CanadaHotel de la Montagne
I was nervous since I had never used hot wire before, but from the site for the hotel it looks pretty nice. I got it for just under $100 US with taxes and all... on the website it did not show any rooms less than $150 plus taxes... so I think we got a pretty good deal.
Now to just finish up the Affidavit of Support...

Jeeze I don't know how to get the correct link... I update my status for my friends to join and I just copied that... hmmm

Krikit if you ever come back there is lots of room in my "family" !!

Udella I wouldnt consider it a turn based game... you build up "energy" every 5 mins or so depending on your character (hubby is every 3 mins) and then you use that energy to complete jobs... its a pretty lame game but so addictive!

PlatyPius I'm Rena Spence on FB so if you want to add me then I can add you to the family.... I am just level 52 moving up slowly...

Miss Stacey I got your PM and wrote you back

CanadaOn average, how long after interview did Visa come?
QUOTE (SapphireDreams @ Apr 3 2009, 08:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I would confirm that they take a Priority Courier envelope (next day delivery) instead of an Xpresspost envelope.

To be honest - Xpresspost envelopes are pretty much the next day. When I was tracking my envelope, they put it in the mail on Friday and it was delivered on Monday. The waiting part is how long it takes them to actually put it in the mail.

Thanks.
I was worried that Montreal is like Toronot Embassy... when I was there getting my petition approved, the lady told me they only send mail out once a week! So my approved petition didnt get mailed to Montreal for a week because I missed the deadline by a day... glad it doesnt seem Montreal does their mail once a week...

I havent checked to see what sizes they offer in the next day AM delivery, that requires signature but you would think that they would come in a variety of sizes... I just went to the canada post website to see what different delivery options they had for their mailers... they also listed 2 day mailers... I'm just going to look for the fastest delivery in the correct size that also is for use in Montreal to Ontario.

^ Ugh, I had PLANNED to do that, but my interview is on a Friday. I am SURE they would be closed Saturday and I doubt they would wanna come in to give me my passport wink.gif

It's no big deal, fiance is driving up, I just wanna plan for next weekend rather than the weekend AFTER that biggrin.gif

Ya mine is on a Friday too, hoping to get it by Tuesday or Wednesday. I plan on buying one of the next day mailer envelopes... I think it says next AM delivery... costs a little more but we are on a time crunch.

Back in February we drove to Buffalo from Ontario and in the Buffalo airport they had some border patrol people walking about the airport asking people theri citizenship and when they asked us hubby had to show his passport... i guess we could of just lied and said both Americans.. but you know NeVER lie to them!! So he just showed his passport to them and we were on our way... this was just an informal themwalking around asking people that were in line to go through security. We were flying from Buffalo to Salt Lake City BTW...

Shiri do they have the passport? are you just waiting for them to review the documents and send all your stuff back including the passport??
Good luck I hope you get it all soon.

Did you know you can go on the Canada Post website and enter the tracking number with your email address and it will email you when it gets mailed with updates...
I did that when I sent my I-130 to Toronto...

Hopefully someone will still read this... quick question on the fee...
I know when I submitted the I 130 I paid $355... and then when we had our interview Friday we had to pay another fee of $355... did I pay the same fee again?? I just thought it was odd that it was the same amount that I had already paid... but was too caught up in the moment and didn't want to rock the boat and bring that up...
Thanks guys.

hmm shouldn't it have been 470? 70 for affidavit of support and 400 for the IV bill? maybe you got off for a discount? but then again, since I didn't DCF, im not sure if you have to pay the NVC fees

I'm not sure, I just thought it was odd to pay the same exact amount???
I don't know anything about NVC... when I submitted our I130 in Toronto thats where they took the first $355 fee... strange. Maybe someone else knows...

Approved!!
The mailer worked!!
(short review...on neighbors computer)
We got there 15 mins or so after 7 and there were 2 groups ahead of us. One couple and a lady, they were both doing the fiance type... they were approved as well.
As far as I know there were only 2 women doing the interviews while I was there...
The couple that got A went in first and were approved no problem... the lady that was alone (letter cool.gif went to the other lady, she was approved also but had to go buy a new mailer... (I never saw her mailer)
We got the same lady couple A had and were approved no problems. Whe was really nice. Originally from California (like me) and wants to visit Newfounland so we had a long chat about that since hubby is from there...
She asked when did we meet... where did we meet... what hubby plans to do when we get to Utah...
We almost had one hiccup... we needed to show proof that hubby is no longer in the Canadian forces... luckily we brought his whole file with us and happend to find a piece of paper that said last day of work on it.

Oh and the DS 230 (I think thats the form) part 2 (of that one form we had to fill out part 1 only) ... we didnt have that when we got there and had to give our papers to the first lady that gathers the file before the interview. So that lady printed one up and we filled it out and then hubby signed it in the interview room.

It is all a blur right now.
We only got back the marriage cert and birth cert... they kept everything else including my tax transcripts... they never even asked me anything on finances... when I gave them the stack of papers for AOS: I186 EZ, pay stubs, tax transcripts, copy of military orders, letter of employment and I had a copy of my 2008 taxes at the bottom of the pile or somewhere in that mess.

I just hope we get the passport back soon.
Thanks for all your help and support through all this.
When I told the hubby about the next step (adjustment of status) or what ever it is called he wasnt excited...haha.
He thought we were done...
I know I have left out alot, so if anyone has an interview soon and has a question just ask, it may take a day or two for me to respond... but I will be popping in now and then.

Approved!!

CanadaOpening a bank acct???
QUOTE (wowswift @ Jun 6 2009, 11:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
they're GC holders though, and shouldn't have had a problem. I think they messed up and i would go back. we have chase too, and husband had no problems. they didn't want to see his green card, just the visa in his passport and some random credit card with his name on it. they did it no problem. maybe make sure to tell them you have a PR in the states. i was with my hubby when we added him though

Exactly thats why I think the girl messed up the paperwork...
Esp since the letter they sent wanted to know why he has a US address...
I did call and add him to my USAA acct and that was easy, they said they will just send us some signature cards and to send them back...
Like I said I think since this is a brand new branch they are still learning...
I want to just go to another Chase branch... lol

CanadaOpening a bank acct???
Thanks TM
I guess we will just fill it out and send it in if we dont end up at another bank first.
I just didnt want them to assign him a TIN on top of him already having a SSN.
Oh and he got another SSN card in the mail today, however this one also has his 2 middle names on it when the other one just has his first and last name... strange. I think though they are the same number, I never did DOUBLE check... might need to go do that, haha.

CanadaOpening a bank acct???
I just dont get why they need this form, he has a social... makes no sense to me.
When I read about the form it seems its for contractors or people with a business???
I told him we should just go to another bank.
He only chose that bank because it is close to our house.
Not to mention it is a brand new branch and the people seem clueless... ARGH!!

ReeenaNot TellingCanada2009-06-05 22:58:00
CanadaOpening a bank acct???
So the hubby has a SSN... and went to the bank to open an acct. He went to Chase. They opened the acct, but the other day he got a letter saying he needs to fill out a W9.... and then they were questioning why he has a US address as a non-resident... argh!!
Have any of you had to fill this form out? After reading the instructions it does not seem like this form applies to him.
I think they have messed up his paperwork because they also had him listed as a nonresident and then they also wanted to know why he has a US address... I wish I would have gone with him the first time... but you know how it is when you want a bank acct and dont want to wait for anyone to go with you to open the acct.
Just wondering if any of you have had to fill out this form??
Thanks

CanadaGirly thread (men beware!)
--Somewhat off topic--
So one of my girlfriends called me last night and she wants me to go to Ottawa with her next weekend (day before Easter) 3 1/2 hour drive so she can get her waxxing done. I tried to talk her into going to the girl I go to here...but she also wants to give me a tour of Ottawa, esp since we are moving next month and I have lived here for 4 years and have never been... so I'm pretty sure I will go with her. Just gota make sure hubby is okay with watching the boys, as this will be a kid free trip, Yay!

Any places I MUST see in Ottawa before leaving Canada (aww that makes me sad, just the thought of it) sad.gif

CanadaGirly thread (men beware!)
I guess I will be the first to post I take it all off. I have been having it done since I got here to North Bay. (4 yearsish) use to get it done 4 years before that when I was living in Arizona but then moved to Japan for 4 years and couldnt find anywhere to get it done)
The girl I go to is very quick. I did stop when I was about 6 months or so prego and then went back when the baby was a month old or so and it was pretty painful esp since it had been a while. I also get the eyebrows done... have done the threading when I was out of town and really like it.

CanadaPR Card??
So I just went through a couple timelines and was wondering when should my husband get his "green card"??
Seems like recent members have gotten them in a matter of a few weeks.
We got the Visa (his CDN passport) on 30 April and activated it and crossed the border that same day.

He has already received his SSN... and he also received 2 welcome letters.
Should we be calling someone about the "green card"? and if so, who do we call?
Thanks so much. I'd be so lost without VJ!!!
