Canadahow much money do you need to get into the states?
hello everyone!
g's moving day to the states is just 2 weeks away and i have a VERY important question for you...
do they ask how much money you have when you cross the border with the k-1 visa? do you need a certain amount to cross?
because my fiance has practically NONE. i mean seriously. is there a baseline requirement or do they just let you pass through without asking questions like that?
thanks again, you guys!

CanadaGardasil
I decided to get a wavier on it, I am in no way getting this ridiculous shot...I am a a nursing mother and I am not risking my child or self to it, yes I read that it is not known if it passes through milk, well that is more reason to get the wavier than something that isnt known how it effects breastfeeding mothers, breast milk is very iffy cause alot can pass through to the baby and no one person is the same so it is not worth the risk. Also I came across a statistic about it that now convinced me to not get it.

Merck reports that an increase in acute respiratory illnesses (300%) in breastfeeding infants whose mothers received Gardasil within 30 days of breastfeeding.

It may add on time etc.. but I'd rather than get something that could do worse.

Yea I don't know I heard you can file for religious exmeption, but it can delay the process or not get approved at all etc.

I am in the same boat and already posted myself about, I am no way ever going to get the shot if its the last thing I do. It's just another way for Americans to make money off us. I am not going to lower myself to that kind of treatment, a wavier will do.

CanadaWhen are you considered a US resident?????
This is helpful information.....for Ontario you have to be present in Ontario for 153 days within a 12 month period to keep your OHIP coverage and residence status, you got your ties to Canada(eg, Drivers licence etc..) My fiance because he is a Canadian Citizen, has most of his ties there, and lives in the states for up to 7 moths in a year. Best to check with your province wide regulations as it may be different.

CanadaI'm curious about something...
I should mention however that this applies to US born citizens other words natural born citizens in the country, they cannot by law force you too give up your citizenship against your will this also I am assuming also applies to U.S citizens born aboard in Canada to a U.S parent. But yes if you acquire citizenship through naturalization( eg k-1) and are away from the U.S within a period of time than yes you will probablly loose it.
Amanda2020FemaleCanada2009-11-21 20:07:00
CanadaI'm curious about something...
Also as you said Kathyrn that U.S requires to live in the U.S to keep your citizenship is not true, you do not loose your citizenship unless you choose to by acquiring the other one. There are many Canadians that do not even know they hold duel citizenship through birth of one parent in the U.S. U.S recognizes that but they do not so freely encorage people to seek it is all that tells you.

CanadaI'm curious about something...
The U.S does recognize duel citizenship http://travel.state....s/cis_1753.html but they dont encourage it, however with Canada the recogniztion is a bit more linent in terms of holding both as I dont think they have problems within the countries that differ much. http://www.grasmick.com/citizen.htm. I can comment on this first hand, as my fiance holds duel citizenship and numerous family memebers of mine as well. In my fiance's case he was born in U.S and moved to Canada as a child which acquired citizenship through his mom( naturalization through marriage to a Canadian born citizen) he was raised in Canada and has work ties still, he moved to states on his own in 2004 where he he now goes to school and has secondary ties with. However because he is a duel citizen he has the freedom within both countries, he travels with both passports and uses his Canadian for entering within Canada and US and or international, because his ties are mostly linked with Canada and his permanant residence and home is considered Canada his Canadian passport is more stronger than his US citizenship.

CanadaTravelling back to Canada while waiting for NOA2
Hi Guys

I have some updates, I decided to stay in Canada and not go back to Florida on Saturday. My fiance will return for three weeks till Dec 18 when he will return for the holidays and were headed to England to spend x mas with my family there( so excited) but yea its a hard decision I made but its prolly best than going to possibly get denied. When we come back in January hopefully our NOA2 will come as well. It will be hard seperating my daughter and self from him for I am being strong. So thought I'd let you guys know.

Lol yea I know....unless they wanna deal with a hormonic mother they better let me through( if only it helped) yea I understand not everyone has strong ties, that is something we looked into before applying and made sure we had enough proof to link me there. We also have doctor proof with gracie if they need be she's got an appointment on Monday with her peaditrician, I can show them that proof too.

Will be returning to Canada for Christmas holidays. I also have ties with school through correspondense, which I have a letter acquired from the principal of the Adult Learning program that states I am completing it and are to physically be present for exam and handing in material. I am finishing my high school grade 12 university credit that I started in 2007( i know lol) its a self-reliant program you do on your own time and pace, I however acquired approval to be allowed to complete it on my own away from the required hours on site, and to correspond through email and online.

CanadaTravelling back to Canada while waiting for NOA2
Yea I know we got enough proof to show my ties in to Canada, well the seperation issue isnt because of me not being away we were apart for months enough times already were used to it, now we have a baby so we both made that decision to stay together. I know will be seperated for a short time at one point and I am fine with that. And yes you are right it is the most asked question, also there is no legal matter in not being able to visit while waiting for the visa and than also legally I am really allowed up to six months to visit in the states, so they cant say to much on that matter unless they have reason to believe otheriwse that I intend to stay longer or ilegally move. Which I have not given them any reason on that matter, also my Fiance himself is a Canadian Citizen and has most of his ties still in Canada which I dont know if it made a difference or is helping us at the border with entry etc cause he does have the ties himself. If I am however denied entry coming back will be prepared for that step. As many on here in the Visa process there are uncertaintiies and all different experiences along, but my thoughts are that as long as you give no reason to them that you intend to go outside the immigration laws than you should not have many issues.

CanadaTravelling back to Canada while waiting for NOA2
Hello Everyone

Thought I'd give an update on our status. As some may remember I been in Florida with my fiance since August. We are currently in the process for the visa and waiting for NOA2 from Vermont. Tomorrow we are flying out to Canada for a week, it will be the first time flying and encountering customs there we drove here in August and got through with no problems. I am not so nervous about checking in tomorrow as I am going to Canada, but coming back I dont know how they will treat us than. We got the NOA and all identification and what we need ready so we hope it wont cause us any issues. I am sure I established my ties to Canada now that I am going back less than 6 months and will be going home again in Dec for Christmas. Were expecting the approval around January as Vermont times goes.

Thank you so much and congratulations! We are also in Brooklyn right around your timeline, but we had a stupid documentation issue at the interview so now we're stuck waiting for them to reply to our RFE before my husband is scheduled for his oath.

This was very helpful!

What questions did they ask you about your application?

I had my interview at Federal Plaza as well and as I was walking out, I overheard one ISO grilling this woman about her travels. So whatever they asked you will give you an idea what made them unsure.

Did you sign up for Selective Service? I've read posts about interviews going well but got the "USCIS will send you a written decision about your application" because they didn't sign up for it.

Selective Service shouldn't be an issue if the person in question applied for an Illinois state ID or license before they were 26 (if applicable). We started our process in Chicago and the state of Illinois automatically signed up my husband when he applied for his ID after moving to the States. If you can't remember, it's very easy to look up here: https://www.sss.gov/regver/wfverification.aspx

Congratulations Io_!

Whitel, I also received a yellow letter. Mine told me to bring my Driver's licence, marriage certificate (sent them the original already in my application), my passport, and my husband's proof of citizenship (birth certificate/citizenship card).

Come to think about it, in my application I sent them copies of every single document they requested me to bring. Oh well!

Interesting, it looks like the yellow letters differ depending on the application. Ours is asking my husband to bring passports and state-issued IDs (current and expired). We already included copies of his current passport, and the application never asked for a state ID copy.

Thanks everyone! I think we'll just chance it. I think it's very unlikely he'll get an oath scheduled before August 30th based on our timeline. It's only a 4-day trip.

gap1FemaleUnited Kingdom2014-06-19 13:11:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 May 2014 Filers

Did he do the early 90-day filing?  If so, when was the anniversary date of his green card?  I believe they would not allow him to become a citizen prior to that date.

We did the early day filing, but just barely. His GC anniversary is early July. We completely forgot about the trip when we filed, we should have waited just a little bit longer.

His biometrics appointment is 7/2, so I assume it will still take some time to schedule an interview, attend and pass the interview, schedule an oath, etc...before he actually takes the oath. I'm just hoping we won't be in a situation where we have to try to get his passport in 24 hours.

gap1FemaleUnited Kingdom2014-06-19 12:48:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 May 2014 Filers

Hey everyone,
Just had an early walk-in to the Brooklyn uscis center and had my biometrics done. I was scheduled on the 6/26, but due to my work schedule I decided to try my luck today. The officer was very nice and friendly and didn't give me any hard time.

Good to know, my husband has his in the same location!

Does anyone have any thoughts on my earlier post, by chance? We have a trip to Canada at the end of Aug. He hasn't even had his biometrics yet, so I'm almost positive he won't have his oath ceremony before the trip. I think we'll be fine, right? Based on other timelines it looks like the process takes about 3 months.

gap1FemaleUnited Kingdom2014-06-19 10:42:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 May 2014 Filers

I'm updating mine, KJMAZO and Gap1's. Hope I got them right.

Perfect, thank you! Sorry but I have one more update, biometrics letter received for 7/2.

So my husband and I are planning a quick weekend trip to Canada August 30th. There's no chance he's going to have an oath ceremony scheduled before then, right? Based on the timelines I've seen it takes at least three months start-to-finish, and we are only just at the biometrics phase.

I think we'll be ok to travel, as I know the only time he has to worry is if he's trying to leave the country after the oath, but before his passport, which he cannot do. As long as his oath isn't scheduled until after we get back I assume we'll be fine, right? I've read the other threads on this topic and it seems to be the case.
