K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhere do I send Packet 3.5?
Thank you for your response,

Do we send it TO the courier listed on the Islamabad website, or does she needs to travel to the courier location and send it there. What address did you send your packet to?

I hope someone else will come along to help answer your question but we always used the approved courier services on the embassy website to send documents to the embassy. The documents took 1 day to get there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhere do I send Packet 3.5?
Hello All!

My name is Umair, and my fiance lives in Pakistan. Our k1 application was approved by NVC over a month ago, but my fiance hasn't received packet 3.5 from the Islamabad Embassy. I called the embassy, and they stated that we can send our documents to the embassy since we have all of the necessary documents gathered (police certificate, DS forms, etc).

My question is simple: WHERE does my fiance have to mail her documents so that she can be scheduled an interview? I dont see an address listed anywhere on the internet regarding this. I'm looking at the courier services section on Islamabad Embassy website, http://islamabad.use...r_services.html, however none of the places I called seemed to have an answer for me.

I'm reaching out to all of you. My fiance lives in Pakistan, and she needs to mail her packet 3.5 to the Embassy. What address should she be mailing to? Thank you in advance for all of your support!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa APPROVED!
Thanks all!

You know what's surprising? The CO didn't ask her for the Affidavit of Support (I-134). All she did was sign the DS 156, and that's it. No I-134, no letter of intent, nothing, nada, zip.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa APPROVED!
Our K1 visa was approved! YAY! Just have to wait for the passport and visa! Here is our account below. I've reposted this story after confirming all information with my fiance:

I am retelling my fiancé’s experience at the Islamabad Embassy from November 17, 2011  :

Experience at embassy was quick and easy. My fiancé arrived at the embassy around 7 am, and took the embassy bus for 500 rupees to where she would be giving her interview. After getting off the bus, she went through scanning. She showed all of her documentation and interview letter, and was asked to wait until called.

After about 30 minutes, my fiancé was brought in to do her fingerprints. During the fingerprinting, she had a general conversation with a black female working there. After my fiancé completed her fingerprinting, she was asked to sit once more, and wait for further instruction.

After another 30 minutes, my fiancé was asked to approach window #6, where she gave the medical report to a Pakistani woman sitting on the other side of the window. She were very nice and asked her to sign the DS 156 form as well as write out my (the petitioner) name, and confirmed my fiancés phone number and gave her a token which she has to show to the American express for getting the visa and passport within a few days. Then she moved to the window #5 to pay the interview fee of $350 and waited for another half hour. Then my fiancé asked to go to the window #8 to be interviewed by a male CO. She asked to have the interview in Urdu. However, the interviewer wasn't very fluent in Urdu, and my fiancé actually chuckled when he began talking. My fiancé then asked him to continue the questions in English, and here were some of the questions asked.

1. What is your fiancé’s job?
(Program Coordinator with a non-profit organization called buildOn)

2. Can you explain his job further?
(He works with students, inspiring them to engage in community service :wow: )

3. What the name of the college of your fiancé?
(Brooklyn College)

4. How you people communicate?
(Through Magic jack, gmail chat, phone calls, sometimes skype and text messaging... I have all the proofs of call history as well... ), but the CO didn’t ask for any proof.

5. Have you ever been to the US?
(No, I've never been outside of Pakistan)

6. When are you planning on getting married?
(InshaALLAH December or January)

7. Have you ever been arrested?
( No, NEVER!)

8. Have you ever been inside a courthouse?
(No)

9. How long have you been living at your current address?
(All my life)

10. Is this an arranged marriage?
Yes, our grand parents have arranged this when we were children.

11. Have you any relatives in US?
(No)

12. When did you last speak with your fiancé?
(Right before entering into the embassy)

Throughout the entire process, the male CO was typing away at his computer. Finally, the male CO said, "You will be getting a call within two weeks from the American Express office in Lahore to come pick up your passport with the visa inside it. Thank you very much and Good Luck... :) "

My fiancé went into the embassy around 7am. She exited the embassy by 10am. She spent roughly 3 hours in the embassy. Her experience was great, and we both feel relieved!
Thanks to ALLAH for all the Blessings... :D :D :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApproved? But now under Administrative Processing? FRUSTRATED UGH
Thanks for all the replies folks. What other papers were asked for after the interview? My fiance had all of her papers in order, including signatures and everything. Her interview was extremely quick - the CO didn't even ask her for photo proofs or anything - just simple and straightforward questions. She wasn't even asked any questions related to finances. I tried emailing the embassy, but apparently they have a challenging time responding to emails...especially when my question is less than 10 words and enlarged so its easy and QUICK to read.

I'm still pissed off. Is it even worth calling the embassy? That is if they even pick up...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApproved? But now under Administrative Processing? FRUSTRATED UGH
Hello All,

My fiance had a K1 visa interview at the Islamabad Embassy on November 17. I had made a topic a day after sharing with everyone that she was approved. She was told by the interviewer that she was approved, and should be expecting her passport and visa in 2 weeks. The interviewer took her passport and visa, and gave her a purple colored token, along with the address of the American Express office where she will be receiving her package.

I called the Department of State today just to check on the status of everything, and I was told that my fiance's visa has not been issued yet, and that our case is under administrative review...Why would I be told this if my fiance was told she was approved? The interviewer had told her she would be getting a call within 2 weeks to pick up her visa! So what kind of bull**** is this? What is going on? Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm completely frustrated with this new information, and I just don't know what the next steps are....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting to get married
Thanks for the reply - when i said religious ceremony, i meant that a rabbi who can legally marry us in the state of new york will perform the ceremony. It would still be legal for new york state.

It sounds like we can wait until then and just have all the paperwork ready to go the day after the wedding!

Does anyone have any recommendations for health insurance for my fiance in the meantime?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting to get married
Hi all
Hoping you can clear up for us some confusion about by when we have to get married. Our K-1 is valid until Oct. 30th.
Our religious ceremony is scheduled for Oct 4th.

Our families would be very upset if we got married before, but we've seen posts saying that you can't really wait that long because of the AOS paperwork.

As long as we send the AOS before oct. 30th, will we still be "in status" or is it that we have to have received the EAD before the 30th of October if we want to be in status.

thanks in advance,
sara & ludo

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravel on Visa Waiver while waiting for K-1?
All very helpful advice! Thanks to everyone who posted. We are hoping for a visit in Feb/March if we haven't received NOA2 by then. I'll just tell him to act like a tourist when he gets to the airport :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravel on Visa Waiver while waiting for K-1?
My fiancee is from the UK and visited the USA this summer on a visa waiver, for about 2 months. During this period, we got engaged, and then he left to go back home while we waited for the New Year to hit and for his visitor visa to subsequently renew. Meanwhile, we had filed for the K-1 Visa using form I129F and received our NOA1 on Nov 17, 2010. It has now been two months since he left and we haven't heard anything, so we are looking to plan a trip for him to come out and visit me while we wait.

Our question is: Can he still travel on the visa waiver program as a visitor while we are waiting for K-1 approval?

I have heard conflicting opinions on this and I don't want to fly him out if he is only going to be turned away at the immigration desk. For all intents and purposes, he would be coming as a visitor, with a job and home still in the UK, and with a return flight already purchased so they shouldn't have any reason to think he is trying to stay. I'm just concerned that when they scan his passport at the arrivals desk at the airport, they would be notified of his pending K-1 application and deny him entry. Does anyone know what the best way around this is? I find it extremely unfair and frustrating that we have to wait upwards of 5-8 months to get the K-1 processed in the FIRST place, let alone be told we can't even visit each other while the application is pending.

Help please...

Ms. Hoeskizalez

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat happens with the work permit between K1 and AOS?
Thanks everyone! I can support him and I will -- we did choose this path and we'll get through this! We will probably marry as soon as he arrives on the K-1 so that we can move the process along and really start our lives together. I'm concerned that he is going to be bored out of his mind for months while he waits for authorization, but I suppose he can take up a hobby or something (an inexpensive one, necessarily... I can't help but roll my eyes at this whole thing). Plus, even the most secure guy can feel emasculated by having to be completely dependent on his girlfriend, so I expect it will be frustrating for him. :/

Gotta say though, I'm suspicious that these K1 work rules were set up by the government years ago with the assumption that it would be a man (US citizen) bringing a foreign woman over to marry her and therefore the expectation would already be that he would support her and she would stay home (or whatever). Just doesn't seem practical anymore. Or fair, for that matter.

Gotta power through it. Sigh.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat happens with the work permit between K1 and AOS?
Ugh, thanks, but not what I was hoping to hear. It baffles me how they expect someone to a) sit around for three months twiddling their thumbs while waiting, and b) SURVIVE for that period with no legal way of obtaining income. Since the foreign fiancee is not allowed to leave the country after the marriage until the AOS and everything goes through, this means that even if my fiancee flew over to marry me without quitting his current job in the UK, he wouldn't be able to fly back and continue working in the UK while we wait for the EAD and AOS to go through. This sounds impossibly stupid! This is FORCED UNEMPLOYMENT and is sure to cause stress among couples both financially and mentally while one person is made to go 3 months without work. How does this help anyone??? Is there really no way for him to do this without being out of the job for 25% of the year? :(

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat happens with the work permit between K1 and AOS?
Hi Guys,

My fiancee is currently awaiting his interview date and we are hoping he will be entering the US on a K1 Visa very soon, but I am concerned about the work permit situation. I understand he will be able to pick up a temporary (90 day) work permit at the airport upon his arrival, and that he will need to reapply for another work permit once we are married and filing AOS. My question is this: what happens in between the two work permits? Will he be forced to stop working while the government is processing the AOS, or is he allowed to keep whatever job he has until the AOS issues him a new permit? It doesn't seem fair that he would have to cease working for up to 5+ weeks while we wait for the AOS... can someone please clarify how this works?

Thanks,

B

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRunning Out of Time... Awaiting k1-Visa Approval

Hi VJ members,

Just want to decrease my anxiety level by relating to someone who's had a similar experience as us. My k1 petition has actually been processed without any impediments untill the actual interview done in December 2011. My fiance was not granted a visa on spot, but was told that they will be in contact with me because they needed more "evidence to substantiate our relationship." In other words they have reason to believe that our relationship might be FAKE. This was a big blow to myself and my fiance, because we thought all was well and we had already started planning our wedding.I was devastated when I got the terrible news from my fiance. I have e-mailed the consulate on several occasion but to no avail, I have yet to hear of a visa approval. Last time I checked the Vermont Service Center, they did not receive the petition from the Jamaican Embassy. :( :(

:help: :help: :help:

Thanks for the advice, however all of the required evidence were submitted with original k1 petition and @ the interview.....pictures, boarding passes, mail correspondence, receipts, etc... As stated previously the Jamaican Embassy claimed that all the documents will be returned to the dept. of USCIS then I will be contacted by them when they are received... I guess now this another long wait...... :crying:

When did you file? I filed in mid-October. I have called the USCIS and they are kind but unable to help. A few people have told me to hold tight because the times change drastically but it is hard to be hopefully when your waiting period doubles. whistling.gif Good Luck. Thank you for the response. The timeline does seem ridiculous. What is DCF? I will look into both options.

Your estimation for approval seems a bit off. First rule of thumb...don't believe everything you're told. wink.gif

Have a look at the timelines here and understand that they can change dramatically at any point. Ours took 120 days. Just two months before we filed...some took less than 30 days. wink.gif

If you have the opportunity to stay with your fiance in her home Country and file for DCF that may be your best option but do your homework and be sure you will meet the new criteria as set by the Adam Walsh Act in her Country.

good luck whatever you choose.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProcessing time for the I-129f?!!? or should I do the CR1
Hello,
I am a bit new to the visa situation but I am learning quickly. I submitted my I-129F mid-October. When I submitted the petition the waiting time was 6 months but now the waiting time has doubled to 6 months and an additional 220 days. This is what the USCIS office told me. I am a bit frustrated and considering trying a different route. I am currently in Nicaragua, with my Fiance and will be here for a total of four months. If I stay for six months I will have the 6 month requirement for the CR1...this is a new requirement as of 2007. So my questions are: 1. If we decide to marry in Nicaragua is it faster? 2. What is the word on the waiting time for the I-129f?

Any advice or feedback would be welcome. The USCIS office also said I could send in additional information for my application during the waiting period.
I may do this because if I wait a year and they say NO, I would be so upset.
Thanks...wish me luck!

Hello VisaJourney! I guess I am what you would call on the radio a "long time listener, first time caller." The examples and outlines on this website are very good as well as the comments and helps found on the forums. It helped me a lot in preparing my I-129F package.

I received a letter in the mail shortly afterward stating that my package was received on August 14, 2008.

On Monday, I received a letter in the mail stating that as of January 9, 2009, the petition has been approved.

My question is...now what do I do? What does she have to do? What comes next?

I've been preparing the affidavit of support (Form I-134). It's already filled out. I am just awaiting on a letter from my job stating that I work there full time, salary, etc (which I should get Thursday) and a letter from my bank (which I should get in 5 business days). After obtaining these evidences, what should I do next?

Any help is very much appreciated. :-)

Can a touch a day after getting the NOA2 mean they sent it off to the NVC? Or the NVC received it?

Yes, we got NOA2 on 01/12/09 and got a touch on 01/13/09. I think it was the day they sent it off to NVC and they scanned it before it was sent out. It happens to many of us!

How do you know you have been touched? I am assuming that since I am asking this that my case has not been touched. I have not received and email nor is there any information on line with the USCIS. Just curious... unsure.gif

Go to the USCIS and check your case status (with your number on your NOA1)

sign up to the site for email updates.

You can create a profile and log in to check for updates...I don't think they send you emails regarding touches. I had to ask VJ the same question. I had an update on the 18th of October a few days after I received my NOA1. As far as I now this is a touch. I am new to this. Good Luck!!

I spoke with USCIS last month about my petition because a week after I submitted my packet I decided to come down to Nicaragua to be with my SO. I am having a friend take back the evidence this week to mail it in when she gets to the states. I would just send in the stuff now and not wait for the RFE...but who knows. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduressome interview advice and logic... please!
Hey Sarah,

I feel like the the interview is some what of a formality. Not that you should not worry or be prepared...but it sounds like you are on your game. I would follow your instincts about the papers. You say that the second set confused you and may confuse them as well. Present what you have and take along the extra set and anything additional just in case the ###### does it the fan.

But do not forget that you love Yadar and it is pretty clear to anyone that views your profile. Go in confident and prepared and do not let some little man or woman in a suit with the official stamp cause you to panic wacko.gif .

I think that the Embassy here in Managua has a good rep so do not worry. I went once with Balvino to ask a few questions through the bullet proof glass and I did not like the way the women was looking at Balvino mad.gif . So I talked and charmed a bit and she lightened up smile.gif . So be yourself...you seem very sincere and the rest will happen.

Good Luck.....but I don't think you need it.

Wow does VJ censor? All I said was ######.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures3 things i didnt didn't do excactly right
Sounds pretty similar to what I did and I got approved. As long as the forms are clear and you included some evidence of meeting you should be fine. But like others said be prepared for an RFE just in case that way you can turn it around quick.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLawyers?
I say no lawyer. I am flying home with my love tomorrow. I did everything on my own and the one document we used a lawyer was incorrect. Luckely the Embassy here was fine with the typo. If you feel confident and you have no complications like previous marriages do it yourself.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about sending originals
QUOTE (elephantmaniac22 @ Apr 4 2009, 01:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi, I am fairly new here and have been busy getting my I-129F ready to be sent. I have a question about the stuff I will need to send to my fiance. I have all the originals of everything ready to send him, however, I am not sure about sending the cards and letters he has sent me. Will he get them back after he goes in for his interview or should I just send him copies too??? I do not want to loose all the letters he has sent me.

Thanks for any help!!

We didn't get anything back from our petition packet but they did give back our photos and a few items at the interview. I would save the originals for the interview. Send copies of things like letters just send real photos.
