I've read of some VJers who also came in on CR1/IR1 visa but they did not get their SS card even though they asked for it beforehand. If you don't get your SS card within 4 weeks, suggest that you go to the SSA office and check if they are processing your card. If not, then you might need to request for it yourself.

What's the "residence since" date on your green card?
When did you file the N400 (citizenship)?

You say that you've only been here for 2 years, if that is so, then you would not be eligible to file the N400 yet as you are required to have resided in the US for 3 years, be married to the same USC for at least 3 years and be an LPR for 3 years.

Actually, the husband can still file the I-751 with a waiver for the joint filing if he is able to get a divorce. Once divorced, all he needs to submit is the I-751, the divorce decree and evidence to prove that the marriage was entered into in good faith. These evidence could include bank statements of joint accounts, bills showing both their names, or different bills showing individual names but same address, lease/rental agreement with both names, etc. If the husband does not have any of these evidence, then he will have a problem with his I-751 filing even if he gets the divorce decree.

IF they can prove strong ties to the Philippines, then they will most probably be able to get a tourist visa. Proving strong ties though can be difficult especially for someone who is single. I have a cousin who is single, has a very good job plus a small business on the side, substantial savings but, because she is single her application for a tourist visa was denied. Sometimes one can never tell what the consul will think as sufficiently strong ties. There is always a chance that they will be approved. Just hard to tell how much their chances are for approval.

I'm not sure how much of a concern this will be for infants but when my son and I came over on that long trip, he developed an ear ache due to the changes in pressure. Perhaps you can also look into what can be done to prevent this happening to an infant seeing as they can't really tell you if their ears hurt.

Check here to find the SS office near you. Your fiance will most likely know where it is. You can also download the form beforehand. You will probably not be able to get a driver's license until you have either your EAD or your GC. NC-DMV requires proof of immigration status but they will not accept the NOA. Perhaps you can try with your I-94 and see if they will issue a DL even if it expires in a few months.

The green card will come anywhere from 1-3 months. If you requested for an SSN to be assigned to you when you applied, then you should wait 2-4 weeks. If the SS card does not show up, then go to the SSA and check if they have your SSN in their system. Take your passport with the I-551 stamp. Have a filled out SSN application form ready in case they don't show your SSN in their system. With the I-551 stamp as proof of your LPR status, they should give you an unrestricted SS card.

Edited to add:

You don't need to wait for your green card to apply for work. Your I-551 stamp is sufficient evidence that you are legal permanent resident and legally allowed to work, travel in/out of the country.

I don't know if we got lucky or what but on our last trip to the Philippines, we used Cathay Pacific/American Airlines. AA allowed us the international baggage allowance for the domestic flights from NC to LAX and from LAX to NC . They were confused about it for a bit and were considering charging us extra baggage/overweight fee but a supervisor came along, looked at our tickets, noted that we were on connecting international flights and gave us the international baggage allowance. smile.gif

But I agree with what most people here have said, it would be better if you called the airline you will be using just to make sure as the excess charges can be very hefty.

As our process moves from NVC to Manila and then USEM contacts my fiancee about her responsibilities (forms blablabla)...i keep hearing "they" will email her the "letter" so she can schedule appointment. WHERE will "they" get my pinay's email address? Nowhere on the original documents that i sent to Vermont did it ask for beneficiaries email address. Should I call Embassy when paperwork leaves NVC and upon arrival call them and tell them what that email address is?

Also who amongst us has experience with change of address. My fiancee was living in Sagay N.O. when paperwork went to Vermont, now she lives and is waiting in new address in Manila. When change address?...at what point?

My petition has moved to the NVC in New Hamshire. It has been there for 2 weeks. Most arrive and leave within a few days. This is a K1 application approved by USCIS. Anyone else experience delays or wait this long for release.

Not worried but maybe someone else experiencing delays

Yes thank you for response. Yes it still at NVC. and that the number i call, 1,5 everyday. Lat night they said they would send to supervisor to see why been so long. I hope all is ok, but yes it still is at NVC according to them. Pray it get moved out this week.
