CanadaOntario OHIP question...
In technical terms yes you loose it but not necessarily. My husband is a duel citizen and he still has OHIP coverage and has used it for years with no problems, but his situation is complicated, also to a job reason, he is still soley considered a Canadian Resident, with the visits within the six month period he does not loose that OHIP. Ontario health care is mostly funded through private enterprises, which means that 75 percent of the serives are delivered privatley by funded publicily. Part of my hubby's income and protection comes from ACTRA, which provides his private insurance and protection through the union. As for me I will probably loose it, I am covered now under my hubby's insurance, but because I am also not a US citizen that could go hand in hand. As for my daughter as well, she is duel, I am not sure if she still has it or not i'd have to look into that, she is fully covered under my hubby's plan.

CanadaChanging name on Canadian Passport!!
I am returning to US in January, I was on AOS when I left in Feb we filed for a emergency advanced parole document, which was approved for me to travel back to canada, we choose to come back for treatment here for me to be near family as we have no family in NY only my aunt. I was diagnosed with a terminal illness in NY back in february which we got the options and choose to come back to toronto for treatment to be near family as we needed full time care for our daughter while I was hospitalized for 6 months. In that time my AOS was approved, my OHIP was approved after filing for my presence while in canada for the duration of my stay I still have an address and home in Canada, my husband has been a dual citizen for over 10 years and his always still had OHIP coverage as long as he was present during that time as he travels back and forth regularly, his job was also established out of Ontario, he was an actor and lived here while filming. I am now returning which yea I will forfeit my coverage.

I am Canadian, I still have health coverage, I live in both Canada and US, coverage goes based on how long you are physically in the country, and that your a citizen, as long as your present for 153 days in a 12 month year you are still eligable.

CanadaChanging name on Canadian Passport!!
Hello

Okay so I am in the process of changing my marriage name on my Canadian documents, currently my Passport with my K1 visa is still in my maiden name. I got my 10 year Green Card finally it was approved back in march after being denied last May due to some issues caused by a family member on my part. I been back in canada since Feb due to illness which I got permission to travel back for medical treatment, which is when in the process my green card was also approved after a full investigation and stokes interview. What is the process like for getting your name changed on passport? Do i apply directly to the counsalte here? or do I apply for a new passport as Passport Canada states to change yoi name you need to fill out a whole new application?

CanadaReturning to US on Green Card!!
Hello
So today is my first time returning to US since receiving my green card in April. We are flying into JFK from Heathrow airport having been here over the holidays. Checking in was smooth, which was nice to finally not have to worry about all the questioning, I am almost starting to feel like a US citizen. I hope everyone had a good holiday and a happy new year wherever your travels take you.

From what I gather, you only need to provide passport photos if you are overseas pursuant to military commitment, or government orders.

Hi VJ! I have a question and I hope that you will answer me :-(.My story is that me and my husband fight more often and he does beat me up and i did file a police report because it just didn't happened once.My family and friends told me to leave him but i just can't because i truly love him and i really wanna work our marriage. So now I'm just wondering if it will affect our filing of Removing condition?

It is sad how you report the fact that your husband beats you up in such a "matter of fact" way. Anyway, this is not the place for me to comment on that. The police report may have an effect - it really depends on the circumstances. The main thing is to be as honest and up-front as possible. If this was a relatively "minor" incident that did not involve any "moral turpitude" it may not be a problem.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAddress Stress - please help!
I just spoke to a USCIS rep - apparently when you file an AR11, it only fulfils your legal requirement to file. If you have any paperwork / matters pending with USCIS, they are not updated. As I changed my address after I received my Green card (2yr), the docs they had pertaining to that Green Card maintained the old address. He told me to file my I-751, stating my new address.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAddress Stress - please help!
Okay, here's what I did. In the cover letter accompanying the evidence, I stated that I had changed my address online when I moved to my new address, in the requisite 10 day period. I added that as the recent letter from USCIS was addressed to my previous residence, I had therefore re-submitted the change of address online. I quoted the new reference number.

Hopefully this will suffice. I'm not going to stress about it.

Did you get an NOA for both change of addresses? One for the AR-11 and the other for the I-865 (sponsor)? If so, that's all you need to prove that you changed it with the USCIS. The instructions say to keep copies of both forms when you filed, the NOAs and the I-865 has very specific mailing instructions so you can have prove that you sent it and they received it.

If you have all of that, then there's nothing to worry about.

Diana

That's the problem. The confirmation sheet was in my office, however when I lost my job I must have left it there. So it seems that I have no proof that I filed for a change of address. When I send my documentation for my removal of conditions, it will show that I have lived at this address since June 2008.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAddress Stress - please help!
Hi - I changed my address online with USCIS back in June 2008. Now it is time for me to apply to remove the conditions on my permanent resident card, as it will have been two years since I first received it. However, I recently received a standard letter from USCIS, reminding me to do this, but it was sent to my previous address! It would appear that they have not changed my records. I have filed the change of address online again today, and I want to call USCS to check that they have the correct info. The problem is, I cannot get through on the phone. Is there anything more I should be doing? When I send in my I-751, I don't want them to think that I failed to report my change of address on time.

Thanks!!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionQuestion about Address?
A similar thing happened to me. I received my I-751 reminder at my old address. I simply refiled my change of address online, and provided a brief explanation in the cover letter for my I-751. All subsequent correspondence was sent to my new address.

Just make sure you update online and you should be fine.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionSending further evidence after submitting I-751
Hi - I submitted my I-751 in February, but since then I came across some additional documentation to support my application - I sent it to the Vermont Service Center, with a cover letter asking them to add it to the package.

Has anyone else done this? Do you think the documents will be filed as requested?

Shouldn't be. I sent mine in several months after we moved.

We are in the same boat, prepping for removal of conditions. Just print it out and mail it in. You'll get a acknowdgement in the mail.

Thank you...I will do that but there won't be enough time since my husbands green card expires 6/4/2009...What will that do if they don't see that I as the USC didn't change my address..I am just scared now that something will go wrong. We did everything right every step of the way until this...:-)

File your change of address online. Then, in the cover letter accompanying your I-751 package, state your current address to ensure that all future correspondence goes to this location. There should be no problem.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionExpired green card / NOA - what to keep in wallet!
I have filed for removal of conditions, and my green card expires this week. I know that we are required by law to keep our green card on us at all times, but once it expires, should I perhaps keep a copy of the NOA in my wallet also?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionEvidence
I have not heard of the requirement to send the entire statement to USCIS! They are looking at the fact that you share an address and financial responsibilities; they are not looking to examine your spending habits. I made sure I sent statements spreading over the past two years, and highlighted the date on each one.

I agree with the above posters - whatever his political affiliations, he is entitled the same assistance and encouragement as anyone else. That is the basis of a democratic society.

It seems that the online system for providing updates has not been functioning 100%; for example, many people have received green cards with no updates since the initial I-751 was received. I see that you had your biometrics done in March. If I were you, I would not worry, but would call USCIS, and if they cannot help you, book an Infopass appointment.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionDriver's License
Hi, the other day I took a trip to the DMV in Manhattan, in order to change my driver's license from NJ to NY. After standing in line, I spoke to the man who was initially assessing paperwork (he seemed to have a distinct Napolean Complex) who said, "no, no, no, this green card is expired, we can't accept it." I pointed out that the NOA1 gave a one-year extension, but he stuck to his guns and I spoke to a supervisor.

The supervisor said that the NOA1 IS acceptable proof, but as my NJ license (applied for with my 2 year GC) stated in red "temporary immigration status", he could not accept it, and I could either start from square one in NY (no way) or go to NJ and ask them to remove that proviso, which was apparently made in error. I remember at the time I initially applied in NJ they told me that I could only do so with a 10-year GC.

SO...

-The NOA1, with the expored 2 yr GC IS accepted in Manhattan for the purposes of obtaining a driver's license.
-Does anyone else have the "temporary" status on their driver's license? Any problems as a result? I am pretty annoyed that I have to go BACK to NJ, and I certainly hope I am not told the same thing I was previously.

You should shortly receive a letter extending your permanent resident status for a further 12 months, pending approval of your I-751 application. This is referred to on these forums as the NOA1.
