K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures	Is a K-1 Fiance Visa Lawyer a waste of time?	My lawyer basically didn't even know IR-1/CR-1 existed. He kept telling me K-3 was my only option. He sat on my paperwork for 1 month minimum before sending the I-130, and then when NVC time rolled around, it took him 3 months to get through that. They ONLY reason he got through that was because I kept pushing him and telling him what needs to happen next with information I got from this website. If it wasn't for this website, my wife might still be sitting in Thailand. So I basically paid $1800 to delay my wife's visa for 3 months. Doesn't seem like that good of a deal to me. And this from a lawyer that claimed to have 10k plus marriage/fiance visa approvals under his belt. Basically your just another piece of paper to the lawyer. They get your money up front, so what reason do they have to make sure your paperwork gets done in a timely manner or gets done correctly? Pretty much no incentive. Hiring that lawyer was a HUGE mistake. As someone stated above, all they do is fill out the forms. The petitioner and the beneficiary have to do all the legwork collecting documents etc., not the lawyer. If there's some issue like a criminal conviction, deportation or ban, then by all means a COMPETENT lawyer is needed. If you don't have anything like that hanging over your head, and as someone stated above, can fill out a job application, I can't see any benefit in hiring a lawyer. Quite frankly it's somewhat comical to even think a lawyer is needed to fill out a few forms. I wish I had found this website before I hired them. K1 Visa If it is substanstial to meet the income support level then you can use that asset. Also aren't you receiving unemployment insurance in the mean time? Some embassies allow e-mail communication and allow you to choose a date and others choose the date for you. Give at least a week to 10 days to contact the embassy to see if they have your case as it will take a bit to get there and then a few days for them to enter it in the system. Good luck! Everything is taking forever at the moment. I am waiting on my green card and it is taking forever. I fully sympathise but as above, don't submit anything after the fact. But We cannot only see if the USC fiance can afford the whole visa process but also think that its very expensive bringing a person from another country. Thanked God I had my savings so I can help my husband with my expenses (even though when he has a great job). Not only think about the visa, is the AOS too, buying clothes, a car,...... is not meant for everyone Yes it is very expensive. And you are right, lending shouldn't be an issue. We got approved around 2 weeks after we replied to the RFE. When responding to a Request for Evidence it is extremely important that you place the blue coversheet on the top of the response you send to them. The VSC receives thousands of pieces of correspondence each day, if the blue coversheet is not on the top of the response it will be placed in “general” correspondence and NOT sorted as a priority, which may delay your case. Petitioners in fiancé(e) (K1) nonimmigrant visa cases are generally expected to provide the adequacy of their own financial resources to ensure that an alien, after admission into the United States, will not become primarily dependent on the US Government for subsistence. While our immigration law does not disallow joint sponsorships for K nonimmigrant visa applicants, the mere submission of an I-134 Affidavit of Support from joint sponsors is not sufficient to establish that the alien is not likely to become a public charge. Accordingly, we make a thorough evaluation of other factors, such as the sponsor's motives in submitting the Form I-134, the sponsor's relationship to the applicant or petitioner, the length of time the sponsor and applicant have known each other, etc. An I-134 Affidavit of Support submitted by a casual friend or distant relative who has little or no personal knowledge of the applicant has limited value. Unlike the I-864 filed by joint sponsors in immigrant visa cases, the I-134 is not legally binding and imposes no legal obligation on the joint sponsor to make good on his or her promises. Please be assured that we look at the totality of circumstances in assessing the credibility of joint sponsorships. It is allowed but they'll approve it on a case-to-case basis Good luck!
