CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview
I tried calling that number, but either I wrote our case number down wrong or I am somehow not in the system. I have never called any of these numbers before, so not sure.
Shouldn't we be in the system?? Is the the number for Montreal? Or do I call somewhere else since I am DCF?? Hope someone knows, if not its okay.
Thanks
Rena

Yay!! Congrats you two, that's great. I can't wait to feel up my visa laughing.gif

I just got my Xpresspost envelope and man, the people at the post office are pretty clue less sometimes eh? I spent 10 minutes convincing her there is a sticker she can put on the envelope requiring a signature. Then she wanted to fill in the mailing address and I was like no! Just give it to me! I would love to know why it needs to be so massive....
x

Okay so i have my mailer for our interview tomorrow and the size says 390mm x 295mm and I am not sure if that is the right size since my letter says to get 314 x 394 .. but the one i have seemed to be the biggest size they have... do i have the wrong one???

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 / check cashed
Thanks
I sent the number to my husband to check on it. I just called him and made sure he has been checking the mail and that there is nothing un-opened that he hasnt gotten to. Ugh so frustrating.
Hopefully he will call in the next hour and find out whats going on, since he has all the numbers at home. Was thinking of calling my bank and see if there is some kind of receipt number on the back of my cashed check, the online image is not available right now.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 / check cashed
Not sure if we did this right.
I am out of town, so my husband mailed his I-751 form some time around the first week of Feb since his conditional GC expired the last day of April. They cashed our check right away, but we havent heard anything yet. I am out of the country and getting a little worried, esp reading about bio-metrics appointments, what is that? I am pretty sure he sent in all the "evidence" of us living together, we have a child together also. I am just confused and worried now. Let me know if I am missing something.

Okay, we mailed our form along with the $600 or so dollars around the 1st week of Feb and havent heard anything since.... :( They did cash my check about a week later... getting a little worried now. What is bio-metrics I keep hearing about? My hubbys card expired the last day in April so now I'm worried that if he needs to travel back home for anthing in the event of an emergency we dont have any paperwork.
Any suggestions would be great.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWill US Army recognize marriage in Canada?
http://www.dfas.mil/...allowances.html

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) - BAH is paid to uniformed service members to provide housing compensation based on pay grade, zip code, and dependency status. It is payable when government quarters are not provided or when temporarily residing in barracks (i.e. basic training, job school, unaccompanied overseas assignment).

To determine how much BAH you are eligible to receive, use this BAH Calculator .

To view the 2007 Rates for BAH II, Partial BAH, and BAH-Diff click here .
To view the 2006 Rates for BAH II, Partial BAH, and BAH-Diff click here .

Basic Allowance for Subsistence - BAS is designed to continue the military tradition of providing room and board for service members as part of their pay. This allotment is for the service member only and is not intended to cover spouses and/or family members’ room and board costs. As of January 1, 2002, all enlisted military members in a good status draw a full BAS monthly rate

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWill US Army recognize marriage in Canada?
Well BAS is money the give him for HIM to eat, so he should already be getting that or they make him eat at the chow hall, and unless he has a family living there, I believe they will provide him quarters and not give him BAH since you will still be in Canada, but I'm not sure.
He has to double check with his finance office.

I know that unless you are located with him in the area the pay can be different.
There may be some kind of separation pay, but not sure.
I only have access to USAF info...
Good luck.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFiling for k-3 if out of the US?
QUOTE (wowswift @ Oct 18 2007, 10:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have asked several people, one person said talk to a lawyer, one said they were able to do it the way I want too, and most others don't know or have the wrong information, but here goes the question anyways.

I am a US citizen and I am living with my boyfriend in Canada currently. Obviously, we will get married before I start filing everything, but I was wondering if I can do this while staying here? As I said, most people said no, but I read on the instructions for the I-130 form, that I can send it from Canada. Basically want to do it this way so we don't have to be seperated when we start the process and since he basically finacially supports me at this point (I am not legal in Canada) this would be the best option since again, we don't want to be apart, and just seems easier this way.

The whole situation was quite confussing, but I think I am pretty sure that I can do this from Canada, and wonder if anyone else has done it, and if I am actually able to do it from here. The person I know who did almost the same thing before, did it years ago, and I'm not sure how much things have changed.

This is what it says (from the USCIS.gov site for I-130):

Petitioners residing abroad: If you live in Canada, file your petition at the Vermont Service Center. Exception: If youare a U.S. citizen residing in Canada, and you are petitioning for your spouse, child, or parent, you may file the petition atthe nearest American Embassy or Consulate, except for those in Quebec City. If you reside elsewhere outside the United States. file your relative petition at the USCIS office overseas or the U.S. Embassy or Consulate having jurisdiction over the area where you live. For further information, contact the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.

Also, on the I-129F it has an option for if not currently in the US...

just wondering, any help or advise would be great.

Thanks

Hi Just reading old posts and noticed you were in Newfoundland...do you guys actually live there now? My fiance is from there and we are actually going there in March to get married.
Are there many Newfies on this site?? I don't recall seeing many.

Hey Flames9
I know exactly what you are talking about! lol
Not sure if you ever got to see the "hole" in North Bay... but we no longer working down there, we moved to a new state of the art building a year ago or so. Yep we still fight with the "link" most of the time its up...but really depends on who is working, lol.
I guess things havent changed too much since you were in the Forces.
We will be waiting until after we get married to start the first step in this... till then I am enjoying (to some extent) reading everyones stories. I am amazed at how long this whole thing takes.

Hi Reeena smile.gif
I just wanted to say welcome!!!

I was much like you when we began. I figured I could just move to the states and live there... blink.gif Not so easy!
It's a long and drawn out process. Hopefully you guys will be able to be together for most of the process instead of apart.

We filed for a K1 visa because we aren't married yet. Only about 6 or so months to go (hopefully!) until I can be with Nick!

I wish you all the luck and Congratulations on the baby!!!!
~Laura smile.gif

Thanks Laura, we actually live together here in North Bay. I'm stationed here in North Bay until April 2009, so hopfully we can get this all done by then so we wont have to be apart at all.
Best of luck with your visa!

Our wedding date is in March... so I figured it would be easier to apply for everthing after we were married... esp after reading all these long timelines... I'm not sure what the K3 or CR 1 option is.
I just know that we will never get things together to get it done before we marry. I can barely handle planning the wedding right now, haha.
Thanks for the info on having to go to Montreal also.

Welcome to VJ!

First off, I thought there was special instructions for military members, but that may be for Naturalization purposes. You might want to check the USCIS website for that.

A couple thoughts on your post though. The U.S. Consulate in Toronto does not process any immigration paperwork; you will have to go through Montreal as you are in Ontario.

Since you are a USC, why not report the baby's birth with the Toronto Consulate and get a U.S. passport?

As far as the babys passport, we thought it would be easier to just do the Canadian passport since we have not completed the paper work for the "report of birth abroad" but if they do not figure out whats going on with the passport in the next few weeks I will tell them to send me back the BC and we will apply for a US passport... initally we were going to get married in California and wanted to make sure we had the passport in time, but now we are getting married in Newfoundland, so we dont need the passport right away.

CanadaThis really looks like it will be a "journey"
So I am an American military member marrying a Canadian service member in March. We just had a baby in October.
I didnt even know I had to do all of this until I looked up info on getting my fiance a social security card.

I have been reading through this site but am still lost on where to begin. Do we fill out the I-130 first and go from there?
Forgot to mention we live in Ontario. I figured we could take the papers to the consulate in Toronto.
I can not believe how difficult this whole process seems to be.

Not to mention I have been fighting with passport Canada to get the baby a passport (first guarantor) did not pass the background check so had to resubmit and now they seem to not know whats going on with our application... sad.gif

I just thought we would get married and live happily ever after...haha
When looking at this form I-130 they ask all kinds of questions we cant really answer right now, like where will we live in the states... Well we might not even live in the states, it all depends on where the US military sends us...

CanadaUS Citizen to bring car from USA TO Canada
QUOTE (Ali Khan @ Jan 29 2008, 12:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello we are going thru admin processing for our us visa which is taking some time, so my wife has decided to move to Canada until the process is over. She wants to bring her car to canada with all the research I have done and the contacts I have made by custom brokers they are clueless as to how this can be done.

Does anyone have any experience in this and which companies we can contact to have this done....she wont be driving so the car needs to be transported on a carrier. Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks,

I shipped a vehicle from California to Buffalo (I live 3 hours from Toronto) and saved money since the transport company didnt have to ship the vehicle over the border...just an idea if its significantly more for them to take it over the border (and less paperwork), and then you can just drive it though the border...
