Really? I guess maybe Stop and Shop just sucks.

No Need to guess!

And for those who keep telling us to look in the "Larger stores like Albertsons" All we have is Stop&Shop, they are the biggest chain in the North East. They have a 275 stores compared to Albertson's who has 2500 or something. They are a two bit player who should be wiped off the face of the planet if you ask me. All of the other chains here are puny too. Theres very little innovation in grocery here. Cant even get creamed chipped beef! What up with that???

MEAT
====

The lamb is at least double here and most of it is not even lamb, it is mutton.

And the Beef, well, if you are used to beef from western canada you wouldn't notice the difference but the beef here in Connecticut is a substandard grade for the most part just like the Alberta stuff.

If you want regular aged beef that is the standard in Ontario it is called Premium beef here and only available in specialty shops at outrageous prices.

Pork is a lot cheaper here so I eat a lot of tenderloin and pork chops now.

MILK
===

In Canada, we had that "True Filtered" stuff that when processed was stamped with an expiry date out two months. The regular milk from time to time had one month expiry dates on it. Here it goes bad in a week. That tells me that the milk here is full of bacteria. No thanks.. Im not drinking milk that wont last a week in the fridge so I buy this Organic ultra pasteurized stuff. It is 3.50 to 3.99 for a half gallon. Two half gallons are still 220 ml short of a 4 litre bag.

I went though this last year. It was tough at first. However, I have replaced almost everything with stuff that is better in most cases than I could get in Canada. Bread was a big issue but I found that finally. The only thing I cant get that I would like are Smarties.. But now we have Hersheys Mini Candy Coated Kisses which I feel are better than Smarties. Just keep trying different stuff. A lot will be disappointing but a lot will be better.

There is NO substitute down here for KD. And some of the subs are pricey.. Beef here is at least double what it is in Canada and don't get me started on Milk. Good quality milk is 7.00 USD a gallon here at Stop And Shop.

On the perogies front, I dont think the Trader Joes are as good as Mrs T's.. they sell them at Stop And shop.

That sounded like a good experience. My Montreal airport experience was not so great. It was only 15 - 20 minutes tops but that leaves you sitting, stuck in the airport for 3 hours waiting.

Yak.

Lets see. Chew tinfoil or do taxes. I dont like the leaving Canada returns where you need to value all your assets. And what about cary forwards of CNIL and self employment home office deductions and T1176. Ack. Makes me want to ralph at the thought of it all. I used to do my own taxes back when we had just T4's. It was easy. Then we bought an apartment and rented it out. On disposition we had a huge capitol loss. I got audited that year. I was writing my car off as I was an independant contractor. What a right royal pain. I still have paperwork all over the place from that mess.

My wife and I did this. However, you need to go up to Canada and order the criminal record check. You can order the fingerprint check from the US but that will take six months.

Canadaco-signing of a lease in Canada
Residency in what way? Taxation? or Domicile for Immigration purposes. These are two different things. Your place of Domicile is where you are hanging your hat. Your residency for tax purposes.. well, the cosigned lease is just one of many things Revenue Canada can use against you if you in court if you have Canadian sourced income that you don't pay Canadian taxes on. I don't think the US cares at all. You have to file your taxes as a resident of the US anyways.

Ughhh Swiss Chick.. I used to like it but then they changed the bun to that thing that tastes like a bar of soap. But I cant find decent fried chicken here. Its all dripping in grease. I will have to try Boston market but its so busy, noisy, and dirty. We eat in a lot more here.

My wife got a Macys card with her Canadian SIN too. Turns out, her SIN mapped to someones SSN. Watch that Macys. Its a pain changing your SIN to SSN when you get it. And it makes a nice entry on your credit report when it happens too.

CanadaWell rats! I'm getting a checklist for items missed
I only had Canadian income. So your adjusted gross goes to zero after the foreign tax credit. I just sent them the tax transcripts and then I put down my Canadian GROSS income, less exchange on the I-864, I highlighted those amounts on the transcripts. I also sent my Canadian returns. It worked for me, they seem to know how to deal with it. However, I got it all shoved back at me at the interview time. They said they dont want to see anything Canadian. I told my wife to crunch down.

They don't seem to have the same policy in the US for coffee freshness that they have in Canada. Although, when we stopped at one in Ohio last year (can't remember which city), it was pretty good, but the pot was just finished dripping. That was about noon-time.

I was in the one in Mystic CT, and it was almost exactly the same. I was never a big Timmies fan but DD coffe doesn't taste better, it doesnt taste like anything. Its so weak, its not even worth ordering. But a bad timmies, Ugh.. I hate those. Or a leaker with floaters. Yummy Tims.

CanadaAny advice on SSN woes?
I think the issue you are having is that you have no credit rating, not that you have no SSN in the system. THats fairly normal for a new number. To get a credit rating, you need a credit card. Or a loan or mortgage. Best thing to do is be an authorized user on someone elses card or get a secured card. The biggest factors in your credit rating are the length of time you have had credit and your debt to credit ratio. Dont become an authorized user on someones card who has bad credit. Get a secured card instead.

CanadaEasy way to build credit
Man, you know, these companies are forked. The issue is, you gave them your SIN, and they will report to the credit bureaus like that SIN was an SSN.

I hope your SIN doesnt map to the SSN of some litigious credit savy American.

My wifes mapped to a dead person. So no harm done I guess.

CanadaFiling joint US taxes this year...
.9990 ?????????????????

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Canadian Bucks for 2007 convert at 0.93565

Thats the average rate. You do not use the 12/31 rate Jeez

Not that it matters much since you exclude all the tax and it washes out. But if you are like my wife who still gets paid in Canadian dollars and reports it all to the IRS.. well, its a big difference.

And no, don't send in his T4.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHas anyone ever filed TWO I-130's?
I have not filed another I-130 but you should have filed a petition for action on an approved petition and payed a fee in order to move the I-130 from the US to the overseas post. Did you file that and pay the fee?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresre: Social Security number after CR-1
Oh the horrors of it all.

The government couldnt create a computer system that works to save their lives. I would advise people to just avoid the confusion of the 1 2 3 scenario and not partake in EAE at all. Just go the the SS office and apply a couple of weeks after entry. They will send your card in a week. No danger of two numbers that way.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOpinions on whether a lawyer can help with this
At this point, Id just withdraw it and file a new I-130 and K3 application and be done with it. Whatever problems it may cause it could harldly be worse. You have a simple and believable explanation for the withdrawl of the original petition. I dunno, thats just me. Moving your I-130 to the CSC or wherever it needs to go, will not help speed it up. I doubt it will get any special priority and to top it all off, it will not even be filled out corectly and may be delayed further after it is approved because it isnt filled out properly.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresGetting Frustrated - DS-3032 and AOS bill questions
Nope only one DS3032 needed from the immigrant.

Address for IV Fee bill, last I checked almost a year ago was

National Visa Center
P.O. Box 952201
St Louis MO
63195-2201

Now, you cant courier to a PO box so best you can do is US express post. (4 Days) If you sent the DS3032 in allready and named your wife the agent, they will mail it to her in the US and not you. Odd your wife did not get the DS3032, has she moved?

I was in the same situation as you. I had to move to the US before my wife was approved. My wife came down to "visit" while her Visa was processing. It only suckedbecause she was doing a lot of consulting work in Canada and had to fly back and forth all the time knowing she might be denied entry to the US but it never happened and everything was fine.

Good luck!

Unless you have Corp or LLC after your name, nobody cares about you. Especially the government. These premium processed Visas are mostly for Indian "Software Engineers" who are needed to do business analysis and system design. Can she email you a digital photo? That would be best. Then take it to a photo place so they can print it on good paper if you dont have a printer. I would not send a photo that was not 2" x 2". They need them that size in order to create the Visa and green card etc.
