QUOTE (20butterflies @ Dec 8 2008, 03:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
i don't know if anyone asked this before i couldn't find it, but my fiance was just told by a lawyer that one of the conditions 4 the fiance visa is that we can prove we've been together for 2 years?! unsure.gif i would really appreciate it if someone could let me know if that's the case.. thanks lots!!

well you have to prove that you've met at LEAST once in the past 2 years.
pictures, tickets, etc...
AND proof of an ongoing relationship: phone bills, IMs...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresso what, exactly, does an NOA2 mean?
well thanks for your input, everybody. this process has made me pretty jaded. i dislike not being completely in control of things. the process is self explanatory but you could get denied for any damn reason at any point in the process. i wish it were more fair somehow. like an interview over 3 days or something. more personal. but i guess red tape is all about the hive mind and lack of emotion.

everybody have a good holiday and hang in there...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresso what, exactly, does an NOA2 mean?
like, really mean? what does it entitle us to? seems like it's just one more bureaucratic hurdle and doesn't mean much. nothing is really approved until you can prove your fiancee isnt going to be a bum and you have the interview. so why am i made to think this is exciting?

i can see now how language might be a much larger barrier than i originally thought. being on this forum, you don't hear relationship problems a lot, but the nuances of dating someone from another country are certainly a big deal.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMy adjudication date keeps moving forward!
At first it was between Dec. 25th and Jan. 1st (that seemed like a nice time to get it)
THEN is was between Jan 5th. and Jan 13th. (this sucked, but I wasn't going to freak out about it)
NOW it's between Jan. 17th and Jan. 30th!!!

Will the dates keep getting further away the closer we get to it? It feels neverending and I want to cry!

The I-134 is submitted to the embassy/consulate along with the rest of the required info after the NOA2 is received.

Parents are worried that your fiance will steal their identity? rofl.gif

All the parent submits is tax transcripts for the past couple of years and an employer letter. All the bank account, etc. info isn't typically needed for the I-134.

Have your folks read through the I-134 and I-864 forms and instructions to learn what is to be submitted and the sponsor's responsibilities? That might help them to better understand the process.

well no. obviously they're not worried about my fiancee, but if the packet got lost or stolen that's a lot of info right there.

he is going to send the first part of the packet, which is the online form, the bio, and the checklist.
i'm assuming the affadavit gets sent after the next round of paperwork gets to him?

i am filling one out, as are my parents (who are co-sponsors) but i'm wondering where in the process this gets sent to the consulate. my parents are pretty wary of sending all their personal financial information.

my fiancee is filling out packet 3. can my parents send this info directly to the consulate or does it need to be sent with other things?

thanks again you guys!

Weird! I think it all depends on the day and time you are using the site. I've heard stories of a lot of people having problems... it times out, or just stops loading, or rejects the photo even though it meets the guidelines. Completely frustrating! I'd just leave it for now and come back later. When I filled it out it took me about 20 minutes, problem free.

i've tried 3 days in a row sad.gif finally i found an email address and even though i wanted to vent, i calmly left them an email asking to please advise. we'll see if it makes any difference.

so i'm filling out the form online (DS-160) and when it comes to uploading a photo- i get an error page.
so when i go to the "Contact us" link to tell them to get their s**t together- ANOTHER error page.

this is frigging RIDICULOUS. it's like they do this ####### to trip us up and frustrate us.
im so f**king sick of all this bureaucracy. and typing out the same thing not 3 times, but SEVERAL times.
the least these people can do is keep their webpages up to date and free of errors.
is that so damn hard?

you should definately put permanent

you can't TYPE anything in. you have to put an actual number of years. i guess i could put 50 or 100, but i want to put what they are looking for specifically because we are so close and this stupid question is the last thing i want screwing us up.

Are you sure you have the right form?
DS 160 is intended for nonimmigrant visas such as B2.
See http://www.usimmigra...orm_ds160.htmlv

The online form for spousal and fiance petitions is DS-156
On that form, in box 26 "How long do you intend to stay in the US?" we entered "Permanently"

how long ago did you fill that out?

"DS-160 (NEW): Coming Soon. The new DS-160 Online, Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, will eventually replace current nonimmigrant application forms DS-156, 157, 158, and other related forms, such as the DS-156E, 156K, and 156V. The roll-out of the new DS-160 will be gradual. Therefore, not all U.S. Embassies and Consulates will be required to use the form at the same time. U.S. Embassies and Consulates currently using the new form DS-160 are the following:CANADA: Vancouver and Montreal only, IRELAND: Dublin, LIBYA: Tripoli, MEXICO: Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Juarez, Matamoros and Monterrey only and Hong Kong S.A.R. Nonimmigrant visa applicants will need to review U.S. Embassy website how-to-apply instructions for more details, as well as these Frequently Asked Questions for using DS-160 Online. Learn More about the form DS-160. Check back later for implementation update announcements. "

our paperwork wants DS-160. and there is no place to write "permanently" or anything else :\

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresquestion about online form DS-160
on the online form it asks how long you plan on staying in the united states once you get here. it's not something where you can type in "n/a" or "forever because i'm getting married". it lets you type in (blank) # of years. i'm considering putting in 20 years, but i'm fairly bewildered at the question altogether and the lack of explanation you can give! really bizarre.

has anyone filled this out? how many years did you put?
thanks in advance, guys!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFirst steps to Filing the Fiance Visa?
Hello
I am new and well about to begin my journey. It looks like we might go with the Fiance visa as the quickest way for me to legally get to the US. I would like to know how it all works out after we file what are we to expect, in terms of time? and what the outcomes if we get approved are? what kinds marriage can you really have planned in 3 months? what happens after you get married? I really appriciate all the advice from everyone.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiling for EAD and medical exam questions?
Wow, even if your Canadian. I've had the TB test done as part of school back in 2003 since I am a day care teacher, that is required to work with kids. Also HIV i havent had it but were not exposed so no need for that but i guess you cant tell them that. Can you bring your medical history to the exam will it help so you dont have to get certain ones again? I am currently 6 months pregnant so my medical is up to date with everything pretty much. I checked in terms of vaccinations and I have all the same required ones as US does since I dont think Canada and US have a big difference in terms of the vaccination scheduel. Another question will my daughter she is due in April, also need to go through the exam? will be filing for a counsel of birth report for her, so she falls under US citizen birth aboard.

Also once it is approved and after marriage, do you need to work? in order to stay in the US to get permenant residancy?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPlanning a wedding in 3 months?
I was just thinking today about the kind of wedding your really allowed to have on a K-1 Visa? 3 months is quite short to put a wedding together. I've heard that civil would be the fastest way to get a licence but, some dont feel that as a real thing. Marriage and weddings are big in my family and backround as I am Italian, I just cant go with a civil, its like getting married in a court or something. But can you really put a big wedding together or even a proper wedding in 3 months? I would really appriciate some advice.

just my opinion - civil rights are probably more protected in the UK than over here.

Well that's laughable, in my opinion. laughing.gif

Anyway, as the above posters have advised, get someone else to be the sponsor - in my case it was my fiance's father. You can get it notarised at the embassy in London. It's good that you have so much proof - that is your main concern.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurestranslation service

Translations for USCIS do not have to be done by a certified translator as many members can attest to. It only needs to be done by someone that is conversant in both the english and foreign language and certifed as such using the format that Mew linked.

OK that's good news! Thank you... I'm just beginning this process and I can't tell you how relieved I am to have this forum.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI know I should be happy, but...
Yesterday I received email from USCIS informing me that my case has been approved, barely three weeks since I sent my I129f to the VSC.

I know I should be pleased, but the day after I sent the package I realized that I'd inadvertantly sent a COPY of the docs with original signatures. I've been glumly waiting for an RFE... and now I'm a bit shocked.

I'm guessing no one can answer this, but what's the chance of this being flagged now that my case is being forwarded to the NVC?

Maybe, if in addition to other evidence. I'd switch my calling method to one that provides call records.

We have over a thousand emails to each other and proof of my three visits to see her. Will not having written phone records really make a big difference at her interview?
