same day oath with interview

Philly does not do same day oath. They used to give out oath letters for next week's date at the end of successfull interviews, but that too is not done anymore. Now, the oaths are scheduled and letters are sent at a later date. The good part is that they still are doing multiple (administrative oath) ceremonies twice a week I.e. on Mondays and Fridays

I remembered that you posted this and dug it up. Richard's Philly interview was yesterday and he was told (he passed) and about eight weeks for the oath. I was surprised and was sure it would be at the latest next month. I guess we'll see. I saw they did Mondays since the folks were lined up for what I understood was a second oath session of the day (11 am.) It was exciting to see the families dresses up, carrying flags and even wearing funny Uncle Sam hats. I was born here and looking, I took a deep breath and I had renewed appreciation for what I had and where I was I from. BTW For everyone who took the test (and their spouses) who have never been to Philly, a number of question pertain to Philadelphia. If you every have the opportunity to visit, please do. It really is a historic wonderland.

Passport Application after Oath

Even we have two DOS agents in town that is barely on the map, one at the post office with less than a years experience, the other is the clerk of court that has been doing that for over twenty years. Choose her, more privacy and no lines. Stepdaughter elected to get hers at her university where they crank out passports like crazy for students studying overseas, still charge that 25 buck fee, know that, because I had to write out the check. But she told me her agent knew what they were doing.

With over 9,000 DOS agents in the USA, bound to find somebody, just get on their site to use that zip code locater, and no law where you have to get that done in your home town.

Thanks Nick, I'm thinking I went to the county courthouse for my PP rather than the PO that is listed on the website...shorter line and more privacy (great idea :thumbs:

Passport Application after Oath

With Richard's Oath ceremony looming (we hope) I checked the Passport site and it appeared that first time Passport applicants they must be applied for in person. Did I read that correctly. Not that it's big deal but with a trip on the horizon I don't want to make a mistake and delay the processing. Also it says there is fee for Express mail (which I would like to use.) If anyone has used this I was wondering if they issed a seperate check or added that amount in to the fee.

@NickD, I agree with your comments, its better to take everything as it all depends on IO. I will just pray to get a good IO and does not get into too many unnecessary documents or questions.

We did same thing. Richard applied under five year but since we're (still) married and have all the necessary documents he brought everything. The IO only wanted to see his Green Card. He also did not get yellow paper.

Ceremony at Atlanta..... how long??

I'm not sure how different the Philly & the Atlanta would be. Philly was pretty full and between the paperwork, instructions, the DVD's (welcome from the Presidents etc.) and the actual Oath, plus the first pledge of allegiance (as new citizens) the entire process was a tad over an hour. I have to say, the Philly folks were organized and it was the second session of the day (they have one at 9 am and one at 11am. Good luck and congratulations !

VOTER REGISTRATION MISTAKE

Jawaree are you saying that if they called u for jury duty, it's most likely bc u registered to vote? My husband was called once for jury duty and we had to bring the supreme court proof of his immigrant status and he went showed his EAD card and that's it.

My hubby was not registered to vote. We knew about not registering until you were a citizen but oddly he was called for Jury Duty. I thought it was bizarre, bc I was sure they got the jury pool from the voter registration. But he called and wrote back (with a copy of his green card) that he was not a citizen and could serve on a Jury.

if i get denied so my whole case will be over i mean aos roc and n400?? my whole paperwork was on the table front of the IO i saw them..i m just worried about that ..i searched my case status but still samething.. it says thatOn February 20, 2013, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was scheduled for interview. That is a good question for your lawyer. I know you may not have liked her but she is the one who went with you (and who you paid.) We only used a lawyer for our AOS and she was excellent. It does take time for your online status to update, even if you were approved. I suspect if they gave you a range with 90 days making an info-pass in 20 would be a waste of your time. But that's just my opinion. Believe me - your tip for the day ! (I work for the government) pestering them will not make them move faster :lol:

i asked to my lawyer after interview she said should be fine just wait be relax but i do not trust her .. she is not professional she just care of money talking thats it ..she did not do anything at the interview time..she just said.. what do they need to get document we gave them allready more document thats it.. so why IO said me desicion can not be making now?? i just do not understand and 30-90 is too long friends..did hey already more search about me and my relationship before interview??did you guys hear anybody who havesame stiuation about my case..i mean he or she got desicion can not be made now??if they had..did they get respond earlier then 1 month or just regular quote 30-90 they got respond ..??

I believe the 30 to 90 days is standard. To be honest, you have no choice other than to wait. Your situation is a little out of the ordinary, driving with suspended license is not an ordinary traffic ticket. But on the other hand, you are not an axe murderer :unsure:

I'm sure if you read though this forum you will see quite a few people that had some bumps in the road and how they handled them. Hopefully you will hear something positive sooner, rather than later. Getting upset won't make it go faster.

avor8.. my arrested story is that one day i got ticket about speed and i forgot to pay it i thought i paid but i did not so thats why i did not go to the court ..speed ticket limit was 65 but my speed was 92.. anyway my ticket amount was 299$.. several mounth later police stoped me and they arrest me i paid my all ticket my dl was suspended.the reason of my arres.. drive card with suspended driver licance out of state..i stayed one night at detention center and i paid 2800$ with bailbond.. then they let me put..no injured or no public damage or nothingelse.my IO was so fast..he almost did not look my face .. always was working on my paperwork while he was asking to my questions.. can i ask question to you guys..?? is there any camera to recorded out interview? are they gonna check home investigation while desicion can not made now.. i mean still case pending ?? are they gonna care of my behaviour during the interview ?? because i was a litlle bit exciting.. at the beginning i sat down directly but he said stend up and raise upyour hand we will start oat allegiance..they will review my whole paperwork or just arrest case ?? advice pls ??

I would imagine they do not have cameras back in the interview area, but getting excited won't but you in front of the to get your case processed either. They can and will review your entire file. would think unless there was a red flag in the file or with something you said they will not need to make a home visit. But for curiously, what the heck to your attorney did and what is he saying? At this stage most of us are past using lawyers. The paperwork is straightforward and it's just a matter of getting your docs together. So, you must have gotten something from him. I am not giving you a hard time. But you are coming here for advice, which everyone is happy to give you, but you paid someone for advice. Are you checking to see if our advice lines up with his/hers or did not get any ? Good luck in any event !

hi today i had interview at philadelphia local office.. my officer was a man and he is like a idiot . my interview was so odd. they asked me about my relationship with my wifes. i bringed all document which i submitted before.firstly he asked me civis questions and then he went to the application check.. he asked me that questions
Then he proceeded to the civic questions:
-What does the President cabinet do? - advises the president
-How many justices are there on the supreme court? - 9
-Name one branch or part of the government? - Legislative
-If both the President and vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President? - Speaker of the house
-What did the Declaration of Independence do? - declared our independence from Great Britain.

i answered them correctly. my lawyer was with me but she did not do anything..it was very fast just 20 minutes may be .o arrested ones time because of traffic ticket.. i got ticket i forgat to pay thats why i did not go to the court. i arrested and stayed just one night in detention centre..he asked me about me and my wifes relationship. at the end of the interview he said you passed civic test but desicion can not be made now we will mail to you later between 30 - 90.. damn it is too long time i m so sad and nervous now. pls just write comment and advice me .. whats gonna be happen after this time ??my case maybe denied i think . i do not know did you guys head any denied case because of which reason??

I can't advise you because I have no solid advice (from experience). But, you paid an attorney to accompany you, so he is the one who should be able to answer your questions. I don't think it s unusual for IO to ask about the relationship between the applicant and their spouse, since they (you) are filing on the basis of that relationship. I saw your next post and if you obsess about checking your online status you will drive yourself insane. Calm down (you really have no choice.) Good luck !!!

do you guys any idea about the oath ceremony in philadelphia local office?? or how can i find a information about when the oath ceremonies dates in the philadelphia local office??

It seems that they have them fairly frequently. I know that we were there on a Monday, March 4th and they were having two oath ceremonies that day (9 am and 11 am). Richard's ceremony was two weeks later on Monday March 18th at 11 am and I know they also had a ceremony at 9am. I could find no information regarding actual dates posted anywhere. I hope this helps.

I have no idea if there is an extra fee is same day service. We paid extra to expedite (not traveling until June) Richard had his passport appointment at the local post office on a Monday and the passport arrive eleven days later his naturalization certification came two days later.

Hi Bettenan,

I have a question with regards to the signatures on Certificate of Naturalization. We were not provided any instructions orally about the signatures and apparently there seems to be some confusion about it. On the certificate, they have printed my usual signature (like on driver's license) next to my photograph (on the left side) which is a kind of illegible scrawl using my initials. The instructions at the back of the certificate states that I would have to sign my full name both on the line as well on the photograph on the right side.

I am confused, should I have to use my usual signature that appears on the certificate right now or use the full name on the photograph as well on the line in the certificate? Further, which signature would I have to use for my passport application?

Any information will be well appreciated.

They were very clear that the signature on your Certificate is how you should sign it. Richard's signature is a scrawl. So ii was no issue with matching, but I did pay attention and they did say when doing their "house keeping" to make sure all signatures on the certificate matched. I hope this helps.

Happy to state that my wife and I passed the interview last Thursday. Luckily for us the oath was administered that same afternoon and we received our Certificates of Naturalization. It has been a long 15 year journey. I would like to thank the forum members for all their inputs during the application process. All the information that you provided was very valuable and kept our nerves in check during the interview. Our journey has finally come to an end! Richard's oath ceremony was this morning and it was a lovely and touching event, I have to say everyone at the Philadelphia USCIS office was polite and friendly, many offered congratulations along the way, It really seemed that they enjoyed their jobs. The place packed with "new Citizens" and their families and friends and Richard looked so handsome in his navy suit and his American flag tie. My daughter, granddaughter and I had little flags to wave and it was just wonderful. Of course I must give props and thanks to the visajourney forum and participants for advice and support over the entire immigration process.
On to the Passport and upgrading Social Security (and of course registering to vote) but the hard part is done. Best wishes and best of luck to all that are behind us.

hi again!! what you ean NO documents? bettenan did you get your oath letter? like a when and where ??did the IO want to look to your all docuents?? i mean for example did she ask to you where is your spouse birth certificate i want to see it ??

The IO did not ask to see any documents at all. He naturalized under the five year ( no reason other than the fact we were lazy), so they should not have asked for it, but he brought it just in case.
The oath letter arrived today. The oath ceremony is on March 18th same place as the interview.

The office is on1600 Callowhill. Allow time to go through security and find parking (if you are driving) and/or allow for traffic on I95 if you are coming from the N and not used to the new traffic patterns :bonk:

Richard has had his perm green card longer than five years but since we are married and I am an Americamn citizen. I prepared a (just in case) file with:
His passport
Green card
Our Marriage License
Divorce decrees (for both of us)
My birth certificate (showing I was born in US)
HUD-1 (both names) from eight years ago
current water bill (same address both names)
invoice in both name for cruise scheuled for June
tax transcripts for 2011, 10 and 09

I also prepared copies in a seperate file of each document

I did not go back. Richard said the IO was professional but pleasant. She asked for NO documents.

I hope your interview comes through soon, if you have not heard yet.

. I suspect it was for one of two reasons either they don't want you to bug them after a couple week/a month or they expect a slow down (furloughs) due to the sequestration. Either way we hope it's sooner but will wait patiently.

Interview is done :dance:

. We drove down to Philly for 10:30 am appointment time (arrived about 20 minutes early found on street parking.) We went through security, they were cautious but polite. Richard was taken back at 10:48 and was done eight minutes later. I asked him what questions he was asked and he said he did not remember, after quizzing him for months he just happy for it to be over. He was told he would get his oath letter for a ceremony in about eight weeks. I was hoping for sooner, since we are traveling in June. But the interviewer assured him it would be in plenty of time for our trip with expedited Passport handling. I am hoping the sequester does not foul things up but truthfully it is what it and if he has travel on his UK Passport again, no biggie. Good luck to all that follow, may you interviews be this easy :thumbs:
