K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisit before I-129f Approval
I received my NOA1 on 2/1 and I am visiting my fiance in London next weekend. I thought it may be useful to bring with me any documents I will need to fill out after the NOA2 is received to save the time and money from sending documents overseas. I am planning on bringing over a copy of the I-129f packet I sent to immigration, the affidavit of financial support and a letter reaffirming our intent to marry. Is there anything else I am missing? Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 Dates
So my NOA1 was back in early February and I visited my fiance in mid May and I gave her a new letter of intent to marry and the i-134 with all supporting documents. The problem is that we didn't get our NOA2 until the end of July. I was planning on just emailing her a pdfs of my last few pay statements to update the i-134 supporting documentation. Does anyone think I need to send her another i-134 and letter of intent dated nearer to the current date or am I probably ok. Thank you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS230 social security number
My fiancé worked in the US on a work study program a few years ago when we met and was issued a social security number at the time since she was paid. The DS-230 form asks for a social security number. Does she need to contact her previous employer to get or or can she just write N/A since she is now back in the UK? Thanks!

a supervisor from VSC told my congressman that the officer working on my case was reassigned to other cases. Maybe that has something to do with the delay.

H0w do i get to talk to a supervisor or congressman about my case?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan they ask for RFE at the 5th month ?????
So who can we talk to when we call USCIS to see if they have taken another look at our application? I hate not knowing anything at all for such a long period of time. We should be able to demand more information?!!

You certainly can. They haven't looked at your file yet if you have neither an approval or an RFE. It is not like they work and work and pass it around to committees. ONE person does the adjudication, it takes about 20 minutes. If there is a problem or a question, they may kick it up to a supervisor, but otherwise it gets reviewed in a few minutes time and then tossed into either the RFE or the approved pile. A clean backgroud check, for example takes about 30 seconds. If there is a problem it will get sent for a manual check, and you will see a "touch" (never figured out why people think a "touch" is a good thing) a clean petition never gets a "touch" once assigned unless it gets reassigned for some reason. It sits in a pile until it is reviewed and then approved or gets an RFE
You have exactly the same chance of an RFE at 5 months as you do at 5 weeks. If the information and documents you provided are adequate then your chances of an RFE are -0- (barring mistakes, they do occasionally make mistakes)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMajor Roadblock or Just a Bump

My fiancee just received her packet 3 from the embassy in Tokyo. The want a CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage) sent from the Philippines along with her birth certificate. The problem is that she was married in the Phil. to a Japanese man and then divorced him in Japan so she does not qualify for a CENOMAR. As I understand it she is free to marry in Japan, the US and anywhere except for the Phil.

Is CENOMAR a firm requirement? If so, I don't know why.

We talked about getting an annulment before going into this process. It is slow and expensive. Most importantly, we didn't know it was required.

One option I've seen while browsing thru the web is to file for Recognition of a Foreign Divorce in the Phil.

Needless to say we are both very upset about another hurdle and another delay - we were so close!

Any advice?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureslost certificate of naturalization - applying for k1
I am applying for k1 visa but lost my certificate of naturalization. The I-134 asks for certificate number. Is there any other option - the replacement costs $345. I also do not remember if I used my complete birth name or just my father's last name as is the custom in the US. Thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures2nd k1
I applied and received k1 visa for my than fiance in 2008 in Colombia - he received visa in 2/2009 and did not come to USA until the last day, 8/2009. In the time of my applying for visas for him and his son and his coming to USA I found out he had been living with a woman in Colombia. I did not let this stop me and I married him 9/2009 in NYC :bonk: . I was going to visit my elderly and sick father 10/2009 and he wanted to return to Colombia. I returned with him and his son (who had also gotten a visa) on 10/2009. They remained in Colombia and I returned to USA.

The person who found out he had a partner in Colombia is my cousin, and he is the person I am currently in love with (L) . I divorced this man in March 2011 and applied for k1 visa for my current love in 7/2011. In 12/2011 I received request for evidence and I submitted all information I could find by 1/20/2012. USCIS acknowledged having received my papers and the standard response is to wait for maximum 60 days - this will take my waiting time into March 19 or 20th.

Anyone with previous experience like mine? I am attempting to plan my life. I love this man, he allowed me to believe in love again - he has made my life a paradise full of hope.

Recommendations welcomed and gladly accepted.

Thank you. :help:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List

I don't know if you got your question answered, but I got an RFE for the same reason. On my RFE letter, it said, "The following DOES NOT constitute evidence of meeting: discs, videos, emails, letters, phone bills and greeting cards."

It also said that, "Primary evidence may include airline ticket stubs and receipts (that indicate month, day and year), copies of passport pages that show the identification page and admission stamps, military order(s), letter from Commanding Officer, or any evidence that will help the USCIS to determine that the petitioner has met the beneficiary within the two years. Secondary evidence may include film-dated photographs of the petitioner and beneficiary together."

I don't have film-dated photos, as they are digital and don't really do dates like they used to as the date on the back is the date of printing. I don't have boarding passes as I tossed those, not knowing I'd need them. I originally sent photos with dates written on them and airline itineraries. That apparently wasn't enough. For the RFE, I sent in the passport pages showing my entry into his country (Ireland) and my ID page. The letter specifically asked for this item. The letter was very specific in what they wanted from me. See my profile for the direct quote from the RFE letter..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List
I just received notice that additional evidence was needed to process my petition. The request is for evidence that my fiance and I have met over the past two years. I have flown to Colombia to see him several times in 2009, 2010 and 2011 - I do not have letters written to each other after the meeting, referencing specific dates and place - We are on msn messenger, yahoo messenger and now blackberry messenger all the time. Unfortunately the emails we have are few and they were usually sent after we had some type of problem. I sent in copies of my passport with his k1 application which showed entries to US. I sent pictures from his Facebook account were we appear together. How about the sworn statements they say are allowed?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I just registered because I'm just starting the K-1 process. I don't know how common this question is so I'm sorry if it's been asked a million times. My fiance lives and works in Thailand, but she is from the Philippines. Will she be able to interview at the embassy in Thailand or will she need to return to her home country to complete the proccess?

Thanks.

If she is Filipino citizen, then she needs to return here in Philippines to process your visa.Advise her to get police certificate before she leave in Thailand.

Don't open the packet that says "DO NOT OPEN" when your Visa Arrives:

taken from a post I just made to a member, Sue me I'm lazy but you all get the idea :)

Congratz!!!

But I wish to give you advice that you may or not know, when the visa arrives and your excitement is at its peak please remember there is a packet that says "DO NOT OPEN" this is meant for customs at your POE and if you happen to open it "YOU MUST" return to manilla us Embassy and visit Immigrant Visa services Window 17 between the hours of 1:00pm and 3:30pm Monday through Friday. you will not need an appointment nor is there a fee for this but It can be avoided just with a little warning. I am typing this as my Betrothed sits in NAIA waiting on her flight back to Dumaguete and figured I would try and educate those who do not know about this packet and remedying the unintentional opening.

Safe Journeys and Blessings,

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting Fiance in US!
Jingo thank you for your info. All of the information I've found on this site has been most helpful. Thank you all for sharing your experiences.

I have a question about my fiance coming to visit for the summer. He is Canadian and I'm from the US. We have just started the process & submitted our I-129F for the K-1. His birthday is at the end of May and for his birthday I got Red Hot Chili Pepper's tickets to the Detroit show cause he lives near the Canadian/Michigan border and we had decided to do a fun roadtrip and make a vacation out of it. His new job allows him work remotely & we would like him to come visit me in NYC over the summer (no more than 90 days). I know he must show ties to Canada and we are prepared to do this. My question is that I was going to drive over to get him and us go across the border together to go to the concert and then drive back to NYC. Has anyone ever crossed the border with their fiance and does anyone have any opinions as to whether this could make it more likely for him to be denied at the border?

We will have the following documents for his ties:
Return flight on porter in August
Hotel in Detroit
NOA1
letter from employers (2 freelance projects)
Mandatory prescription renewal
Phone bill & mail from address
I-129F application info (no whole pack)
Bank Statement of Sufficient funds for the time period

Thanks in advance!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Visa questions regarding age.

Hi, just wanted to mention that the age difference will not really matter, you just have to prove that the relationship is bona fide.  My now husband is 12 yrs younger than me and they didn't give us a problem when we did the K-1 visa.  So don't psych yourself out about the age difference.  The only thing they asked about the age difference was if our families knew about the age difference.

Good Luck.

PS.  My husband is Canadian and we have now been married over 1year.

I'm working on my G-325A and they only allow a small space in the employment history section to put your employer's name and address. I was thinking of attaching a page with the full information since I can't fit it. I am going to write my employer's name then say "see attachment" in the spaces. Do you think this will be ok?

Just checked the website, and our application is under "initial review" status. Yeah my fiance is visiting me from the UK in October as well (popular month!). I spoke with another VJ member (French) who just visited her fiance here without issue, she said they didn't even ask specifics. That said, I heard it all depends on the officer. It's so frustrating, I can't imagine how awful it would be if they denied him. He's bringing a bunch of documentation just in case, but I'm really hoping he doesn't have issues. If he doesn't get in not only is it a waste of time and money on his part, but I won't see him until Jan. :(

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAoS Questions
No, the proof of support isn't required for the initial I-129F petition (at least that's what I was told and it wasn't on any of the checklists). It isn't required until we get our NoA2. We haven't gotten that yet. I know we can have a co-sponsor but I'd rather not have to do that as it would just take more time. Has anyone else been asked about their credit history?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAoS Questions
We are still in the early stages of this process, but I want to be as prepared as possible when the time comes for my fiance's interview. I have pretty bad credit (student loan delinquency). I've been told they don't do credit checks, and they're mainly concerned that I receive a regular paycheck. I make around 45k a year and work full time, have been at my job over 3 years (no dependants or children). Is it true I just need to provide tax returns over the last 2 years, a letter from my employer and bank statements? My fiance has quite a bit of savings from an inheritance and can provide bank statements as well. Do you think we'll be ok? I am always denied for things that require a credit check so I get really bad anxiety when anyone is basing a decision on my finances. While I'm sure I'll be fine in this case, I can't stop worrying they'll deny me based on my debt problems.
