Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussioncover letter is it enough to much?

We didn't sent one, Just the documention showing joint relationship and living as husband and wife. House with both our names and also having each other on our life insurance policy from work.

That's good! Anyone else?

I'd really hate to involve other people in our immigration business. So far I have:
  • 3 years of joint tax returns
  • 3 years of bank statements showing our direct deposits and checks
  • joint apartment lease (the original contract and one renewal)
  • health insurance policy (my wife's enrolled as a dependent on my policy)
  • car insurance (in both our names)
  • joint utility bills (gas and electric) from ConEdison - 2 years
  • photocopies of our driving licenses showing our address
  • insurance policy with my wife as the beneficiary
  • 401(k) papers with my wife as the beneficiary
  • probably a couple of other things I forgot
Do you think it's good enough?

IMHO affidavits are useful/necessary if not enough documentation is available.
It seems that starletth has a comprehensive list, but of course each case is unique.

But my reading of it is that they are required, not just useful.

Can anyone confirm or deny it?

Do you think the affidavits are necessary? The USCIS explicitly ask for TWO affidavits:
  • Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted and have personal knowledge of your marriage and relationship. (Such persons may be required to testify before an immigration officer as to the information contained in the affidavit.) The original affidavit must be submitted and also contain the following information regarding the person making the affidavit: his or her full name and address; date and place of birth; relationship to you or your spouse, if any; and full information and complete details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge. Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above.

star_smile.gif Congratulations, Mawilson for getting your 10yr Green Card!!! star_smile.gif

After such a long 11 months wait, you deserve it! It's good to know that the VSC is doing something, even if it takes a long long time. Too bad though, you couldn't get a refund for the I-751, as you only have the 10yr card for a short time now.

Oh well, onto the next stage of citizenship for you, Mawilson!

Good luck too on your Citizenship application and the rest of your immigration journey!

yeah I just looked at changing my £'s to bring over dont think I'll bother now, might risk it and leave a week or two see what happens....

What happens is the British pound has broken 3 key support levels - 1.45, 1.40 and 1.3865, the June 2001 low.

The next support level is $1.365, and then its $1.00, I'm afraid...

As of right now, 1 GBP = 1.3680/84 USD.

Just a little update here. I'm sure you'll all be delighted to know that today, the post office will give you the princely sum of $1.33 for your pound.

Great stuff.

What can I tell you. Seems like it's going lower - the best you can do right now is hedge
your life in the forex market.

If you think the value of the British pound is going to continue to decline and are worried
about the value of your savings deteriorating against the US dollar, you can hedge your
savings account by going short the GBP/USD. If you have $240,000 in savings, you can
sell short 2 regular contracts and 4 mini-contracts and have a perfect hedge.

I don't mean to be impolite, but ..... sterling is still worth MORE than the dollar. You can still bring your money over here and it's worth more than over there.

I don't think it is, on spending power it is worth less.

The parity spending power is around $1.60, ie £1 in the UK buys what $1.60 would in the US. If you get an exchange rate less than that you are in effect losing money.

Parity spending power? Where does that figure come from? Wouldn't that be something 'relative' such as what Robin talks about in her post just above hers? And would it also not be a figure that would adjust itself based upon world conditions?

May I suggest that you look at A Beginner's Guide to Purchasing Power Parity Theory http://economics.abo...hasingpower.htm

The figure generally accepted as the parity rate between the pound and the dollar is $1.56 to $1.60 to £1

The Purchasing Power Parity index is definitely a very interesting indicator.
If you look at this chart

it becomes clear that the pound was *ridiculously* overvalued at $2.10, and now maybe
is slightly cheap against the dollar.

Note that it's still about 8 percent above $1.365, its lowest level since 1992 when sterling
left the European exchange rate mechanism. There is a good chance that it could come
to a halt above the $1.365 low, but if it doesn't... all bets are off.

I am no expert on this but talking to my financial director today when he told us all we are now to work on a rate of $1.50 he thinks that it was unlikely that we would see the $2 rate again or for a very long time, he said that rate was inflated that is why we never worked on higher than $1.72, he thinks it will go up again but looking long term at $1.60

Actually, the trend is still strongly bearish, so if anything, it'll probably go DOWN further,
possibly to $1.40 or even lower.

United KingdomUK - US could it be divorce ?

I am proud of BP as a very highly rated international company who have drilled 30,000 wells with no spills

Are you kidding?

BP has the worst environmental track record in history!

1) March 2005 - a massive explosion at BP's refinery in Texas City killed 15 workers and injured 170 others. Investigators later determined that BP had ignored its own protocols on operating the tower, which was filled with gasoline, and that a warning system had been disabled. The company pleaded guilty to federal felony charges and was fined more than $50 million by the US Environmental Protection Agency.

2) 2006 - technicians discovered that some 4,800 barrels of oil had spread into the Alaskan snow through a tiny hole in BP's pipeline in Prudhoe Bay. BP had been warned to check the pipeline in 2002, but hadn't. When it did inspect it, four years later, it found that a six-mile length of pipeline was corroded. BP faced $12 million in fines for a misdemeanor violation of the federal Water Pollution Control Act.

3) There were more spills in Alaska.

4) In 2007, the EPA, under the Bush administration, said it was powerless to stop BP from dumping toxic waste into Lake Michigan from its expanded refinery that was processing increased amounts of heavy crude oil from Canada.

5) BP was charged with manipulating the market price of propane. In that case, it settled with the US Department of Justice and agreed to pay more than $300 million in fines.

6) Between June 2007 and February 2010, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) checked 55 oil refineries operating in the U.S. Two were owned by BP, and those racked up 760 citations for "egregiously willful" safety violations - defined as committed with plain indifference to or intentional disregard for employee safety and health. The other 53 refineries - put together - only received one such violation.

Sorry, but BP got what was coming to them.

Yes, I heard about this a few months ago. The last discussion I had with someone over there resulted in this: Does all debt have to be paid off in full prior to departure? "No, only if there is a court order or it is in current litigation." So, if a Russian citizen has an outstanding balance on a loan or credit card and is in compliance with the payment schedule they can freely leave the country? "Yes".
I've got to say this law will still benefit the ladies trying to scam the Westerns! Here is how I'd do it:
Ask for money in order to pay off debts in order ot apply for a Russian passport to start the K1 process. Money arrives, no debt exists, then dump the sucker.

Or you could just say "Pack your stuff and get ready to go, I'm coming to get you. I'll take care of your debt myself before we leave."

A good root that hasn't been mentioned yet is "ebat'"... With different prefixes you can express everything from forgetting your keys to totally beating someone up to a way to answer kak dela.

My understanding is that prefixes in Russian and other Slavic languages are not unlike
phrasal verbs in English.

For example,

"go" = hodit (Russian), chodzi? (Polish)
"go around" = obhodit (Russian), obchodzi? (Polish)
"go across" = perehodit (Russian), przechodzi? (Polish)
"go through" = prohodit (Russian), przechodzi? (Polish)
"go/come in (?)" = prihodit (Russian), przychodzi? (Polish)

ob- = round/circum-, stoyat = stand
ob-stoyat-elstvo -> circum-stance

"pizdoon" = someone who talks too much (or lies repeatedly)
