No offense to anyone here but I am getting really confused. Could anyone please concretely tell me if a CENOMAR (certificate of NO marriage) is absolutely needed for an interview in the Manila embassy. I see a lot of round and round talk some say yes some say no. I have not seen anything on the embassy website saying it is needed for the interview. I don't want any delays. We have been married for almost 2 years now and want to be sure she will have all she needs for the interview.

Joe

If you will look on the US embassy website, specifically Manila, you will only see that the CENOMAR is listed as a requirement for K1 (to prove that they are single) but with the testimonials of those who already have their interview for IR1/CR1 visa, the MARRIAGE INDEX is part of the requirement....and to obtain the Marriage index, you have to go to NSO or request online( whichever is convenient for you) . My husband got our Marriage index certificate recently and he was ask by the NSO personnel to fill up a request form which is the same form he used when he got his CENOMAR before we got married.

I'd rather be in a position wherein I have the document and the CO didn't ask for it THAN for them to ask for something and I don't have anything to show. Hope this helps yes.gif

The CENMAR will be needed at the interview not at NVC stage. I didn't hire a lawyer so, I can't really comment on that. I just did a lot of reading especially here on VJ and with God's help and guidance, we were able to complete our case at USCIS and NVC without delays. Wish you'll have a speedy process, too!!! godbless!

Thanks for the NVC phone number, we will call them later. Are you 100% sure I don't need to send my CENMAR to NVC? I'm sorry but I just want to make sure not to leave any important document behind for our case to be completed in NVC.

I'm 100% sure that CENOMAR will be needed at interview. My friend who had his interview Feb.25 is already married, didn't have the Marriage Index at interview...this caused him delays because the US embassy will not process his Visa until he submits the certificate I mentioned.

Greetings!

Why CENOMAR? when you are already married? if you got married few months back in the philippines it will only take them few weeks to endorse your marriage certificate to NSO, so by this time if you will request one it will show that you are married.

I think it is only needed for K1 applicant as they need to prove that they are single.

so, if some people got married in the philippines and still was able to get CENOMAR then it is just so clear that the NSO updates things too late.

p.s CENOMAR stands for certificate of no marriage.

just my two cents,
griffin

If you're already married and you get a CENOMAR, the record of your marriage such as the date of the wedding and the name of your spouse will appear on the certificate.

Yap, it is needed for K1 visa to prove that they are single AND for IR1/CR1 visa to prove that they are married with the person petitioning them. There is really no name to call that certificate but the process is the same as obtaining the CENOMAR to get that Marriage Index.

Hey Club, do you have any idea how to check the status of our case in NVC online using our case number?

I don't think they have ONLINE CASE STATUS CHECK...but you can call 1-603-334-0700 and follow the prompt to hear the latest update on your case. I used to call this number everyday( laughing.gif ) while I'm processing the petition paper of my husband. It gives you an idea about the progress of your case.

My husband and I just sent out our I-130 petition, so does that mean they want an original marriage certificate, and what not. :|

Or is this just in the Philippines?

I believe it's a general requirement for processing your case at the NVC ( certified true copy of the marriage certificate). But the marriage index depends on the US embassy post where you're going to have your interview.

Hey guys, I just learned from our lawyer after paying the AOS and IV fees, the NVC mailed him a letter stating they have received the payment plus some instructions. And that includes sending them the originals of all the photocopied documents we sent them. My question is, what will I bring on my interview? Isn't it one of their requirements is to present the originals during the interview? Will anyone please share their personal experience on this matter?

One more thing, for Philippines CR/IR filers who already had their interview, is it true that even though we are married and have our marriage contract from the NSO with us, we still have to present a certificate of no marriage (CENOMAR) record? If it is, then this will definitely delay our case. sad.gif

I wish us all the best of luck in getting our visa soon!!! GOD BLESS US!!!
[/quot

We requested multiples copies ( 4 certified copies) of each of our documents from NSO before we started the process. yes, we need to submit original and photocopies of those documents to NVC. I would suggest that if you don't have anymore originals, provided that you will give your last copy to NVC, to start to request more from NSO so that by the time that you will have your interview ( which is around 2 mons after your case is completed), you already have original certified copies in your hand to present to CO.

My husband haven't had his interview yet but a friend of mine had his and the CENOMAR ( Marriage Index for married people) is one of the requirements. You can get your CENOMAR now while waiting for your case to be completed from NVC to avoid delays when your interview comes. Hope this helps!

Where is everyone else at? It's always helpful to do a process like this together. I know the Dec/Jan people did and it helped them!

Good luck all!

hi...i just want to ask if u mailed the ds 230 without the mail from the NVC.we paid already the IV bill

Once it shown "PAID" online status, you can start sending ur stuff. I took a chance and sent my stuff while still PENDING on my paid status and they got it there, I did the PRIORITY MAIL THOUGH, buy me 2-3 days while the funds clear my account. Goodluck, you will get there... natapos sa amin ng mga 25 days pero 2 RFE and 1 holiday. You can beat the system if you have eevrything ready on hand. Ang record ay 11 days done and completed by the NVC.

what about the barcode on the form.we paid the IV bill thru a money order not online

If you pay the bills with money order, I think you have to wait for the instruction package from NVC. Kasi pag-online nagbayad, once the status becomes "PAID", you can print the bar-coded coversheet yourself and it needs to be attached to your document package. It'll probably take a week or two to receive the instruction package kc parang ordinary mail lang ang ginagamit ng NVC.

Your wife needs to put the name of the agent that she appoints. If she appoints you, the spouse, then she should put your name and your address then she signs it.

Hey Everybody,

Figured I should give an update on our visajourney.

Lara had her medical--Had to get a Gardasil shot... Didn't expect that! (Cervical Cancer is not contagious!)

Had her interview on Friday, April 3rd, 2009
EASY, 2 questions:

What does your husband do for a living?
&
How did you meet?

They didn't ask to see any of the photos or other proof she brought.
and that was it!

Only problem was her passport photos (she had to show her ears--something new I think)
They have a machine in the Frankfurt Embassy, so no worries.

Visa Approved!

She picked up her Visa yesterday! April 7th 2009
She could have got it a day sooner, but didn't have the time to drive to Frankfurt on Monday.

We bought her plane tickets in advance, so in 5 days Lara will be in the United States as a Permanent Resident! (Conditional, of course)

April 13th 2009!

One day before our 1-year Wedding Anniversary! biggrin.gif

All together from the Notice of Action #1 till she picked up her Visa was 99 days!

Faster than I ever expected!

Now I have to clean the house before she gets home and kills me! hahaha

Congratulations and wish you both a happy reunion!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer advised to file Single, even though Married
I have a quick comment (in a hurry) ... for the IRS you can't be single if you are married ... your choices are married filing joint and married filing separately ... get TIN no matter which status you use because you need to include it

You probably won't get caught or punished but if you want to file correctly then don't file single ...

Note: I teach tax accounting at a university so I know the rules.

Hi, On December 15, 2008, we also got an RFE Request for an Initial Evidence. They asked my fiance's Birth certificate, his divorce decree and our G-325A. We havent able to submit his birth certificate and his divorce decree. But G-325A we did able to send it but i dont know maybe they lost it.

Goodluck!!

I got the same problem too.we filed for AP last december with all the requirements, then we got a mail from the USCIS last march 7 for RFE asking for my 2x2 photos. But im very sure that we sent it already. Sometimes they misplace or lost papers and that makes the case take longer than it should be.

Hi Mandy. If I can, I would like to offer input, although my husband is not a MENA man. With that being said, I don't think this is a MENA man issue so much as it is a MAN issue...Even so, there are several things in your post that have me concerned about the validity of his feelings for you...and clearly, you might be feeling the same way, or there would be no need for this post. One of the biggest red flags that I see is the excuses your SO has seemed to come up w/ as to why you can't be together. I can understand that he does not want to move here to the states and would possibly like to live in Europe or his home country, but what man, that truly loves you and adores you and your family, would turn down the opportunity for you to join him whereever he is? I know that if I told my husband that I would be willing to move to Jamaica tomorrow he would be grinning like a cheshire cat! And the fact that he is telling you that it's "ok" if you find another man in the states--really? He's virtually giving you permission to do what you want to do? Now I come in the MENA forum from time to time to look around, and I can tell you that this certainly doesn't sound like a man who truly loves you and who is truly committed to you. Hell, any man who says it's ok for his wife or SO to go be with another man is obviously doing his own thing so it doesn't matter to him what you do, and there is no real substance to this relationship. IAnd the fact that noone that he cares about and loves knows about you says to me that he is hiding you from them for whatever reason. IMO, I don't think that he sees this relationship going anywhere. While he may like you, you said so yourself, he has not admitted to loving you--and there is no way your relationship can progress any further if you two are not on the same page. I could be wrong, and I pray to God that I am, so if you do go to Morrocco I think that you two need to have MANY SERIOUS conversations about his true feelings and intent...and where he sees this whole thing going. I would hate for you to put any more time, energy, and emotion into someone who is not willing to do the same for you. You deserve better than that. I am sorry if I sound harsh. I just want you to be careful. heart.gif

For a while CSC have been processing faster than VSC and I was delighted to get sent there. I sent my application on 01/05/2009 so expect to hear sometime before July. The USCIS web site says 6 months, but people have been getting it in 3-4 months. Just the last day or two 2 people in VSC got theirs approved within 40 days of sending it!!!! What's going on? It's great news for them obviously. Just wondering if CSC is running fast now too? Anyone got approved through CSC recently?

Hi there! There have been alot of CSC approvals in the last couple of weeks. Check out the VSC to CSC transfer thread somewhere around here. I'm waiting patiently for approval of our petition. It was transferred to CSC back on Jan. 15. I was just looking at the uscis website, and it is showing that now VSC is processing CR1's in the normal 6 month time frame, so maybe that is good news for everyone! IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVermont Moving
I think what with all the Transfers in Dec we have seen to California, we shall see the I 130's return to a more reasonable approval time. Perhaps it was the election and all the new citizens they were pushing through was the cause of the the backlog growing. Now that's over things should start to move along nicely. good.gif

I should imagine also that Senators and Congressmen get a little tired of having to spend their valuable time dealing with calls from frustrated citizens regarding as to why they have to wait so long for their spouse to join them.

I personally feel that the whole process is a way of controlling US Immigration. Given the numbers each year that are coming to live in the US be it legal or illegal, there has to be some form of brakes put on immigration. It just happens that it is easier to put the brakes on those who choose to do things legally.

On a positive note we do have the knowledge that once we have been granted the privilege of immigrating to the US we do not have to be looking over our shoulder to be arrested for being here illegally.

Best wishes to all

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVermont Dragging?
I was looking at Igor's List...that is his statistics for the last 12 months. The I 130's still awaiting approval from Vermont go back to the beginning of 2008. The most recent approvals seem to have stemmed from the transfers we have seen to California. To me it's strange that there should be such a disparity unless of course there was an executive decision to do perhaps other work at Vermont which has led to this backlog.

I wonder if there is anybody who could throw some light on this?

Perhaps it has to do with the difference in climate? as it must be pretty cold in Vermont just now and I know I am sure slower when the temperature drops. Whatever the reason we are all in the same/similar boats. Waiting to get through this process and have some direction in our lives. Being in Limbo takes a lot of patience and resilience. Yes I am 55 today so a "touch" on my birthday would be nice Ha! good.gif To get through this drawn out process and be more settled in our lives together will be wonderful. Like everything in life it will come when it's ready, at the moment it's like waiting for a pot to boil.

People in the UK cannot believe what we go through. Obviously I have not experienced UK immigration but I am sure the process is a lot more relaxed that this. The new US administration has it's hands full just now paying off the bankers (a bit like the UK) so when that mess settles down a bit then perhaps President Obama will take a look at what is needed in the immigration area. I personally believe he is the best hope for the US indeed if not for the world.

Just streamline this process and get your future citizens re-united would be great start.

I just wish I knew why we didnt get the approval when we were meant to.. It's kind of disheartening sitting here watching people with filing dates after ours getting their approvals from Vermont. We're July 17th for I130 & Aug 8th for K3, and have only had 1 touch total across both applications

Yes it is very disheartening, as I said previously sticking to first in first out is not only fair but gives people some idea of where they are in the process. Now if for some reason there is a problem, if one is notified...ie RFE or some other AP then again it puts ones mind at rest, knowing there is some progress being made. The way the system is now it appears to be very hit and miss. Unless of course I'm missing something, which given my age is possible Ha! blink.gif

One must remember you get what you pay for devil.gif joking joking

Best wishes

My wife spoke to someone from USCIS yesterday regarding our I130 application being out of processing time.. apparently we were slated to have had a decision made in january.. didnt happen.. wondering why.. but thats not to relivent to this discussion..

Anyway, she was told that they are transfering applications from Vermont to California at the moment so GL to all to get a transfer!!

QUESTION!! I thought VSC transfered all 2008 pettions to CSC and are only dealing with 2009 received petition??? Was I dreaming, or have I've been taking too much Nyquil at night for this flu? sleepy.gif
Thanks for any answers.

I am afraid not. They appear to have sent a batch of 2008 petitions to CSC not them all. Yes my dear I am afraid you need to lessen your medication Ha! Joking aside I wish they had transferred them all, but the next week should show up whether any transfer of cases gets up some steam again.

Best wishes

Well this is good news as it will no doubt alleviate some of the pressure off Vermont. I was thinking as there had earlier been transfers to California and that Vermont seems to have been unable to catch up more transfers were indeed a possibility. Lets hope so kicking.gif

It would be cool if my prediction was correct Ha! good.gif

Best wishes to all and lets get those transfers moving yes.gif
