They have your documents, that's the main thing. In any event, the email update system has been unreliable, to say the least. It was not until three months after biometrics that I was approved. I do not think that your case is overdue.

Call the info line or book an infopass if you are anxious, just for your own peace of mind.

I have a theory on why people are receiving the approval letter, then the approval email a week or so later.

I think that when USCIS approved our cases, for some reason that was not registered on the online system. Then, when card production is ordered, our case is touched again, only for the email update system to be one step behind and registering that as simply an approval, rather than card production.

I received the approval email this morning (July 2), saying that on July 1 they mailed me a notice that they had approved the petition to remove conditions. The mailed notice that I received last week, however, was dated June 22. I can only guess that they are in the process of updating their system!

If it helps, these are the documents I submitted as proof of our ongoing relationship:

Cell Phone bills
Copy of medical insurance card
Emails referring to us both
Healthcare coverage letter
Holiday greeting card
Letter from payroll co. referring to healthcare coverage
One Photograph (from Facebook, showing the date - !)
Bank Statements
Letter from Internal Revenue Service

After I had sent this out, I obtained our tax return from the IRS, and found an electricity bill addressed to us both. I sent these documents together with a copy of the NOA1.

I did not send notarized letters from friends / family, but I made sure the documents spanned the length of our marriage.

The approval was sent from our local office in NYC. No email updates, no touches since biometrics.

I checked my mailbox today, tore open the letter, and;

"Congratulations! Your request for the removal of the conditional basis of your permanent resident status has been approved. You are deemed to be a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States as of the date of your original admission or adjustment of status."

Seems like VSC is moving along quickly now with February filers. Now to wait for the green card!

Found a non-descript envelope in my mailbox, saw St. Albans, VT as the return address, and opened it to find my 10-year permanent resident card!

As a side-note, my 2-year card had a typo (one letter) in my middle name. I did not get this changed at the time, as I heard stories of people spending months waiting to finally receive the corrected card. I mentioned the error on my I-751 cover letter. The card I received today is correct.

As for things I have learned from this whole process...

  • Have patience. The USCIS is notoriously unpredictable, and some people wait longer than others at every stage of the process. Just because your application is taking a long time, this does not mean bad news.
  • BE HONEST. I received a police caution for getting involved in a physical confrontation at college, nine years ago. I disclosed this in full at every stage of the immigration process. It caused me no problems. Obviously, every situation is different.
  • Notify USCIS immediately if you change address. I hear so many stories about letters going missing. Do it online, for speed. PRINT the receipt!!
  • Don't spend your time worrying. I admit, in the last few weeks, I have been somewhat obsessive with checking the mail. Relax, enjoy yourself in this great country, and if you have no major issues, the process should be a breeze.
Next step, naturalization!

I received a letter stating that my I-751 petition had been received. A week later, I received an email stating that USCIS had mailed me a letter approving my petition. A week after the email, I received the 10-yr green card. You should receive yours within the next week, if recent patterns are anything to go by. The order of notifications has in recent months been very unpredictable.

Our apartment is solely in my name. I submitted bank statements for every three months spanning the two years, from our joint checking account, a tax return, correspondence from the IRS, one photo, two emails, a greeting card sent to both of us, cellphone bills and an electricity bill.

Simply make sure that you have evidence that shows sharing of finances or assets. There is no single item that is mandatory (people seem to think that affidavits are so important) but USCIS looks at it all collectively.

So I got an envelope from USCIS today. I got all excited thinking 'yes! I don't have to worry about the expiry date.'
What was it?......my application!!!
They sent it back because of one stupid little mistake. Now I'm kicking myself hard for overlooking something so important.
But I've scheduled an infopass apt. for Monday so hopefully I can get my status cleared up.
