You could always try. If they have a free spot, they might move you up.

Has your case been completed at NVC?

Oh dear--I'm so so sorry.

Call the embassy--speak to them. See what they want. Or if there is any other way you can keep the case there. Email them/fax them. Request a second interview with your presence.

Melody--If Amit is interviewing in Delhi, you need to be there.

I say do it, because it gives the consulate some additional time to review the documents.

Asia: SouthMailing documents directly to Consulate
Thanks for replying.

I called and asked Mumbai IV unit this question earlier. They said no as well. No email or fax either.

They said if any additional documents are required, I will be issued a slip and then I can mail those documents with the slip directly. Doesn't make sense to me, but whatever.

My joint sponsor is unwilling to give his documents to me. Unless he does, I can't give it to VFS to forward it to the Consulate. He said he will only give it if there is some official link or confirmation that such a thing is required/recommended. Because we went through NVC, he thinks the Consulate will not ask for anything else and that I'm being overly paranoid and asking for unnecessary paperwork.

I'm stressing now. GAH.

Asia: SouthMailing documents directly to Consulate
Question--Is it possible to mail documents directly to the Consulate from the U.S.A?

My joint sponsor is refusing to send me a copy of his AOS package citing privacy concerns. He is however, willing to mail it directly to the Consulate. Is this possible? My interview is on May 12 at the Mumbai consulate.

While I assume the Consulate will have the rest of his documents as we went through NVC and our case was successfully processed by them, I'm concerned about the 2009 taxes. I understand that post-April 15, consulates will most definitely be asking for them. I really don't to leave anything to chance at this late hour.

Could he email/fax it to them at least? Anybody have any advice/opinion regarding this?

Asia: SouthMarriage certificate in India
Kaushalia. Not to make you worry uneccesarily but I would suggest that you/your husband be prepared for a question or two at the embassy stage. They might pick up on it since the Indian COs are familiar with Indian family/marriage acts. I'm sure they won't but who knows? Best have an answer of sorts prepared.

Asia: SouthMarriage certificate in India
This is extremely stupid. I too am an Indian citizen with a permanent resident in India but I had to wait for 30 days BEFORE I could even file the notice of intending marriage (I was in the U.S. from January to June) under the SPECIAL MARRIAGE ACT 1954. We could not get married in the Hindu way since my husband isn't an Hindu. So not only did I have to physically be present in my permanent residence for 30 days before I could file, then I had to wait another 30 days after the notice was filed to get married. I can't believe they made me sit around for 60 days just to get married. Absolutely ridiculous.

From what I understand though is that even if you get married religiously, you STILL have to wait for 30 days to actually get the marriage certificate as proof. This is however applicable to the Special Marriage Act and not the Hindu Marriage Act.

Hope this blurb helps someone in the future.

And BOTH parties must be present to sign the marriage certificate, so even if you get married religiously, your SO will have to wait in India for a month before you are able to collect the marriage certificate.

The first thing I do when I step on to an international flight is to ask for a couple of glasses of wine in quick succession.

That knocks me out and I sleep peacefully through the entire flight.

It's your second K-1 refile.

AP is to be expected.

Don't worry about it. Just regular background/name checks.

Unfortunately, there is no timeframe. Could be 1 day, could be 1 week or 1 month or 1 year.

Asia: SouthUsing gold jewellery as assets
I have a question--I, the Indian beneficiary, received some gold jewellery from my parents and other guests as wedding gifts as is often the custom in India. Could I use them as assets? Has anyone done this before? Of course, I'll get it weighed, valued, certified etc. and express it in terms of USD. It'll be around $8,000. I mean gold is as good as liquid cash and only appreciates in value. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this?

I would just like to present the strongest financial case possible and contribute to our AOS.

P.S.: My husband is currently earning $21,620 and we have about $3000 in our bank accounts (2 person household). We should be good for the interview, right?
