-1 Fiance(e) visa to citizenship in the USA will cost about $3,350 in fees alone, and would take around 4 years to get citizenship from the time the USC files the petition.

Add in flights and incidentals, and it could easily reach $8000 or more.

My fiance and I have been browsing the costs of flights and they are insane! We are hoping by the time my fiance comes over they go down a bit....heres hoping.

I know! We're trying to ignore that cost for now Posted Image

United KingdomBringing interview date forward?

No need to move interview. You have 6 months to enter once you have your visa. That time in-between will be welcomed. :)

Ah, but our plan all along has been getting married on Sept 20th this year, and I want to be there beforehand to help with the prep etc

United KingdomBringing interview date forward?
I've got my interview date now (18th July) which is, obviously, a fair distance in the future - and, from a flight cost point of view, pretty close to the date I wish to emigrate (23rd August).

Is there any way to move the date forward - for example, could I call the embassy (painfully-expensive) line and ask if they've had any cancellations and ask for that slot?

United KingdomCell/Mobile phones when you get to the USA?

My husband says if it's a UK phone, then it's GSM. The US providers that he can use are AT&T or T-Mobile. A sim card from them can be used in his UK version of Droid.

Not all GSMs are equal - AT&T use the same frequencies for 3G as the UK providers, T-Mobile USA does not. So, unless the phone you're bringing with you has a 1700Mhz band (instead of or as well as the UK-norm 1900Mhz and 2100Mhz), then you wouldn't get 3G on T-Mobile. This is the problem that a lot of USCs get after jailbreaking their iPhones - they can then use them on T-Mobile USA, but the data speed is only EDGE (or 2.5G).

United KingdomDrivers Licences...
No, you shouldn't need your SSN to open a bank account, although it will probably make it slightly easier as they can tick all the boxes in the right order  I opened my account with WF back in June last year, when we hadn't even applied for K1.

United KingdomWhy did you decide to make the move to the USA and not the other way?

My fiance is considering working remotely for the UK based company, too. Have you found any information on it? We've been searching everywhere but can't find anything concrete on the legality of it all

It was starting to look a bit dodgy when looking into the ins and outs of working remotely while living in the US before getting EAD, so the boss and I have come to an agreement over a parting of the ways (he was a little worried about the time difference) but when I speak to him even now, he still umms and aahhs Posted Image

So, come August/September, I'll be a house-husband until I work out what to do Posted Image

United KingdomWhy did you decide to make the move to the USA and not the other way?
My fiancee has a house, two dogs and is an accountant, so she'd need to do some re-training to stay in the same field if she moved here instead of me to the UK. Along with that, our combined salaries would barely reach an apartment here, let alone a house with room for the dogs.

On the flip side, there's a chance I could continue working remotely for my existing UK employer after moving to the US, otherwise I start again over there. I sold my apartment here in 2009, and am currently living back with my parents, so there's not as much upheaval from this end.

As previously mentioned by others, once I have US citizenship, we may choose to come to the UK until my fiancee (wife, by then) could eventually obtain UK citizenship.
