CanadaWar Deserters told to leave Canada..
Being in the US military and stationed here in Canada I don't understand how the deserters are able to "hide out" here... The military is not all fun and games, they should of thought about that before they signed up.

We just received our interview date for our K-3 visa March 30th, 2009 in Montreal. What is the quickest and the longest that we'll have to typically wait after March 30th to receive our visa from Montreal?

Thanks!

Congrats on your interview date!! We are hoping for early April...

Well the hubby is at work until around 11pm tonight...and then we will be on the road. It will take us just over 3 hours to get there, and I really don't see any point in sitting around the house for a few hours just to get on the road... I'd rather be tired after we get there than be tired driving. I am so not looking forward to the drive home though...
I think we are going to get some Timbits for the road, have been on weight watchers for a while now but think we deserve a nice treat!!

Glad they called and told me, I would of been mad if we showed up and didn't have enough money.
Hope we have everything...
-Money --plus 20 extra for them to send us the packet back
-Letter with case number
-Bunch of US passport size photos
-immunization record
-Passport for proof of identity

Am I missing anything?

Thanks guys.... its finally coming together!!
Oh and we just got back from the states where we bought a house for when we move in hopefully April some time...

They have closed down the underground complex... we now work in a multi-million dollar piece of ####### building.... they even had to delay our move to the new building because it was full of black mold before we even moved in and its brand new. The office I work in gets full of ice on the windows and its always cold, its crazy, lol.

No school for me here... stationed here up at the base. It will be 4 years this April, so we are finally leaving. I guess it was a good thing, or else I would of never met the hubby and have another baby. He is in the Canadian forces and me the US. He will be separating from the forces on the 2nd of April for us to leave to Utah...

Whoaaaaaa!!

You have a physical fitness test at work and work makes you go to the gym??

Where do you work! blink.gif

LOL
I'm in the military. My hubby is also in the military, the CF but he will be separating in April.

I am happy to say that since joining WW I can now fit into the uniform they issued me 10 years ago after 2 kids. I have not even been able to think about squeezing into it for atleast 8 years... I am such the pack-rat but now am glad I have held onto it over the years.
ReeenaNot TellingCanada2009-01-06 10:29:00
CanadaNew Year, New Diet...
I joined weight watchers in Oct and in 10 weeks I lost 18 lbs... 8 lbs in the first 2 weeks and then it has slowed down, I am on "maintenance" now, so just keeping it where it is and have been on that for almost 4 weeks now. It has worked for me and the hubby (he is just following the book with me) and when we dont feel like cooking we eat lean quisine or something similar with low point values...

Also I must add that prior to this I had failed my physical fitness test at work (running, situps, push-ups and weight/waist measurement) so they made me go the gym M-F for an hour every day and I only lost 4 lbs over the course of 42 days that I had to be on that program. I don't really go to the gym nowadays unless work makes me, but even then I would never call it a work-out, LOL.

WW has worked for me and was sooo simple... I was the big skeptic...I still want to loose more, but just have not been "writing" my stuff down and tracking my points... so I have stayed the same for a while now...

Good luck in what ever you choose.

CanadaWhat to do??
Nope I can't stay here longer, and I only have 3 weeks vacation and we only earn 2.5 days a month, so it will take a whle to earn more time if I use it all.
I am thinking we are just going to risk driving, and just buy him a plane ticket back to show he is coming back that he is just helping us get settled. Atleast we are only 5 hours from the border so if they do say no to him we can just turn around and go back. We wont have all our stuff. The movers will send our stuff, we'll just have our luggage to get us by until our household goods arrive.
Keeping my fingers crossed we will get an interview in April and not even have to worry about this.
Thanks guys.
Also wouldnt this be no different than when somone goes to visit their spouse when they are wating for their interview date?

ReeenaNot TellingCanada2009-03-02 21:00:00
CanadaWhat to do??
So I just found out I have to leave here (Canada) by the last day of April. Atleast I need to sign out of the base, I can take annual leave, but I don't really want to "waste" vacation time waiting around here for an interview. So we are thinking of just leaving here and going down to Utah to get settled into the house we just bought and then either just my hubby or both of us flying back to Montreal for the interview.
I am just not sure what we can use as proof of him coming back... we know he has to come back for the interview and don't want to do anything illegal.... it's just that we planned on driving to Utah and I don't want to make that trip on my own with 2 kids.
What do you guys think?
The hubbys last day of work is the 2nd of April so he wont have an "employer" to write a letter saying he needs to come back, but he will of course come back. I am still hopeful on getting an April interview, or May at the latest.
I hope someone has some encouraging advice.
Thanks
Rena

On the one hand its a good thing for us because we're getting a big discount on our wedding in Canada that we're planning... (well he is, not me) but on the other hand it sucks that my savings are really 25% less. I think I'll just keep my money in my CDN account until it goes back up (if it ever does).

Same here, we are thinking of leaving some of our money here in our Canadian acct because of how much we will loose off the exchange when we leave... I just hate paying the fees for them to hold our money for us while we just sit and wait... and not even earn much interest

I had similar problem with Rogers for my cell... I ended up changing my plan to "emergency only" and its something like $8 plus tax a month so I will do that for the last few months on my contract instead of my reg $50 some dollar plan... maybe you can lower it to the lowest it can go as long as they dont make you do a whole new "contract"

Good luck, let us know what you decide to do.

CanadaHow did everyone meet their american/canadian significant others?
Our story is pretty boring... we met at work. I really didn't know him at work, I was actually his boss for a couple weeks but he was new along with a bunch of other people and I just never met him. We had a new girl move to town for work and I ended up taking her out down town and we ran into him at a bar with another guy from work. Well the new girl and my friend started talking so me and the hubby just hung out while they chatted and ended up talking all night and I haven't been able to get rid of him since, LOL.

The only bad thing is they are done online at HR Block, they wont let you print them until you pay to file...but we are waiting on the SSN.. hmmmm

maybe i can pay and print it, but not file it yet, and then go back and efile it, not sure if it will let me ammend it after I pay, there is a fake social in for the hubby, just to complete it, then I planned on changing it before I efile... oh one more thing to worry about, lol

Canada2008 Taxes Interview on the 24th of April
After reading the post about the denied interview over taxes I am a little worried.
I have not "filed" my taxes, they are done but we are waiting until we get to Utah and for hubby to get his SSN to file them.

As a military member stationed overseas we are automatically allowed an extension for 2 or 3 months and I also did mail-in the extension paperwork (gives us 6 month extension...), but dont have a copy of it. (I just filled out the form and mailed it out like I did last year) didn't keep a copy, but I guess I can print one again.
I also wanted to wait until the hubby got the SSN because him not having one denies us alot of "credits" on my return...

I am wondering what I should do. I have all my pay stubs and am above the poverty guideline stuff...
What are your thoughts?

I am filling out the affidavit of support (I-864) for our interview on the 24th of April. As of the 30th of April our house is no longer ours here in Canada, it has been sold. We have hotel reservations from the 20th of April until the 29th of April here in Ontario) We bought a house a few months ago in Utah and will be moving there as soon as he gets his Passport back (I have to sign out of my military unit here by the 30th of April)

I know that there is a change of address form I-865 but the instructions say not to send in both at the same time---
what should I list as our address??

I don't even know the "sister-in-law" story! I think I missed it in another thread. laughing.gif It seems this is about your sister-in-law not taking time away to spend with her sister, your wife? If not, forgive me.

Anyway, it just got me thinking that I too find it annoying, and I would really caution people who have kids about this. This is strictly just my opinion though!

I had two children, and it doesn't take away from who I am, or was. I had g/f's who once they had children spent EVERY AVAILABLE moment with their husbands and/or children. As a Mom...heck as a PERSON, I needed time away from my kids!! I needed ADULT time away. This in my opinion made me a better mother. There is a time and place for kids, and frankly, it's not always with adults. Hmm, I'm thinking I may have vented about this in another thread some time ago.

There is a time and place for ME as well. If I don't take care of ME, no one will. This includes time away with my friends and family without my children.

Again, if this is not what this sister-in-law story was about, or doesn't pertain to it, ignore me! laughing.gif

That's exactly what the "sister-in-law story" is about and I think you hit the nail on the head. good.gif

Nu-uh! That is not EXACTLY what you said, DPX. You went beyond the fact of just saying, "I wish my sister in law would spend a little one and one time with my wife..."

It was more like, "her kids are whiny, they scream, they are unruly, why doesn't she discipline them, etc."

I have 2 boy 1 1/2 and 7 years old. I love my boys and they may get on my nerves... but they are MY boys.

However if I am in the company of someones elses kids and they are whiny, scream, unruly and what not I have no desire to be there. I use to feel bad when shortly after I had my youngest friends had babies and I had no desire to hold them on talk baby talk to them... I have my own baby to hold and cuddle. Its weird because before the youngest was born the friends with babyies would stop into work and I'd be holding the baby >> not any more!!
