US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156K (UK embassy)
A few questions:

#14. National identification number? What is this?

#26-28, what do we fill in for this since it's a K-1 visa? Right now we have "indefinitely" for 26, "marriage, entering on K-1 visa" for 27 and "I will" for 28.

#22. When do you intend on entering the US....what should we say? Should we put what month he's hoping to arrive?

does your packet 3 require you to send in the evidence of financial support in before the interview?
if so there is a great chance that you have to send some evidence in with the packet 3.

No. Financial stuff isn't required until the interview.

In the list of required documents to include with this form, it states "evidence of engagement". I thought this was just required at the interview stage with the proof of ongoing relationship. Does anyone know what they're looking for?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHELP! Need last-minute packet 3 confirmation
Hello. My fiance is going to submit his packet 3 forms this week. I just want to make sure we're doing it right.

We're sending:

Cover Letter
DS-230 Part 1
DS 2001 (checklist)
Form DS-156 (original in duplicate)
Form DS-157 (original in duplicate)
Form DS-156-K

URGENT: I was told he doesn't need to submit evidence as suggested on the DS-230, is this correct? We DO NOT need to send a new letter of intent, birth certificate, police certificate, etc? We have them ready of course if need be.
He already had his medical, but we had a small issue and he needs to go back and get a letter from his GP this week before they will send off his results. Should we put the date of his appointment (Dec 2nd) and clarify that we're watiing on that information or is just putting "Dec 2" ok?

Thanks so much!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnother I-134 Question
Actually, after reading your response I looked at the form online and there was no drop down menu for that small line. It's not the same line as "relationship to beneficiary", it's right before the bottom signature line. I'm just initialing it because it says "I acknowledge". I hope this is right.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnother I-134 Question
Sorry to add another I-134 thread.

I have a few questions. There are 2 lines at the bottom, a short one under "I acknowledge..." then a long one to sign. Is the short one meant to be initialed?

I am only stating my salary information (don't own a house and my bank balance is sad), it's more than enough to qualify. I'm including a letter from my employer, my official IRS tax transcripts from the last three years, W2s to match, and a few recent pay stubs. Is this enough?

Also on the letter of employment I received from HR, they state that I work 40 hours a week and that my position (since 07) will be continuous as long as it's not eliminated and that I continue to meet company standards. This should be ok for evidence of permanent employment, right...or should I have them write me another letter saying it specifically?

Thanks for your help.

DOS will be able to tell you when your case reaches London, when Pk3 is sent out, and when Pk3 is logged. They won't send out Pk4 (interview date e-mail/letter) without the medical results being joined to your casefile. Early medical won't make any difference

I really appreciate your responses. Might I ask how you know this information? I see that you only just started the process and I'm curious. I hope you're right!

Hmm. They told him it's 90 pounds to reschedule! That's crazy. I'm wondering if we should just risk it and have it this week. When I call and inquire about our case over the next month, can they tell me over the phone if his medical results have been received so I'll know if something went wrong? I don't want our interview to be held up, that's my biggest concern.

The medical is good for one year. You should be fine, depending on how long the AOS takes.

OH MY GOD. We're getting married on the same day! That's so crazy.

Wait I just read this on the VJ embassy section:

The visa interview will not be scheduled until the Embassy has received the results of the medical examination, so get the medical acheduled early, but after you have returned the forms and checklist so your files will match up.

This worries me. Do you think we should reschedule until we have sent in our packet 3 forms?
gap1FemaleUnited Kingdom2010-11-29 13:07:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Appointment (London Embassy)

Nope. It makes no difference. And the medical appointments can be gotten much faster than the interview. Even when they are super busy, they can usually get someone an appointment in about 2 weeks.

Out of curiosity, did they tell your fiance to bring his police report? They have mentioned that to others, and I wasn't sure if it was standard procedure now.

My fiance received the below email, which does include the police certificate.

Please ensure you bring the following:

Passport or driving licence
1 x passport picture
Medical Questionnaire filled out
Any vaccination records you have
If you have had or have any ongoing medical conditions, disabilities or take any medication please bring further information
Copy of police certificate

Is there some sort of medical exam expiration date regarding the AOS stage? Someone mentioned to me they might have read that somewhere. We aren't planning on getting married until April (pending any visa problems), so these results will be 4-5 months old by then.

Wow, my fiance called to schedule it and they're getting him in this Thursday! That was crazy fast! I thought it took a while, which is why we called so early. Our case should be at the embassy any day now, do you think it's going to be a problem if his medical happens before they receive our case?

Thanks, we've had our LDN case number since last week. I just wanted to make sure he could go ahead and book his appointment.

He's going to see his GP to update any vaccines. If he needs any, does he need to bring a record of this with him to Knightsbridge?

We are waiting for our petition to arrive at the embassy. It was mailed last week so it should be any day. I have a few questions.

Should my fiance book his medical now, or do we have to wait for packets?

He has an appointment with his GP to get his vaccine records and update them (if need be). He can do this before his medical appointment, right? Does he bring his records to Knightsbridge or will they look it up?

After his medical, they send his results directly to the embassy, correct? He doesn't need to have it completed before they schedule our interview, he just needs it completed before the interview date right?

Thanks for your help.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDid Not Receive Sealed Envelope...

The infamous sealed envelope will be delivered to Tom in the post, as stated above. The Embassy need to collate all of Toms documents, before they get put into the POE envelope, which is not done on the same day as the interview.

You can even call DOS at this point to see if his passport has been handed over to the courier company for delivery.

Do you happen to have that number handy? I can't find it...

EDIT: Never mind, I have it.

I hope you're right! I've read a lot of embassy reviews stating that they received the Magic Envelope at the interview, so we were worried. My fiance was too excited after hearing the word "approved" he forgot about it!

We should be getting the visa in a few days.

My fiance just returned from his interview yesterday and we were approved...but he said he didn't receive a sealed envelope for POE, just the x-ray CD. Everyone I've spoken to has gotten this envelope...what should we do? I'm going to have him contact the consulate ASAP. Do you think it could be included in the package with his visa? Everyone else seemed to have gotten this at the interview.

Oh I'm the American petitioner, he's the UK beneficiary! He's probably going to have a get together with some friends next week or so. I've called the DOS every day since Monday (the date of his interview) and it's still "processing". We're still well within the range they gave us, and we still have until the 24th so I'm not getting TOO concerned now. If it's not there by next week I'll start to panic.

They told us at the interview it would take 3-5 business days. Today marks the 4th and nothing yet...we have booked our flight so it's a bit worrying, but we still have 2 weeks.

It only took a recent interviewee 3 days.

Welcome home, Paul! I posted a comment on your profile, but I can also ask here. Did you receive a sealed envelope at the interview or did you get it with your visa package? Tom didn't get anything other than the x-ray CD and we're nervous.

I am so incredibly happy for you both and thank you SO MUCH for helping us. We were so lucky to have such similar timelines. We need to keep in touch.

I've mentioned this before, but we never ended up getting P3 at all. We just confirmed they logged our case then we went ahead and sent in the forms without actually getting the packet. You don't need it.

All my fiance received in the mail was a poorly-formatted letter telling him to book a medical appointment a month after he had it.
gap1FemaleUnited Kingdom2011-02-14 13:30:00
US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpacket 3 london

Dunno. If she would scan her letter and post it, we'd know what it says. Letters, RFEs, forms etc tend to be one-size-fits-all so can be very general or vague if you try to think it is written specifically to you about your case.

Part 2 is for immigrant visas like CR1, normally sent to the NVC for processing.

It wasn't in the letter, it's on the UK embassy site. It's here: http://photos.state....visa/iv_019.pdf

Again, please keep in mind a lot of UK applicants did not receive a P3 in the mail. I wouldn't wait to get a physical copy if I were you otherwise you'll be waiting forever. If we had waited for it we would still be waiting instead of at our interview stage. Just confirm your case has been logged then send out your forms.

I wouldn't wait for P3 if I were you, we never got one and a few other couples on here had the same story. All we got was a single letter telling us to book a medical appointment (1 month after he had his medical haha). No links or instructions. All you should do is confirm that you case has been logged by calling the State Department and go ahead and send your forms. It will save you loads of time.

We have an interview date and I'm just going through some requirements. It mentions the DS-230 (part 2) and that it's needed on the day of the interview, is this true or is this just for people bringing family members with them?

Nich-Nick isn't the one who said that. I don't think it's on any K1 instructions from London.

Part 2 is for immigrant visas like the CR1 where you are already married to a USC or employment visas How did you answer question 43? Do you want the Social Security Administration to issue you a card? They do that for CR1 and work visas because SS card are sent shortly after POE becaused they are entering the US already approved to work. That doesn't apply to K1s. Did you swear to and sign TWO sworn statements at the interview? One on p.4 of the DS-230 and one on DS-156K? I think the DS-156K (K as in K visa) is covering the things part 2 would for other visas.

But you guys have a choice now based on a couple of opinions.

Sorry, I meant to say Ameribrit.

You definitely DO need it at the interview. I can't remember where I saw it. It's mentioned on one of the checklists on the London Embassy site. They don't make it easy, do they?

I believe he answered yes to question 43...but he already has a SSN from studying here in 07 so maybe that has something to do with it. We weren't the only ones asked for it, though.

Yeah, I read on one of the millions of checklists on the embassy site that the DS-230 (part 2) was required, which I hadn't noticed or read before. As Nich-Nick said, both my fiance and Paul were asked for a copy. You definitely need it.

Oh fantastic...I have seen a few people talk about cover letters. Is there a format I should follow (things they want to see) or just a general cover letter).

Furthermore, as you know, the DS-230 comes in two parts, though they are part of the same PDF file. Do I really only send part 1?

Thanks,

J

Definitely send them before getting your letter. There is no need to wait. I think you've been waiting long enough; you shouldn't tack on more time if it's unnecessary.

DS-230 (part 1) goes with P3, part 2 goes with you to the interview.

i KNOW you are right re the papers to bring - only a few, but i can't bring myself not to bring it all! cause you hear about them losing photos or documents and so i'm just gonna hoik all the ####### ( i wont need!) down to london with me :)

Believe me, dealing with wasting time and paper is far better than dealing with a delay in your visa simply because you didn't have 1 piece of paper they needed, right? It's peace of mind. They've already put you through so much, don't let them screw you even further with a processing error or a lost form. You want to be able to hold up a copy and say "See, you're wrong! Give me my visa, bitches!"

Just sayin'.

I'll make sure my fiancee signs her 2010 W2 before she mails it to me then :)

We're going to use IRS transcripts, W2s, pay stubs, and a letter from her employer as evidence for the affidavit. I hope that will be enough.

Well the last 2 VJ London interviews (mine and Paul's) only asked for 2010 tax information only. They didn't even ask for the employment letter or pay stubs! You will be more than fine as long as you meet the income requirements.

Signed by the petitioner? I haven't read anything about that before now

A lot of people I partnered up with regarding paperwork told me to have it signed. Not sure if it's required, but we did just to be safe. Not all W2s, just 2010 if you haven't yet filed taxes this year. If they've filed the return will already be signed. Note that I filed online before his interview, which doesn't require a signature, so I just signed the pages, scanned them, and emailed them to my fiance.

I would assume the copy would be ok, especially considering this information isn't listed on the necessary documents on the checklist. Maybe Paul's fiancee (the interviewee asked for it) didn't provide a clear enough copy on the I-129F or something.

yeah, better safe than sorry as they say!

i already have a massive binder of stuff to take so one more paper won't hurt!

i don't have a copy of our i 129 form - do you guys?

and also - have you got your 2011 w2 tax form yet? my man is still waiting for his...

ooh, and also - heard anything about being able / NOT being able to take a ring binder into the embassy?? because of the metal??

might post that question seperately....it's this crazy tiny detail stuff that makes me feel mental :hehe:

but only a few(ish) more days until interview and then this is all over

until AOS time

Believe me, it's best to bring EVERYTHING. I had my fiance bring the following:

passport
4 passport photos
interview letter
visa fee receipt (signed)
DS-230 part 2 (not signed)
NOA2 copy
I-134 form
Official IRS tax transcripts 2007-2009 (in duplicate)
2010 W2 (in duplicate, SIGNED if you haven't yet filed)
2010 1040 (in duplicate, I had already filed, but if you haven't the signed W2 is fine)
Letter from employer (in duplicate)
UK police check (original and copy)
Petitioner's birth certificate (original and copy)
Beneficiary's birth certificate (long form, original and copy)
Copy of I-129F packet
Copy of packet 3
Copy of medical letter (we had to get a specialist letter for his exam)
Light relationship evidence (just a few recent photos together and copies of some letters and cards with postmarked envelopes)

In the end, he was only asked for 2 photos, passport, interview letter, visa fee receipt, I-134, 2010 tax information, DS-230, his birth certificate and copy, and police check. That said, the woman did confuse his file with someone from the same name and he did need to provide a copy of his DS-156 form from packet 3 to clear it up so it's important to have this stuff since you never know what processing errors may occur.

Hello

I am not 100% sure how we need to for a US citizenship for a child born in Canada. I am currently 28 weeks pregnant with my first. My boyfriend is a US born citizen, some may remember me from my above posts. I am applying for a Fiance Visa to gain my US Citizenship. I will be giving birth in Canada, and she will acquire US citizenship at birth. What is the process to obtaining that citizenship including passport and everything. I was told I need to fill out a Consular Report of Birth by someone here? is that true? or do I just go to the US embasy here to register her birth? also what will she receive after?

Hard thing to find out after such a long time waiting for the interview. This is something she should of told you much earlier. Now you both have to wait, who knows for how long. I understand the Embassy and the suspicion. I dont know your story but I would search for some answers. Love can sometimes be blind, but we should all learn from our own mistakes.

Hi Everyone!

Page 10 contains a comment stating, "Do not complete Parts 13 and 14 until a USCIS Officer instructs you to do so." Question: Does this mean that my husband should not print and sign his name at the very bottom of the application when he mails it in? Or should he leave that part blank and wait until his interview?

Thanks

Boaz

You should not write or sign ANYTHING after the line that states "NOTE: Do not complete parts 13 & 14 unit a USCIS Officer instructs you to do so."
