the same way you can be aware and be prepared in someplace like detroit. watch your ####. don't go out at night in places that you know are unsafe. keep your expensive belongings (ipods) hidden when youre on public transportation. don't court problems with people. know where you are and where you're going. look around. see people looking suspicious? walk away. stay where there are lots of people and places to be. carry a whistle or mace or an airhorn with you.

No, that was my point. I think if you grow up in a large urban area, you know what to look for, you are aware of certain things that someone from a smaller town might not be. I've cut through central park once. Was good exercise getting chaced by a feral pack of homeless. My friend was laughing her #### off when I got back to Brooklyn and told her what I did. Aparently, you're not supposed to cut through the park at 3 a.m. laughing.gif


smaller towns scare me, frankly. i used to live in portland, oregon. a small city. and while i felt pretty safe- they have a large amount of crazy-assed meth heads over there. who knows what those type of people are willing to do. you know?

meanwhile, times square is now disneyland II: electric boogaloo! can't find a decent hooker anyplace here nowadays... wink.gif

ps: yeah if you can go around central park at 3 am- it would be your best bet. hah!

me? some parts of central park are safer than others. i'd be more worried about being bitten by a rabid squirrel! i've been in the park late at night and because i have COMMON SENSE and am AWARE, i did feel a slight sense of urgency to quickstep it, but i did not feel impending doom.
i'd be more likely to walk through the park on the weekend, actually, because the bridge & tunnel crowd are in town getting drunk, so there are more people around.
all of this is irrelevant though, because i'm never on the west side tongue.gif

i think most of us here- our chances of being murdered are pretty low. unless you're involved in something you shouldn't be or are not being very aware.

well...i mean it's really fear of the unknown. just as long as you don't make it fear of a certain people.

personally, small towns creep me out.

i feel safer here in nyc than anyplace i've ever been in the whole world.
there's ALWAYS someone around. there are ALWAYS places open that you can duck into if you ever did feel threatened.
you know not to wear expensive ###### late at night on the subway, keep to yourself- don't make yourself a target. these are common sense things though.
i know very few people who have been mugged- mostly tourists who don't follow common sense rules.
i live in spanish harlem. it's not exactly "glamorous" but i certainly do not feel unsafe at night if i need to go get something at the bodega.

i feel like a lot of this "fear" might be xenophobia...

well no. he'll be getting a job and my parent's will support us until he gets on his feet here.



correct - they don't care if he received UI in Canada - his Cdn income (of whatever description) doesn't figure into things - you have no worries. They only want to know that you have the means to support him when he moves to the US

I got my appointment for the Biometrics for August 29th...very excited ! Im going for the Dual Citizenship, wouldn't drop my German Citizenship..what about you ?

I am doing dual as well! just couldn't see myself giving up the good ol' german citizenship ;)

 

I was scheduled for 08/29 as well but decided to do a walk-in on 08/22 and they were able to do it for me. If you are going to the NYC office it will be pretty smooth sailing ... let's hope the rest will be too so we can inform the Germans about our new citizenship :)

Since the "BIO" office is down the street from where I live and I have taken the day off to celebrate my birthday I figured I give it a try and simply walk in. Without a problem I was allowed to do my fingerprinst and photo, and it only took about half hour total at the NYC office (in case any of you have to go there as well). 

 

I have made changes below and now off to wait for the next step :)

I got one child not two, that is very helpful, and yea I understand and I am prepared for that I have been seperated longer. We got all the proof we need if they ask for it. Will it affect anything because he is also a Canadian Citizen?

Hi guys
I am fairly new to the site and the process. I have not started mine yet but are intended to soon. Before I do I want to know a little bit more about the Canadian way of processing the K-1 visa. My situation is a little bit different than most I would assume. My fiance is currently here with me home for the summer, and for the birth of our 3 month old now. He is a dual citizen, so he lives both here and in the states. My daughter is now officially a dual citizen as well we received her counselor report birth certificate last week. We are now just waiting for her US passport. In Aug my fiance has to return to Florida where he attends school. I will be going with him this time, as in the passed we'd seperate for months at a time. Now we both decided to not seperate anymore for our daughter. I am aware that I can only stay in US for 6 months at a time. We do plan to apply once we get there. Do we need to apply here in Canada? or can we apply in Florida as well? once we have applied what is the intial time frame that I would be allowed to stay with him? not including returning for the Interview here. My fiance comes to Canada several times a year so we do not have a reason to give them for not returning here. Has anyone experienced problems with that? not being allowed back?

You will need a legible note from your doctor outlining the reason for the contraindication. For additional information on immunizations and pregnancy


So that would be if i get a reason from my doctor that would risk me getting this shot?

I just think its stupid, to force you in to something so personal, just another way for US to pump us with more toxins, they only got 36 vaccines on there scheduel as if that isnt enough. Well as I said I rather get the extra months than get that near me. It is not a safe shot, there are so many srious side effects and even the FDA it self now put out warnings about it. I am glad those that don't have any problems after getting it let's really hope it stays that way, but what about the 9000 other reported cases since 2006 of the shot causing life threatning effects in girls as young as 13 years old that is just not right. America is known for the whole vaccination contraversial debate and the autism link, they give us way too much toxins, what about those with problems from it no one is hearing them out they just get slaped in the face and told it wassnt the vaccine's fault well its there way to protect themselves from a huge lawsuit. They don't care about our health but there money and how much they make on thousands of immigrants and citizens getting vaccines. And its not like the other vaccines where yea i am all for they are serious, but gardisil is really a personal decision, if you are not exposed to cervical cancer or any source to get it from why get the shot? yea so it says it protects you but you never know when it can cause a side effect, I just dont think the shot is safe enough or enough studies done to make sure it doesnt happen. What about religious beliefs? here in Canada the catholic school boards have banned it due to beliefs against sex before marriage. It is just plain wrong to force something upon someone when its on the basis of religion and personal decision.

Well I rather wait than be forced in to something you dont want, and the risks are not worth it. So I rather be delayed if it means cutting the risks, if I wanted the vaccine I would have got it on my own already, but why be forced in to a vaccine that should not be forced on to, its not like mumps or measels, it is preventable.

Anyone here had to get the shots for the requirement, I just learned yesterday its part of it if your under 26? and i am quite upset about that, I for one do not want it or believe in it, and are willing to take the risk associated with it. Why in the world would they force us to take it? are they that low that they would think that we'd go around cathching something so we'd put there country at risk? well I am under 26 and in that pool, and seriously considering to get and exemption from it has anyone had experience with this and got out of it? I heard its a big debate about this shot.

Yes we got her counselor report were just waiting for her US passport to still get here. We got her Canadian as well, and no i've never been on EI, I been working as a supply since I graduated from college I never took a full time permanant position. I am still in school part time and working trying to get in to University. I dont need EI at the moment I plan to go back to work sometimes in the spring next year once my daughter is a year old. The support issue isnt a problem we are financially stable enough. I do have letters from work stating that I worked there and I am still on there call list. Also I got a letter from my school which states I will need to report back to complete my exam etc. I am going through alternative Adult learning High school courses which are self reliant, I only got one left to finish which is like two units which I will finish within one semester to a few months. So I will need to return to corospond with my teachers. We've set a date and were leaving on Aug 8th from here, were driving.

Lol thanks guys that helps, and yea I got ties here I dont have a full time job I work as a supply day care teacher. But I do have corrospondense school ties and bank stuff etc. I wont be staying the full 6 months, If we do apply for the visa and if nottin is approved before the 6 months which would be around Feb. I will be back in Canada in December for x-mas. My fiance always returns home for holidays. In terms of my daughter they wont care she's an American citizen the least they will want to know is who the father is and if we got permission to travel which my fiance is anyways. She's got his last name too so they wont nag about that, Its me they will ask questions since I am not American.

I got a few questions, it is nearing the time that my fiance has to return to Florida in Aug, I am going along with him. We hope to be able to apply for the fiance visa before we go but if we dont end up to will apply in Florida. I am legally allowed to stay there for six months, which will be returing for the holidays anyways in dec. My questions are once I get to the boarder I am aware they will ask me alot of questions. We got nothing to hide and will be honest, do I tell them I plan to stay up to 6 months? or exactly how long? also if we haven't applied for the visa yet do I tell them we plan too once we get to Florida? also we do plan to bring some stuff with us for our daughter, i am aware i have to be careful to not make it look like were moving there, but can't I just say its for her? for his place there when she visits? most of the stuff I am bringing is just her stroller and car seat which is mobile will be coming back. We also decided will be driving not flying, it will be easier, any advice supposed to flying? this is my first time in this situation and now with a child crossing the boarder.
