Philippineskeeping love alive in trying times

I am finding that it can be very difficult for me to get through tough times in a long distance relationship. I love my doe dearly but when we argue I get fearful that it will be the last straw. What are some ways you have managed through hard times with your long distance love?

This may  sound crazy, but I already had  Pinay friends here in the  U.S. One in particular helped both of  us during  the long distance relationship, when it hit bumps. most  of the time  it was due to  cultural differences . Having a friend here in the US that had been married 8 years helped  a lot.

Hello! Which one have you used or you know is good and reliable? Also, I preferably would like a company that takes a picture of the reaction of the receiver.... thoughts???

Are you friends  with any family members?

When my wife was still in the PI, I would XOOM money to one of the older (22 year old) nephews who I was friends with. Include enough to treat him and his buddies at Sbarro at SM.

He would  buy presents etc for me.

Of course I got really really good family in the  Pi. They don't need my money, and I  can  trust them with mine.

PhilippinesMet only once , is this a red flag?

Gonna dodge my Q's huh?

I'm not doubting you are serious. I'm taking issue with - inferring meeting only once will unequivocally be "Zero Issue". That = Doo-Doo. wink.png Reckless begging for a RFE doo - doo. yes.gif

Perhaps we need to skin the cat a different way = A 1 time meeting & no other ongoing relationship evidence will increase probability of additional scrutiny & possible fraud unit review & worse case = denial. Multiple trips to PI for the purpose of visiting fiancée decreases potential for increased scrutiny.

Does that phrasing suit you better? Stated differently but = the same.

Your idea = you build the poll. idea9dv.gif
_______________________________________

ETA: Ah..you edited & answered. I need a moment to review.

Answering #2 - My op = Meeting just 1 time could draw extra scrutiny re; bona fide relationship. The solve = Build a good evidence of ongoing relationship packet & have it ready for interview.

Notice the word - COULD..?  Any1 Any1..? (Ferris Buehler)

I will say it. Having met one time will have a zero percent chance of being the cause for someone to get turned down. And trying to convince these rookies it could is a disservice

As I have said many times as long as you are legal to get married, have clean records, you meet income requirements , in other words as long as you comply with all requirements you will not get turned down. Dragging to the interview itch 200 pictures and three notebooks of chat transcripts is absurd. My 2 cents

PhilippinesMet only once , is this a red flag?

My fiance and I met only once and then decided to apply for K1 visa after..please check my timeline below, my concern is how much percentage do applicants for K1 have when they have only met their fiances once yet within the 2 year requirement? Any couples out there that were approved with this kind of situation?

PhilippinesBALIKBAYAN BOX concerns

We use LBC or UMAC. Both are about the same price ~$89 for a big box. My wife can get 150 lbs of stuff into a Balikbayan box.

Takes 4 - 6 weeks to arrive.

We have never lost anything in shipment.

We normally ship - make up, electronics, (Blu Ray players etc), small kitchen appliances, canned goods, clothes, shoes etc. . Basically we send whatever our daughter requests - about six boxes a year.

Ditto. LBC

PhilippinesPaying for a hotel in Manila here in the US for my fiancee...

I would second sending her the money, she can pick it up wherever she lives.  It will be cheaper for her to book a room than you, you get foreigner screwed on prices.  I think I sent my fiance 250 for each trip to Manila which was enough to buy new luggage and other stuff too.

\

Same here . I always just sent my wife money and she got her room, tickets etc. She always got a better deal than I could, and I did not have to go thru all the hassles.

Even for the ticket here, she found one there and I sent the money..Soooo Easy

PhilippinesPaying for a hotel in Manila here in the US for my fiancee...

Hi everyone..

I have been looking for hotels around St Luke's Clinic and around the Embassy for my fiancee so she can stay there before her day of appearance. I have been finding hotels that require the card used to be present of arrival to help prevent fraud.  So my question is what good, clean, cheap..and I am talking around $40 a night for 2 people, with me not being the other person, hotel can I pay for here and have them not ask for the card once they arrive?

I want to take care of all expenses here in the US and have them not worried about paying for the hotels. And of course they have to be close to the Clinic and Embassy..

Thanks for any help on this

Just out of  curiosity,  I hear questions like this a lot.

why don't you just send her the money . Seems like 1 neat little Xoom, transaction would  be so easy ?

I did learn a hard lesson in Honolulu at a Korean bar. I spent some time with some beautiful girls, bought many bottles of champange, and did get to finger bang at least one of them. After the last girl passed out drunk, I was out $1000, and left the place alone.

PhilippinesThe bar girl...

I thought it would be a rare occurrence but have seen some examples on VJ and a few people my wife has met in the US who were obviously bar girls in their past life.  It makes me wonder if the guys actually know it and look the other way or if they are oblivious.  The dating sites are full of them, which might not be an automatic red light but certainly ups the chances.  There is of course the "they are people too" argument, or the "if you were in there shoes".  I just don't see how any marriage can be anything but a long time John after someone has done something like that.  They should have a course like CFO for US citizens to make sure they know what they are getting into.  One of my buddies here married to a Thai girl thinks you have to meet the girl through family already here in the US, I don't agree with that.  But I've seen more than I thought I would in the short amount of time my wife has been here.

Kind of like those terrorist that expect  72 Virgins.

If you ask me, I would  rather have 72 bad girls .

You either need them to attend or have Municipal form 7 . One or the other not both.  Please remember this is a CFO requirement, and has nothing to do with USEM.

That's a great idea, however I'll need to make friends with Fil-Am couples fast then lol, as I don't know any right now.

Yeah, I know about the rice. One time, I was eating a classic American meal - a home cooked burger, chips, salad, you name it, and was on camera with her. She showed her mom my meal, and the first thing out of her mom's mouth was...

"Where is the rice?" biggrin.png

Is she in Happy Ladies ? All she has to do is say ..Anyone in  the _______________ Area.?

Haha very well then. I'll pass on the bubble bath. But she'll definitely get a massage on her new bed.

I forgot about chocolates, as that will definitely be there waiting for her (she loves chocolates).

She wants me to wait on getting rice and even a rice cooker until she comes (guess it's that important that she doen't even trust me to get one beforehand lol biggrin.png ).

I kind of wanted the phone to be her first real gift here, but I suppose I can always just make it a $500 Verizon gift card and let her pick it out.

Yes can't go wrong with chocolates for sure

The rice  is huge..Our first argument was because I buttered the rice. It's hard to overstate the importance of rice in their life.

I did have a phone waiting on  her, and  handed it  to her at the airport. However she had  already told me to get the Iphone 4s

The one biggest thing that made her  transition easier..I already had Fil-Am couple friends. on her second night I took her to our Sunday night dinner group and she met 6 Pinay women. for those of you with one on the way over, it really helps...

PhilippinesGift basket for my fiancees POE---any ideas??

My fiance loves flowers, so I'll be greeting her at the airport with a beautiful bouquet and plenty of kisses to welcome her to her new country. When she enters her new home, she will be instantly surrounded by Debussy's piano playing on the sound system and a pathway of petals, leading to both the bathtub and the bed, with a bottle of bubble bath and massage oil at each, respectively, to allow her to soak in and relax, something much needed after a long stressful flight and huge time difference. How's that for a romantic and memorable initiation? She won't have to worry about doing anything else until the next day. She will have one more gift to wake up to, however - her own real nice new smartphone, already activated, as the one she has now will be useless here of course. She'll appreciate it, as it will help her feel connected right away with that.

She is gonna do a fly by on the bubble bath, look at the bath tub like WTH and be hunting the rice, your heart is in the right place, but you have not yet entered the Pinay zone..goofy.gif

As for phone..let he pick her own..I have learned with women, especially Filipina women- Phones area fashion accessory and status symbol.what kind has nothing to do with functionality.Us guys think different.

You really want her to get excited--Have her a Michael Kors Purse

yeah I want to do the smartphone,,but I want her to pick it out,,,Pinay are picky about their phones

AMEN and Purses

like lotion, shampoo, any other little things a Pinay would like? Hopefully other Pinay who have arrived will remember what they needed or should have brought with them!

Thanks in advance!good.gif

do not fail to have rice available- Carry some to the airport in a cooler in a zip lock bag if it is a long drive back home.

Other than that

A 100.00 dollar Walmart gift card and take her there as soon as she can manage after her flight

You are going to suck at anticipating what you think she is going to want

It will be like one of those picture panels---

Thanks for all the info guys. Sounds like as long as my baggage makes it through Tokyo just fine without me, I am good to go.

Only if they exit the terminal area.  If they are transiting through and only changing aircraft... no stamp.

If they don't exit the terminal area then they won't be entering the country.

once again in most cases if you are not required to get your passport stamped you will not have to check and re-check your bags

any time anyone enters a foreign country they stamp your passport

The Nature BoyMalePhilippines2013-09-17 04:45:00
PhilippinesChecked in Luggage and Flying Internationally Connected Flights

I've always just used carryon items when flying to and from the Philippines. Easier and secure that way.

However, this time, I will be checking in a huge duffel bag when flying there (that will be mostly empty save for some food for her family), and likely checking in two bags of her stuff flying back here (to save room for her luggage when she comes here at the end of the year).

So my question concerns checked in luggage. My flight is Japan Airlines and will be connecting in Tokyo before landing in Manila going there, and connecting in Tokyo and Los Angeles before landing in San Diego upon the return. Do I need to pick up my checked in luggage at any of these connections, or do I forget about it the moment I check it in in San Diego and expect to see it in Manila?

Thanks, I guess I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to checking in luggage in international flights, so any advice is helpful.

On the trip back you will have to claim your baggage at LAX and pass thru customs. Then you will re-check for your flight to San Diego

It will be the only time coming our going you have to check it twice.

You have to claim your baggage to  enter the country.

You are not entering Japan on the trip over or back,so you don't have to re-check bags

I think a good rule of thumb is, if your passport is getting stamped you got to re-check your bags

PhilippinesA sensitive topic/question.....

I wanted to chime in on this.

1) baby wipes are not flushable even when the cartons indicates they are. If your using a septic tank system, call your local sanitation company and confirm this. They (baby wipes) DO NOT break down like toilet paper. They are causing major damage and expenses to city sewers and sanitation departments.

http://www.buffalone...es-say-20130908

http://www.sfgate.co...ems-3231233.php

2) I have to hand it to the Japanese. If you have ever flown through the airport in Tokyo. Man, do they have nice stand up urinals and toilets.

Their toilets AND stand up wall urinals have built in bidets with variable temp AND pressure on water. Man, talk about nice when your of fire from diarrhea.

3) Used toilet paper in waste baskets is a NO NO NO. It is unsightly, unnecessary, and extremely unsanitary. yes, even in 3rd world countries it is safe to flush it down the toilet.

Toilets in the KAL in Seoul are the same way. More buttons than a 747

PhilippinesA sensitive topic/question.....

I've seen my wife go #2 here in the Philippines and she stands/squats on the seat and uses the shower head, or bidet to constantly have a flow of water. She uses soap afterwards.

I tell her "Please do not stand on the toilet here..it is not safe.", but mostly "Do not stand on the toilet in the US...it will break, or loosen seal, or whatever..just sit". I just feel like it is not safe to stand on the seat...especially here where it is wet in the Cr most of the time. I'm debating a bidet or tabo when we get to the US this month....of course, it's my aunts house we will be living in so it's ultimately her call, I guess.

When I use here...and I've gotten use to not using TP, I poop, and then grab the tabo and use my left hand to wash clean WITH soap. I don't just wipe with my bare hand..I'm constantly flushing my butt with water and using soap. I have to admit it feels a lot better and cleaner.

My only complaint is I'm totally dumbfounded on what to do in public CR's here. They sometimes don't put the TP in the stall, but at the sinks instead, and I couldn't just wet my butt and then button up..Would feel way too uncomfortable to me.  I usually try and just not go in public though. Hold til I get home..which is not uncommon, I do this in US, too....Although my weakness is bookstores...something about them just makes me want to poop.

You watch your wife go number 2 and like to poop in book stores...Bachelor number 2 also enjoys reading, cooking.and football

LOL Sorry could not pass it up Peace

Philippines1040 vs IRS Transcripts

hopefully what is not getting lost in the copy of tax return vs tax transcript, is what's required is to show evidence of annual income claimed on the I-134. this can be accomplished by submitting a copy of the most recent tax return and W-2. some members submit a tax transcript to fullfill this requirement. If the most recent tax has a shortfall of the required income, but now are earning enough to meet the requirement, then it is important to show evidence of the substainable income. this can be accomplished with recent pay check stubs, a letter of explanation and an employment letter.

Exactly You get it. Got it. Understand. Bravo. Clap clap. His 2010 tax transcript did not show enough income to meet the eligibility requirements.. He had not filled for 2011 yet. So he filled for 2011 ( a year in which he did meet guidelines). That gave him enough income and he meet the standard. Simply submiting his 2010 1040 instead of the transcipt would change nothing becuse it has the same figure for AGI. and that figure would put him below the guidelines. (now if his 1040 and his transcript had diffrent numbers and info he has a whole nother problem LOL)

That has been my whole rub all along. Posters who don't understand the process keep telling novice members they did not get their visa that day, for having a transcript instead of a 1040. That is just blatant false mis leading info.
The Nature BoyMalePhilippines2012-01-27 05:26:00
Philippines1040 vs IRS Transcripts

I don't recall anyone saying he was denied, I do recall that he got a request from the CO for a TAX RETURN 1040.

And he got a request to provide the 2011 ITR why /?? Come on work with me here ??

Because his 2010 transcript showed he did not meet the eligibility requirements. if it had he would have a visa right now..
The Nature BoyMalePhilippines2012-01-26 22:37:00
Philippines1040 vs IRS Transcripts

 Exactly? Probably?

Now you're inventing things. Maybe you have the ability to read the consular officer's mind. If tax transcripts were, as you said, "perfectly fine" and "preferable," why would anyone be required to submit tax returns? If someone didn't meet the income eligibility requirements based upon their tax transcripts, how would a tax return change that? The gap in your logic is big enough to drive a Mack truck through.

First of all, the poster did not say that he was asked for proof of his 2011 income. Secondly, you're simply guessing that the poster would have been "fine" if only he had submitted his 2011 transcript. If, indeed, the poster was required to submit a tax return because of insufficient income, then you would be the one who is spreading misinformation since it was you who said transcripts are "acceptable" and "preferable" while they clearly aren't in cases like the poster's case, of which there are many.

As for my "mindless Google cut and pastes and embarrassingly painfully wrong assertions about a subject I could not grasp," you do realize that I simply posted what the USEM website, the USEM interview preparation instructions, and the DOS says about the tax return issue? According to you, they are all wrong about what they require. How do you explain that?

Your just being ridiculous now. The poster did not meet basic income requirements for 2010. That was the problem. Would have made no difference if it was a 1040 or transcript, I really think your smart enough to realize that, but heck I could be wrong.

On the other hand, I'm still waiting for you to provide the link to the USCIS which you claim supports your continued assertions about transcripts for K-1ers. Where's the link?

T
The Nature BoyMalePhilippines2012-01-26 19:16:00
Philippines1040 vs IRS Transcripts

Sharing what is stated by USCIS on the 134 instructions and by the embassy is "accurate", and that states TAX RETURNS 1040s. They have accepted transcripts but that is not what is stated as REQUIRED. Stating to using transcripts would be handing out mis-information. Will transcripts be accepted? Most times. But tax returns 1040 will be accepted everytime as it is the "letter" of the requirement.

~ like a dog with a bone.

Hope the transcripts are accepted for you and you have no issues with the interview.

We all know that throughout the process bogus info is given out by USICS, NVC and the embassy. Some embassy Secretary put tax return on the website as a generic term meaning Tax transcript also. The purpose of VJ is to help members with accurate information that may be misleading. A tax transcript is just as valid as the full 1040, and no one will ever get denied just because it's a tax transcript if nothing else is wrong. The example you all cited was not about the transcript but because the poster did not meet the basic income requirements and had nothing to do with using a tax transcript

The one and only problem I have is that people where being told, that a poster was denied for having a tax transcript, which is false.

I do agree with you that if you have the return send it.

..

If you have your 1040 handy, by all means use them. However the OP stated he did not and all he had was a transcript and asked if it was acceptable. It is.
The Nature BoyMalePhilippines2012-01-26 19:00:00
Philippines1040 vs IRS Transcripts

How things change.. When we went through this a couple of years ago, it was my understanding that transcripts were preferred and that was all I sent. We didn't have any problems at all. I'm getting ready to send the I-751 packet in the next couple of months and was going to call for transcripts again. Guess I need to rethink that huh

Nothing has changed and transcripts will be fine. Did not mean to raise a fuss, but the goal of this board is to share accurate fist hand information, that will make life easier and simpler for all all applicants.
The Nature BoyMalePhilippines2012-01-26 05:11:00
Philippines1040 vs IRS Transcripts

1) You have not provided a USCIS link which says transcripts are acceptable for a USEM K-1 interview. You also have not provided a link which backs up your claim that "transcripts are preferable." I-864's are irrelevant to this discussion.

Also, you are still not acknowledging the instructions on the USEM website (link) and the USEM interview preparation instructions (link).. Why not?

Additionally, here's what the Department of State says about the subject:

9 FAM 40.41 N4.6-3 Use of Form I-134, Affidavit of Support
...
~snip
...
e. To substantiate the information regarding income and resources, the sponsor should attach to the affidavit a copy of the latest Federal income tax return filed prior to the signing of the Form I-134, including all supporting schedules.

Department of State link.

2) By now, it's painfully obvious that you didn't bother to read the link in post #6. That link leads you to the latest poster who was required to submit a tax return. He is by no means the only VJer who has been required by the USEM to submit a tax return.

Being denied a visa by the Embassy is not a matter of semantics. It has a very definite meaning, and it's one you should learn. Playing fast and loose with words can get you into trouble. The consequences of a denial are very different than being issued an MNL-IV-22.

3) There you go again, asserting your opinion and ignoring the facts. I gave you a response to your assertion about the interview scheduling issue and you simply ignored it. Your "proof" is based upon what an NVC tier-one script-reader told you, isn't that correct? By the way, where are those 100's and 1000's of people who agree with you?

When Chinook and I went through the process, I spoke with an employee in the USEM IV Unit who told me that a K-1 packet had to physically be in the USEM and had to be entered into their system before scheduling an interview was possible.

4) I'm satisfied with letting people decide for themselves who is posting nonsense and who is not. I've backed up my case with relevant links. You haven't.

@None Ya...Based upon my three years of experience here on VJ, I believe the safest and surest route to a successful interview is to follow the USEM instructions. Because the USEM wants a tax return, it's wise to submit one. A vast majority of people do just that. Does anyone get away with submitting only transcripts? Of course. However, as I will say again, why would anyone ignore USEM instructions and risk a delay in their visa journey over such a simple matter.

If I were in your shoes, I would not reschedule the interview. Go ahead with the interview, and if the CO requires a tax return, he/she will issue your fiancée an MNL-IV-22. Then you simply submit the document through 2GO. It would be a minimal delay in issuing the visa. Best wishes! :star:

Your right, I did miss post 6, and if I had not, I could have saved you page after page of mindless Google cut and pastes and embarrassingly painfully wrong assertions about a subject that you could not grasp. It took about 2 minutes to read the poster who said he was turned down for a tax transcript to easily determine, he was turned down because he did not meet basic elegblity requirments for income in 2010, so was asked to submit proof of his 2011 income. If he had time to file it and get transcripts for the IRS for 2011 that would have been fine for evidence.

As I said earlier. I don't have any axe to grind with you expect that you regularly post misleading information, that I don't think serves to help make the process easier for people.

Philippines1040 vs IRS Transcripts

http://www.visajourn...21g-tax-return/

Good lord guys. Really.. I mean really...just as i thought and have been saying all along. The issue was not that he had used a Tax transcript, the issue was that he did not meet the eligibility guidelines on those tax transcripts, so they asked for more information.Which is exactly what I said the case was probably about. Once again it was not the Transcript that triggered the 221g, but the info on it.

If any of you had bothered to read and understand the post you would have read his further explanation that said..

"Yes I gave my fiance the IRS Tax Transcript (which was mailed to me from the IRS) and my W2. And they still request the W2 and now Tax Return.

Im concerned because I did not make enough in 2010, but I did in 2011. I just submitted my 2011 taxes and gave her both 2010 and 2011 Tax Return and W2s. Praying they will accept this now... "

Yes it did happen and I read the posting, like I told you a few posts back it just happened within the last couple weeks so you can find the thread easily enough. I read it and I KNOW he posted he was required to produce a TAX RETURN 1040 as he only send transcript to the interview.

ALL instructions for the 134 and the embassy state TAX RETURNS... why are you fighting the obvious.
[/quoteW

The website also says the benificary should schedule an appointment after the receive the package from the embassy.

Look here is the bottom line. I have a friend that works at one of the service centers, USICS sets the standards, and the embassy follows the guidelines, unless local customs dictate something that the state department has to approve. The Tax return transcript is perfeclt acceptable and used by 1000's every year in Manila. If some one says they got a refusal for that, then they are mistaken about the real cause. Maybe the transcript did not show enough income, but I promise you it was not for having a transcript alone.

So where is the post you all keep talking about ?? I can never seem to get that question answered ?

The only link i am interested in is the one , in which a poster is telling us the USEM gave him a MNL-IV-22, turned him down, told him to come back, did not let him have it the day or whatever you want to call it because he had a income tax transcript instead of a 1040. Cause that did not happen.

Thousands of people are processed every year at Manilla with a tax transcript and no one is going to get asked to furnish a 1040 in lieu of a tax transcript unless something else is wrong.

So so employee at USEM told you your package had to physically be at the embassy for you to schedule. Yeah right. LOL

Scheduling as soon as you get your MNL is one of the most widely talked about shortcuts

No not at all I just like posters to be sure what they are talking about when they give advice. In the link above what on the page specifically are you referring to.
